With one swift flick of my arm, Papa's table would've been cleaned in an instant—plus, it would've looked really cool too—however, I couldn't bring myself to do so.

As I began to write with one of the markers I found, I noticed droplets of tears on the paper.

"Nieta."

I just killed the father of my best friend, I was miles away from okay. But Kuya Vito didn't deserve the sarcasm, so I just kept my mouth shut and looked around.

"Anong hinahanap mo?" tanong ni Kuya Vito.

"'Yong cabinet na ginawang taguan ni Papa ng mga mahahaling gamit mula sa lost and found."

I was so confused that I didn't care about coming off as rude anymore. It didn't make sense. Why would Papa trust Gil enough to let him frequent his office? Close ba sila?

I wanted to clearly see the expression on GIl's face, so I picked up my own flashlight and pointed it at him. "Gil?"

Gil flinched over the light that hit his eyes. He threw his head back and raised his hand to shield himself. "May background ako sa IT.

The green-eyed monster inside me suddenly awoken.

"Why would he ask you that? You're not even friends!" I argued.

Gil let out a frustrated sigh. We kept in touch."

He looked at me like I was the most annoying thing in the world—o baka masyado lang siyang nasilaw dahil sa flashlight ko.

I had my doubts about Gil, but I knew that my options were limited. In the end, all I could do was sigh and hope that he won't stab me in the back when the going gets tough.

Alam mo nasaan?"

Gil crossed  his arms and cocked his head to the table's direction. He was giving me the same attitude. Napakanieta.

With the baby asleep and Fatima sitting in the corner of the room, distracted by the laptop, I made sure to lock the doors and closed every curtain to cover our presence.

"Magkukulong tayo rito?" Gil asked, cluelessly watching as he stood near my father's table.

I was grateful for the additional lighting, but I didn't like the color because it made the room look like it was drowning in blood.

With the doors and windows secured, I went back to the table and gestured for Kuya Vito and Gil to come over.

"Anong meron?"

"Bakit?"

"Hanggang kailan pa 'tong bagyong 'to?" I hunched over the table, my palms leaning against its corners. The red lights around us had me unintentionally glaring at them.

I nodded and started writing on the manila paper all over the table. "I guess that gives us 48 hours . . ."

"48 hours?" tanong naman ni Gil.

"48 hours to stay alive," kaswal kong sagot at nagpatuloy sa pagsusulat. "Right now, we're left with two options . . . Stay alive until this typhoon ends so we can escape whatever it is that's happening in this island."

I nodded and looked up at him. "I honestly prefer that option too, but what if this spreads? What if kumalat sa ibang lugar ang kung ano mang kademonyohang nangyayari sa lugar na 'to?"

"Shit . . .

"If this is happening to other places, we should've heard about it on the internet. Look, I'm not sure too, but I have a really bad feeling about this." It took everything in my power not to burst into tears. "Everyone in this island—we could all be the carriers of a horrifying country-wide outbreak."

"Shit . . . " Si Gil naman ang suminghap.

I swallowed hard and absentmindedly pounded my pen over the table. "This is where the second option comes in—we take advantage of the typhoon. I know this super typhoon has more cons than we could ever count, but at least, this will buy us enough time to figure out who started this and if there's a cure."

Although unsure, I had to shake my head.

"The more I think about what happened, the more I realize what it was . . . " Isa-isa akong napatingin sa kanila. "A show. Everything was staged to put on a bloody show."

"Tangina . . . naroon din ba ang gumawa no'n? Nanonood din ba sila?"

"Sila . . . " Mahinang sambit ni Gil.

"Imposibleng isang tao lang ang nagplano nito." I had chills from own words I uttered. "Everything that has happened so far feels meticulous and arrogant. What happened in that seminar, it's like the culprits were bragging 'look what I can do'"

"Kailangan nating malaman agad sino sila." Nagngingitngit na sambit ni Kuya Vito.

"Whoever did this, they're smart and cunning . . .  and they have a burning anger to this island." Pagtatapik ko sa mapang nasa mesa. "We have to list down every suspect we could think of."

May pang-aakusa . . .

Nieta.

"I hate the backwards mindset of some people here, but I still love this island," paghuhugas-kamay ko kaagad.

"Gil, you're only making yourself sound suspicious," saway ko, bagay na ikinabuntonghininga lamang niya.

Gil's eyes turned into slits as he faced Kuya Vito. His gaze felt so cold and accusing.

"Ako?" Kuya Vito snorted and glared at Gil. He pointed at him like he was asking for a fight. "Sa ating lahat, ikaw ang may napakalaking—"

"Tama na nga!" I slammed my hand over the table. The tension in the room was so thick, I didn't feel a bit of sting. I need names. Yung may malaking galit talaga."

Umiling-iling si Kuya Vito. "Masyadong marami. Kailangan natin ng iba pang impormasyon . . . mga ebidensya."

"Case files!" I snapped my fingers. "We need to find the patient zero! It will be easier to trace back the culprit if we find out where it started.

Gil sounded more eager for answers.

"Oh my God . . . " Napapikit ako nang mariin. "This really is a virus. The fever is probably one of the symptoms."

"The Sleepwalker Syndrome."

"Gil, anong sabi mo?"

Gil swallowed hard, his adam's apple moved up and down as he took a deep breath and nodded. "It's the Sleepwalker Syndrome. Fever, nosebleed, loss of hearing, followed by the unexplainable rage and violence in their sleep—these are just some of the symptoms that I could remember from the files. We thought it was pure bullshit."

Pare-pareho silang dilat ngunit tila ba wala sarili. Pare-pareho silang bayolente at tila ba nag-uumapaw sa galit. Sina Madam Laura at Mang Roberto . .

"People turn into monsters in their sleep?" My knees buckled at the realization.

Gil looked at us one by one, fear written all over his face. "Once you notice the symptoms, whatever you do, don't fall asleep."
