Maddox POV

I was pissed off.

I wanted to rip fucking Amy to pieces.

The hurt I saw in the new girl’s eyes would haunt me forever. I would never forget the painful clenching of my heart as I watched fucking Amy torture that girl.

Why? Why the fuck did it bother me? Why did I want to punch the living shit out of Amy?

I could tell that Milo wanted to do the same. Actually, I had to stop him from killing Amy. The way he was looking at her while she was talking to the new girl sent shivers down my spine. He looked ready to kill Amy. He started to move toward her, but I stopped him. I knew that I had to do something and get the new girl out of there before Amy continued torturing her and before Milo killed Amy.

But why? Why did I even have to stop Amy from torturing the girl? Why didn’t we laugh and join in on the fun? Why did I have to stop my brother from killing Amy? Why did I have to stop myself from killing fucking Amy?

Why?!

Why did the look of pain on her face make me want to burn the world down? Why did just the thought of someone hurting her make me want to kill?

When Amy asked if her parents ever hit her, I saw fucking red. I was ready to find them and kill them. I was ready to do whatever I had to do to make sure that they never touched a hair on her head.

At the same time, I hated her. She was poor. Her clothes and shoes were old. Everyone was comparing her to us. We were handsome, popular, and rich. We could have any girl we wanted. We could have everything.

Being compared to a girl like her wouldn’t do us any good.

I hated her for coming to our school.

Why did she have to come here?

Why?

“What the fuck was that, Zack?” Milo asked angrily as soon as we sat down in our car. “Why did you defend the poor little girl?”

Zack clenched his fists and tightened his jaw.

“You are going to regret this.” Zack said. “You need to find out who she is. You need to find out what she is to you. She is something. I’m sure of it.”

Anger exploded inside of me. She was nothing!

“Are you fucking with me right now?” Milo asked as he turned around to look at Zack. “When we were in the cafeteria, you told us that she was no one. You told us that it’s a coincidence that she looks like us.”

“That was before I saw her!” Zack exclaimed. “Are you blind?! She fucking looks like you!”

I glanced at Milo and saw his jaw clench.

“She looks nothing like us.” Milo said angrily. “She is nothing. She is no one.”

“Deny it all you want, Miles.” Zack sighed. “She looks a lot like you two. She looks like she could be your sister.”

I snorted, but I felt my stomach twist when he said the word ‘sister’.

“That poor, ugly thing?” I asked as I tightened my grip on the steering wheel.

“You are going to regret this.” Zack said coldly as he crossed his arms over his chest. “You should at least talk to your parents about it before you torture the girl any further. Maybe they know something.”

I glanced at Milo.

Yeah, no.

Number one, we never talked to our parents about anything other than money. Number two, our parents would be furious if we mentioned a girl who could be related to us. Our dad and his brother were proud of having only sons in their family. They always pointed out how having only sons meant that their bloodline would always stay strong. It was a bunch of delusional, old-dated ideas, but it was something that Milo and I grew up listening to. Neither our cousins nor we believed in that, but we did know what our parents thought about having a girl. It was a huge no.

“Just stop defending the girl.” Milo grunted at Zack.

Zack mumbled something under his breath and looked through the car window.

I tightened my jaw and focused on the road. I couldn’t wait to be alone with Milo. I needed his reassurance, and I could tell that he needed mine.

She was nothing. She was no one. She wasn’t important. She wasn’t ours. She wasn’t mine.

She was some charity case that happened to look a little bit like Milo and me.

Before I knew it, I was parked in front of Zack’s house.

“Just think about what I said.” Zack said as he grabbed his backpack and opened the car door. “I could be wrong. But if I’m not and she is somehow related to you, you will be sorry. Don’t hurt her. I can tell that she’s been through enough.”

I glanced at my twin. His fists were clenched, and he was staring through the car window.

“I will see you tomorrow, Zack.” I said, keeping my eyes on my brother.

Zack sighed and stepped out of the car. As soon as he closed the car door, I started driving away.

“She is no one, Milo.” I said. “She is nothing.”

My brother closed his eyes and took a deep breath. His whole body was rigid. His fists were clenched, and he was gritting his teeth so hard that I thought he would break them.

Milo looked at me, and for a second, I thought that he was going to disagree with me.

But then his eyes darkened and his jaw clenched.

“She is nothing.” he said coldly.

I gulped and nodded.

Nothing. No one. Just some poor little girl whose parents are some lowlifes. Just some poor little girl who, coincidentally, has the same eyes as Milo and me. Just some poor little girl who, coincidentally, has the same hair as Milo and me. Just some poor little girl who, coincidentally, looks like she could be our sister.

But she wasn’t. She definitely wasn’t ours.

She definitely wasn’t mine.
