By maybankwalker

Ophelia is sitting at the table in the motel and coloring. Dean is at the bathroom sink and trying to get blood out of his jacket. He looks up in the mirror, jumping when he spots Cas.

"God." Dean heavily sighs. Ophelia looks over and sees the angel. "Don't do that."

"Hello, Dean." Cas greets. "Ophelia."

"You should wear a bell or something." Ophelia frowns.

"Angels don't wear bells." Cas states.

"Well, you should." Ophelia mutters.

Dean turns around, Cas too close for his liking.

"Cas, we've talked about this. Personal space?"

"My apologies." Cas steps back. Dean grabs his jacket and walks to one of the beds.

"How'd you find us? I thought we were flying below the angel radar." Dean says.

"You are. Bobby told me where you were." Cas says. "Where are Sam and Natalie?"

"Me, Sam, and Nat are taking separate vacations for a while. So." Dean says.

"They're in a sibling divorce." Ophelia states.

Dean rolls his eyes and Cas looks at her confused.

"You find God yet?" Dean asks the angel. "More importantly, can I have my damn necklace back, please?"

"No, I haven't found him. That's why I'm here. I need your help." Cas says.

"With what? God hunt? Not interested." Dean says.

"It's not God. It's someone else."

"Who?"

"Archangel. The one who killed me."

"Excuse me?"

"His name is Raphael." Cas informs.

"Like the turtle?" Ophelia grins.

"You were wasted by a teenage mutant ninja turtle?" Dean asks.

"I've heard whispers that he's walking the earth." Cas says.

"They live in the sewers." Ophelia says. "But that's in New York."

"This is a rare opportunity." Cas states, ignoring Ophelia's comments.

"For what? Revenge?" Dean asks.

"Information." Cas says.

"So, what, you think you can find this dude and he's just gonna spill God's address?"

"Yes, because we are gonna trap him and interrogate him."

"You're serious about this." Dean says. "So, what, I'm Thelma and you're Louise and we're just going to hold hands and sail off this cliff together?"

"If you have to play dress up, are you gonna wear dresses? Aunt Natty and Rissy would want that picture." Ophelia says.

"There are no dresses, O." Dean states.

"Just checking." She says with a small shrug. "But don't drive off a cliff. I like you alive."

Cas looks between the two, a puzzled look on his face.

"Give me one good reason why I should do this." Dean says.

"Because you're Michael's vessel and no angel will dare harm you." Cas says.

"Oh, so I'm your bullet shield."

"I need your help because you are the only one who'll help me. Please."

"All right, fine." Dean relents after a moment. "Where is he?"

"Maine. Let's go." Cas says. Cas goes to touch Dean's forehead, but the hunter leans back.

"Whoa." Dean stops him.

"What?" Cas asks.

"Last time you zapped me someplace, I didn't poop for a week. We're driving." Dean says.

"Well, what am I gonna do while you guys do this?" Ophelia asks.

"You're gonna isolate yourself into a motel room where you're safe." Dean states.

Libby is sitting in one of the booths and has workbooks on the table.

"Daddy." She calls, getting Sam's attention.

"Hmm?" He hums.

"I need help." She says, a confused frown on her face.

"Yeah." He walks over, leaning down. "With what?" Libby points at one of the problems. "43 minus 12. Okay, so... which numbers do you subtract first?"

"The ones on the right." Libby says, but puts her fingers on the left side of the equation.

"Honey." Sam mumbles, moving her finger to rest over the 3 and 2.

"Oh." She frowns. "Whoops."

"That's okay. You were right, just pointed wrong. So just -- for the moment -- pretend they're not double digit numbers. Just 3 minus 2." Sam holds up three of his fingers. "So take two away."

"1..." Libby lowers one of his fingers. "2..." She lowers another one of his fingers.

"And then what's left?" Sam asks, wiggling his pointer finger.

"1."

"Exactly. Write that down." Sam says and Libby writes the number down. "And then ignore that side and just do 4 minus 1." He holds four fingers up.

"1." She lowers his pinky.

"Which means..."

"3 left."

"And write that down." He says, Libby doing so. "And there's your answer." He points to the answer.

"31?" She asks.

"Exactly." He kisses her on the cheek. "You got the next one?" He asks and she nods. "Okay." He mumbles, standing up.

"Hey, Keith, you play?" A waitress, Lindsey, asks.

"That depends. What are we playing for?" Sam asks.

"World peace." She remarks.

"Oh, is that all?" He retorts.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Shoot."

"You finished that crossword puzzle in the kitchen?"

