Chapter 14: A parade and a beach: a moratorium under the stars.

Chapter 14, as a surprise to my dear readers, I have decided to return to canon on this one! (And totally not because I got lazy...) So, expect to see a victory parade AND the glorious beach episode we all like, SPECIALLY once the LYNXs pull out their own swimsuits! I will warn you; the LYNX ladies will dethrone Zero Two as the most... 'attributed' girl of all. Anyways, on with the show! (Different opening for the set!)

The next morning after the date...

All the girls: - YOU DID WHAT?! –

Naomi: - I k-k-k-kissed him... -

As Raven had said, all of squad 13 was already asleep by the time he and Naomi returned, and they soon joined them after taking a quick bath and changing into their sleeping wear. Once morning had come, both had been kidnapped by their friends and were now being "asked" (read 'interrogated') about how it went. True to her word, Naomi had omitted the 'talk' she had pried off from Raven and told everything else up to the point of their return...

At this point, all the girls had their suspicions about what a kiss meant in the RF, and so far, the only ones who seemed to get into the correct conclusion were Ikuno and Ichigo. Zero Two already knew about the subject so she was less surprised and proud of Naomi's action.

Zero Two: "Attagirl! That's how you get your darling!"

Ikuno: "How... how... how?! How should I feel about this?!"

Ichigo: "A kiss... I wonder... *remembers what she did with Hiro on their mock-up match and blushes* Oh..."

Zero Two: - And? How did it feel?! Tell us! –

Naomi: - Well... I don't know how to describe it... I did it without thinking... and I think I got my emotions get the better of me... Aggggggh! It's so hard to tell! - *Shakes her head a lot and grabs a pillow to which she screams into it...*

Sally: - There, there... take your time... *Whispers: 'Man, love during puberty is really a bad combination'* -

Zero Two: - Come on Naomi, just tell us! –

Ichigo: - There, there Zero Two, let her relax. –

Zero Two: - But this is very entertaining! –

Miku: - I still don't see what the big deal was in the end... isn't kissing something that usually happens? –

Sally: - *Sighs* Miku, remember that in here, 'kissing' is different to what APE defines it... -

Ikuno: - Just how many words are different here?! –

Her tone surprised everyone, to which she soon blushed in embarrassment: - Sorry... it's just... ughh... it has been very confusing ever since we arrived here! It's like... -

Naomi: - Stepping in another world... well, yeah, that's how different the RF is Ikuno. You're not alone on that feeling, I was the same for the first weeks after my rescue. But at least Raven was there to help... -

Ikuno's mood went down when she heard Naomi say his name again... but took soon took control: "Just remember, if it makes her happy then I'm happy... if it makes her happy... then I'm... happy..."

Kokoro: - But what exactly is kissing in here sensei? Can you explain us with more detail? –

Sally: - I'm afraid it's hard to explain... but it involves two people connecting their lips together and... well... letting their emotions take control for a few moments... -

She was blushing as she said this which confused a little more the girls...

Pari: - Wait, so mouths are for more than just eating, talking, and breathing? –

Sally: "Technically yes... but you're too young to know..."

Ikuno decided to change the subject before she would fail at keeping her emotions in check as the talk made her jealously increase: - So what is today's plan sensei? –

Sally and Zero Two had noticed her little change as the former answered: - Well, for today you can pretty much do everything you want to do short of leaving the mansion. Even so, I can guarantee that it will be a busy evening as the parade will begin at noon. –

Pari: - Oh right! I wanted to ask about it! Does the name have a different meaning here, or is it the equivalent to what we know? –

Sally: - It is the equivalent if you mean that it involves an organized march filled with people and dignitaries. –

Pari: - Yep, that sounds about right. –

Miku: - Finally, at least one word that hasn't changed its meaning. –

As the girls laughed at that joke and Sally told them about the parade's schedule, the boys were at the kitchen, with most of them waiting at the table while Raven and Orion were the only ones helping in the kitchen...

Zorome: - Raven, you told us that the senator's cooks would be serving us the whole time we were here! And yet, here we are waiting for breakfast! –

Raven: - Shut your trap, Zorome! You will have the right to complain only IF you help us here! And considering you don't even know how to cook, then SHUT UP! –

Mitsuru: - You're right on shutting him up, but he is also right about the cooking staff. Where are they? –

Armstrong: - That's on me kids. I forgot that most of the staff had taken the day off to go and attend the parade with their families. –

Everyone was surprised to see him!

Titus: - Senator! Eh... ah... ummm... -

They all tried to stand up and salute him only for Armstrong to stop them...

Armstrong: - There, there, no need for formalities. I know that you are still new with everything related to our customs. So, what is it for breakfast today you wannabe chefs? –

Raven: - Something edible as long as you don't start biting the hand that feeds you senator! –

Orion: - WOULD YOU TWO SHUT UP!? I'm cooking in here! –

Hiro: - I think it would be for the best if we just let them cook in peace... -

Raven and Orion: - THANK YOU! –

They continued cooking breakfast without any more disturbance and soon enough, it was ready...

Raven: - There! Finished! –

He came out with a cart carrying a tray which had an absolute breakfast buffet...

Raven: - Now you can eat you ungrateful Parasites! –

Mitsuru: - I feel like that was meant as an insult. –

As Armstrong served himself some eggs and bacon, he soon said: - So, how did your date go young Raven? Any funny business with your partner? –

Raven: - Oh for f**k's sake... how many times do I have to say that I am not my mentor in there? –

Armstrong: - You follow a lot of his steps kid, and the similarity of your relationship between Naomi and you, is way too similar to that of Zorran and Yukino. –

Raven simply grumbled before Titus said: - I'm also curious Raven, you haven't told us how it went yet. You simply woke up and went to the kitchen before everybody else. –

Raven was about to answer when he was interrupted by the girls as they arrived...

Sally: - We're here! Oooh, it smells deli... SENATOR!? You woke up late again?! –

Armstrong: - Uhmm... what? It's 8:30 so I have... -

Sally: - YOU FORGOT WE REINSTATED THE SUMMER HOUR CHANGE! IT'S 9:30! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE WITH THE REST OF THE DIGNATARIES IN 30 MINUTES!!! –

Armstrong: - ... SH**!!! –

He ate all of his breakfast in literally one bite, then went back to his room to prepare his suit and wash his teeth and face, all the while making loud noises while Orion calmly grabbed his suitcase, keys and holo-phone while everyone else watched incredulously. Soon enough, after a few minutes, the senator came back down taking everything from his son in one snatch while also saying very fast: - I'MLATE,I'MLATE.THANKSFORTHEBREAKFAST.REMEMBERTOWATCHONCHANNEL4THROUGH8THEPARADE.THERE'SDRINKSANDSNACKSONTHE2NDCUPBOARD.TAKECARECHILDRENBYE!! –

He then closed the door shut and everyone managed to hear a vehicle turning on and speeding away from the mansion...

