Natasha felt like shit the next day.
After Bucky left, she just stood in the kitchen for a little bit. In complete silence, she thought about what she was doing.
Was she really gathering Peter's DNA? For what? To prove to Clint that he can be trusted?
That's why she's going this of course. Or is it? Natasha likes to believe that she's only doing to this prove to Clint that Peter is a good kid. But, maybe that's not why she's doing it. Maybe for some reason, she believes that Peter does have something to hide. That he's dangerous.
After a while of thinking Natasha cleaned up the rest of the kitchen and sent of Peter's cup to be tested.
It was seven in the morning and Steve and Sam barely got back from their run.
"Dude, I think you forget that I'm normal and don't have lungs of steal." Sam gasped for breath.
"But your fine." Steve pointed at Sam while chugging a gallon of water.
"If you call being dead fine, then yeah I'm fine." Sam couldn't even speak with out stopping to let himself breath.
While Sam was still on the verge of death, Steve stopped focusing on him and turned his attention to Natasha.
"Nat what's up?"
"Nothing."
Natasha could tell that he knew she was lying. He was always really good at reading her.
"Do you want to tell me the truth or do you want to keep lying to me." Natasha could hear Sam breathing heavily while Steve talked.
"It's Clint." Natasha gave up and decided to tell Steve.
"What did he do now?"
"It's what I did."
"I don't get it."
Right when Natasha was about to explain more, FRIDAY started to speak.
"Mr. Barton and Banner want everyone to meet in Mr. Banner's lab."
"Speak of the devil. What do you think they want?" Sam asked. Still tried from the run while Steve looked like he just got out of a Spa.
"I guess we will find out." Steve got up while Sam and Natasha followed.
When they got there everyone was already in the room. Natasha could see Wanda leaning on the desk that Bruce has all of his work on. She usually don't wake up early and she probably just woke up. Natasha saw everyone but Tony.
"Barton why are we here?" Sam asked.
"And why isn't Tony here?" Natasha was the next to ask a question.
"He's not here because I don't want him to know what we are doing." Clint explained.
"Well unless you some how hacked FRIDAY to disable her from alerting Tony, then he would know that we are all here." Wanda talked half asleep. "And just like Sam said. Why are we here? Some of us don't wake up at the ass crack of dawn."
"To answer Natasha's question, I told FRIDAY to alert everyone in the building. Tony isn't in the building. And as for Wanda and Sam'a question, I have something to show you all."
Clint grabbed an envelope out of Bruce's desk. Bruce this whole time has been very quite.
"I know that all of you guys are going to think I'm crazy, but we can't let Tony find out." Clint showed a envelope in his hand.
Right as Clint said that Natasha could see Tony enter the room.
"To late for that." She says.
"Clint. What are you hiding from me?" Tony crossed his arms over his chest.
Clint tried to his the envelope but Tony already saw it.
"Clint you have five seconds to explain to me what that is." Everyone could tell Tony was serious because he called Clint by his first name and not by Barton.
"Tony, I'm sorry but you got to understand where I'm coming from." Clint said now putting the envelope in front of him for everyone to see.
"That didn't answer my question." Natasha could tell Tony was getting more mad by the second.
"I got Peter's DNA and tested it." Clint explained almost as if he was ashamed.
"Are you kidding me!" If Tony wasn't mad before he sure is now. "God Clint I know you have trust issues but this is just plain out wrong."
"Tony you can't expect me, except us to hang out with this random kid we don't know and not be suspicious. You've heard him speak. Even you have to understand that he is sketchy." Clint was getting mad too.
"No I don't! I don't understand how you can think that innocent kid could do any harm. The first time I met him he just got done preventing an old lady from getting robbed." Every time Natasha heard Tony talk about Peter she realized how much he liked the kid. She knew Peter really liked Tony too and for some reason this made her mad. She didn't know why but it did.
"Tony that means nothing. It could all just be his disguise." Clint tried to reason with him.
"Guys I think we should all just calm down for a bit." Steve started to intervene.
Tony was too dumbfounded to even respond.
