Al-haitham's lips curved upwards in subtle amusement. Cyno noticed the expression on his face in an instant, however fleeting it might have been. He mirrored his smile with his chin tucked in his palm.
"How did it go?"
"Hm?" Al-haitham's head shot up to meet Cyno's curious eyes. "Oh. It was fun, I guess."
"I can tell. Did she realise it was you?"
"She probably has an idea..." He trailed off, "Hey, how is this going to work?"
Cyno shrugged nonchalantly. "It probably won't. But now you have had a conversation with her, so you may or may not have a rough idea about how she's feeling."
The ivory-haired male had carefully devised a plan in an attempt to fix the mess his roommate had created. After talking with Al-haitham about the entire ordeal, he managed to pry out that he, indeed, felt guilty about what he had done. Cyno advised him to text Y/N under his identity in order to fetch the frustrations from the depths of her heart.
That gave Al-haitham two benefits— he got to talk to Y/N after days of stark silence, and he got an opportunity to analyse his wrongdoings from her perspective.
He didn't want to reveal who he was, but a part of him hoped that she would recognise him, so he dropped constant hints for her to catch. He hoped she'd still want to talk. He hoped she'd annoy him until he gave up.
She didn't, of course. That was expected. Hoping never went a long way.
"I'm not going to apologise."
"Let's see how much longer you can keep your pride intact."
"It's not about pride. It's about rationality."
Cyno's brows shot up in surprise. "How so?"
"It's rational for us to stop talking. We'd be wasting our time staying friends, because clearly, our relationship was transactional. She likes to keep limited friends around, and so do I. I'd rather her find a person who would be a genuine friend to her. Who wouldn't mistake her jokes for something st—"
"For what, Al-haitham?"
Al-haitham sewed his mouth shut once he realised that he had ended up ranting about idiotic things. Such musings were pushed to the back of his brain just so he could evade them. He was unsure how they slipped out.
"You get my point."
"You're contradicting yourself. You say you shouldn't talk to her because of whatever reason you have made up as an excuse to hide your true feelings, but then again, you want to talk to her. And you just did, too. I didn't force you into anything." Cyno said, his mouth barely suppressing a smirk.
"I... don't really care. I'll do as I please, Cyno. Let's drop the topic here." Al-haitham settled himself on a chair, his shoulders relaxed. "I need to start writing again."
"One last thing before you busy yourself with that stupid pen of yours."
"What?"
Cyno threw a pillow at his face.
"Rationality and feelings never go hand in hand. You have to sacrifice something, and I hope it isn't the latter."