Sally: - I swear to God, I'm surrounded by a family of idiots... -

Orion: - Oi! –

Sally: - Except you sweetie... you're lucky your mind takes after your mother. –

Orion: - *Sighs* Yeah, I got lucky enough... sometimes I swear it is me the one who takes care of him instead. –

Raven: "Ever since Linda passed away..." – So, you still want to know how it went on the date or not? –

Sally: - No need, Naomi already told us! –

Goro: - Already? Come on Raven! We want to know too! –

Raven: - Alright, alright! Eat first then I will talk! –

Hunger soon made itself known through everyone and so started to eat without hesitation while Raven told them his point of view of the date. Like before, he had "skipped" the talk he and Naomi had about the truth and soon enough, everyone was satisfied with both the talk and the food.

Zorome: - So, what can we do so that we don't die of boredom in here? –

Orion: - Well, I'll give you two choices: either help with the chores of the house or help washing the dishes. –

Sally: - Orion, they're supposed to be our guests... -

Orion: - Right... sorry is a force of habit in me. –

Kokoro: - Don't you have staff to help with that? I know they're away today but what about the rest of the days? –

Orion: - Yeah, we have. But I never let that get into my head, these people also have lives and families to take care apart from me and my father. We pay them of course, but if I must choose between making their agendas busier or making mine busier, I will prefer busying myself first if I can, and only asking them for help if it's really needed. It also allows me to improve some very necessary skills that everyone should learn once at least in their lives. –

Futoshi: - But aren't you already busy protecting and fighting your people? They should help you just like ours do! –

Orion: - Oh they do, but that doesn't mean that just because we're in one of the most dangerous jobs we can't also help in our own way. As you know, Sally is a nurse, she COULD not be because she is already a LYNX according to your thinking, but she DECIDED to become one because... -

Sally: - I believe that just fighting to save lives isn't complete if I can't save them from other menaces apart from the klaxosaurs. –

Raven: - Again, not everything revolves around just fighting klaxosaurs guys. –

Everyone reflected a little on what he said before Zero Two loudly spoke: - But we're on leave right now and we can have some fun right now! Come on! What qualifies as entertainment in the RF, sensei? –

Orion: - Well girl, we have thousands of ways to entertain ourselves! In fact, how about I show you one of the archetypes of the century! After I'm done with the dishes of course... –

Naomi: - You wouldn't mind if we help? –

Orion: - Only if you want to. –

While a few of them waited at the lobby looking at the holo-TV, others went to help their hosts with the dishes and received a few quick lessons on how to do it. Fortunately, no incidents came from it and soon enough, the chore was done.

Orion: - Thanks for helping kids. –

Ichigo: - No problem sensei. It was kind of productive, we never had the chance to do something like that before. –

Sally: - Yeah, you showed that when you dangerously stacked the plates in one single column. You were lucky Zero Two reacted that quickly to help you with the weight. –

Zero Two: - You're welcome! –

Kokoro: - So you do this daily, miss Sally? –

Sally: - Yeah, when we can afford the time for it. There are sometimes were we have to leave it to others. –

As those who helped went back into the lobby, Titus soon asked: - So, what is exactly this archetype of entertainment that you're going to show us sensei? –

Orion didn't answer as he simply grabbed the remote and started switching the setup of the TV... (Futoshi: - Hey! We were watching that! – Pari: - Is his TV Futoshi, we will see that show of cooking later... -)

Orion: - Raven, what was the score again? –

Raven: - 7 even... Ah! Finally going for the tiebreaker, huh? –

Orion: - Of course... *Menacingly* And I won't lose to you... 'raven'. -

Raven: - *Menacingly* Bring it on... 'knight'. –

The screen soon changed, and music started playing as the title soon appeared...

(Funny thing: I NEVER played even once any of the franchise games...)

"Initiative: Smash Bros"

Raven and Orion: "Good thing that Nintendo's copyright is also expired. They said their anti-piracy policy was iron clad even against fangames."

Goro: - What is this? –

Orion: - It's called a videogame. It basically emulates through a series of long, arduous codes a simulated scenario of whatever genre it was set to do. In this case, ours is a fighting game, so it isn't that hard to understand. –

Hiro: - And considering how you two are acting... does that mean you play this a lot? –

Sally: - HA! These two are the top contenders of this district. I have seen a lot of people try to challenge their seats and fail. –

Everyone got hyped when she mentioned this, and saw as the two brawlers were selecting the arena and the characters...

Orion: - Huh, they added new ones? –

Sally: - Yep, part of a recently launched DLC a week earlier. –

Raven: - Dibs on Steve! –

Orion: - Dammit! Guess I'll settle with Sora... -

Sally: - Ooooh, now we got a balanced fight here... -

And balanced it was, as the kids were floored at how good both LYNXs were in the game. When you thought one had the upper hand, their opponent would pull out a 'uno reverse card' move and even the odds again. It was very amazing to see as the matches dragged on and both gamers were tied up, the match they were playing being the tiebreaker.

Goro: - Come on Raven! You got him trapped! Use the explosive wagon or whatever! –

Zorome: - Get him Raven! He is almost done for! –

Zero Two: - Go get him big Bro! –

Orion: - Waitaminute, wat? –

The distraction was more than enough to give Raven enough room to get a smash ball and K.O. Orion out!

TV: - Game! Steve... wins! –

Orion: - NOOOOO! –

Raven: - YEEEEESS! HAHA! Today's dinner is on you Orion! –

Orion: - Goddammit! I shouldn't have distracted myself! –

Miku: - That was fun! Can we have a go please? –

Zorome: - Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease! –

Raven: - Sounds fair, but first you need to... -

Beep! Beep! Beep!

He was interrupted when an alarm came from Orion's holo-watch and as he looked, his eyes went wide: - Ah crap! It is already time!? Sorry kids but your gaming session will have to wait, the parade is about to start! –

He put the videogame in pause and soon switched to the cable mode, swiftly scrolling through the channels until reaching one that showed the main avenue of the parade. The camera showed that it was super wide, enough to allow 2 franxxs to walk through side by side, alongside wide walkways that were filled to the brim with civilians cheering and smiling in anticipation...

T.V. reporter: "...And with the final details out of the way ladies and gentlemen, let the victory parade begin!"

The group cheered as they saw the festival begin as men and women in elegant uniforms started marching in unison with the music. At the front was the shield-knight NEXT of general Snow, carrying with pride three flags: the ones on his left hand had the RF logo and the SMC logo. The one on his right hand carried an emblem of a shield like that of the NEXT which had '1rst' inscribed at the top while the rest of the shield was red and at the bottom the name 'regiment' was set in red too. That was when they realized that the emblem represented that of the group and considering they couldn't see the general, they all theorized he was inside piloting. Behind him where the LYNXs of the first line, all wearing red and white ceremonial uniforms that looked like a mix of theirs and those in the academy.

Behind the first platoon came that of the gunner's platoon, led by Coronel Dubois, as her command NEXT was painted yellow and had the number 13 on its left shoulder plate. (Come on Ace Combat fans, you know this reference!) She also carried the same number of flags on her hands, except her regiment's logo was that of a target dummy with a crosshair at the head with three holes and three casings at the bottom which said "333rd gunner regiment" in golden letters. All the pilots were wearing yellow and white uniforms.

After them came the cavalry representatives, the two leaders, majors Akosua and Chima, were both riding a white klaxosaur each. Akosua's ride was one that looked similar to a white dragon while Chima's looked like a sabertooth tiger, painted in white and red. 

