"YOU DON'T THINK THAT GRIM THINGS GOT ANYTHING TO DO WITH SIRIUS BLACK, DO YOU?"
you were all now walking down the steps outside out towards hagrid's hut where the care of magical creatures class was taking place, you were excited to have hagrid as your teacher now.
"oh, honestly, ron. if you ask me, divinations a very woolly discipline"
you nod slightly, "i dunno, ron. i think i agree, it feels like trelawney was just tormenting poor neville"
"now, ancient runes, that's a fascinating subject" hermione says.
"ancient runes? exactly how many classes are you taking this term?" ron sighs out exasperatedly.
"a fair few"
ron suddenly stops, "hang on. that's not possible"
you stop next to hermione.
"ancient runes is on the same time as divination" ron says as hermione starts walking again with you following behind.
"you'd have to be in two classes at once" ron says.
"don't be silly. how could anyone be in two classes at once? 'broaden your minds. use your inner eye to see the future' " she mocks, giggling slightly. you blink.
you all hurry down to hagrid's hut as more students get down there.
hagrid steps out as everyone made it down there, "that's it. come on, now. come closer. less talking, if you don't mind"
you smile, hagrid seemed to be holding back his excitement to be teaching a class.
"i got a real treat for you today" he puts his hands on his hips.
"a great lesson" he nods, "so follow me"
he steps down and you all follow him into a snippet of forest, walking for a while until he leads you by a long trail of stacked rocks.
a few of them were fallen over so that's where you all stepped over.
"right, you lot. less chattering. form a group over there" he waves his finger, "and open your books to page 49"
you look down at your book, inspecting it.
you slowly stroke your finger down the spine, eyes widening slightly as it opens.
"and exactly how do we do that?" draco steps up onto a piece of wood.
"just stroke the spine, of course. goodness me. see! [name] go it!" hagrid sighs before smiling, you smile bashfully.
pansy gives you a look.
a few people back, neville falls to the ground as his book tries to eat him alive.
you squeak in worry, hurrying over to him and pulling the book off of him, stroking it's spine.
he whines in relief, "oh, geez. thanks, [name]" he blushes slightly.
you flush, holding your cheeks, "ohh, it's no problem!"
you wave, walking back over to hermione.
hermione puts her book on the rock behind her, "i think they're funny"
"oh, yeah. terribly funny"
you frown slightly as you all turn back to draco.
"really witty. god, this place has gone to the dogs. wait until my father hears that dumbledore's got this oaf teaching classes"
your eyes widen slightly, anger swelling in your heart that he could say something no mean.
crabbe and goyle laugh along with him while pansy crosses her arms at you all, sniggering at you.
you immediately feel self-conscious again, shrinking in on yourself. hermione eyes you, confused.
harry steps up to malfoy, you step back to let him get passed.
"shut up, malfoy"
the boys 'oo', draco shoves his bag in crabbe's hands.
he walks up to harry, towering over him with a smirk.
you furrow your eyebrows as draco looks just above harry's head in fear.
"dementor! dementor!" he points upwards.
harry whips around in fear, you clutch your wand tightly only to sigh out. there was nothing there, draco was just mocking him.
they all laugh, putting their hoods on and waving their fingers, making 'oo'ing sounds.
you frown, eyebrows furrowed.
hermione pulls both of you away, snarling at the boys who continue to laugh at you both, except draco's laugh had dimmed a little.
"just ignore him" she whispers to you both.
"you're supposed to stroke it" ron shakes his head at neville, whose uniform was torn to bits, "yeah" he says blankly, "at least [name] helped me" he smiles slightly.
hagrid clears his throat aggressively, you all look up at him.
"dudududaaa" he spreads his arms, everyone steps back in shock.
just behind hagrid was a large type of horse, or bird? it had giant wings and it's feathers were a steel grey and it had a silver beak.
you gasp excitedly, holding your cheeks as your face was flushed.
"isn't he beautiful?" hagrid tosses him a ferret from around his shoulders.
you grin widely,
oh yes he is! awwhhh! he's so cuteee! eee!!
"say hello to buckbeak"
you buzz with excitement.
"hagrid.. exactly what is that?" ron says.
"that, ron, is the hippogriff"
you awe,
hippogriff..
"first thing you wanna know 'bout hippogriffs, is that they're very proud creatures. very easily offended. you do not want to insult a hippogriff. it may just be the last thing you ever do"
you grin, blushing in excitement.
"now, who'd like to come and say hello?" he clasps his hands together.
you step forward excitedly, everyone else besides you and harry steps backward dramatically.
you glance back.
"well done, [name], harry. well done"
harry looks back, just now noticing he had involuntarily volunteered himself.
"come on now"
you step forward while ron has to push harry forwards.
