This time, Lisa was satisfied with his changes.
Once this was done, he deleted his conversation with Rosé and placed the cell phone back where it was.
Just before he left, he bowed down and kissed Jennie on the forehead lightly, whispering, “Sweet dreams, Baby.”
...
Jackson was extremely efficient. He got the outfits in under 30 minutes.
He carried the bags holding a full set of male and female outfits and headed to the Chairman’s office.
As he walked past the female secretaries’ desks, he got strange glances that were thirsty for gossip.
He suddenly stopped in his tracks, furrowed his brows, and said seriously, “What are all of you looking at? Get on with your work and stop gossiping about things you shouldn’t be.”
One of the secretaries was a little more daring. She spoke up and asked, “Personal Assistant Wang, are the clothes for Chairman Manoban and the lady he brought here?”
The secretary seemed excited.
Jackson knew what she was thinking. He glared at her and said, “Don’t let your mind run wild.”
She pouted innocently. “Personal Assistant Wang, are you misunderstanding something? I’m not thinking about anything of that sort.”
Jackson took a deep breath and said, “Do you people think I have no idea what you guys are speculating? Just a word of advice, you’d better be less curious about anything that has got to do with Chairman Manoban. That’s how you keep your job around here.
“You know what Chairman Manoban's temper is like.”
The secretary got a little serious but still couldn’t help but ask, “Can you at least tell us what that lady’s relationship is with Chairman Manoban?
“Is she Chairman Manoban's girlfriend?”
Jackson felt like this information should be alright to share with them.
He thought for a while and then nodded. “Mm, you could say so. You’d better be polite when you see her around.”
Jackson said that Jennie was Lisa’s girlfriend because Lisa didn’t think of going public about their actual relationship.
In that case, he had to keep the marriage a secret for now.
Being his girlfriend was enough to get their respect around here.
After all, everyone in the Manoban Corporation knew that Chairman Manoban never had a woman around him.
Hence, even if Young Madam was a mistress that Chairman Manoban paid to keep him company, they had to show her respect.
“She really is Chairman Manoban's girlfriend?!” A few of them were utterly shocked.
It was as if this was impossible.
Then again, it was impossible for them.
They always saw Lisa as a workaholic who spent every waking hour on his job, besides having to eat.
Where would he find the time to be in a relationship?
Moreover, he was such a solitary man. He didn’t even care to give a woman a second look no matter how beautiful she was.
He was almost like a monk, free of all mortal desires.
Based on what they knew, Chairman Manoban had never dated anyone at all in all the 25 years of his life.
It had been so many years, and there were never even rumors of him with anyone.
Women were practically never seen around him.
Except... Miss Shen.
She was the only exception.
But everyone knew that Miss Jeonand Chairman Manoban were just friends, nothing more.
Jackson glared at them. “Of course it’s true. Would I joke about this? As all of you can tell, Chairman Manoban loves his girlfriend. So you’d better watch your attitudes around her.
“Don’t treat her like a nobody just because she’s young.” Jackson cautioned them. “She’s the most important person to Chairman Manoban now. Offending her is more serious than offending Chairman Manoban himself. Understand?”
They exchanged glances and eventually nodded. “Mm, we understand.”
One of them mumbled, “Miss Jeonwould be so upset if she finds out that Chairman Manoban has a girlfriend.”
“What did you say?” Jackson’s expression darkened as he looked at her. “What has Chairman Manoban's girlfriend got to do with Miss Shen? Miss Jeonand Chairman Manoban are just friends, whatever he does has nothing to do with her. I don’t want to hear anything like this anymore.
“Also, I’m merely telling you off now that I’m hearing it. If Miss Kim or Chairman Manoban hear it, you’d bear those consequences yourselves.”
Jackson was very serious when he said that.
The female secretaries felt a chill down their spines.
They knew the consequences.
If Chairman Manoban was unhappy with them, they’d lose their jobs.
Personal Assistant Wang, said that it was even more serious to offend Miss Kim than to offend Chairman Manoban himself. That would mean that their jobs would be at stake too if Miss Kim wasn’t happy with them.
...
After Jackson “educated” the secretaries, he headed to the Chairman’s office and knocked on the door.
“Come in.” A cold but captivating voice called out.
Jackson was around Lisa all the time, but he still felt his hair stand sometimes when he heard that voice.
Chairman Manoban's voice... was just too sexy.
Even a man like him was captured by it.
Jackson opened the door and entered.
“Chairman Manoban, these are the...” Jackson stopped mid-sentence when he saw Chairman Manoban in his black leather seat, half-naked.