(Based on 'Benares' and 'Beast of Yang' from Honkai Impact 3rd.) Their NEXTs also reflected their styles as Akosua's was based on that of a Teutonic knight, while Chima's was more based in an eastern design.

Their division emblem was that of a frontal face, the left side being that of a normal AC while the right side was that of a klaxosaur. The letters at the bottom of the arms coat said, 'Enemies of our enemies; allies of our home'. The LYNX marching behind the two were all wearing a mix of their uniform with decorative armor in different colors, which confused a little the children...

Ikuno: - Why are they wearing different... uniforms than the rest? –

Orion: - Let's just say that taming and sometimes raising klaxosaurs is still new, risky, and expensive. As a matter of fact, that happened because of me... -

Everyone: - And Wolfblade? –

Still remembering the wolf klaxosaur made many of them have goosebumps just by thinking about him. To think their sensei hatched him from an egg and raised him as a pet! Although, to be fair many of them were wondering how the RF reacted to it. Guess they just found out the answer...

Orion: - Yeah... anyways, because of it, usually those who managed to bond and tame with klaxosaurs are considered to be 'gifted' in certain way, making them a different kind of elite in the army. As such, to identify them, many of them decorate their uniforms with some extras. They constitute a small portion of our forces, but their weight can be felt across armies. There are some of them in those forces that are ACES. –

Ichigo: - And what exactly is the difference between ACES and the rest, sensei? You're one of them if I remember... -

Orion: - Hmmm, how to explain it... there two ways to become an ACE: the first one requires the applicants to have more than 10 years of experience, have a distinguishable service record from your superiors and a LOTS of recommendations. It's the longest but it is also the safest... -

Ichigo: - And the second one? –

Orion: - Is the riskiest one... you become an ACE after killing ONE type of klaxosaur... a Super Lehmann... -

Everyone gasped at this information, to fight a Super Lehmann was suicide, let alone killing one! And considering that their sensei was an ACE and didn't look that old...

Hiro: - Sensei... when did you and Sally became ACES? –

Raven, Sally, and Orion looked at each other with solemn looks as the last one sighed and answered: - On the same day everything changed... the battle of 'El Álamo'. –

Naomi was the only one who understood entirely the implication: "All 3 of them were there... they saw everything... being taken away..."

Considering the dark mood of their friend and mentors, the kids decided that they would drop the issue for now...

Ichigo: - Sorry if we brought up bad memories... -

Orion: - It's alright... another consequence of being a LYNX... you'll understand the longer you pilot... -

Their mood soon improved as they continued watching the rest of the parade, as the cavalry divisions soon moved along and let the artillery regiment take the spotlight. Their uniforms were green and black, and their emblem was that of a dark crosshair with an orange atomic blast cloud on its center and the black text '24th regiment' surrounding the crosshair. The command NEXT was black and green, and the TV showed the name of its pilot: Lt. Colonel Marco Robles.

The regiment soon moved on and were followed by many similar ones that it eventually made everyone space out a little with the names and numbers. Still, the celebration was in full swing as the people in the walkways cheered and thanked the soldiers as they moved slowly but surely towards the administrative building. It wouldn't be until hours later that all the participants finally reached the bottom of the structure where a podium had been set up and hosting it were the most important people of the city. That's when the kids saw that the auxiliaries that participated in the defense were seated right in front of the podium...

Zorome: - Wait, shouldn't we be there too? We also participated! –

Raven: - That's for the auxiliaries that gained their spoils as today they will become LYNXs. You're still active Parasites guys, remember? –

Zorome groaned but still showed his enthusiasm alongside everyone else as they were now seeing a graduation for their fellow ex-Parasites, now ready to be reborn as LYNXs and continue the good fight! As the music lowered down and everyone got into position, senator Armstrong soon appeared as he took the podium.

Armstrong: - Soldiers, citizens, and people of Avalon! Today it is a glorious day, for after giving a heartfelt goodbye to the fallen, today we celebrate the living they protected on their call of duty! On this day we have 3 reasons to celebrate, the first one being a celebration to honor and rewards those who did an exemplary job at the defense of the city if Avalon! The second reason is to witness the completion of the transition of all the young boys and girls in front of me from becoming auxiliaries into fully fledged citizens of the RF and consequently LYNXs of our nation! And the final one, is to inaugurate the first laying of the first batch of fertile soil that will be the foundation of a lively city amongst the deadly desert! An oasis of life! –

Cheers were heard as the first part of the ceremony started, the commanders of the units' receiving commendations and medals first before they soon did the same to the rest of the LYNXs under them. All the while, Armstrong gave the next speech: "LYNXs of the SMC, today, your efforts to respond to the call of duty and to break the limits of your performance are rewarded for it was thanks to you that today we stand here together in such a historical event after 15 years after the last one. The future generations will look at the example you have set today, inspiring them to continue the job we have started long time ago. Leave today with your heads high, for you have secured a legacy that will live long after you!"

After a long while, the first ceremony was done and soon resumed towards the second part, in which the auxiliaries stood up as Armstrong started another speech: "Auxiliaries! Those of you who had been selected today are making a big step. It is a step that is similar to that one you had done before when you graduated from the Gardens of APE and became Parasites. Alas, this is different... back then you were fighting for survival, to avoid sharing the fate of many before you: death for both you and your plantations. Unfortunately, fate saw that you failed on your duties and many of you were also at the risk of being taken away by death itself after the fact... but you're now here, alive and given a second chance to continue it, no matter the setback that you suffered before. Some of the other auxiliaries have chosen a different path but you here, you have chosen to go back directly into the fight, and for that we all salute you. That determination and will to continue the fight at the front is an attitude that isn't that of a Parasite but that of a LYNX. And from this point forward, you will be recognized as such!" Then, couple by couple as their names were called out, the new LYNX went up to the podium, where they received a new official uniform and documents before stepping down and going into the back, all while everyone else clapped at them.

Mitsuru: - Just out of curiosity, how long had those auxiliaries been with you? –

Sally: - At least 3 years. They're 18 years old now... one of the requirements to become a LYNX. –

Zero Two: "So that means the RF has the luxury of time to expand the training period of the ex-Parasites... meaning they give them a chance to live a different life to the one they had before..."

The second ceremony was also long and by the time it was finished, the Board announced that they will all have a break before resuming with the final ceremony: the G.E.C.K. activation ceremony. Most people used the break to refresh and eat lunch, including squad 13 who got to enjoy their first experience with fast food.

Futoshi: - This is delicious! Are you sure it takes time to make this plate, Raven? –

Raven: - There is a reason why it is called 'fast food' Futoshi. Normally it takes time to make one, so this kind of food is more of a 'shortcut' when you don't have it to prepare it. But trust me, food made in the traditional way is WAY more tasty than fast food! –

Futoshi: - Pari, please tell me you have wrote the recipe of this one on your cookbook! –

Pari: - Already ahead of you Futoshi! What food did you say it was called Raven? –

Raven: - Pepperoni pizza. A classic you must taste! –

Pari: - Got it! Maybe we will be able to cook it after a few weeks of practice! –

Futoshi: - Awesome! You're the best Pari! –

Pari blushed and smiled proudly at that compliment.

Raven and Naomi: "Yes! Keep it like that Futoshi! Notice her more!"

