"Ugh...I hate this" I groaned the second I woke up. I felt that the flu was already coming yesterday but I didn't think it would come so soon. The headache made me feel like my head was going to explode.
I take my phone to check the time, 4:33 in the morning, "fuck, that wasn't good" I think. So I got up from my bed which was the upper part of the bunk bed and went to the bathroom to check if we had any medicine in the medicine cabinet.
I tried my very best not to rustle too much so as not to wake the others. "Advil, Cortaid, Lotrimin..." I had no idea what any of these were. "Ah! Here, ibuprofen!" I found what I was looking for. I immediately took two of them, hoping they would ease the pain in my head right now. I climbed back up to my bed, careful not to wake Zayn who was sleeping under me.
I closed my eyes and it feels like not even a second had passed before I'm woken up by Louis. "C'mon, wake up man! We have work!"
I gave him a blank stare, "what?".
"What what?" he asked confused. I was still so sleepy that I hadn't even understood what he said. "We have work today, you have to get up now Niall! Everyone else is waiting for you!" Louis added.
"Wait is it today?" I asked, still half asleep. "Niall you're confusing me, wake up you sleepyhead!" Louis voiced as he threw a pillow at me.
I groaned as I got out of my bunk like a goddamn worm and then stood up. As i stood up I started to feel a bit lightheaded so I sat myself down on Zayn's bunk quickly, which was the one under mine.
I saw Louis' expression change to concern. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked croaching down to make eye contact but I had my hands covering my face. "Yeah I guess, just stood up a bit too fast" I mumbled into my hands.
"C'mon, breakfast is already ready, we'll be in a bit of a hurry soon" Louis said as he gave me a hand to help me up. "Thanks".
When we entered the kitchen section of the tour bus we were thrown many confused looks. "What took so long? We've already eaten" Liam frowned. "Is everything okay?" He added.
Harry's POV
Niall seemed to be in a world of his own. I was already a little worried in the morning because usually it was Zayn who woke up last and not Niall. When they got to the kitchen, he seemed a little lost. "Hey Niall, you okay? You look a little pale?" I had to point out, I was worried that he wasn't feeling well and we were pushing work too hard. Not that we could actually decide whether we would have work or not, but if we knew that one of us was unwell, we could at least take it a little easier.
"Niall?" I asked again. He seemed lost, I noticed he was starting to sweat too. "Huh? What?" He suddenly asks, everyone was a bit concerned, this was not our Niall. He was definitely not okay. "No guys, I'm fine. Let me just eat something quick and we can go to work" he tells us, this was weird. One second he's in another world and the other he's just like nothing happened.
"Uhm Niall, are you sure you're okay? The others are right, you do look a bit peaky" Zayn finally said something. He was not that talkactive and definitely not in the mornings. But he cared, just like the rest of us.
"Yeah yeah I'm fine! Do we have cereal?" Niall said as he looked in the drawer full of cutlery. Which made us really concerned. He wasn't himself at all. "Niall, that's the cutlery drawer" Liam said, giving us a worried look.
"Oh, yeah my bad" he said and found the right cupboard. Niall started putting water in the bowl and we all just watched him in total confusion. "Nah this is enough, Niall what the hell is going on?" Louis asks and puts his hand on Niall's sweaty forhead. "Shit, you're burning buddy you need to go back to bed" He added as his expression turned when he felt Niall's forhead. "I'll call Paul, Niall can't come to work today like this. I mean someone has to stay with him?" Liam said, "I can" Louis replied eagerly.
I just watched all the scenes unfold with Zayn while we ate breakfast. Louis and Liam helped Niall back to bed and had to basically feed him.
Liam came back to the kitchen with a nervous look on his face. "What? Is it bad?" I asked. "39.1°C (102.38°F)" Liam replied and our jaws almost fell off. "Shouldn't we take him to a doctor or something?" Zayn asked, still in shock how no one had noticed anything earlier.
"Not yet, we gave him some medication so if it doesn't help in a while then maybe. Now we need to head off for w-" Liam was cut off by a yell coming from the bunks. "Can someone quickly get a trash can or a bowl here?" Louis shouted. "He's throwing up!"