"Uh, I guess. Why?"

"The New York Times Saturday crossword?"

"Was it?"

"Uh-huh. You blow into town last week, you don't talk to anybody, you homeschool your kid and always bring her in, you're obviously highly educated. You're like this..."

"Riddle wrapped inside an enigma wrapped inside a taco?" He asks and Lindsey nods.

"Enigma?" Libby whispers to herself in confusion.

"Here's what we play for." Lindsey says. "When I win, you buy me dinner and tell me your life story."

"Sounds fair." Sam says. He throws all the darts into the center of the target.

"Very mysterioso. I like it." Lindsey says.

Natalie and Jacob are staying with Bobby for a bit since they haven't found many cases and ones they did find, other hunters go to them.

The phone rings and Bobby answers it, putting it on speaker.

"Sam?" Bobby answers.

"Hey, Bobby. How you doing?" Sam asks.

"Well, I ain't running any marathons, but I'll live." Bobby says.

"He's still so grumpy without leg use." Jacob mutters, the couple making hamburgers.

"Wouldn't you be?" Natalie retorts and Jacob doesn't disagree.

"Where are you?" Bobby asks Sam.

"Uh, Garber, Oklahoma. I found a town up the road showing some Revelation omens." Sam says.

"What omens?" Bobby asks.

"All right, listen to this. "And upon his rising there shall be hail and fire mixed with blood.""

"Well, ain't that delightful."

"Yeah. But we already got hailstorms and fire so I'm guessing blood can't be too far behind."

"Okay."

"What?"

"There a reason you're calling?"

"Dean didn't tell you?"

"He told me. Hell, I got Nat and Jacob here now. They told me."

"Yeah. So I just thought you might want to find out who's in the area and put a man on this."

"Okay, let me see if I can think of the best hunter who might be in the immediate vicinity -- oh, that'd be you."

"I can't, Bobby, I'm sitting this one out."

"Sam--"

"I gotta go. I'm so sorry."

"Hold on, Sam--" The hunter hangs up and Bobby sighs.

"Well, I see Sam's still out." Jacob comments.

"Well, if he isn't doing it for himself, he's probably doing it for Libby. Lord knows that child needs a very long break." Natalie says.

"You think Oph's good?" Jacob asks.

"Dude, she calls you, like, every other day. Don't you know?" Natalie asks.

"Well, this isn't one of those days."

"It's 11 AM. You still have some time."

~ ~ ~

Sam puts the phone down.

"I wanted to talk to Grandpa Bobby." Libby whines.

"Sorry, sweetie." Sam winces. "You ready for bed?"

"Mm-hmm." Libby nods.

"Did you brush your teeth?" He asks.

"Yep." She nods, but Sam notices her stare at his chest and not his face.

"Elizabeth." He gives her a look.

"Okay, fine." She dramatically sighs, trudging to the bathroom.

After brushing her teeth, Libby makes her way over to the bed and gets in.

"You all set?" Sam asks, tucking her in.

"Eeyore." She says.

"Ah. Right." Sam looks around, spotting the stuffed animal on the couch. He walks over and grabs it before giving it to Libby. "Now you good?" He asks and she nods.

"I have a question, though." Libby says, sitting up.

"What?" Sam asks.

"Why do we have to use fake names?" She asks.

"To protect us. Since the whole, uh... the Lucifer thing, if people know we did it, they'd be really mad."

"But hunters already know who you are."

"Well, they might know my name, but they may not know what I look like."

"You've been wanted by the FBI, like, three times. I feel like they know what you look like."

"All right, smarty pants." Sam gently pinches her nose, shaking her head slightly, and she giggles. "It's just for some precaution, all right? Besides since I've been wanted by the FBI, like, three times, I can't really use my real name. They do think I'm a dangerous criminal whose dead."

"But you're like a giant puppy dog." Libby says. Sam gives her a confused look. "That's what Aunt Natty and Rissy call you." Sam chuckles.

"Well, not everybody thinks so." Sam says. "Anything else?"

"Do... well..." Libby tightens her grip on Eeyore as she tries to think of how to ask.

"What, baby?" Sam gently prompts.

"Do you ever want more blood?" She asks.

"Mm... on the occasion, yeah. Why do you ask?" Sam asks, though he feels he already knows where this is going.

"I want more." Libby says.

"I thought you hated it." Sam frowns.

"Well, I-- I did. Up until... until near the end. Then I liked it. And now I want it." Libby says.