Everybody else simply looked at both LYNXs weirdly as their faces showed their intentions...

Squad 13: "Are those two up to something?"

Their appetite soon made them forget about it and continued eating until they were satisfied. By then the ceremony resumed; it was the afternoon, and the sun was ready to set as senator Armstrong took the podium one more time...

Armstrong: - And now ladies and gentlemen, the big moment we all have been waiting and fighting for! Today, May 21 of 2116, the Avalon district, the 5th of the Restoration Front, is officially founded and starts its job to return life into the desert region that was once known as Eastern Asia! -

He then proceeded to type into his holo-tablet while in one of the screens it was shown a set of machinery that looked too high-tech and high maintenance, and considering that it was situated in an isolated white chamber that looked very scientific, the children soon concluded that what they were looking at was the G.E.C.K., the important machine that will turn the area around them green again. As the senator continued typing, various parts of the machine started to activate until all of it was on, and that was when the senator pulled out a key that he then inserted in the podium structure in the platform. He was then followed by general Snow and director Farcus as both pulled out similar keys from their jackets and inserted them too into the machine. Then the three simultaneously turned them and that was when the podium revealed the classical big red button. The senator didn't hesitate to press it, and once he did, the machine came to life! But that wasn't the end. The TV's soon broadcasted the external parts of the armored walls started to separate from the main frame of the ark. Slowly but surely it kept on expanding, as everyone felt the tremors caused by the transition of the ark into a stationary colony, until at last, the tremors stopped as the transformation was complete. Once everything was over, senator Armstrong spoke for one last time: - Today, one journey ends and another one, the hardest one, begins! PRAY FOR ANSWER! –

The whole city: - PRAY FOR ANSWER! –

And as everyone stood silent, through all of the city a new song started to be heard...

To all of them, it marks exactly the point where they will make a leap towards an unknown future ahead of them...

Questions went right through everyone's' minds, what would this exactly mean once they returned to APE?

Which way do I go?

How fast is too slow?

The journey has its time, then ends.

Would this be the last time they would see this great city? The last time they will see a replica of what old humanity was?

If a man can fly over an ocean

And no mountains can get in his way

Will he fly on forever

Searching for something to believe

There were secrets being kept from them in here, they were sure of it. But at the same time, it didn't seem to be out of malice nor out of distrust...

From above I can see from the heavens

Down below I see the storm raging on

And somewhere in the answer

There is a hope to carry on

It was more like for the sake to protect themselves from someone else... but whom? And why did that question filled them with dread for the answer?

When I finally return

Things that I learn

Carry me back to home

Yet they could see why... 'home', this is what everyone living here considered the city. A place where they would belong now and forever...

The thoughts that I feed

Planting a seed

With time will begin to grow

And even though the visit here left them with more questions to which they didn't had the answers...

The more that I try

The answer in itself will be there

They hoped that one day they would find them and once that happened, maybe they will find the same thing... a home for themselves.

Once the song ended, fireworks started to blast into the sunset sky and the people started to celebrate. It was there and then that the senator and the members of the city council started to leave alongside everyone else in an orderly manner to enjoy the celebrations. That was when Orion turned off the TV...

Orion: - Well kids, did you enjoy the visit to our city? How was the whole experience for you? –

Ichigo: - It was really... incredible sensei. I, I literally have no words to describe it... -

Orion smiled as he said: - Glad to know, no need to explain it. I can tell by your expressions how much this impacted you... -

He was right, their visit to the city had left a big impact on them that was the size of the craters in the moon.

Zorome: - This city is incredible! We haven't seen all of it but I can tell that it would be beyond amazing! Is this how our cities would look like too?! –

Miku: - Who knows but I hope it does! Papa was the one who designed them in the first place to shelter all of humanity! –

Futoshi: - I really hope that one day we will get a chance to see ours! Who knows what sort of food and wonders our city could have! –

And as the rest of the squad talked enthusiastically about their expectations on the Cerasus, only a few of them got their mood down...

Raven, Orion, Sally and Zero Two: "Dammit guys/kids."

Naomi: *Sweatdrops* "I guess it's going to be hard work to help them see the truth unclouded... I just hope they will be strong to get over it when it happens..."

Ichigo: "I don't know Zorome... if our city was at least similar to theirs... why haven't we been invited to visit it yet?"

Raven decided to not let that little detail of naiveness to get in the way of having a good time...

Raven: - Alright! So, we still got a whole night to have some fun! And I think I know what we can play! –

He went upstairs and pulled out a set of board games to which everyone had fun playing, wishing for this visit to never end...

The next morning, 5:30 am...

The time to return to the Cerasus had come and because of that, Squad 13 was again awoken early, with their luggage ready and loaded into the same limo that received them as they were being dismissed by the senator himself...

Armstrong: - I hope you had enjoyed your stay with us auxiliaries. It is a shame that you're all still active units of APE, we could really use pilots like you! –

Ichigo: - You honor us senator, but just like most of the LYNXs the serve in the SMC, our duty calls on APE and we must respond. We are forever grateful of your hospitality and for giving us one of the best experiences of our lives however... -

Armstrong: - Glad to know that. Anyways, I have nothing to say except good luck in your future endeavors. Let it be known that you all have a place here in Avalon if one day you need it. –

Ichigo: - Thank you senator. –

Orion: - Alright kids, start boarding up please... -

As they did so, the senator soon said: - Raven, Orion, I need a moment with you... -

Both soon went to him, and he spoke: - You two are aware of what this means, right? To let an active Parasite unit, witness our civilization and then return them to APE's service means danger, for everyone involved. –

Raven and Orion: - Yes, we are aware... -

Raven/Orion: "Dammit, they are that desperate to use her as the key..."

Armstrong: - As such, we need more time to prepare for our own plans and that's when this plan was created. Son, these kids are vital for the success and end of this war... and they're also good kids, actually human amongst many drones. I have known the doctor for quite some time, and I don't think he is simply doing this out of his scientific intuition. –

Orion: - Don't worry se... father. Our squad has grown to appreciate them that we will make sure that when we finish, they will be the best APE unit out there. –

Raven: - It would be better if they become an EX-APE unit. –

Armstrong: - Well, if you two follow the secret plan I just gave you, there's a chance that will happen. Now go on, this is enough stalling for today... and Raven, take good care of that girl Naomi, it has been a while since everyone who knows you has seen you like this... -

Raven: - Don't worry senator... unlike last time, I will not let anything take her away from me. –

Armstrong: - I know you will then... -

Both pilots soon entered the vehicle and drove away towards the ports. As they did, the children took one final look at the city, still sleeping before the first sunrays woke them up and the lights were turned off before settling down, a little sad to leave the place.

