As three days had elapsed, the time had come for Claude and Athanasia to bid farewell to the Eastern palace and embark on their return journey to Obelia.

Within the palace, a flurry of activity unfolded as diligent workers bustled about, meticulously organizing and packing the emperor and princess's belongings into their respective suitcases and trunks.

Stepping out of his chambers, Claude emerged in regal attire, his discerning gaze wandering through the opulent hallways of the South Palace, absorbing the grandeur that surrounded him.

However, amidst this splendid setting, a voice resonated, drawing his attention to none other than the Eastern emperor himself.

With a courteous yet guarded smile, Sovieshu greeted Claude, his voice laced with a hint of warmth amidst a sea of unease.

"Emperor Claude. I trust your time spent in the Eastern Empire has been filled with a few pleasurable moments."

Claude's inquisitive gaze shifted toward the Eastern emperor, his eyebrow arching ever so slightly in curiosity.

"I found my stay agreeable, I suppose."

In response, Claude's voice rang out in a detached and dispassionate manner, leaving no room for sentiment.

Caught off guard by the Emperor's aloofness, Sovieshu swallowed nervously, his eyes averting momentarily as he delved into his thoughts, searching for the right words to bridge the gap between them.

"Allow me to express my sincerest apologies once again. I did not intend to cause any conflicts between us," Sovieshu admitted, his voice tinged with remorse and a genuine desire for reconciliation.

The Obelian emperor's brow furrowed slightly, contemplating Sovieshu's plea for reconciliation.

After a moment's contemplation, he nodded with measured acceptance.

"Apologies...accepted."

A wave of relief washed over Sovieshu's countenance, his smile resuming its regal splendor as a glimmer of hope flickered in his eyes.

Seizing the opportune moment, he gracefully implored Claude for a private audience before his imminent departure.

"Before you leave, I would be grateful for a short conversation, if you don't mind," Sovieshu requested, his voice steeped in polite reverence.

Claude maintained a composed silence, his brows furrowing imperceptibly as he discerned the underlying motives behind Sovieshu's request.

Instinctively, he knew that this encounter held a purpose beyond mere pleasantries.

With a deliberate gesture, he offered a firm nod of assent, accepting Sovieshu's appeal for a private conversation.

In unison, the two monarchs commenced their measured stride, navigating the grand corridors of the palace.

"Please have a seat."

Claude acknowledged Sovieshu's offer by gracefully taking a seat upon the proffered chair.

"Butler, prepare some tea for-"

"No need for tea. Time is of the essence, and I must soon take my leave," Claude interjected, his voice firm and resolute.

Sovieshu's expression flickered with a mixture of disappointment and apprehension.

"Ah, right..." his words dissipated into a muted whisper as he surrendered to the reality of their constrained circumstances. A faint sheen of perspiration clung to his brow, evidence of the trepidation that gripped him.

With a deliberate clearing of his throat, Sovieshu rallied his resolve, his demeanor shifting to one of determined seriousness, tempered by an undercurrent of unease.

Sovieshu took a deep breath, steeling himself for the delicate proposition he was about to broach. He leaned forward, his gaze earnest as he locked eyes with Claude.

"I have been considering the potential benefits of fostering an alliance between our two empires. The Eastern empire possesses vast resources and valuable trade routes, while Obelia boasts formidable military strength. It is a union that could bring great prosperity and stability to our lands," he proposed, his tone measured and diplomatic.

Claude's blue jewelled eyes narrowed ever so slightly, his demeanor turning frosty as he met Sovieshu's gaze head-on.

A brief pause hung in the air with tension, before he finally responded with a chilling detachment.

"I'm going to have to decline your proposal," Claude replied, his voice devoid of warmth or compromise.

Sovieshu's expression faltered, disappointment etching lines upon his face.

He had anticipated resistance, but the frigid rejection left him momentarily at a loss for words.

Gathering himself, he sought to salvage the conversation.

"But think of the mutual benefits, the opportunities for trade expansion and shared resources," the Eastern emperor pressed, his voice tinged with desperation.

Claude's gaze hardened, a glacial resolve settling upon his features. His response was curt and unequivocal.

"Access to our trade routes and resources is not something I am inclined to offer. Our priorities lie elsewhere, and the Obelian empire's interests do not align with those of the Eastern empire," he declared, his words cutting through the air with an unyielding finality.

Sovieshu's shoulders slumped, a mixture of resignation and frustration washing over him.

He had hoped for a different outcome, a glimmer of possibility for a collaborative future.

Yet, faced with Claude's unwavering rejection, he knew he had reached an impasse.

"I understand," Sovieshu conceded, his voice tinged with disappointment. "Thank you for your time."

As Sovieshu watched Claude rise from his seat, a chill seemed to settle in the air.

The Obelian emperor's movements were deliberate and calculated, devoid of any warmth or courtesy.

He straightened his attire with meticulous precision, his gaze fixed ahead as if dismissing Sovieshu's presence.

"I trust you understand the boundaries," Claude remarked icily, his voice laced with a frosty disdain.

With that final pronouncement, Claude turned on his heel and strode away.

Sovieshu was left standing there, his hopes dashed and his diplomatic efforts rebuffed, the weight of rejection settling heavily upon his shoulders.

A heavy silence hung in the air, punctuated only by the distant echoes of the man's retreating footsteps.

Sovieshu sat there, alone in the room, grappling with a mixture of disappointment and resentment.

It was clear that any further attempts to sway his decision would be futile, and the possibility of a fruitful alliance between their empires had been irreparably shattered.

Felix, with his unwavering dedication, guided the workers with utmost precision, ensuring that every piece of luggage and briefcase was securely placed within the carriage.

The sun cast its gentle rays upon the scene, illuminating the meticulous preparations taking place in the courtyard.

Meanwhile, within the confines of the empress's chambers, a sense of anticipation tinged the air.

Laura's eyes widened in surprise as she glanced through the window, catching a glimpse of the carriage readying itself for departure. Her curiosity prompted her to voice her thoughts, her voice filled with a mix of awe and longing.

"The emperor is leaving today?" Laura inquired, her voice tinged with a hint of disbelief. She turned to Navier, seeking confirmation of this momentous occasion.

Navier, ever composed, met Laura's gaze with a calm demeanor, her own eyes fixed upon the carriage outside. She nodded slightly, acknowledging the truth of the situation.

"Yes," Navier replied in her usual measured tone, her voice carrying a subtle undercurrent of acceptance.

She too observed the scene unfolding before her, contemplating the implications of Claude's imminent departure.

Eliza, standing beside Laura, couldn't help but share in the disappointment that hung in the air. Her brows furrowed in a dramatic display of sorrow, a fleeting expression that crossed her face like a passing shadow.

'How unfortunate. I wanted to meet the emperor in person...' Eliza mused silently, her thoughts echoing in her mind.

Laura's curiosity persisted as she sought to understand the empress's stance. She couldn't help but voice her perplexity once more, her tone tinged with both curiosity and confusion.

"What about you, your majesty? Aren't you going to bid the emperor farewell?" Laura inquired, her voice laced with genuine interest.

Navier shook her head gently, dismissing the notion with a subtle gesture.

"That won't be necessary," Navier responded coolly, her voice carrying a hint of finality as her eyes briefly flickered.

"I have already done so yesterday, after all. There are still matters that require my attention and tasks that demand completion."

With those words, the empress gracefully turned on her heel, her regal form disappearing from the view of the grand window.

Laura raised an eyebrow, her confusion piqued by Navier's unexpected response.

She exchanged a puzzled glance with Eliza, who offered nothing more than a small shrug in response.
