You knew The Drakewood like the back of your hand, you’d been living in it your whole life. Moving around it and finding shelter and hiding where you could. You didn't exactly agree with the way they ‘tamed’ the dragons found in the forest, and often snuck into their village to free them.

After so long of hiding from the riders it was safe to say you knew every nook and cranny of the forest, so when you spotted an unfamiliar elf laying on the forest floor clutching his arm your curiosity was piqued.

You made your way over to him, realizing one of his arms had been tangled in one of the drake rider’s bolas you were quick to untangle it and help him to a safe place, watching from the hiding spot as a few of the riders flew close to the ground, searching for the intruder. Once they’d moved past looking in the area you turned to the skywing elf.

“Are you alright?” you asked, glancing down at the arm that had been tangled up, he was holding it against his side and gritting his teeth. Ok, definitely not alright. “Hold still, I can help” you said, taking one last glance to make sure the riders were gone.

You closed your eyes, focusing for a moment, reaching down and activating your magic. You opened your eyes, reaching out and gently taking the sky elf’s arm. A yellow glow emitted from your hands absorbing into his arm. You let go after a moment, taking another breath and centering yourself, deactivating your magic and looking back to the other elf.

“It should feel a little better, I can't heal it fully, but the healing process should be sped up a little.” you said “we can find some stuff to wrap it up once they’ve lost interest in you”

“You have my gratitude..” he trailed off, giving you a questioning look.

“(Y/N)” you filled in for him with a small smile. “And you’re welcome..” you trailed off as well, waiting for him to fill in his own name.

“You can call me Ibis” he replied simply, wincing a little as he moved his arm.

“Well Ibis, what were you doing in the Drakwood?” you asked “it’s well known how dangerous it is here” it wasn't a lie, most elves knew how territorial the drake riders were, and the nasty place anyone who was found in the forest was thrown.

“I was on my way to the storm spire, to aid the dragon queen” he spoke, moving to sit down, once again wincing at the movement of his arm. “I was flying over the woods when that bolas got wrapped around my wing and I fell. I must have broken my arm when I hit the ground.”

You gave him an odd look, he didn't have wings, what was he talking about? Before you had the chance to ask he replied to your confused look. “I am a mage, I am able to turn my arms to wings” he explained.

“I see, it’s quite a walk to the storm spire from here..” you said “would you like a ride there? I know how to avoid the drake riders, we could be there in a days time”

“I would greatly appreciate the help, it’s important I get to the spire as soon as possible.” you smiled, giving him a small nod. Once you got his arm wrapped up and figured out where your sunwing wolf was you’d get him out.

And that’s exactly what you did. Once you were positive the riders were gone you went out in search of sticks and some vines, using them to brace his arm the best you could. You used your powers again, in an attempt to help it heal faster as well. Once that had been taken care of you gestured for Ibis to follow you. Whistling into the forest and waiting. After a few moments a burnt orange wolf with large wings and deer antlers emerged, prancing right up to you happily.

“You ready to go on a small journey, my friend?” you asked, petting the creature’s muzzle. When they barked softly you laughed moving to their side and climbing on, holding out your hand and pulling Ibis up behind you. “To the storm spire, Elios, watch out for the other earth blood elves, they’re after this one” you said pointing over your shoulder at Ibis.

The winged wolf woofed slightly before taking off into the air.

It took a full day of flying, with only a couple breaks for Elios to rest, but eventually you made it to the storm spire. Ibis, despite your protests, went immediately to speak with the dragon queen. You’d heard what happened to Avizandum, and your heart hurt for Zubeia, but you wanted to make sure Ibis’ arm was properly taken care of.

