Felix and I concluded the paperwork, the weight of the tasks gradually lifting from my desk. As I made my way toward the office door, Felix's suspicious tone caught my attention.

"Enjoy your lunch," he stated, his words tinged with a hint of uncertainty.
I couldn't help but wonder what thoughts were swirling in his mind. With a quick nod, I swiftly departed from the office, eager to escape the confines of the Ministry.

Navigating through the bustling halls, I weaved through the crowd, my pace quickening. I couldn't get out of the building fast enough. The familiar face of Poppy greeted me by the fountain near the entrance of the Ministry. Her presence offered a welcomed respite from the workday monotony.
"So, where shall we go?" I asked Poppy curiously, ready to immerse myself in a moment of much-needed relaxation.
A radiant smile illuminated Poppy's face as she gestured for me to follow. Together, we strolled through the vibrant streets of London, embracing the city's lively atmosphere. Our path led us to a charming local shop.

"This place has quickly become one of my favorites!" Poppy exclaimed joyfully.
We settled into intricately designed white metal chairs, the air filled with the aroma of freshly prepared delights. I ordered a classic BLT sandwich, while Poppy chose a refreshing cucumber sandwich. As we savored our delectable meals, our conversation drifted through various topics, catching up on each other's lives. Curiosity glimmered in Poppy's eyes as she leaned in, her voice filled with genuine interest.

"So, what's it like working with Felix?" Poppy inquired, her curiosity veiled in intrigue.

With a morsel of food still lingering in my mouth, I carefully contemplated my response.
"It's... interesting," I began, aware of the intricate dynamics that defined our interactions.
"Felix's admiration for me has crossed certain boundaries, creating tension in my relationship with Sebastian."

Poppy's eyes remained fixed on me, her concern evident in her gaze. Sensing her genuine interest, I continued to share the complexities of the situation, "He's quite flirtatious, always testing the boundaries I've established. It's as if he believes he stands above it all, even above Sebastian."

A furrow appeared on Poppy's brow, her worry surfacing, "Merlin! If his behavior makes you uncomfortable, couldn't you report him?" she suggested, seeking a solution to alleviate my distress.
I nodded, acknowledging the option I had considered. "Yes, I've already threatened to do so. However, Felix seems confident that I won't follow through with it."
"Why not?" Poppy pressed further, her concern deepening.

A flicker of irritation passed through me as I explained, "He claims that I 'love it'- that I revel in the attention he gives me." Poppy's smile grew mischievous, a hint of suspicion present in her expression.
"Do you?" she questioned, her voice laced with curiosity. I met her gaze, momentarily perplexed by the complexity of her inquiry.

"Do I what?" I responded, seeking clarification.

A laugh escaped from Poppy's lips as she teased me, "Do you love it?"

The question hung in the air, demanding self-reflection. I wrestled with conflicting emotions-the undeniable attraction I felt for Felix, combined against the loyalty and commitment I held for Sebastian.

"It's complicated," I confessed, my voice tinged with a mix of uncertainty and self-reflection. "There is an undeniable allure to Felix's magnetic charm, but I can't ignore the fact that indulging in it would betray Sebastian."

Poppy's gaze softened, her understanding evident, "Love and desire can be tangled webs," she imparted, her voice gentle and wise, "It's crucial to navigate them with honesty and compassion for yourself and those involved."
Her words resonated deeply within me, reminding me of the need to confront my own emotions and make choices that aligned with my values and integrity.
"Poppy Sweeting, since when have you become so wise with relationship advice?" I joked in a friendly way.
She shrugged her shoulders with a playful smile.

Poppy and I strolled back to the ministry, the lingering remnants of our lunchtime escape still buoying my spirits. As I approached the office, a mix of anticipation and guilt welled up within me. I couldn't deny the flutter of excitement in my stomach, even as I recognized the weight of such feelings.

