"Are you ok, honey?"
"Yeah, mom, I'm fine." Nabi gave her a reassuring smile as the woman patted her back. She noticed that her daughter had been acting a little bit different, she seemed a bit sad and concerned like she had lots on her mind.
"Is it about college?" her mom looked at her with soft and almost sad eyes. "I'm sorry you had to take a gap year to help me-"
The girl immediately put her hands on her mom's shoulders. "Stop it, it's nothing to apologize for. I agreed to help and I don't regret it. College won't run away."
The woman smiled and hugged Nabi. "Are you sure everything's ok?" she tucked a strand of her daughters hair behind her ear. "With Xiaojun?"
Nabi took a deep breath and went back to wrapping a bouquet that someone had ordered through the phone. "It's complicated."
The woman understood and even though her curiousity was skyrocketing, she decided to let it go. She joined her daughter in decorating the flowers when a customer came in. Both women automatically looked up to welcome her with a smile when someone passing by, with a faded blue hair color, caught Nabi's attention. The girl hadn't seen Mark for over a week and every time the door to their shop opened she hoped it would be him but never was. She was afraid that her thoughts she had that one day while taking a shower were coming true and she'd never see him again. It was the first time someone similar to him walked by and he had to take that chance. Without much hesitation, she suddenly ran out from behind the counter and out of the shop, making her mom and the customer as confused as ever.
"Mark!" she screamed but the person wouldn't turn around. She ran over closer and called his name again, only to have no reaction once more. She finally caught up to the person and tapped their shoulder gently, not wanting to startle them. "I was ca- oh, I'm sorry." she bowed immediately when the person in question turned out to be someone other than Mark. She couldn't help but feel disappointed as she walked back slowly to the flower shop.
"What happened?!"
The girl waved her hand and put on a fake smile. "Nothing, mom, I thought I saw someone I knew."
Nabi whined as her phone buzzed for the nth time that night. Xiaojun had been spamming her all day even though he didn't try to contact her ever since their argument about Valentine's Day. She still didn't feel like talking to him since she had no idea what to tell him. When her phone kept on buzzing from an incoming call, she answered it angrily only to be met with her best friend's surprised voice. "Shit, sorry, Bona. I thought that was Xiaojun."
When Bona found out about yet another argument between the couple, she wanted to visit the girl right away and talk it all over by a bottle of wine to which Nabi agreed gladly. She didn't have to wait for her best friend to knock on her door.
"Nabi-ya, baby." Bona wrapped her arms around frowning Nabi who hugged her back tight.
After the two had finished the whole bottle and the girl new all the details she wanted to know to be able to help Nabi make a decision, the two made one - more important one at that moment - to get more wine.
They were both dressed like twins without actually meaning too, it's just how they were - literal soulmates with the same taste in fashion.
As they finally reached the convenience store that was the closest they could find, they bowed to the worker and walked towards the fridges.
"There's no wine here." Nabi gasped dramatically and Bona followed her mannerism. "What do we do?"
The blonde haired girl smirked and wiggled her eyebrows. "You know, mixing isn't the best idea, but what choice do we have?"
The other burst out laughing and so did Bona, after what both of them started shushing each other to not annoy the worker. They grabbed a six pack of beer and made their way towards the cashier when Nabi noticed something she wanted to grab for the next day so Bona went over to pay alone. Nabi smiled to herself as she picked her favorite soda and turned around without looking when she bumped into someone and dropped the plastic bottle of her drink.
"Shit, I'm sorry." both of them said simultaneously as the boy bended down to pick up her drink. As he stood back up, Nabi froze and so did he. "Mark?"
He smiled awkwardly and handed her the drink. "Hey, Nabi."
"Where have you been? I thought you disappeared from the face of the earth." she said the words sloppily, making the boy chuckle.
"No, no, still here. I'm just stuck in-" he cut himself off just in time not to let himself slip out about being the artist she loved so much "I was just busy. What are you doing here at this hour?"
"Nabi-ya! Are you coming or what?" Bona fixed her posture at the sight of a guy she heard nothing about chatting up her best friend.
Mark glanced at the girl who was obviously drunk and smiled softly as she scanned him carefully.
"I'm coming!" Nabi yelled back. "My friend came over and we had uh.. few glasses of wine."
"Few glasses? More like few bottles, dude." he chuckled and Nabi hit his arm, acting sulky. "Alright, um, I gotta go. Do you live close by? Do you want me to walk you?"
"No, no need. We're two brave women with taekwondo skills."
Mark chuckled again as he nodded, smiling widely. "Alright then, get home safe, ok?"
Nabi nodded and watched Mark turn on his heel. The thought of, once again, not seeing him ever again made her make the next move. He turned back around as soon as she called his name and looked at her with curious eyes. "Can I have your number?"
His heart began to beat faster as he walked over and smiled rather shyly. He scratched the back of his neck and said "yeah, sure, of course."
Nabi smiled widely as she handed her phone to the boy. As he typed in his contact, the girl looked over at Bona who kept on teasing her with kissy faces and all that stupid stuff best friends do out of love, apparently.
"Here you go. I called myself too to have yours as well."
"Oh, smooth." she wiggled her eyebrows to which he once again couldn't help but chuckle.
"Alright, see you around, Nabi."
"See you! Don't be a stranger."
Mark nodded and as he walked past Bona he glanced at her outfit and furrowed his eyebrows. He then looked at Nabi wearing the exact same thing and he laughed, giving the two thumbs up.
Once he left the store Bona ran over to her best friend and hit her arm many times, not believing that she drowned her with problems with Xiaojun and didn't mention a new guy in her life as a sweetener after the bitterness.
