"are you serious matt?"
matt jumps from his spot on the couch and feels his heart drop slightly. he turns around and sees chris standing behind him and he immediately rolls his eyes. of course chris was phone peeking. when is he not being nosy?
"shut up," matt grumbles as he swipes off instagram and puts his phone back in his pocket. "why were you phone peeking in the first place?"
chris jumps over the back of the couch and plops himself next to matt on the couch. "i was coming over to see why you were acting weird in the group chat but then caught you lurking on madelyn's post." chris shakes his head and turns to see nick walking to join them in the living room. "again."
matt's face burns and he shakes his head. "i was not lurking," he quickly says to defend himself. "it just came up again."
"nick listen to this," chris lets out a small giggle and matt's eyes are already rolling. "matt is all odd when madelyn is at our house, but has no shame lurking on her post."
"i was not acting odd," matt interjects as his brows furrow. he hates when his brothers get like this. one second they're telling him not to think of madelyn at all, and the next they're saying all these things about him havig feelngs for him. he is not delusional for her!

nick raises his brows and tilts his head at matt. "you sat in silence the last hour they were over. you couldn't even look at madelyn." chris nods and in agreement and matt just wants to sink into the chair and die. his brothers clearly don't know about the fight but now he's going to have to tell them. he hates his life and he hates madelyn auclair. pretty woman are all dead to him now.
"yeah," chris trails off and shakes his head. "even madi was slightly puzzled at your behavior." matt sighs and bangs his head against the back of the chair.
"i got into a fight with her over something stupid," matt says simply as he shuts his eyes, playing the moment over again in his head. he wishes he could go back and avoid the conversation with madelyn as a whole.
chris and nick's eyesbrows both raise and they share a look. "about what?" chris questions as he turns his body to give matt his full attention. he genuinely cannot get enough of the drama. it is hilarious to him.
"long story short, i said something i shouldn't have regarding her and elijah. i thought i was being a help but i guess i wasn't." matt shurgs and nick gives chris another look. "i didn't know she'd get so upset about it considering her and him were in a fight but she did."
nick facepalms and shakes his head. "matt, we've been over this." nick sits on the coffee table in front of chris and matt still shaking his head. "you can't be in the meddling of their relationship anymore."
"you've done more than enough," chris adds on with a nod of his head. matt gives him a side-eye. chris is always adding on comments and matt hates when he's right for the comments. this time, he is definitely right.
"i wasn't even trying to medel. words just... slipped out," matt replies with a shurg of his shoulders. "i didn't mean to make her upset."
"well please fix it," chris says with a stern tone in his voice. "mads and sav are actually fun and i personally don't want your nutty behavior ruinning the realest friends we might find in la."
matt knows chris is right but he has no idea how to fix it. would a regular text message suffice? should he bring her something? madelyn obviously wants nothing to do with anymore and he understands. if he wasn't in the picture, maybe her and elijah wouldn't be fighting in the first place.
"okay, i'll fix it," matt replies after a few moments of thought. he's not sure how, but he's gonna try.
madelyn stares at the texts from elijah on her phone. all she can think is not again. how may times is elijah going to have to apologize to her. why can't the two of them just be normal?
she tries to get the thought out of her hard. her and elijah are normal. no one knows the two of them like they do. they're just saying what they think they know as right. elijah is right for her. maybe one day everyone will realize that?
madelyn can't even kid herself with that anymore. elijah yelled at her. madelyn is struggling to forget about that. elijah knows. he knows the reason why she doesn't like for that to happen but he did it anyway. no matter how bad the fight, that should absolutely never happen. elijah knows that.
elijah is kind. or at least he was. madelyn knows that about him. it is one of the reasons why she fell in love with him. she just feels like he's losing that part of him more and more these days. she doesn't understand why. was it her? was it him? was it social media? she doesn't know.
madelyn sighs and shuts her phone off. she puts it in her pocket and walks out of her house. she wants to go for a drive and listen to music. she feels like it is the only thing that can cheer her up right now.
she makes the short walk to her car and hops in. Immediately, her phone connects to the car and starts playing the playlist she made for matt. "closure" by taylor swift starts playing and she smiles. matt doesn't like taylor swift but she purposely put it in there to annoy him. his reaction to it was priceless. the memory of his reaction was one of her happier ones from the last month and a half. is that sad?
it definitely is to her. she fought with matt. he was the one person she felt as though could always take her mind off things and she fought with him. he said some things she didn't like. her pride won't let her admit that she might've overreacted. she didn't want to hear what matt was saying at all. she still doesn't. she just wants matt to be the one person who doesn't talk about elijah. it frustrates her that elijah has to be intertwined with every part of her life. but of course, he is still her boyfriend after all.
madelyn is snapped out of her thoughts when her car door swings open. elijah plops himself in the seat next to her and she is already rolling her eyes. why can't she just be left to her thoughts for once? why is he everywhere all the time?
"i messed up mads."
madelyn sighs and facepalms. she's sure that she is feeling an ick generating for elijah in this moment. this is the second time that he's just shown up at her house to apologize. the first time it was cute and everything, now it just isn't. it's his go-to plan for everytime he does something wrong. it's overused.
"don't i know it?" madelyn sarcastically responds as she pauses her music. as annoyed as she is, she still wants to hear what he has to say.
elijah sighs and looks down at the seat. madelyn can't wait to hear what poetic words he is going to say next. she still isn't sure if she's going to forgive him or not yet. usually her heart decides for it. and usually, it's always in favor of elijah. "i'm so sorry. i messed up so bad."
"is that all you're going to say?" madelyn questions. "because if so, you can leave right now."
elijah furrows his brows and shakes his head. madelyn swears that she sees a look of elijah being caught up in two minds and she feels her heart drop a little. "no that's not it," elijah reaches over to grab madelyn's hand but she flinches under his trust. "i shouldn't have yelled at you."
madelyn feels herself wanting to roll her eyes until they get stuck in the back of her head. elijah is doing nothing but telling her stuff she already knows. "so why did you?"
"i was angry," elijah says softly. "it won't happen again. i slipped up and i haven't done that in a while."
madelyn looks away from elijah's and scoffs. "so because you havent done it in a while, it makes it okay?" she sighs. "when are you going to stop treating me like this elijah?"
"mads..." elijah frowns, and tries to touch madelyn's knee. she moves away again, suddenly feeling very uncomfortable in his presence. elijah could sense this so he moves his hands away completely. "you don't have to forgive me right now, but i just want you to know i'm sorry. i'm going to do everything to get you to trust me again."
madelyn doesn't say anything as she stares at elijah. she doesn't know what to say to him. she wants to forgive him. her heart does want her to just kiss him and let this be another fight they get through. but her mind won't let her do that. she's scared of elijah. she's scared of her own boyfriend.
"i love you madelyn," elijah says after a few moments of silence. madelyn looks away when elijah says this and she can see his jaw dropping through the relection of the car mirror. she can't bring herself to say it back. "you don't have to say anything right now, i guess. just... text me tomorrow."
elijah waits for a response but doesn't get one. he gives madelyn a sad smile and climbs out of her car. madelyn lets out a breath that she didn't even know she was holding in and leans her head down to the wheel of her car.