Opening the door to my office, I found Felix diligently organizing stacks of files at a nearby desk. As he heard the door, his face lit up with a warm smile.
"Welcome back. Did you have a nice lunch?" he inquired, his voice brimming with genuine interest.
I nodded, unable to suppress a soft smile, "I did, it was lovely," I replied, appreciating the small respite from the mounting tensions.
Felix took a moment to brief me on his progress.
"I took the liberty of organizing some of the piles. Since I'm not familiar with the magic you used, I did it all by hand," he said playfully, his eyes dancing with mischief. Grateful for his efforts, I sincerely expressed my gratitude.
"Thank you, Felix. I truly appreciate it. But did you not have anything to eat?" I asked, genuine concern etching my voice.

Felix shrugged nonchalantly, his playful demeanor intact. "No worries, Athena. I'll grab something for myself after work. It's not a big deal," he assured me, his carefree nature shining through. As the day unfolded, my mind remained divided between my professional responsibilities and the subtle intrigue that accompanied Felix's presence. The delicate balance between my loyalty to Sebastian and the undeniable allure of Felix's charm tugged at my thoughts, leaving me to wonder what lay ahead.

As the workday drew to a close, I rose from my chair behind the desk, ready to head home. Felix, ever attentive, stood by my side, holding out my satchel. With a nod of gratitude, I took it from his hands. We walked side by side, the rhythm of our steps in sync, as the city buzzed around us. Passing by a quaint convenience stand adorned with an array of tempting snacks and treats, Felix's attention was momentarily diverted. He paused, his curiosity piqued by the array of options before him.
"Would you like something?" he asked, his tone polite and considerate.

I hesitated for a moment, appreciating the gesture but declining his offer.
"No, thank you," I replied, my voice carrying a hint of reservation. Felix persisted, his desire to please evident in his words.
"Are you sure, sweetheart? I'd be more than happy to get something for you." His genuine concern tugged at my heart, but I stood firm.
"I'm okay, really. I appreciate your offer," I assured him, hoping he would understand.

Felix grabbed a warm meat pasty from the stand, a treat for himself, as we resumed our walk homeward. Despite the mild diversion, my anticipation grew, my mind yearning to return to the comforting presence of Sebastian. The journey home felt interminable, my eagerness to be reunited with him heightening with each passing step.

As the familiar sight of our building came into view, a surge of anticipation coursed through me. Determined to reach the sanctuary of my home, I quickened my pace, my footsteps echoing in the stairwell. Felix trailed closely behind, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "You seem awfully eager to escape my charming company," he quipped, his tone laced with playful mischief.

I turned towards him, a coy smile dancing on my lips. "Not at all," I retorted, savoring the playful banter, "I'm just exhausted and ready to be home."
His laughter mingled with mine as he acknowledged my response, his eyes shimmering with a hint of mystery.

As we reached the hallway outside our respective apartments, a subtle smile played upon Felix's lips.
"I'll see you tomorrow," he murmured, a touch of secrecy lingering in his voice. I reciprocated his nod with a respectful gesture, my curiosity lingering even as I turned to unlock my own door. Stepping inside the familiar embrace of our studio, my heart fluttered with anticipation, eager to reunite with Sebastian. However, an unexpected silence greeted me, with no trace of his presence. My eyes landed on the table, where a neatly placed letter caught my attention. Setting down my satchel on the hook, I made my way towards it, my curiosity piqued.

Athena,

I went to get us dinner for tonight. Will be back soon.

-Sebastian

I smiled, reassured by his thoughtful gesture, and gently returned the letter to its place. A sudden urge to bask in the serenity of the evening seized me, drawing me towards the window. Opening it wide, I leaned out, relishing the gentle caress of the fresh breeze that tousled my hair.

Lost in the tranquil moment, a subtle unease crept over me, as if unseen eyes were upon me. Startled, I opened my eyes, scanning the surroundings in search of Sebastian's return. And there, to my right, stood Felix, leaning out of his own window, mirroring my actions. His lips held a rolled cigarette, puffing out smoke that blended with the wind.