Kokoro: - Do you think we will one day return to this place? –

Mitsuru: - It's very probable that we won't... but I don't regret visiting here. –

Titus: - I'm very envious of you Raven, you can return here anytime you want alongside the senseis while we will be stuck at the Cerasus. –

Raven: - Maybe... but to be fair, it would become boring without you guys. Also, I wouldn't miss by anything in the world a free trip to the beach! –

Futoshi: - Oh right! We haven't spoken about that one! What do you think the ocean would look like guys? –

And as everyone talked about their upcoming trip to the coast, Zero Two got closer to Raven as she asked: - Hey... big bro? –

Raven: - Huh, you're actually using that term on me then? I thought you meant it as a joke... -

Zero Two: - Ha ha, very funny brother... seriously, can I talk to you like that? As you said, you're the one with the most experience about being human here... -

Raven: - You're all human but if you mean about 'old humanity' morals and attitudes then I guess you're right... -

Zero Two: "Thanks for trying... but I'm still a monster Raven..." – Anyways, is it possible that one day... we will be accepted here? –

Raven looked at her then at everyone else as he then gave Zero Two a determined look: - If all goes well, and we continue to strengthen our bonds and our skills against the unknown... then we all will return one day. –

Zero Two nodded smiling, understanding what Raven meant: they would be able to return one day free of APE, all of them one day.

Zero Two: - I would usually say that is a far-fetched dream... but today I learned that your group seems to make them possible somehow. I will fully trust you in this case, alright? –

Raven: - Thank you Zero Two, and I promise to you that I will do my best to help you and Hiro be at their happiest, no matter what happens... -

Zero Two: - Are you sure about it? –

She hesitated before gathering enough trust to grab it and shake it, a new promise sealed right there...

Both retracted surprised as the LYNX smugged...

Zero Two: "Alright! At first, I was impressed but now I'm getting annoyed! How did she do that?!"

Raven: - Naomi! You were there the whole time?! –

Hiro: - And me too... -

Naomi: - We're literally at your side, remember? –

Both sweatdropped at this as it was very obvious...

Raven/Zero Two: "Dammit, we're becoming a little too soft..."

Naomi: - Relax you two, we find it cute that the 'Lost Raven' and the 'Stamen killer' are interacting like kindred souls. –

Raven: - Well, what can I say? I don't mind having a little sister... -

Both smiled at each other alongside Hiro and Naomi as their vehicle reached the port, and as they disembarked, Zero Two soon asked: - So, do you really like the beach? –

Raven: - One of my favorite spots for vacation! The city is great, but sometimes you just need a break from the place and see something different! Nothing beats that like the beach! –

Some days later...

Raven: - Specially when going together with my friends! –

He said this as he was wearing a pair of white and blue swimming trunks as Atlas squad and squad 13 arrived at the spot. Morale was high as the salty winds of the ocean was smelled by everyone...

Boys: - It's the ocean! –

The male adults: - Beach episode, here we go! –

The women: - Hmph, men... -

Zero Two: - Let's go Darling! –

Hiro: - Woah! Wait Zero Two! –

The pistil ace was dragging her companion into the water, eager to swim into the salty water with him...

Sally: - Be careful with the ocean current kids! –

The adults and the other kids soon set up their equipment which was a beach umbrella, towels, carpets, two coolers and a grill.

Orion: - Just a little more... there! –

Joshua: - Ufff... finally, let's get some beers from the coolers. –

Ying: - You and your drinking habit. Can't you be a day without it? –

Joshua: - I did yesterday! Also, don't you think this is one of the best places to have nice cold beer? –

The heat was having its way with everyone there so Ying didn't have an argument against it: - Fine, but I will be monitoring you again then... -

Joshua: - Fine by me... now let's crack a six-pack open! –

Raven: - Joshua and his love for beer sometimes worry me... -

Naomi: - Is it that bad? –

He had looked to see his partner and was floored to see her wearing a white and gray two piece that gorgeously highlighted her figure. She wasn't the most attributed of all the women Raven had met but it seemed to be more than enough to make him have some naughty thoughts...

Both parents were wearing conservative swimsuits, Olivia wearing an orange one-piece alongside a blue skirt and Boris an orange shirt and white swim trunks (Beach BBQ skin from SMC). Meanwhile, Aurora was using a little cute one piece below a waterproof vest and a cute sunhat to protect her from the sun and having fun burying his father under the sand with help from her mother.

Naomi: - Why are you burying your father under the sand Aurora? –

Aurora: - So that he becomes a turtle! It is fun! –

That was when Boris started snoring asleep while Olivia and Aurora started shaping the sand above him into a carapace, making Naomi chuckle at how cute they looked before her attention was called by Miku: - Hey, Naomi! Me, Kokoro and Pari are going to play a volleyball match against our mentors! Wanna participate? –

Naomi: - Sure! I'm on my way! –

She left leaving behind a still dumbfounded Raven before he was shaken out of his stupor by Orion...

Orion: - Seems that Sally's pick did the trick then... -

Raven: - Why doesn't it surprise me? She seems to have a magical knowledge about clothes! –

Orion: - Which I appreciate a lot if you know what I mean... -

Raven: - And I didn't need to know that, thank you asshole... -

Orion simply smiled smugly before they heard a yell and saw that the children of squad 13 had managed to crash into each other while playing against Violet, Sally, Sarah, and Molly.

Sally: - Are you girls alright? –

Naomi: - We're good! Just a coordination problem... -

Miku: - Kokoro! Your string is coming undone! –

Pari: - Naomi! Your bottom! –

Raven got redder as he saw quite the 'exotic' show in front of him while Orion smirked at him. It was the rest of his friends that expressed all his emotions in one single phrase: - ALL HAIL THE GLORIOUS BEACH! –

Orion: - Well, it looks like the rest of the boys also agreed... -

Raven simply sighed before saying: - I'm going out there to take a dip... -

He really needed it to cool off and to also think a lot of certain things...

Raven: "Since when I had started seeing Naomi like this...?"

He remembered that night she kissed him, fresh as a perfect apple harvested from the top of the apple-tree, going over and over in his head, every time becoming more... suggestive...

Raven: "DAMMIT! Get your mind out of the gutter Raven! Naomi is great and all, but... I think it is still way too soon for this step... I'm not like my mentor!"

He dived below the waves and swam around looking at the local ecosystem, miraculously alive and healthy despite the extreme desertification around the globe...

Raven: "It just shows that mother nature is wiser than those dumb sages..."

As he explored the reefs and fishes, he heard a splash nearby and looked to see Naomi swimming towards him and indicating him to surface. Both did so and after taking a breath above the surface, she spoke: - Raven... I need to talk to you... -

Raven: - Ummm... alright, what is it? –

She swam closer to him which gave Raven a nice view of her figure making him blush...

Naomi: - It is about... the end of our date... I think it did something to me... -

Raven got worried now: - What is it? Do you feel sick? Was it something from the food? Or did I infect you with something? – "Dammit, did I forgot to sanitize?"

Naomi: - No it isn't that... is just... ever since we kissed, I have been feeling down lately... -

Raven: - What do you mean? –

Naomi breathed deeply before speaking: - I have been feeling confused lately... it's like I yearn for something that is deep inside me, and I can't get it out of me! I had been capable of suppressing it for now... but whenever I see you and hear you... *her body starts to fidget and tremble* it builds pressure and I don't know if I can contain it... Raven, what exactly is this? What does it mean!? –

She threw herself at him as if trying to extract an answer out of him, that she ended up way too close to him, her skin contacting his and making Raven blush a lot more as both looked at each other into their eyes. It seemed that whatever was affecting Naomi made both stare at each other longer that they normally would, unwilling to break the spell. And Raven knew what this spell was...