"Can we just agree that both of you make good points?"
"Good points? Are you serious Steve?" Tony's face was turning red from all the anger. "Let me guess, you don't think we should trust Peter too?"
Steve just stood there for a second before responding. "I mean, Clint is kind off right."
"Oh my god." Tony ran his fingers through his hair.
"Tony the kid seems nice but we don't know much about him. You can't blame us for not trusting him fully." Steve tried to explain to them.
"Yes I can! I can blame you. You want to know why? Because all Peter has been is caring towards all of you!" Tony was full on yelling at everyone in the room at this point.
Natasha looked around at everyone and they all had the same expression. Natasha couldn't describe it but it was like they didn't care what Tony had to say. They all just didn't trust Peter.
"Look at all of you!" Tony waved his hand towards all of them. His eyes landed on Bruce. "Last week Peter helped you for days in your lab trying to solve a problem that you couldn't figure out. Instead of writing his essay that was due the next day and worth fifty percent of his grade, he decided to help you. He solved that equation in a day and you couldn't solve it in a year!"
When everyone entered the room in the first place Bruce looked like he was certain that what he did with Peter's DNA was the right thing. But now, now he just look disappointed in himself.
Tony then looked at Wanda and Vision. "You mean to tell me that you guys don't trust him either?" Both Wanda and Vision just stared at him. "So what? You just forgot when Peter watched all of the Twilight movies so he could settle a debate that you two were having over them." Wanda and vision looked down at the ground not speaking.
"I mean come on guys. You think Peter did all of that to just hurt us? What would he gain from it?"
"That's what we are trying to figure out." Natasha stepped in and spoke up.
"Who's we? What did you do?" Tony asked.
Natasha sighed. "I'm the one who suggested we get Peter's DNA tested." Clint looked over at her confused. He didn't know why she was covering up for him.
"You?" Tony sounded shocked.
"Yes. It was me."
"How could you? Peter trusts you. He looks up to you." Tony's face showed a mix of hurt and sadness.
"I want to trust him and I do but I need everyone to feel safe with him too."
"What's even this test of his DNA for?" Sam asked speaking for the first time in forever.
"We wanted to see if Peter's parents are who he really says they are." Bruce explained to everyone.
"Well open it up then. Let's see." Bucky spoke up.
The room went completely silent when Clint started to open the envelope . Everyone waited as he read the results.
"Peter is really who he says he is." Clint finally spoke up after a while of silence.
"Who would have thought the kid was telling the truth." Tony laughed but not with any humor behind it.
"Tony I'm sorry." Clint apologized.
"I bet you are."
"Though I hope you don't think that I trust him now." Clint spoke up again.
"I can't believe this!" Tony was shocked. "Well you are going to hate this then." Tony laughed.
"What do you mean?" Wanda asked.
"We'll just last night Peter asked me something. Apparently his aunt has to go away for a while for work and he asked if he could stay here for the rest of the school year." Tony explained.
"Are you kidding Stark! You can't let him stay here, he could be dangerous." Clint was now the one who was mad.
"That fact that you still find Peter dangerous is alarming. But anyways I said yes. So I guess you all will have to accept that he's going to be around here a lot more often."
No one reacted. No one even moved.
"Well glad to see you guys are so happy to spend time with him, but you know what, I don't know if I trust him with you so we are going on a little trip. I'll tell him that we are going to Mexico or something as a award for all his hard work in school and as a intern."
"You're really awarding him with a trip?" Clint asked.
"Yes and hopefully you will all learn to trust him while I'm gone." Before Tony could speak anymore FRIDAY started to talk.
"Mr. Stark, Peter and Happy have arrived in the front."
"Well there is my cue. I'll see you all in a week or so. Maybe you will be better people when I get back." With that Tony left the room.
"That went well." Natasha half joked.
"I still don't trust him." Clint said while walking out of the room.
"This is going to be fun." Wanda also left the room and soon everyone followed in her steps.
Natasha felt bad. Not only for Peter but for Tony. He really liked the kid and for some reason Natasha hated that.