"Those are bad for you, you know," I playfully quipped, breaking the silence between us.
Felix's response carried an air of fearlessness, his voice resolute, "Plenty of things are bad for me. I'm not worried about it."
His words lingered in the air, tinged with an enigmatic allure that stirred both curiosity and caution within me.
In the midst of our fleeting connection, Felix and I found ourselves locked in a gaze, an unspoken longing simmering between us. The scent of something delectable wafted through the air, capturing my attention. It was then that Sebastian emerged, carrying tonight's dinner in his hands, effectively breaking the spell.

"Guess it's goodnight for real this time," Felix teased, casually snuffing out his cigarette.
With a deliberate motion, he turned away, shutting his window behind him, severing the ephemeral connection we shared. I remained there for a fleeting moment, savoring the gentle caress of the breeze against my skin before finally stepping away from the window.

As I turned to face the entrance, Sebastian walked through the door, his warm presence filling the room. The anticipation dissolved into a tender embrace, and the aroma of our shared meal enveloped us. In that moment, the longing that had momentarily tugged at my heart was replaced by the comforting familiarity of being home, with Sebastian by my side.

Sebastian and I savored our meal together, his question about my day pierced through the thoughts that had been consuming me. I tried to push aside the unsettling words Felix had spoken earlier, the audacity of his remarks still lingering in my mind. I knew deep down that Sebastian was right about Felix's intentions, but my stubbornness prevented me from admitting it.

Keeping our conversation light, I replied, "My day was fine, darling. I actually went out to lunch with Poppy today." I attempted to distract myself from thoughts of Felix, hoping to maintain a sense of normalcy in our conversation.
Sebastian looked surprised and asked, "Poppy works at the Ministry too?"
I nodded with a smile, saying, "Yes, she does! She's in the Magical Creatures Department, as you can imagine."
We shared a moment of laughter, momentarily forgetting the weight that lingered between Felix and me.

After we finished our meals and tidied up the dining table, we sought comfort in the warmth of our bed, the moonlight casting a gentle glow through the window. Our bodies intertwined, finding comfort in each other's presence as we drifted off to sleep.

Tuesday morning arrived, I reluctantly forced myself out of bed. Descending the stairs, I found Felix in his usual spot, waiting in silence.
"Good morning," I greeted him, mustering pleasantness despite the whirlwind of emotions within me. Felix offered a brief smile before silently making his way to work. I hurriedly followed, eager to catch up with him. Throughout our journey to the office, Felix remained unusually quiet. His demeanor seemed off, and I couldn't help but wonder what was weighing on his mind. Arriving at our destination, Felix wasted no time in getting my morning cup of tea. When he returned to my desk, he gently placed the cup and biscuit before me.
Taking a moment before I sip my tea, I finally asked him, "Is everything okay?"

Felix sat there with a distant stare, his gaze fixed on the bustling streets of London outside the window. He remained unresponsive, lost in his own thoughts.
"Felix?" I called out, breaking his focus as our eyes met. Concern laced my voice as I asked again, "Are you alright?"
He nodded slowly, his words strained as he responded, "Yes, I just have some pressing issues. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you."
I shook my head, assuring him, "You're not bothering me, Felix. I am here for you. If you need someone to confide in, I'm willing to listen."

His frustration became evident as he retorted, "But aren't you the one who suggested maintaining a 'professional' relationship?"
There was a hint of disappointment in his tone directed towards me.
I quickly clarified, "Yes, but it doesn't mean I'm unavailable to you as a friend. As your boss, I understand the importance of creating a safe and supportive work environment."

His anger more clear, "So, you expect me to open up and share things about myself, but as my boss, you're not allowed to do the same?" he questioned, seeking a sense of reciprocity.
I sighed, realizing the imbalance in our dynamics. "You're right, Felix. I apologize if I've given you the wrong impression. I'm willing to be there for you, both as a boss and a friend. We can find a balance, if you're willing to trust me."

Felix interest had piqued as he said with a sly smile, "How about we play a game? I'm sure that would make me feel better."
I was curious as to what he meant, "What do you have in mind?" I questioned as I sipped my tea. "A game a truths." Felix said boldly, "I'll share with you some of my pressing matters, if you answer some of my questions. It will be a fun game of getting to know each other."