Raven: "It can't be... this is too soon... are we even ready for it yet? Is it even safe to tell her about what love means? Was it a mistake to kiss her? Wait, why am I thinking of that, she kissed me first! What should I do, what should I do?"

He didn't do anything as both continued to stare at each other, the soft splashes of the ocean creating a relaxing ambient around the two...

Naomi: - Raven... what are we supposed to be? –

Raven was silent trying to come up with a response that he wouldn't regret later when both were interrupted...

Zorome: - Hey! Raven! Naomi! What are you two doing? –

The presence of their friend alongside everybody else from Squad 13 made both blush and separate...

Raven: "Don't know if to curse or praise you Zorome." – We're fine! Just enjoying the sea together! What do you want? –

Zorome: - Mitsuru found something interesting! And we think you know more about it! –

Raven: - And you didn't think of asking Orion or Sally or any of the adults before me? –

Ikuno: - We were on our way to them, and we simply spotted you first. So, are you coming or not? –

Raven looked at Naomi who decided to leave the recent issue for later: - Wait for us please! –

She started swimming towards them as Raven sighed: "I guess we will have to address this later..."

He then followed her...

Moments later...

Orion: - Man-made concrete stairs... that means a human settlement is nearby, good finding Mitsuru! –

After communicating his discovery to the adults, a decision was made to allow the children to explore under the care of Orion and Sally while the rest of Atlas stayed to enjoy the beach as they weren't in the mood for some exploration.

Mitsuru: - Thank you sensei. Although I must ask, did you ever find settlements on your missions? –

Orion: - We had, but all of them had been the same result: empty and in ruins. However, we do find some ancient objects that have a lot of value back in the RF so they are always worth being explored. However, they're also dangerous so make sure to stick with us for now... -

To emphasize that, he, Sally, and Raven were carrying concealed handguns (The good ol' 10mm pistols from Fallout 4) in bandoliers and were also carrying expedition backpacks.

Raven: - Anybody that fells that this is out of their league, you can leave now, we won't hold it against you if you feel this as too dangerous. –

Zero Two: - More dangerous than facing giant blue creatures of death? Yeah, sure don't make me laugh... -

Raven: - ... I'll be honest, I kind of appreciate your sarcasm. –

Mitsuru: - Even if it is too sharp sometimes? –

Raven: - That's what helps strengthen the shield sometimes. Look at it from the other side... -

Mitsuru simply 'tch'-ed and stayed silent, although in his thoughts he could see the wisdom on Raven's words. He also had the suspicion that he was trying to mend whatever grudge he had with Zero Two. He still didn't trust her completely, but after the defense of the Ark, he had decided to tolerate her presence with everyone. Unaware to him, Kokoro looked at him a little worried...

Orion: - Well, let's get going then! We don't have all the time of the world! –

Everyone started climbing the stairs, admiring nature's elegant dominance over the stairs until they finally reached the top...

Raven: *Whistles*

Sally: - Huh, this is one of the untouched ones... -

Ichigo: - You consider this 'untouched'? –

The town was surrounded by all sorts of plants, trees, and debris alongside a lot of dust and rust covering most of the ruins...

Raven: - Trust me, we saw worse, and Zorran even managed to visit the Chernobyl ruins and he told me that that place gave him the creeps. He had nerves of steel! –

Orion: - Shhh... -

He then pulled out a lector alongside his pistol as he walked into the ruined town while everyone else waited. Soon enough, he loudly screamed: - No activity detected! It is safe to enter! –

They all did so and looked around as they realized they seemed to be on the main square of the town...

Orion: - Alright, considering the size of the town, we will only allow you to explore 2 blocks around the main square for safety reasons. I want everyone to group up in couples to keep each other safe and sound. Right now, is 3:30, so I want everyone to regroup here at 6 o'clock without exceptions so that we can return in time for dinner. Understood? –

Everyone: - Yes sir! –

Orion: - Good, me and Sally will be exploring the town hall, to see if we can recover valuable documents and confidential stuff... be careful kids! –

Everyone then separated and went to explore the town...

Raven and Naomi alongside Titus and Pari had decided to explore the northern area which looked like the residential area as they found many small buildings that looked like apartments.

Pari: - How many people do you think had been living here before everything was abandoned? –

Raven: - At a town like this, my mentor used to say that only hundreds. It looks like small numbers but there was more than just 1 town everywhere in the world. They also were the folks that enjoyed a slow life. –

Titus: - Slow life? –

Raven: - Basically, they lived without seeing much action like us. They could go at the speed they wanted. –

The answer still confused them but decided to leave it there as they entered one of the apartments...

As expected, it was full of dust everywhere but one good look at the place would show it was made with better quality than the rest of the residences...

Raven: - It seems we hit the summer house of a rich family in the past... -

Pari: - You know this by just looking at the place? –

Raven: - Nope, it says here... -

He pointed out to the rusted sign in the door that said "Musk... sum...er hou...".

Pari: - Oh. –

Raven used his holo-watch to scan the building and soon said: - The upper floors are stable. Girls, you're lighter than us so you can explore there. Me and Titus will check the lower floors. –

Everyone: - Alright! –

The girls went carefully upstairs and saw that the old dusty rooms were big and filled with objects that indicated a life of luxury...

Pari: - Wow, they really liked to have all of these? –

Naomi: - Isn't this too much? For us just some food, clothes and a nice bed was enough in exchange for piloting. –

They searched through all the upper rooms, finding some jewelry, a few intact books, and, surprisingly, a laptop and a briefcase.

Pari: - Why would you need that for? –

Naomi: - Raven told me that some things are of value back in the RF and the SMC. I'm planning to keep some of the jewelry and talk to Raven about what to do with the rest... -

She sighed as she remembered about him which Pari noticed...

Pari: - Naomi, was wrong? –

Naomi: - It's... nothing... -

Pari: - Naomi... I know that kind of look, your look of disappointment... -

Naomi sighed as she then said: - You know me well... it has to do with the kiss I gave Raven... for some reason I feel dissatisfied, and I don't know why... -

Pari: - Huh... you too? –

Naomi: - Wait... you mean you also know how it feels? How? –

Pari blushed but soon answered: - Well... it has to do with today... I asked Sally to help me find ways to make Futoshi notice me more... hence she gave me this swimsuit... -

Naomi had noticed that Pari's swimsuit was an elegant one-piece that clearly would have been banned by APE, so it meant it came from the SMC. It hugged Pari's curves elegantly and would have made many boys (and she suspected that even some girls) turn to look at her.

Pari: - But Futoshi... that dork seems to only have eyes for Kokoro... -

Naomi: - *Sighs* Don't give up just yet Pari, there's many ways to try and get him... *notices one of the jewels* as a matter of fact, here! –

She grabbed one of the jewels that looked like a hairpin that had the figure of a mochi and put it on Pari's head...

Naomi: - Here, if there's something that Futoshi loves more than anything is food, so let's see if this combination can make his eyes go for you. –

Pari: *Chuckles* - Thanks Naomi... but on the condition that you also talk to Raven about what bothers you... and that you confess your feelings to him. –

Naomi was shocked, but before she could answer, they heard Titus shout from outside: - Pari! Naomi! Come down! We found something BIG! –

Naomi simply looked at Pari before she used her holo-watch to dematerialize their findings before both went outside...