Chairman Manoban was only in a bath towel!!
There were a few red marks on his sturdy chest.
From his collarbone to his chest, and from his chest to his abdomen...
Those scratches were obviously made with a female’s nails.
Chairman Manoban was rather fair, so the scratches were especially obvious.
It seemed like... it was pretty thrilling just now.
Jackson was barely able to come to terms with this fact.
Chairman Manoban... actually did such a thing in his office with Young Madam.
His world view had been ruined.
How could someone as self-disciplined as Chairman Manoban...
Jackson was stunned for a few seconds, and only snapped out of his daze when he felt the cold gaze on him.
Lisa’s gaze was so still, Jackson shuddered.
“Chairman Manoban, I’ve got the clothes.” Jackson hung his head low, wishing he could disappear right away.
“Mm.” Lisa was tapping the desk. “Put it down and you can go.”
“Yes.”
Jackson hurriedly placed the bags on the couch and was ready to leave.
He didn’t even glance at Lisa again.
At the door.
“Hold on, come back.”
He stiffened and turned around slowly. “Chairman Manoban, do you have other instructions?”
“Postpone the appointment this afternoon to another time. Then, book a Western restaurant for me.”
“Yes, Chairman Manoban.”
He didn’t even have to say this. Jackson already knew that he wouldn’t be meeting his client today.
Since Young Madam was here, Chairman Manoban was surely going to spend his time with her.
She was way more important than any client.
“One more thing.” Lisa narrowed his eyes. “Has the ownership for the Kim family villa been transferred yet? Hand me the deed.”
“Chairman Manoban, the Kim family...” Jackson’s expression changed slightly.
“What?” Lisa sounded slightly threatening. “It’s been days, and you haven’t settled this? When has your efficiency deteriorated so much.”
“No, Chairman Manoban...”
Lisa sounded casual about it, but Jackson felt threatened.
Boss was suggesting that he wasn’t efficient anymore? What was that supposed to mean?
It was too scary.
He quickly explained, “Kim Ruhai originally already agreed to transfer it to us. But this morning, when I went to him to settle the paperwork, he went back on his word. He said he’d find a way to get the money and asked for just two more days.”
“So, you agreed to it?”
Jackson’s heart rate went from a steady 70 beats per minute to 120. “He refused to sign the papers, there was nothing we could do. After all, h-he’s Young Madam’s father.
“We couldn’t really do anything to him.”
Jackson wouldn’t have had such concerns if this was just a stranger.
They could do anything they wished to whoever went against them.
But Kim Ruhai wasn’t just anybody.
Even if Young Madam’s relationship with him wasn’t good, he was still her biological father, after all.
If they dealt with Kim Ruhai the way they dealt with others, it wasn’t possible for Young Madam not to mind at all.
And if this affected Young Madam and Chairman Manoban relationship, it would be terrible.
Chairman Manoban wanted the villa as a surprise for Young Madam.
Lisa kept quiet for a while before saying, “No matter what, we have to transfer that villa to Mianmian. Since he doesn’t want to sell it, then give him some more incentives. The Kim family company is nothing more than a shell company now. There’s no money he can get out of it. If he wants funds urgently, he’d have to turn to his other daughter and the Su chap, but they might not be willing to give it to him.
“Just give him a day. When he’s utterly hopeless, he’ll just sell it to us.”
“Yes, Chairman Manoban. I know what to do.
“Oh, right. Chairman Manoban...”
Jackson suddenly thought of something, but he seemed almost pained to talk about it.
“Get straight to the point.” Lisa was slightly annoyed. “If not, forget it.”
Jackson was left speechless.
He didn’t dare to hide anything from his big boss after seeing how angry he was. He blurted it all out immediately. “Regarding the matter you’ve asked me to investigate yesterday, the results are out. The person who sent flowers to Young Madam is...”
Lisa looked at him intensely and asked coldly, “Who was it?”
Jackson met his cold eyes and felt a shiver down his spine. He then answered fearfully, “It was Young Madam’s ex-boyfriend, Kai.”
After he spoke the name, he felt as though the room turned cold.
Even though it was summer, it was really cold.
It was so cold that Jackson felt goosebumps.
“Who? Say it again.” Lisa frowned even more.
Jackson shivered again and answered, “K-Kai.”
He knew that Chairman Manoban's reaction would be like this.
If it were any other man, Chairman Manoban wouldn’t be so upset.
But the person who sent the flowers was Kai.