Felix's proposition intrigued me, his sly smile suggesting a mischievous undertone. I leaned back in my chair, contemplating his suggestion.
"A game of truths, you say?" I repeated, a hint of curiosity lacing my words. Taking another sip of my tea, I met his gaze, ready to explore this unconventional idea.

"Alright, Felix," I agreed, a playful smile forming on my lips. "I'm up for the challenge. Share with me your pressing matters, and I'll answer your questions in return."
Felix's eyes sparkled with anticipation, his enthusiasm evident as he leaned closer. "Excellent," he replied, his voice carrying a newfound energy.
"We'll take turns, each revealing a truth about ourselves or posing a question to the other. No holds barred, no topic off-limits. Are you ready?"

I nodded, a mixture of excitement and apprehension bubbling within me. "I'm ready, Felix." Felix started first, sharing what was bothering him, "Last night I had received an owl from my mother. Turns out my great-grandmother passed away. It was sudden news and just threw me out of my regular routine."
My face weakened, "I'm so sorry to hear that, Felix." I said somberly.
"Don't worry about it, she was well over one hundred so she lived a long life." He assured me.
A moment of silence filled the room before Felix said excitedly, "Your turn."
I let out a deep sigh, "What is your question?"
Felix had a smile playing at his lips as he spoke in a low manner, "Why did you lie to me about Sebastian being your fiancé?"
Felix's smile persisted, a hint of intrigue dancing on his lips.

"Well," I began, meeting his gaze with unwavering honesty, "Sebastian and I have been together for a while, and though we're committed, we haven't taken that final step. I referred to him as my fiancé to maintain a certain image, to protect our relationship from the prying eyes and potential complications that may arise."

Felix's smile widened, as if my previous response had confirmed some unspoken hypothesis of his own.
"I see," he murmured, his tone carrying a mix of surprise and intrigue. But before I could dwell on his reaction, he continued with another revelation.
"Along with the letter from my mother, it was written in my great-grandmother's will that I inherit Bradford Manor."

My eyes widened in astonishment, not expecting such unexpected news from Felix. Curiosity got the better of me as I asked, "Is that a bad thing?" I was genuinely interested in understanding his perspective.
Felix's expression transformed, his features revealing a sense of liberation. "I don't like my family. Why do you think I moved here?" he confessed, a hint of resentment lacing his words. "They are too uptight, always bound by rules and traditions. There was always an overwhelming sense of responsibility placed on me, being the only male in the family." He paused, realizing he had veered into personal territory. Shifting his focus, he turned the tables and directed a question at me.
"How did you come to possess the Elder Wand?" His face remained composed, awaiting my response.

I deliberated for a moment, recognizing the significance of our game of truths. With sincerity, I chose to disclose the truth about the Elder Wand. "I won it," I confessed, my voice carrying a sense of pride tinged with caution. "I defeated the wizard who wielded it, and now it responds to my command."
Observing Felix's reaction, I noticed a glimmer of admiration in his eyes.
Felix's gaze roamed over every inch of me, as if taking in every detail and finding amusement in it. He chuckled, his voice tinged with a hint of admiration.
"You must be one hell of a person to engage in a duel," he remarked, his eyes locked on mine. There was a certain intensity in his gaze, as if he was captivated by my very presence.

His attention shifted momentarily as he delved into his own story.
"My sisters are furious with me for deviating from our father's path," he confided, a mix of defiance and longing in his tone, "But I wanted more than their stuffy parlors and endless banquets. I craved adventure, to explore the world beyond the confines of America. I expect I'll have to attend my great-grandmother's funeral, but that's the extent of my involvement with them. So, I apologize in advance if I'm absent for a day or two."

I shook my head reassuringly, dismissing any concerns. "Don't worry, it won't be a problem," I assured him, a sense of understanding passing between us.
Felix continued to study me intently, his curiosity seemingly insatiable.
"Do you possess any of the other Deathly Hallows?" he inquired, his voice laced with intrigue.