"I'm so sorry, baby." Sam lets out a quiet, sad sigh. "I should've-- I never should've put you through that. It-- this is all on me, honey, I'm sorry." He pulls her closer to him and hugs her. "I'll help you through it. I promise."

"Is it ever gonna go away?" Libby asks.

"Hopefully." Sam mumbles. "Come on." He stands up. "How does falling asleep to Beauty and the Beast sound?"

"Really?" Libby grins.

"Mm-hmm." Sam nods and Libby excitedly nods. Sam puts the movie into the VCR before walking back over to the bed.

"You have to actually fall asleep to it, though." Sam tells her.

"What if I watch it once and then we replay it and I fall asleep during the second time?" Libby suggests, grinning.

"Bessie." Sam gives her a look as he climbs in the bed.

"Fine." She dramatically sighs making Sam chuckle.

"C'mere, you little dramatic dork." Sam pulls her into his side, tickling her abdomen making her giggle and squirm.

Libby is sitting in one of the booths while Sam works.

"Hey, Sam." She hears a guy say. She looks around and sees a few guys waiting for her father to respond. "Sam."

"Sam? What happened to Keith?" Lindsey asks.

"Wait, what?" Sam asks, putting the tray he's holding down.

"He called you Sam." Lindsey points to the one of the three guys.

"Yeah. Uh, Sam's my middle name." Sam says and Lindsey laughs.

"Keith Sam? Man, I'm sorry." She says.

"Well, actually, it's Samuel, so it's not quite as dumb as it sounds." Tim says.

"Are you guys friends?" Lindsey asks.

"Hunting buddies. With his dad. Samuel here is quite the hunter himself." Steve says.

Libby walks over and tugs on her dad's shirt. He glances down at her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.

"Wow. You killed deer and things?" Lindsey asks.

"Yeah, and things." Tim chuckles.

"Um... why don't I get you guys some drinks?" Sam offers. The three hunters sit down at a table and Sam gets them some beers. He sets the beers down and sits down. Libby, who has been following him, grabs onto his sleeve. Sam pulls her onto his lap, keeping an arm around her waist so she doesn't fall off.

"Sorry. Didn't mean to bust you back there." Tim says.

"No, it's all right. So, what's up?" Sam asks.

"Bobby called." Tim says.

"And?" Sam asks.

"You were right. Major demon block party going on." Tim says.

"But why? What are they up to?" Sam asks.

"Don't know yet." Steve says.

"Bobby told us you were off limits. That true?" Reggie asks.

"Yeah, that's right." Sam nods.

"That's fine in theory and all, but we could really use all hands on deck here." Tim says.

"I know you could. But I can't. I'm sorry." Sam says.

"Why not?" Steve asks.

"It's personal." Sam says.

"Look, man, what baggage is so heavy it can't be stowed away for the fucking apocalypse?" Tim asks.

"Like I said--" Sam starts.

"Yeah. You're sorry. Heard it the first time." Reggie says.

"Suit yourself. More for us then, right?" Tim says.

"Good luck." Sam says.

"But hey. Beers are on you when we get back." Tim says.

"Yeah, you bet." Sam says. He gets up and holds Libby, walking away.

"So your parents were drunk when they named you and you shoot Bambi?" Lindsey asks.

"It's a long story." Sam says.

"That is it. Enough with the kung fu wandering the earth thing. I'm gonna buy you dinner and we're gonna talk." Lindsey says.

"Lindsey, I can't."

"No. The only way to avoid bloodshed is to say yes."

"I have a kid." Sam says, motioning to Libby who awkwardly smiles at being mentioned.

"Well, I know a good babysitter. Or we can just eat here, she'll sit in her usual booth." Lindsey says.

Jacob and Natalie are on the couch. They were researching, but are now making out. They don't hear Bobby wheel in and he rolls his eyes.

"You two wanna get a room?" He asks making the two jump apart. "Preferably in a motel in town. I don't wanna hear you guys."

"Hilarious, Bobby." Jacob comments.

"Not joking." Bobby says, going over to his desk.

Jacob's phone starts ringing and he fishes it out of his pocket.

"Oh. It's Oph." He says, getting up.

"Oh, come on. We were-- we were gonna do some fun stuff." Natalie whines.

"I'll make it quick." Jacob promises, rushing out.

"I swear he loves her more than me." Natalie pouts.

"Don't blame him." Bobby teases and Natalie gives him an offended look.

"See if I ever stay here again." She grumbles, getting up and walking out.

"Oh, no. Whatever will I do to cope." Bobby mutters, rolling his eyes.

