--- Before Y/N's Transmigration ---

The Institute for Multidimensional Travel Theory (IMTT) was a highly secretive government facility that specialized in researching and developing technology for multidimensional travel. It was located deep in the heart of a heavily guarded compound, hidden from the rest of the world.

For years, the institute had been conducting experiments on human subjects to test their theories and refine their technology. However, the results had been less than successful.
All of their test subjects were volunteers who had completely fallen into depression. The Institute had advertised for volunteers from psychiatric wards and advertised that they would be given a chance to travel to another dimension, hoping that this would give them a reason to live.

Unfortunately, this was not the case. For years, all their subjects either died or suffered mental illness not even halfway through the process. The three-step process was simple: the starting process was to make the subject relax by sedating them. The second or halfway process was to calibrate their brain and make it compatible for multidimensional travel. The last process was the multidimensional travel itself.

The government official in charge of the project was Agent Williams, a man in his early fifties. He was a stern man with a no-nonsense attitude. The scientist in charge of the multidimensional travel project was Dr. Jane, a woman in her late thirties. She was the leading expert in the field and had been working on the project for years.

Williams sat at his desk, staring at the report on his computer screen. He rubbed his temples, feeling the weight of the project on his shoulders. They had reached their limit. If another failure happened, they would no longer be able to hide the experiment from the rest of the world. He picked up the phone and dialed Dr. Jane's extension.

"Dr. Jane, we need to talk. Can you come to my office?" he said, his voice tense.

"Of course, I'll be there in a few minutes," Dr. Jane replied.

Williams sat back in his chair and waited for her arrival. When she entered the room, he motioned for her to take a seat.

"I'm afraid we've reached a critical point in the project," Williams said, his voice low.

Dr. Jane nodded. "I know. We're running out of time."

"We've only got one test subject left. Y/N. We can't afford to lose him. We need to get this right," William said, his eyes fixed on Dr. Jane.

"I understand. We'll do everything in our power to make sure this experiment is a success," Dr. Jane replied.

The next few weeks were intense. The team worked tirelessly, calibrating the equipment, and running simulations. Eventually, the day of the experiment arrived, and Y/N was prepared for the procedure as the scientists assists him for the start of the sedation process.

Meanwhile...

Dr. Jane Smith, the lead scientist from earlier, was pacing back and forth in the control room as she waited for the sedatives to kick in on the latest and last subject, Y/N.

"Dr. Jane, how much longer until Y/N is sedated?" asked Agent Williams.

"He should be asleep any minute now." replied Dr. Jane, her voice trembling slightly.

"Good. And how is the calibration process going? Are you certain about your progress since the last failure?" Agent Williams asked.

However instead of answering, Dr. Jane remained silent with a complicated expression on her face.

Seeing this, Agent Williams let out a sigh as he continued.

"We already gave you the green light for your so called solution so you better not disappoint us... Dr. Jane." Agent Williams stated.

Dr. Jane nodded solemnly as she excused herself and went to the direction where her team is located.

It is now time to begin the second process.

The team of scientists led by Dr. Jane herself had been working for years to perfect this multidimensional travel experiment. They had tried every possible method to ensure the safety and success of the experiment, but every time they reached the second process of brain calibration, they hit a wall. No matter what they did, the test subjects' brains could not be calibrated to the optimal frequency for multidimensional travel.

As the team scrambled to find a solution, one scientist, Dr. Sarah Lee, suggested an unorthodox method. She proposed that they could overcome the calibration process by manipulating the test subject's memory. The theory was that by altering the memories, they could change the subject's brainwaves and make them compatible with the multidimensional travel frequency.

At first, the government officials were hesitant about the idea, but with no other options, they agreed to allow Dr. Lee to proceed. Y/N, the only remaining volunteer, was informed of the risks and given the option to opt-out, but he remained steadfast in his desire to participate in the experiment.

The team began to experiment with different methods of memory manipulation, including hypnosis and drugs that affected memory retention. They monitored Y/N closely, both physically and mentally, as they worked to calibrate his brainwaves.

As the calibration process began, the team noticed that Y/N's memories began to fade and shift. His recollections of past events became fuzzy and unclear, and he started to forget details of his personal life. However, the team noticed a change in his brainwaves, which indicated that the memory manipulation was working.

The calibration process lasted for several hours, and Dr. Jane and her team watched anxiously as Y/N's brain activity was monitored. When the process was completed, Y/N was still alive and seemed to be in a stable condition.

"It's working. We're ready to move on to the final process," Dr. Jane said, relief evident in her voice.

After the countless sacrifices and failure they suffered, the second process was finally successful.

Finally, it was time for the multidimensional travel. The last and most difficult part of the process.

There was a sense of excitement and nervousness in the air. Everyone knew that the experiment is now one step away in completion and they are aware. They are aware that it had the potential to change the course of human history and reality itself.

This is their goal from the start.

"No use getting worried about it now. Start the process immediately." Agent Williams commanded sternly. However, even the usually indifferent government official cannot hide the smile on his face over the fact that what they set out to do from the start is now finally becoming a reality.

With that, the team was cautiously optimistic as they proceeded to the final step of the experiment.

Y/N was strapped into the machine, his eyes closed, and his body still. The scientists worked quickly and efficiently, double-checking everything to ensure that the experiment would be a success.

"Initiating the final stage," Dr. Jane said, as she pressed a button on the control panel.

The machine whirred to life, and a bright light filled the room. The scientists watched as Y/N's body began to glow.

.

..

...

....

.....

The five minutes that have passed since then felt like an eternity for everyone present, that was until, the light finally disappeared.

Agent Williams and Dr. Jane immediately rushed over to the machine, eager to see the results of the experiment. However when they opened the machine, they were greeted with a sight that made their hearts sink.

Y/N's body was still there, devoid of life. The experiment had failed.

Dr. Jane slumped against the wall, her head in her hands. All the other scientists stared at Y/N's lifeless body, trying to process what had just happened.

"I don't understand," one of the scientists said. "We did everything right. What went wrong?"

Dr. Jane shook her head. "I don't know. We need to run some tests, see what happened."

The scientists quickly got to work, examining Y/N's body and the machine. They checked every component, looking for any sign of malfunction. But everything seemed to be in perfect working order.

As they continued to work, Agent Williams sat in silence, lost in thought. He knew that this failure would have serious consequences. The government had already invested too much time and money into this experiment to let it fail. And now, with Y/N's death, they had lost their last hope.

Hours later, the Dr. Jane emerged from the lab, her face grim.

"We've analyzed the data, and we think we know what went wrong," she said, addressing the government official.

"What was it?" Agent Williams asked.

"It appears that Y/N's body was not able to handle the stress of the experiment," Dr. Jane explained. "His brain couldn't handle the transition to the other dimension, and he suffered a heart attack."

At that moment, Agent Williams knew.

The government official knew that they could no longer hide the truth from the public. They had to come clean about the nature of the experiment and the tragic end that had befallen Y/N. It was a dark moment for science, and a reminder of the importance of ethical research practices.

In the end, the laboratory was shut down, and the scientists and government officials involved were reprimanded for their actions. Y/N's body was given a proper burial, and the memory of the failed experiment served as a warning to future generations of scientists. The pursuit of knowledge must always be tempered with respect for human life and dignity, lest we lose sight of what it truly means to be human.