Leaning back in my chair, I interlocked my fingers and met his gaze, attempting to discern the root of his fascination.
"That's something I cannot discuss," I replied firmly, my words carrying a hint of secrecy and caution. "It's already significant that you're aware of the Elder Wand."

Felix's laughter filled the room, a mix of amusement and challenge. "What is it that you're afraid of?" he prodded, his eyes never leaving mine.
I responded, my irritation seeping into my voice, "I'm not afraid of anything. But some things are meant to remain unspoken. It's a vow I've taken, a boundary I cannot cross. Revealing more would compromise not just myself, but Sebastian as well."

His expression turned somewhat sad as he muttered, "You and your secrets."
There was a touch of disappointment in his voice, as if he had hoped for a different response. I took a moment to collect my thoughts before explaining, "This task, entrusted to me by my father, carries great significance. It is tied to oaths and promises I've made, and Sebastian has been by my side throughout it all. However, it's not something I can currently disclose to you."

Felix seemed to soften, understanding the weight of my words.
"I understand," he conceded, his tone reflecting acceptance. He picked up a nearby file and immersed himself in its contents, as if to redirect his attention.
Puzzled by his sudden shift, I couldn't help but ask, "Is that all?"

Felix remained engrossed in the document, a subtle smile playing on his lips.
"For now," he replied without looking up, "Rest assured, I still have plenty of questions for you. In time, they will find their way to the surface."

As the day unfolded and eventually drew to a close, Felix and I departed from the ministry, walking side by side on our way back home. I couldn't help but notice that Felix had closed the distance between us, his presence more palpable than usual. From the corners of my eye, I caught glimpses of him stealing glances in my direction.

Once we reached our respective doors, we exchanged our customary farewells, but there was an unspoken tension lingering in the air. As I stepped inside, Sebastian greeted me with his familiar warmth, and we settled into the comforting familiarity of our shared space. However, our tranquility was soon interrupted by the arrival of an unexpected letter. It soared through the mail slot, gracefully landing on my lap, adorned with the distinct seal of the Ministry.

As I read the letter from the Minister, Sebastian peered over my shoulder, his eyes scanning the contents. His features twisted with anger, emitting an intensity that sent shivers down my spine. The room suddenly felt colder, as if his frustration had manifested in a tangible chill.
"You've got to be kidding me!" Sebastian burst out, his voice filled with disbelief and outrage.

Startled by his reaction, I asked, "What's wrong?"

Sebastian's voice boomed with fury as he exclaimed, "I have to sit here alone while Felix gets to enjoy a lavish, formal dinner with you, dressed to the nines. It's utterly ridiculous that they won't allow anyone to bring a plus one."
His words echoed in the room, carrying a mix of disappointment and frustration. I understood his perspective, feeling torn between the excitement of the event and the longing to share it with Sebastian by my side.

I reached out, gently touching his arm, and said, "I know how much it means to you, and I wish things were different. But this banquet is strictly for Ministry employees, and they have imposed a no-plus-one policy. It's disheartening, I agree."
Sebastian's gaze softened, his eyes searching mine for understanding.
"I just want to be there with you, to celebrate your achievements together," he confessed, his voice filled with a mix of longing and disappointment.
"I understand, Sebastian," I replied, my voice filled with empathy. "Your support means the world to me, and I appreciate your desire to be by my side. Although you won't physically be there, your presence and unwavering support will be with me in spirit."

Sebastian sighed, his frustration gradually subsiding as he absorbed my words. "I suppose you're right," he admitted reluctantly, "It's just difficult to accept."
I wrapped my arms around him, offering comfort and reassurance, "I know it's not ideal, but let's make the most of the time we have before and after the banquet. We'll celebrate together in our own special way, creating our own memories."
Sebastian nodded, a flicker of a smile appearing on his face.
"You're right," he said, his voice softer now, "We'll make the most of it. And who knows, perhaps there will be other opportunities for us to celebrate together."