Pari: - Those watches are a great tool btw. –

Naomi: - Yeah, I noticed it too... -

As they arrived outside, they saw Titus and Raven at the entrance of what looked to be a small version of a hangar...

Raven: - You won't believe what we found here! –

Both guys looked enthusiastic about it, so the girls wondered what it was. Once they looked at the inside, they were also surprised...

Naomi: - What is this? It looks like one of the vehicles from Avalon. –

Raven: - It is a vehicle! It is a Ford Mustang 1969 model! These models are very rare and even rarer to find in this state! –

The car was old, rusty, dusty, with many windows broken, its electronics all fried, and with the whole 4 tires deflated but it still showed it had endured quite well the trials of time...

Raven: - Oh man! If I could restore this thing and retrofit it, I could make MILLIONS on my next paycheck! I may have enough to finally buy that new speaker set! –

Naomi, Pari and Titus: - That much?! –

Raven: - And MORE! –

He went there and started dematerializing the car step by step, first scanning and storing the tires, followed by the engine, then the lights, the windows until finally scanning the metal frame leaving nothing behind...

Raven: - Done! Oh boy, I can't wait to restore it! –

Titus: - What else did you find girls? –

Naomi: - Oh! Some jewelry and electronics, do you want us to show you? –

She presented Pari's headpiece to the other two...

Raven: - Wow! Nice find! –

Titus: - *Whistles* This should grab Futoshi's attention now! –

Pari blushed as she smiled: - Thanks... -

Raven: - We still got some time before returning, how about we seek more caches? –

Everyone agreed and went back into their impromptu scavenger hunt...

Some hours later...

Everyone was back at the entrance of the town after exploring it, giving it one last look before leaving for the beach.

Orion: - Well, I would say that this expedition was a total success! We found so many valuables in the town hall, what did you find? –

Raven: - I will show you once we return to the Cerasus. –

Titus: - Speaking of return... sensei, do you think that one day we will be able to return to live on the surface? Just like before? –

Orion seemed to reflect hard on the answer: - Well, to be sincere with you, yes and no. There is a lot of klaxosaurs still roaming around that is hard to keep them away from the districts, meaning that returning to these villages won't happen for a long time... as for the lifestyle that was built upon those towns... maybe, just maybe... –

Raven: - To summarize: 'no' to the surface but 'yes' to the lifestyle for now... -

Titus seemed satisfied with the answer and soon everyone went back down to the beach, where Boris was managing the grill and getting help from Joshua and Chuck as they passed him more meat and condiments while everyone else was waiting. That's when everyone found that Nana had returned...

Nana: - There you are! Where have you been? –

Orion: - Doing some little scavenging hunt... don't worry, everybody is safe and without injuries. So Boris, what is the specialty today? –

Boris: - I decided to do that recipe of yours called 'empalmes', boss! Alongside some hot dogs and sausages! –

Orion: - Oh boy! EMPALMES! MY FAVORITE! – (Mexican cuisine everyone! You cannot be mad at it!)

Everyone saw the food being grilled and couldn't fault Orion for his excitement. Soon enough, the food was ready and as soon as the children took a bite of it, they all started eating it with joy...

Zero Two: "I never thought that I would love something that isn't sweet in my entire life!"

Mitsuru: "This is so delicious even I can't resist reacting to it!"

Zorome: "Is this what adult food tastes like?! I REALLY WANT TO BECOME ONE THEN!"

Futoshi: - THIS IS OUT OF THIS WORLD! –

Everybody else in the squad simply made noises of agreement with what his statement as they didn't want to stop eating...

Boris: - Ha ha! Glad to hear that young tolstyy! –

Futoshi: - I bet you told me fat, right? –

The adults laughed as the children chuckled and continued to eat with Pari already making plans for her conquest of Futoshi...

Pari: "I need to ask for the recipe... and some cooking ware... you will soon see Futoshi!"

She was surprised when Futoshi talked to her: - Hey Pari, think we can try and replicate this dish? –

Pari: - Eh? Ah! Errr... -

Boris: - If you want to follow my steps as 'mactep' griller, I don't mind! But I won't be going easy on you 'rebenok'! –

Orion: - Boris, you won't even be able to teach them... remember that only me and Sally can access to the Cerasus. –

Boris: - Blyat! –

Futoshi: - Oh well... *Le idea* hey Raven, do you happen to know how? –

Raven: - I'm not as good as Boris, but yeah, I can... -

Futoshi: - Great! Then me and Pari will do our best! –

Pari was surprised but happy: an activity only she and Futoshi would do together!

Pari was astonished by the recent turn! She then looked at Kokoro who smiled at her and then to Titus who discreetly winked... that was when she smiled as she realized both of them were basically acting as her wingmen.

Pari: - Sure! I will do my hardest Futoshi! –

Her smile and her position finally hit a spot on the big boned boy as he blushed and thought: "Why does she look as cute as Kokoro?"

They were all interrupted as Ichigo soon cleared her throat and said: - May I have your attention everyone? I have some good news to tell... -

As everyone listened, she continued: - I'm proud to tell you that both Hiro and Zero Two had been officially admitted into squad 13. As of now, both of you are under mine and Raven's command! –

Raven, who was drinking a bottle of Nuka Cola (don't deny me you would want to drink one of those!), spitted at the last statement...

Raven: - Eh?! What do you mean Ichigo? –

Ichigo: - I had been talking with sensei about squad management lately searching for a way to improve, and he told me that considering we are a squad of 6, having a delegate would allow us to work better in future missions when required to split up... and you're the most experienced out of us... in Parasite terms... -

Raven: - Well when you say in that way, it makes sense... so me and Naomi would basically become your 2nd in command? –

Ichigo: - Correct Raven. And to be fair, I think you would be the best one for the role... before you returned, our squad wasn't in the best shape: Zero Two had just arrived and was... well still is a headache sometimes... *everyone laughed a little at this fact while the culprit said: - More to come! -* Hiro's situation was unknown and way worse than now, and our squad's performance was... *sighs* crappy. –

Raven: - It surprises and worries me how fast you all embraced swear words... I may need to pull out a swear jar later... -

Ichigo chuckled before she continued: - But then you arrived, different and more experienced than any of us, including Zero Two, surrounded by pilots better than us and a different way of seeing the world. You returned as a stranger that rescued Naomi... but then rekindled your friendship with all of us, including Zero Two and turned around our situation! Is thanks to you that we all literally managed to see a city for the first time! –

Zorome: - Hell yeah! That's one dream turned reality thanks to you! –

Miku: - I agree with him on this one! –

Titus: - It's thanks to you that me and Pari got another chance to fight! You saved us from death and renewed our purpose! –

Hiro: - You also helped me renew mine... I was lost and confused on what to do before... but now I'm finally doing what I wanted to do thanks to your help... ah and Zero Two's also. –

Zero Two: - Thank you darling... and I also want to thank you Raven... in my many years being a special unit, I had never received an experience so huge like the one we just went through... it was totally new to me and... I'm glad to have experienced it alongside everybody. –

Everyone was touched by her speech and soon Naomi said: - Raven, just like our days in the Garden, you are the one that bridges the group together. Well, not exactly true, that was Hiro BUT you always would find a way to make a bunch of misfits join in harmony even if they were as different as water and oil. I think you would be the perfect candidate for this position! –

Orion: - See? I told you from the beginning Raven! You are not leader material, but you are 2nd in command material! –

Raven: - Oh shut it Orion... but if you all really have that much faith on me... then I'll gladly accept this promotion... ma'am. –

He then saluted Ichigo who chuckled before saying: - But not here, dummy. We're in leave so there's no need to be like this. –

Raven: - I know, but I always wanted to do that... -

They all laughed as they chilled around the campfire...

