THE GROUND
It was their aurulent dream, their species' aspiration to return to a home that they had once annihilated. Despite it being only ninety-seven years, the world had been forged anew, the roots ran deeper still, the earth grew bountiful and the skies reigned supreme over the creations of its progeny. They laid themselves down on the rolling hills and underneath the looming trees, its viridescence descending upon them as they stretched their arms to the jaws of providence.
They came as falling stars upon the ground, transient and luminous, devastating beauty in the eternal empyrean; bolts of fire raining from the almighty heavens in retribution. A new age would be ushered, an epoch of chaos and strife that chased away the halcyon days of peace. They were the children of dying stars, the broken people who destroyed themselves and collapsed so that they could achieve the stellar evolutionary stages of their lifespans. Accelerating rays of cosmic intervention and expanding interstellar remnants of runaway nuclear fusion, exploding with cataclysmic glory into the expanse of expectations.
Clarity came in the form of the blood that stained their hands and the brittle bones that lay at their feet. Ash and dust coated every inch of their skin, the epitome of despair under a cloak of violent delights. Pain and misery danced along the edges of a precipice, the taste of desolation upon their tongues. The ground was a nightmare, the final state of ruination.

According to myth, Pandora opened a jar (pithos), in modern accounts sometimes mistranslated as "Pandora's Box", releasing all the evils of humanity and leaving only Hope inside once she had closed it again.