"now.. you have to let him make the first move. it's only polite. so.. step up. give him a nice bow. then you wait and see if he bows back. if he does, you can go touch and him. if not.. well, we'll get to that later. you first, [name]"
you jump slightly in excitement, stepping forward without hesitance.
everyone looks at you and the bird in fear as you bow down 90 degrees.
buckbeak swings his wings slightly and without another second, bows back.
you grin excitedly, stepping up and bringing your hand to his beak, rubbing it tenderly.
he bows his head slightly.
hagrid blinks in amazement, clapping, "amazing job. right, you next, harry"
the others watch in awe as you pat the bird without an ounce of fear, cooing to it as if it were a baby.
harry steps up nervously, "now make your bow"
he bows down, "nice and low" hagrid urges.
he bows the same as you, glancing up at buckbeak.
buckbeak looks from you to him, clicking his beak and and flapping his wings, you step backwards to avoid getting hit, he squawks at harry angrily. hagrid steps forward slightly, "back off, harry. back off!"
you frown in worry.
harry steps back, stepping on a twig and cracking it.
hermione gasps in fear, grabbing ron's sleeve.
"keep still" hagrid says worriedly.
harry glances up at the bird, "keep still" hagrid whispers.
buckbeak squawks a bit before giving a low bow back to harry, you breathe out in relief, fanning your cheeks.
hagrid chuckles excitedly, "well done, you two. well done. here, you big brute, you" hagrid chucks buckbeak another ferret.
harry breathes out in relief as he stands up straight.
"right. i think you can go and pat him now" hagrid nods, harry looks at him.
you nudge your head towards buckbeak, "come on, harry. he's so cute, isn't he?!"
draco pushes through the students, chewing on a green apple from his bag.
"nice and slow, now. nice and slow" hagrid says as harry steps slowly up to buckbeak, you rub buckbeak's back soothingly.
harry brings his hand up, stepping closer.
"not so fast, harry"
buckbeak snaps his beak at him, hermione gasps in fear again, this time grabbing ron's wrist.
ron looks down at it and hermione hastily lets go, they both look away awkwardly.
"slow down, harry. that's it"
"nice and slow" harry gasps in fear, pulling his hand back slightly as buckbeak steps forwards.
"now let him come to you"
you take your hand off buckbeak's back, stepping back slightly.
"slowly" hagrid repeats as harry steps forwards slowly, buckbeak brings his head down towards his hand.
"that's it.."
harry pats buckbeak's head, you grin. "yes!" hagrid claps.
"well done! well done, harry and [name], well done!"
everyone claps along with hagrid, you step back up, patting the other side of buckbeak's head.
"i think he may let you both ride him now"
you both turn to hagrid, "what?"
"come on" hagrid picks harry up first, "hey! hey hey hey!" harry shouts nervously.
"put you over there, just behind the wing joint" hagrid places harry on buckbeak, picking you up next, you squeak in fear.
"don't pull out any of his feathers. 'cause he won't thank you for that"
hagrid smacks buckbeak on the back, he swings back, you shriek and hold onto harry's shoulders, who was shouting in fear as well as he grabbed buckbeak's neck, wrapping his arms around it.
buckbeak starts to run forwards, you hold onto harry's waist tightly, "hold on tightly!" hagrid shouts.
buckbeak reaches the edge, jumping up and flying right over.
you scream in awe and fear.
buckbeak flies over the trees, you hold tightly onto harry who had a tint of pink on his cheeks, not only were you holding onto him, but he could feel your chest pressing onto his back.
you breathe out in awe as buckbeak flies over hogwarts, giving you an excellent view of the whole castle. students look up from down below, shouting in shock and pointing at you both in the sky.
buckbeak flies through two of the towers and down between the mountain range, he ducks down, flying just above the water.
you let go of harry reluctantly, sitting up slightly. he does the same, spreading his arms and shouting in excitement.
you follow suit, grinning widely and tilting your head back.
buckbeak raises to the sky again, forcing you to grab harry's waist again.
buckbeak flies back down through the trees and down onto the ground.
everyone starts clapping madly.
"well done, harry and [name], and well done, buckbeak!"
"that was wicked, you two!"
you let go of harry as hagrid pulls you both down, "well done, well done"
you breathe out exasperatedly, fixing at your messy hair.
hagrid bends down in front of you both, "how a i doing me first day?"
you grin, harry does the same, "brilliant, professor"
hagrid smiles.
you look back as draco pushes through everyone, stepping right up to buckbeak.
"yes, you're not dangerous at all, are you? you great ugly brute!"
you gasp offendedly as if he said it to you.
"malfoy, no.."
buckbeak squawks in offense, raising his front legs and scratching draco across the elbow. he falls back dramatically.
you felt bad, but at the same time you didn't.
hagrid did warn everyone.
"buckbeak!" hagrid shouts at the bird who was still raging, "woha, whoa, whoa.." he waves his arms, telling him to back off, "buckbeak!" he shouts, probably showing dominance or something, throwing buckbeak a ferret for him to calm down and run off somewhere else.
"away, you silly creature.."
everyone surrounds draco who was rolling around dramatically, holding his arm in pain, "oh, it's killed me! it's killed me!"
hagrid kneels down next to him, "calm down. it's-it's just a scratch!"
hermione storms forwards, "hagrid! he has to be taken to the hospital!"
hagrid nods, "i'm the teacher. i'll do it"
hagrid picks draco up as he whines dramatically, "oh, you're gonna regret this"
"class dismissed!"
"you and your bloody chicken!"
buckbeak nudges your face with his beak, you rub his beak affectionately, "don't listen to what he says, you cutie. it wasn't your fault"