He was her childhood sweetheart and her fiancé. He was also the man who almost got married to her but betrayed and hurt her.
He was even dating Young Madam’s step-sister.
However, he still sent flowers to Young Madam, and it was as though he was still trying to chase after her.
How could Chairman Manoban not be angry?
He was also triggered by it when he discovered it during his investigation.
Kai was such a trashy guy.
How could he still have the audacity to do all these?
Lisa bit on his lip and kept quiet.
Jackson could feel his anger rising even though he didn’t say anything.
Chairman Manoban would usually keep to himself more as he got angrier.
The fact that he stayed silent for so long now showed how angry he was.
Kai... was going to be in trouble.
Chairman Manoban didn’t like him in the first place. Chairman Manoban didn’t want to bother with him because Kai didn’t cause any more trouble.
But now, he dared to contact Young Madam. This was just asking for trouble.
Wasn’t it great to live without any trouble?
Why must he invite trouble to himself?
“Alright. I understand. You can leave first,” Lisa said calmly after the moment of silence.
Jackson was stunned.
He didn’t expect Chairman Manoban's reaction.
He wanted him to leave just like that?
Shouldn’t Chairman Manoban ask him more about the operations of the Su Mandate and cause them to go bankrupt some days later?
After all, Kai dared to contact his wife.
He couldn’t just let it slide.
Also, it wouldn’t be hard to bankrupt the Su Mandate.
“Have you not heard me?” Lisa looked at him coldly. “Get out.”
The coldness in his voice sent shivers down Jackson’s spine. He didn’t dare to hesitate anymore and went out immediately.
The way he left felt as though he was being chased.
After he left the room, Jackson closed the door after him.
As the door closed, Lisa threw his pen onto the table.
The pen was crafted diligently and was of good quality. Yet, it was broken in half by Lisa as he gripped it tightly in anger.
“Kai.”
Lisa spoke his name with a low voice as his eyes turned cold.
...
At the hospital.
Krystal was unconscious for a long time.
When she woke up, she saw Lin Huizhen crying next to her.
Kim Ruhai was with her too.
“Stop crying.”
Father Kim said impatiently, “Aren’t our family matters annoying enough already? Stop making it worse with your crying.”
Lin Huizhen looked up with swollen eyes. She then answered sadly, “Kim Ruhai, do you really treat Krystal as your daughter? How could I not cry under such circumstances? Krystal is still unconscious, aren’t you the least bit worried about her?”
Father Kim frowned. There wasn’t much sadness on his face, and he even answered impatiently, “The doctor has said that she will wake up today. There’s nothing wrong with her. What’s there to worry about? I’ve got bigger fish to fry.”
“Kim Ruhai, how could you say that? Is Krystal your real daughter? I bet you only treat Jennie as your real daughter. Krystal and I are nothing to you at all.
“Krystal is your biological daughter. Jennie is just an orphan that you adopted. How could you care more about an orphan than your own daughter? Are you out of your mind?”
“Shut up.” Kim Ruhai was on the verge of anger. “How many times have I told you? Don’t mention that matter again. Also, I don’t care if she was an orphan or not. Mianmian is my daughter.
“Scold her again, and you can bet that I will turn violent.”
Lin Huizhen was angered by how protective he was towards Jennie and snapped. “Kim Ruhai, you’re truly a loyal worker. You only worked at the company for three years and became so loyal to them.
“Three years of working relationship, and you’re willing to take care of their kid. Is your employer aware of your loyalty? Also, don’t drag Krystal and me into your affairs if you want to repay them. Why must we always give in to her?
“You’ve treated her so well and loved her more than your own biological daughter. But look at how she repaid your kindness. She caused a ruckus at home with a bunch of guys. Has she treated you like her father? If she did, would she have done that?
“You lost money in your business the moment she left with that man. You even had to give up your vacation home as collateral for it. Maybe she was the one behind it. How could she partner up with an outsider against her own family?
“If it wasn’t for her, Krystal wouldn’t have argued with Kai. Then, Krystal wouldn’t have gotten a miscarriage. My poor grandchild died before he had the chance to see the world.”
She started tearing up again as she rambled.
On the hospital bed.
Krystal was still in pain when she woke up.
She overheard the conversation between Lin Huizhen and Kim Ruhai, but it wasn’t clear to her as she wasn’t fully conscious.
It was only when she heard the word “miscarriage” that it shook her awake.
Shocked, she wanted to get up and ask what happened. But she experienced a sharp pain the moment she moved.
The pain caused her to fall back onto the bed.
