harry had been driving for ten minutes before they had arrived at the restaurant for their dinner, iris was sat in the back for the whole ten minutes just thinking about matt, as sad as it sounds the boy had taken up alot of her thoughts recently
it was earlier in the day when she wanted to text matt when she realised she couldnt anymore. well not until they make up but if iris was something it was stubborn and she would not be the first one to text him
she liked matt and she wanted to speak to him but truly she was scared, he had already called her annoying and to others that wouldnt be a big deal but to the girl whos had an ex who was very toxic and manipulative at a young age it was a big thing. the fact that this was happening via text and not in real life didnt help the matter at all
suddenly she felt like crying, at first it was because matt wouldnt text her, what if he got bored? what if that was his way of ending whatever they had going on? but then it turned into frustration tears on why the fuck she had been crying for the past 5 days over a boy on the internet, deep down she knew but she would never admit that outloud
once inside of the italian restaurant iris tried to distract her thoughts by reading the menu over and over trying to pick something she wanted to eat but she had a lump in her throat and her eyes had became glassy so she quickly cleared her throat before excusing herself to go to the bathroom. she didnt get very far though as harry can read his daughter like the back of his hand so when he saw her get up and go to the bathroom he knew something was wrong immediately.
"ri whats wrong" harry asked placing a gentle hand on her shoulder after catching up to her and she spinned round and faced him, the comfort of her dads face made the tears start, as she burried her face in his chest which was smothered in the cologne in which he wore everyday since she was a baby
"shh your okay ri" he said kissing her head as her cries became sniffles, luckily the restaurant wasnt busy at the moment and he had seemed to have stopped her in a private area before the bathrooms but he looked around to make sure nobody was taking photos wanting to make sure he keeps his daughters privacy and this moment of vulnerability out of the next headline.
"what happened" he said curiously staring at her as she lifted her head from his chest in which his black shirt was now darkened but that was the last thing he worried about right now.
"im just exhausted and annoyed" iris replied softly not wanting to fully open up right now in the middle of a restaurant.
"is it a boy" harry said knowingly, like mentioned earlier he knew his daughter like the back of his hand
"how did u know" iris sniffled and laughed quietly before looking at her doc martens that were planted on her feet
"because i love you and i can tell when something is bothering you" harry said lovingly, "do you want to go back and eat and we can talk at home or do u want to go home and we can order dominos" he said whilst laughing knowing he had put a smile on her face so that was all that mattered
"its okay we can stay i want to have a nice night with you and george" she says coming to a decision, now feeling lighter than she did before she entered the restaurant.
"okay" harry smiled and hugged her one last time bring her to his chest and rocking them side to side as they laughed
"im just going to go to the bathroom real quick i need to clean my makeup up" "im okay i promise" showing harry a genuine smile before she walked into the bathroom and he walked back to the table where george was sat on his phone with a furrowed brow clearly worried about his twin sister who he can also read like the back of his hand.
"is she okay" george asks harry immediately when he comes into view turning his phone off giving his dad his full attention, something him and his sister had been taught as manors growing up especially during their teen years
"yeah she said she was annoyed about something i figured it was a boy but she said she wanted to still have a nice dinner and we will talk when we get home" harry said trying to ease the boys worries but knowing that nothing will truly stop him worrying for his twin until he sees her with his own eyes
"shes gone to the bathroom to fix her makeup she will be back in a minute" harry smiled
"okay" george said roughly still worried about his sister.
two minutes later and iris was walking back to the table and george immediately smiled after seeing her genuine smile which meant she was okay for the minute and she wasnt putting on a fake smile
once they arrived home iris was in a much better mood, one thing about the styles family is that they can pull u out of any sad or bad mood in the matter of minutes so the second she got back to their table at dinner she was already feeling happier with the subject out of mind.
george headed upstairs to his room knowing that it was for iris and their dad to talk about, he didnt mind though because he knew iris would knock on his door at 2am and rant to him just like any other time one of them had a problem and didnt know what to do
iris was taking off her doc martens by the front door and stroking milo when harry asked "do u want to talk about tonight, its okay if you dont but remember ur therapist said to not keep anything bottled up ri"
"yeah i know, ill talk now if u want" iris said with a smile on her face shrugging
"okay go change into something comfy and we will talk in the lounge" harry said whilst smiling feeling proud that iris wanted to express her emotions
"okay" iris said before making her way into her room, glad she had cleaned it before she left which was something she had her overthinking to thank. she changed from her black skirt and top and the oversized leather jacket which she stole from george whilst they waited for the valet to bring the car round to the front of the restaurant, putting on some oversized sweatpants and a sweatshirt and going back downstairs
"so whos the boy" harry asks her as he has his arm on the top of the sofa and his head resting on his palm
"you've probably seen him in the comments and stuff but his names matt sturniolo he has triplet brothers they do youtube together which is cool aswell" iris said sitting facing harry with her knees tucked up to her chest.
"i think ive seen a few things online about it but i figured u would tell me in your own time" harry smiled, iris was grateful for this knowing most parents would immediately start asking questions
"what did u get so annoyed about" harry asked remembering why she was crying earlier on in the restaurant
"we got into a fight he called me annoying and that he couldnt just sit by his phone all day waiting for me to answer which i know is a stupid reason to be upset and annoyed but the shit that max did caught up in that and it just fucked with my head, and we havent spoke in like 5 days which is like a record for us so im pretty sure hes mad at me but idk what i did" iris says quietly like she's embarrassed, she and max ended things a year ago after she caught him cheating on her but she stayed because he promised it was a one time thing and with it being her first relationship she didnt know any different, but the second time she caught him cheating she knew she was done. but within that year of him cheating on her he became toxic and would tell her shes clingy and annoying and she needs to get her own life away from him
harry moves closer to her on the couch resting his arm on her knees which are still tucked into her chest
"ri look at me" harry says as she looks at his face "its not a stupid reason to be sad and annoyed u have every right, im sure he will text you soon ri ive seen the kid in comments and i doubt he will stay away forever" he says with certainty in his voice knowing that from what he has seen online that boy isnt going anywhere. harry leans in and brings her to his chest.
"thanks dad i love you so much" she says whispering feeling that her voice might crack any moment due to the emotion in her throat, her dad and brother had always been her best friends, it was just them three when her mother decided to up and leave when they were 2 months leaving harry to be in one of the biggest boybands in the world at 20 years old but yet somehow he had managed to pull it off and bring up two of the most amazing people he knows.