You sighed turning to your winged companion “let's go find you some water and a place you rest” you said climbing onto the creature back once again.

~~~~~~
Once you returned you found Ibis standing on the pinnacle, holding the proper supplies to bandage his arm. He smiled as Elios landed and you hopped off his back.
“I was hoping you hadn't left” he said holding out the stuff “I would greatly appreciate it if you aided me in wrapping my arm, I’m not sure I could do it on my own” you honestly doubted it, he was a sky mage, you were sure there was a spell he could use to do it. If you were honest though? You were glad he wanted help.
You took the stuff from him, moving to sit on the ground and gesturing for him to do the same. Once he was sitting you got to work, removing the temporary vines and sticks and replacing them with the bandages. Your hand lingered slightly as you finished, wanting to keep touching him. Why did you want to keep touching him??
You shook the thought from your head, ripping the bandage and tucking the edge in so it wouldn't come undone. “That should do it” you said “considering I used a bit of earthblood magic it should heal in a month, give or take a little” you said.
You frowned slightly as you stood up “guess I should get back to the drakewood..”
Ibis looked up at you, with what you could only describe and sorrow mixed with a slight panic “you wont stay?” he asked “I could use the company, the only other creatures who live here are dragons”
“Could you use the company, or do you want someone to baby you while your arm heals?” you asked, a small smirk on your face as you raised an eyebrow. Ibis just huffed slightly.
“Can it not be both?” he asked.
You couldn't help but laugh. By the great ones he was cute. You had to pause for a moment as the thought registered in your mind. What was going on with you? You quickly regained your composure and slightly rolled your eyes, a small smile on your face.
“I suppose it wouldn't hurt to stay and keep you from somehow hurting it further.” This place was nicer than the drakewood anyway. No hiding from angry elve, no scavenging for whatever was edible if the forest, Ibis was here..  You shook your head slightly. No, why do you keep thinking about him?? You looked back over at him, your face turning slightly red with embarrassment when you realized he was looking at you with a questioning look.
He was quick to smile though, “wonderful! It’ll be nice to have someone else to talk to when I’m not needed by the queen.”
You couldn't help but smile at the genuine excitement in his voice. This man was going to be the death of you.
The days went by quickly, soon enough two weeks had already passed. Two weeks of you two getting to know each other better, and two weeks of you realizing you definitely had a crush in the sky mage. There was no way you would be able to leave once his arm had fully healed.
“(Y/NNN)” you heard Ibis whine from where he was laying not far away. “My arm hurts”
You’d learned fairly quickly that he was dramatic as fuck, and despite that it only seemed amusing to you. You actually found his theatrics endearing in a way.
“Guess we’ll have to cut it off then-” you said, not looking up from the book you were reading.
“Isn't there anything you can do-” he asked in another whine, ignoring what you had said. You sighed with a small laugh as you closed the book.
“Ibis, I’ve told you at least three times in the past 24 hours, I can't speed up the healing any more or it might not heal right, it needs to heal naturally or it could do more harm than good.” You’d explained it so many times the past week, and you knew he understood. He just really enjoyed being dramatic and getting attention.
You looked over at him, barely containing the amused laughter at him pouting like a child. With an amused sigh you stood up, holding out you hand “let me see your arm” you said “I’ll see if I can do something”
It was a lie. You were going to do the same thing you’d been doing the past three days anytime he started acting like this. When he held his arm out to you, you took a deep breath gently holding it in your hands and activating your powers. You didn't do anything, just allowed your appearance to shift and your hands to glow before deactivating it.
“There.” you said, your hands lingering on his arm for a few heartbeats longer. “Feel better?” you asked, it had worked the previous days, something about the mind tricking itself into thinking something helped even if it didn't.
“A little..” he said, still pouting slightly.
“You want me to kiss it better?” you jokingly asked, putting on a fake pout. He looked up at you, a small smile forming on his face for a moment before he exaggerated his pout and nodded. You felt your face turn a little red before you laughed.
“Alright” you said, rolling your eyes slightly with an amused smile. You leaned down pressing a quick kiss to his arm before looking back up at him. “There, all better?” you asked in the same exaggerated pouting tone as before.
“As a matter of fact I believe it does” he said, raising his eyebrows. A smile worked its way onto his face as he laughed. “I enjoy your company,” he said softly, closing his eyes, “I enjoy it quite a bit” you rolled your eyes at that, an amused smile once again working its way onto your face, this time accompanied by a dark blush.
“Get some rest you bin chicken” you laughed, gently patting his shoulder “let your arm heal.”
~~~~~

Time continued to fly by, and soon enough the two of you were standing on the pinnacle, Ibis moving his arm around, a grin on his face. His arm had been fully healed for a week, however you’d both agreed it would be best to wait for him to try flying, to make sure his arm would be strong enough, and not any other reason.

“You ready to try this?” you asked, looking from his arm then to him.

“I believe I am!” he replied, throwing his arms out in front of him as he spoke the draconic words. You watched as feathers appeared on his arms, growing into a pair of large, dark bird wings.

Your eyes probably looked like stars with how brightly they were shining, you’d never seen mage wings before, it was incredible! Ibis smiled looking between his wings before beating them a couple times, lifting himself off the ground.

He laughed slightly out of excitement as he turned in the air, diving over the edge of the spire and happily flying around.

He landed back down in front of you, wrapping his wings around you.

“I will be forever grateful for your kindness, (Y/N)” he said, pausing and frowning slightly. “I was hoping..” he said, hesitating slightly before continuing “that you would stay here, at the storm spire with me.. I quite enjoy your company, and I don't wish to say goodbye to you..”

You could practically see your cheeks turning red as he spoke, and as you opened your mouth to respond he stopped you.

“I..  I believe I like you, a lot, (Y/N), and I don't want to be apart from you..” at that you had you hid your face in your hands, being far too flustered to do or say anything. Ibis hesitated a moment before speaking again “a-are you ok, (Y/N)? Did I say something wrong?”

At that you managed to find your voice “no no, I feel the same” you quickly spat out pulling your hands away from your face. “I feel the same”

You could swear you’d never seen someone smile so bright as he wrapped his wings tighter around you “you don't have but a clue how ecstatic that makes me!” he said. He pulled back slightly “let’s go for a fly!” he suggested happily.

You nodded with a laugh “alright, I’ll go find Elios” you turned to head back toward the main cave before Ibis stopped you.

“Nonsense, I can carry you” he said turning his back to you “It’s alright” there was no way you could say no to that. You wrapped your arms around his neck gently, and pulled yourself up onto his back. “Where shall we go?” he asked, opening his wings.

You just laughed softly. “Lets see where the wind takes us.”
