as soon as haeri fully slid the door open, every head in the room snapped in her direction. shivers ran down her spine at the sight of thirty pairs of eyes on her but the sound of someone clearing their throat made her snap out of it and turn her attention to the teacher. "good morning, mr. yoon..." haeri spoke through a forced smile.
"yes, good morning to you too, haeri." he began but his voice lowered at the sight of the student standing slightly behind the girl. "...and mr. choi." the man sighed in annoyance causing beomgyu to tense up and unconsciously stand tall.
"sorry for being late, mr. yoon. it-"
haeri slapped a hand over the boys mouth before quickly flashing an apologetic smile at their teacher. "it's my fault, sir." beomgyu's eyes widened at her words. "i needed to talk to him about our tutoring session and lost track of time." she slightly bowed before muttering out a quick apology.
as she stood straight once again, she was shocked to find the older man standing right in front of her. mr. yoon slapped his hand on her shoulder, "oh, is that so, haeri?" he laughed heartedly. "then it's no problem at all! just try not to let it happen again, okay?" he chuckled before making his way back to the podium at the front of the room. "now please take your seats."
haeri nodded and quickly shuffled to her seat by the window. beomgyu worriedly watched the girl before quickly shutting the door behind him, bowing to the teacher, and following her. he took his seat behind haeri and watched as she hastily took out her books and pencil.
a few minutes passed by and beomgyu had just been repeating the same cycle of looking out the window and then at haeri. his eyes just kept on finding their way back to the back of the girl in front of him. this uneasy feeling in his stomach just wouldn't seem to go away no matter how hard he tried to ignore it. he released a quick sigh before stealthily whipping out his phone and opening the girls contact.
he hesitantly moved his fingers across the digital keyboard and after a few minutes of constantly deleting and rewording his message, beomgyu had finally managed to find a message that he was satisfied with. the boy prayed that haeri's phone was on silent as his index finger hovered above the send button. "here goes nothing..." he mumbled. as he hit the button, he closed his eyes tightly.
a sigh of relief escaped his mouth once a few seconds had gone by and nobodys phone had made a sound. however, a familiar quiet chuckle did manage to make its way to beomgyus ears. he slowly fluttered his eyes open and a content smile formed on his face as he looked at the girl sat in front of him.
resting his head on his arms, while never losing the faint smile, he watched as she cautiously began to type a message on her phone. her head would constantly snap up at any slight noise in the room, clearly worried that she would get caught. but, it just so happens that lady luck was on her side because she managed to safely finish and send the message.
beomgyu felt his phone buzz in his back pocket causing him to slightly jump. luckily, no one seemed to notice so he was able to take out his phone with no problem. as he read the girls response, he couldn't help but let his smile grow.

gyu. beomgyu hid his head in his hands as he repeated the nickname in his head. to say the least, he was internally fanboying. eventually, he ended up settling on taking a nap in hopes that his brain will finally decide to take a break for a bit.

"okay, class is dismissed." the teacher announced after the bell had rung. "remember to read page 304 in your textbooks for homework and be prepared to go over it tomorrow." the second he finished and walked out of the room, all the students began to pack up their belongings and rush to the lunchroom.
unlike everyone else though, haeri wasn't in much of a rush to leave and it seemed like beomgyu wasn't either because when haeri took a quick glance at him, he was knocked out on his desk, snoozing away. "haeri, are you ready?" a voice called from the doorway. said girls head whipped towards the door with a grin.
"just give me a second, hyuka." her and kai often waited for each other after their classes so they usually took their time when gathering their belongings. as she proceeded with her packing, haeri heard kai walk towards her as he hummed. "where are we going today?" haeri asked, zipping her bag.
"oh, that's right!" kai clapped. "i forgot to ask you but remember my friends from the other day?" haeri nodded as she swung her bag over her shoulder. "yeah, well, i meant to ask you if you wanted to sit with them today at lunch. they really liked you so i'm sure they wouldn't mind you joining."
"yeah, sure, i don't mind. but, um..." haeri trailed off, slowing turning her head to take a peek at the sleeping boy behind her. "do you think they'd mind if i brought a friend along?"
with no hesitation whatsoever, kai shook his head in response to the question causing haeri to let out a sigh of relief. "the more, the merrier!" he smiled. "who's your friend, though?"
the girl pointed behind her. "he's right there taking his nap of the day, i suppose." she let out a snort but raised an eyebrow once she noticed the confused look on kai's face.
"what are you talking about? he's not sleeping?" haeri tilted her head, now just as confused as her friend, before turning around. she jumped, surprised to see the long-haired boy sitting up in his chair staring at the two of them through squinted eyes. his hair was a mess and practically covering his whole face. kai and haeri couldn't help but laugh at the sight in front of them.
beomgyu rubbed his eyes. "what's so funny?" he groggily asked.
"it's nothing..." haeri breathlessly spoke.
"but, you might want to take a quick look at your hair..."
beomgyu gave the two a questionable look as he pulled his phone out of pocket. he gasped in shock once he opened his front camera and saw his appearance. "oh my god..." he muttered out, running his fingers through his hair in a panic.
"anyways, beomgyu, would you want to join us at lunch?"
"uh, sure, why not." the boy was patting down the hair at the top of his head, trying his best to keep it from standing up. "what do you mean by 'us,' though?" he skeptically asked.
"oh yeah, i forgot, my bad. beomgyu, this is my friend, huening kai!"
"correction. best friend. but yeah, heyyy hi, i'm huening kai but you can just call me kai or whatever nickname you might decide to come up with!" he smiled, extending his hand towards the sitting boy.
before beomgyu even noticed, a small smile made its way onto his face as he shook the blonds hand. "nice to meet you, kai. i'm beomgyu."
"it's nice to meet you too! anyways, it'll just be us three and a few of my other friends." kai informed the shorter male. "it won't be a big group, i swear. just in case you're like haeri here, i wanted to let you know."
"what do you mean?" beomgyu asked, slowly standing up from his chair and grabbing his bag.
"he just means just in case you're not a big people person. that's all." haeri answered. "anyways, shall we go now?" the two boys nodded and the three of them made their way into the hallway.
surprisingly, the hallway wasn't as crowded as haeri was expecting. most of them were probably already in the cafeteria with their friends. or maybe even the library or the courtyard. who knows, to be honest. all haeri knew was that she was glad it wasn't too packed.
"yeonjun-hyung just texted me saying that they're all already there and managed to get a table for just us." kai said looking up from his phone towards haeri. "wait, where's beomgyu-hyung?"
"what are you talking about? he's right next to-" haeri looked to kai's left and surprisingly enough, the long-haired boy was in fact not there. "-you..."
the pair of best friends stopped in their tracks and slowly turned around. they both frowned once they found the missing boy. he was a few steps behind the two of them, staring at the ground watching each step he took.
"hey, hey, hey! no trailing behind!" kai scolded. beomgyu froze and looked up, surprised to see the two others staring right at him with looks of disapproval. "c'mon!" his eyes widened as kai swung his arm around the smaller boys shoulder, dragging him towards haeri.
"now..." swinging his right arm over haeri's shoulder, "to the lunchroom!" kai exclaimed. and so, the trio was officially on their way! as they walked side by side through the halls, huening kai told the two of them a few stories about his day. their laughs and giggles replaced the silence that once filled the halls.