I was quick in action and grabbed the nearest bin to go give it to Louis, luckily I managed in time. Poor Niall, this coudn't be fun. I don't think anyone of us has been this sick in a while.
"There you go buddy, just let it out, everything is okay. You are in good hands" Louis soothed Niall and rubbed his back as he was throwing up. It was horrible to see a friend in such a bad state. "Hey, Harry we need to go" Zayn came by quickly to tell.
Louis's POV
The others had already left some time ago. Niall had just fallen asleep and I was finally able to take a break. Actually, I felt like a single mother of three whose children were all sick.
I had just managed to sit down on the sofa and put on TV but then I heard some noise from the bunks. I sighed and went to look what was happening.
"Shit Niall, shh everything is okay" I soothed. He was breathing heavily and sweating profuselfy. His eyes were closed but I knew he wasn't sleeping. "Niall listen, here, feel this?" I said as i put his hand on my chest, at the same time I felt how hot his body was and it was like it was on fire. "Now copy, copy my breathing okay, easy, deep breaths..." I continued until his breathing eventually calmed down. "Hey, everything is okay buddy. Don't worry. Maybe you had a nightmare or something?" I assumed. "Wha- where's- we- work" he couldn't even form out words properly. Poor boy was so sick.
"Shhh, easy now Niall. Don't worry about anything else, just focus on yourself now. You're okay, we're at the tourbus and the others are at work" I told him. "Wait here, I'll go get you something to drink" I said and went to make him a cup of tea.
Niall's POV
I felt like a complete mess, and I probably was. But in the end, I was actually happy that I didn't have to go to work today and that Louis stayed with me.
"39°C (102,2°F) okay it hasn't rised at least but it's still very high" I heard Louis say, with a hint of concern in his voice. "Okay I think I need to get you to the shower and get you under some cool water, you're like literally on fire it feels like" Louis added after a moment of silence. I was so tired.
"Nooo...no shower please, I'm freezing" I told him. "Niall we need to get your temperature down, c'mon I'll help you" he said and helped me up. Honestly I felt bad for being such a burden to him but I felt so sick at this point.
Louis helped me to undress and then to the shower and let some cool water run on me. It felt amazing actually. At first it felt horrible but as my body adjusted to the cold water it felt better. But i couldn't escape the fact that I still was really sick and it made me feel so weird. "Wait where am I?" I suddenly blurt out. "In the shower Ni? It's okay, don't worry" Louis told me, in a bit confused tone.
After 10 minutes we were finished and Louis helped me back to bed. Even though I felt a bit better I still felt so sick. But I decided to stay silent about it, I was already too much of a burden to Louis.
"Are you feeling any better?" He inquired and I nodded, feeling like I could fall asleep at any second now. "Thanks Lou" I say before my eyes close and I doze off.
Louis's POV
After the shower I helped Niall back to bed and he fell asleep pretty quickly luckily so I could take a little break. Then it hit me that Niall hadn't eaten anything all day, and even though he's sick and probably isn't hungry, he still needs food.
So I go to the kitchen to make him some soup. I grab a few fever reducers for him as well.
Eventually I decided to just let him sleep instead, I'll make sure he gets some food when he wakes up.
Harry's POV
I was quite worried that it'd be total chaos when we arrive back to the tourbus. But to my surprise, it was actually very calm. Louis was resting on the couch while watching TV and Niall was sleeping in his bunk.
"Hey Lou, how's Niall?" I ask quietly. "He's really sick but the fever is going down, slowly, but still it's going down" Louis begun. "I just tried to give him some soup but he didn't really wanna eat...but he did eat some so it's better than nothing" he continued.
"Have you gotten any rest today?" Zayn asked Louis. "Not really, always when he falls asleep he ends up waking up to a nightmare or need to vomit so I've taken care of him the best I can".
"You've been good baby, now it's your turn to rest, someone of us will take care of him the rest of the day" I told Louis as I sat down next to him putting his legs on my own (A/n: if you're confused: Louis is laying on the couch and Harry sits down at the edge to put Louis' legs/feet over his legs).
"Yeah Lou, rest up now, I'll go check on Niall" Liam said.
We took basically turns on taking care of Niall. He was allowed to stay off from work until his fever had went out. It took a week and a half but luckily nothing was worse than today.