Nana: - Well, it's a pleasure to know you're now formally with squad 13 as their 2nd in command, LYNX Raven and Naomi. Even if you're still active SMC units, that means that you must follow either code 015's or commander Hachi's orders when issued, understood? –

Naomi: - Yes Nana. –

Raven: - *Sighs* I will try but I'm very used to being a 'lone wolf' unit so expect some subordination... -

Zero Two: - They already have me for that! Are you trying to steal my thunder, brother? –

Everyone: - Brother? –

Raven: - Something she and I decided to try for fun... don't worry. –

As he opened a new bottle of soda and drank it, he soon realized that both Sarah and Lance looked busy...

Raven: - Hey, what are you two doing? –

Lance: - The stage is set tonight... -

Sarah: - And the song of a bird will be heard. –

The man pulled out a violin from a case he had brought while Sarah pulled out a book decorated with music symbols. Raven's eyes lighted up at seeing this...

Raven: - Oh great! You're going to sing? –

Naomi: - Sing? –

Sally: - Similar to what you heard at the Federation although you will soon see it much better... Sarah is one of the best singers out there... -

Olivia: - Shh... they're about to start... -

Lance spent a few minutes tuning his violin as Sarah waited patiently and when he had it tuned, he started the melody...

Soon enough, Sarah's voice started to sing in synchrony with the melody, making a wonderful duet of sounds as the fire seemed to also burn of the resulting melody. The kids were entrapped to the mix, bobbing their heads to the tune and were unaware of Orion, Ying, Chuck, and Johnny pulling out their own instruments. They realized soon enough as Sarah went into the 2nd verse of the song and Johnny played with a tambourine, followed by Chuck with a violoncello (Nana: "When did he pulled it out and assembled it that fast?"), Orion a clarinet and Ying waited with a flute. As Sarah went into the second chorus, she soon started playing it, replacing Orion as he went silent while she covered the main part before both went back into playing together. At this point, the kids had even joined too, singing alongside the chorus, filling what was a desolated beach with life for a night. But as it happens, all good things came to an end along the song. When it did, everyone clapped...

Kokoro: - That was so beautiful! Think you could teach us... oh right. –

Sarah: - Sorry kid. But if there's a chance, I will gladly let you have some lessons with us. Just be warned that I will be very strict if that's the case. –

Kokoro: - I'll... be ready for it then... -

Mitsuru: - No need to be like that miss Hanji. You can't simply... what was that phrase again... 'throw someone to the deep part of the lake'... -

Sarah looked at him and said: - I know that... but make no mistake, I'm presenting her to the shallow part. –

Both felt uneasy at that statement but soon enough Lance intervened: - Sarah, it is different the flight of the swan to that of the dove. Be easy on them. –

Sarah sighed before bowing: - Sorry if I scared you, but singing like me really takes determination and energy. I'm simply making you aware of the hardships that come. *She then turns to Orion* Captain, if its alright I want to be excused... singing has drained me from my last energies. –

Orion yawned before responding: - You make a good point; it has been an exhausting day in the end. Let's all pack everything up and prepare ourselves to go to sleep. –

Zero Two: - Sensei, would you mind if I go for another swim? I'm still energetic, unlike you. –

Orion: - Fine but be careful and don't be noisy. Some of us really need to sleep. –

Zero Two nodded and soon went to swim while Orion went to extinguish the fire as everybody else prepare the pillows and the beds before sleep caught up to them...

...Except that a couple of hours later, one of them woke up as the night's embrace wasn't enough to put him to sleep and went to take a walk on the beach...

Raven: - Dammit... -

The 'Lost Raven' was up, trying to find a way to solve a dilemma he hadn't seen coming...

Raven: - What should I tell her? Arrrrgh, I'm at a loss... how do I tell her that even if I wanted her to become my girlfriend, we couldn't be because she doesn't know anything about the concept... –

Naomi: - Then teach me Raven... -

Raven: - AAAAAAAAAH! Naomi! I...I...I... –

Naomi: - I heard all of it Raven... so I guess is time we talk for real then? –

Raven was paralyzed before he regained his composure and sighed: - Fine... Naomi, I really want you and me to become more than friends; those feelings you told me that you had earlier? They're symptoms of an emotion that is the most chaotic of all; the archnemesis of what APE strives to obtain and has tried for years to suppress it, even eliminate it... something that is inherently natural in humans no matter how much we change... something that determines the way lives are started and ended... something that has even altered the way of human history... a relic of the Old World that will never be extinguished... -

Naomi: - For as long as life exists in the world... -

Raven looked at him surprised, as she was tearing up with a smile on her face: - For that feeling... -

Raven: - For that feeling... -

Both then closed the gap between each other as they pronounced the final words: - Is love... -

Naomi then hugged him tight to which Raven reciprocated...

Naomi: - I read about it in some of the books... sensei lent me... I... I'm afraid Raven... after what you told me about what happened... in the Alamo... and the burdens you carry inside you... I thought confessing would make me... -

Raven: - No Naomi... you would never become a burden to me... in fact, this gives me more of a reason to get stronger... you are the main reason I endured the trainings from my mentor, hoping to find ... you one day and fulfill that promise we had made... -

Naomi: - Raven... once we become Parasites, can I become your Pistil? –

Raven: - Sure Naomi! As long as we have each other and our friends, we will be the best out there! –

Naomi: - So you... *sniff* still had hope... while I... *sniff* gave it up... Raven, I know nothing about being a girlfriend or how love works... but I promise... that I will do my best to give you enough of it... to compensate your pains... -

Raven: - And I will do my best to... *sniff* to avoid those pains to happen to you... -

And then the promise of their new relationship was sealed with a kiss under the moonlight with the calm noise of the ocean...

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand DONE! THE 'SS NAOVEN' IS OFFICIALLY A SPACE SHUTTLE! WE HAVE LIFTOFF EVERYONE!

Now for some notes: the next chapter will have big delays because of my finals and graduation ceremony. Not to add that soon after that, I will go with my family for a special trip to Europe for a week, meaning no bringing my laptop so no writing during that period. So expect the next chapter in 2 months at most!

Also, I had committed a big change on me: I was bored and made the decision of installing Gundam Evolution on Steam... and now I get it... I get it why the mechas on that anime are considered superior. And my favorite is the Zaku II [Ranged]: the popular meatshield of the series! Which is why, I WILL add the Gundam mechas to this story BUT with big changes (or nerfs if you're a tryhard Gundam fan): the mechas will be underpowered compared to their canon counterparts and I will ONLY add those that are added into the game, and their appearances will only happen at the later parts of S1 and S2. So don't expect a Gundam mech anywhere soon for now...