Libby is sitting at the bar and coloring while Sam finishes cleaning up. She's never able to fall asleep at the bar so she's practically half asleep.

"Bar's closed." Sam calls out when he hears the bell on the door chime. He turns around to the person who walked in. "Hey." He says, seeing Tim.

"Something you want to tell me, Sam?" Tim asks.

"What? No." Sam says.

"You sure about that?" Tim asks.

"I-- I don't know... jeez. Are you okay?" He asks, seeing blood on Tim's face and clothes. "Where are Reggie and Steve?" Sam asks.

"Oh, Steve's good. He's, uh... his guts are lying roadside outside the Hawley Five and Dime." Tim says. Libby's eyes widen in horror.

"I'm sorry." Sam tells him.

"Sorry don't cut it, Sam." Tim says.

"What do you want me to say?"

"The truth." He says, but Sam doesn't say anything. Libby nervously glances between the two. "Okay, fine. Let me give you some of my own, then. We go into town, we catch ourselves a demon, we get jumped by ten more. Steve bought it."

"I'm sorry." Sam says again.

"Saying it twice don't make it so, Sam. You see, this demon, he, uh, he told us things. Crazy things... things about you, Sam. About you and Libby."

"Demons lie." Sam says.

"Yeah. I'm gonna ask you one last time. The truth. Now." Tim demands. Sam hesitates and Tim grabs Libby making her shriek and he holds her while she struggles against him.

"Hey! Hey!" Sam shouts.

The door chimes and Reggie walks in, dragging Lindsey with him.

"Lindsey!" Sam calls. Reggie holds a knife to the woman's throat.

"What's going on?" Lindsey asks.

"Just take it easy, okay?" Sam says. "Put the knife down." Reggie puts the knife on the bar, but doesn't let go of Lindsey. "It's true. What the demons said, it's all true."

"Keep going." Tim says, wrapping a hand around Libby's throat.

"Daddy." She cries, still trying to fight against Tim's hold.

"Why? You gonna hate me any less? Am I gonna hate myself any less? What do you want?" Sam asks.

"I want to hear you say it." Tim says.

"I did it." Sam says, barely hesitating when he notices Tim's hold on Libby's throat tighten. "I started the apocalypse."

Tim lets go of Libby's throat, the young girl letting out a few strained coughs. Tim pulls out two test tubes that involve a red liquid. Libby's eyes widen when she realizes what it is.

"What is that?" Sam asks.

"What do you think it is?" Tim asks. "It's go juice, Sammy boy."

"Get that away from me. Get that away from her." Sam orders.

"Away from you two? No. This is for you. Hell, if that demon wasn't right as rain. Down the hatch, kids." Tim says.

"You're insane." Sam says.

"Here's what's gonna happen. You're gonna drink this, Hulk out, and you're gonna waste every one of the demon scum that killed my best friend." Tim says. "Or she dies." He motions to Lindsey who is handcuffed to the bar.

"You wouldn't do that." Sam says.

"It's funny how watching your best friend die changes that." Tim says. "But we'll go for the smaller one first." Tim makes Libby sit on the bar.

"No!" She yells, still squirming.

"Hey! Let her go!" Sam yells, starting to storm over, but Reggie aims his gun at him.

"Don't." Reggie warns.

"That's not gonna stop me." Sam hisses, still storming over. But he freezes when Reggie presses the gun to Libby's head, the cool metal making her freeze.

"Okay, hey. Hey." Sam holds his hands up.

"Daddy." Libby sobs. Sam ignores the ache in his heart, not knowing how to save her.

"Okay, jus-- just let her go, all right? Look, I'll do whatever the fuck you want. I-- come on, guys. She-- she's six years old. She's just a little kid." Sam says.

"That didn't stop her before." Tim sneers, opening one of the tubes. "Open up, brat."

Libby keeps her lips pressed together and shakes her head. Tim roughly grabs her cheeks making her whine.

"Tim, just listen--"

"Open your mouth or I'ma blow your brains out, kid." Reggie threatens.

"Hey!" Sam bellows.

Libby looks over at Sam as she still tries to keep her mouth shut. Sam has a helpless look in his eyes, his heart hammering in his chest.

"Just-- drink it, baby." Sam softly tells her. She whines. "I know, just-- you have to drink it, honey. It's okay. Just drink it."

Libby still has the terrified look in her eyes as she stops fighting so much. With both Tim and Reggie focused on her, Sam sees his chance and takes it.

As Tim puts the tube past her lips, Sam attacks Reggie, moving his arm so the gun faces the ceiling. Reggie pulls the trigger, firing into the ceiling, and the noise makes Libby jump.

Sam tosses Reggie into one of the pool tables and turns to Tim.

"Let her go." He demands.

Instead, Tim grabs a fistful of Libby's hair and forces the demon blood into her mouth. She lets out muffled screams, kicking and swatting at the hunter.

Sam charges at him, tackling him away from Libby. The girl coughs, spitting out the demon blood, and crying.

Reggie rushes over to the two men and he and Tim manage to restrain Sam as Tim pours demon blood into Sam's mouth. Tim puts his hand over Sam's mouth, the two only letting go of him after he swallows. Sam drops to the floor and slowly gets up.

"There. Was that really so bad?" Tim asks.

Sam spits the blood in Tim's eye and fights the two. He grabs Tim and slams him into the bar before grabbing Reggie's discarded knife and holding it to Tim's throat.

"Daddy!" Libby sobs.

Sam looks over at her before looking at Lindsey who is terrified. He looks back at Libby, the girl sobbing.

Sam shoves Tim over to Reggie.

"Go." Sam orders.

"Don't think we won't be back." Tim threatens.

"Don't think I won't be here." Sam practically challenges them.

Sam grabs Libby and uncuffs Lindsey who quickly leaves. Sam puts Libby back on the bar.

"No." She whines.

"Hey, Hey, I'm not leaving your sight. I just gotta get some towels, okay?" He says, smoothing some of her hair down.

He grabs some clean rags and wipes his mouth and chin with one of them. He goes back over to Libby and gently starts to wipe the blood off her face.

"You okay?" He asks.

"No." She sniffles.

"Did you swallow any of it?" He asks.

"A-- a little." She hiccups. "Is that bad?"

"It's not super great. But we'll deal with it. I promise. You'll be okay." Sam assures, kissing her on the head. "I'm sorry, baby." He whispers, stroking her hair.

"I just wanna go home." She sniffles.

"I gotta clean up first and then we can go home." Sam tells her.

Libby frowns but nods, knowing she doesn't have an option.

"Want me to hold you the whole time? I had that whole multitask thing down when you were a toddler." Sam says. Libby nods, wrapping her arms around his neck. Sam picks her up, kissing her on the head, and tightly holding onto her.

It's been a couple of weeks and Dean called the twins, getting them to meet up.

Jacob pulls up to where Sam and Dean's cars are parked and the two get out.

"Aunt Natty!" The two girls cheer.

"Ah, there's my favorite munchkins." Natalie grins, holding her arms out as the two crash into her. "I missed you guys."

"I missed you, too." Libby says, tightening her grip around her aunt's waist.

"Me, too." Ophelia says. "Jacob!" She runs over to him.

"Hey, hey." He lightly laughs as she hugs him. "Good to see you, too, kiddo."

Ophelia pulls away and punches him in the leg.

"Ow. What was that for?" He asks.

"You suck at saying goodbye." She pouts.

"Sorry." Jacob says, ruffling her hair.

Dean pulls Ruby's knife out and Sam looks at it. Dean holds the knife out to Sam.

"If you're serious and you want back in... you should hang on to this. I'm sure you're rusty."

"What, I don't get anything?" Natalie asks.

"You're not rusty." Dean says.

Sam takes the knife.

"Look, man, I'm sorry. I don't know. I'm... whatever I need to be. But I was, uh-- wrong." Dean says.

"What made you change your mind?" Sam asks.

"Long story." Dean says. "The point is... maybe we are each other's Achilles heel. Maybe they'll find a way to use us against each other, I don't know. I just know we're all we've got. More than that. We keep each other human,"

"Thank you. Really. Thank you. I won't let you down." Sam says.

"Oh, I know it. I mean, you are the second best hunter on the planet." Dean says.

"I'm gonna put him in the middle because I'm saying I'm first and I don't like you as much so you're... five." Natalie says and Ophelia quietly giggles.

"Five?" Dean asks.

"Yeah. Me, Rissa, Sam, Jacob, you." Natalie lists.

"I agree." Ophelia nods.

"Wh-- hey." Jacob frowns.

"I love you." She grins. "Speaking of, I'll call Larissa, see if she's up for drama island." Natalie takes her phone out.

"Okay, so-- so, what do we do now?" Sam asks.

"Be offended by my girlfriend." Jacob mutters.

"You're number one in her heart. That's what matters." Libby says, patting Jacob's arm.

"We make our own future." Dean says.

"Guess we have no choice." Sam says.
