"you heard that right. i am breaking up with you."
"but why?"
she was in shock. of course she tried to keep it cool. but truth to be told, it was too much to take in. she should've expected it sooner or later, right? but it was her first relationship. first time she allowed herself to fall in love and give her all. but maybe in the end, it was just one-sided.
"i don't think we work well together. you're too tiring."
tiring? so he viewed all of her efforts as tiring? she didn't say anything, she just blankly stared, expecting all of this to just be a really bad dream. but it wasn't.
"i think there's nothing else to say. goodbye y/n."
"so you never actually loved me...?"
just as he was about to leave, he heard her speak. such a foolish question, he thought to himself.
"love? tch you expect too much. grow up. we're just in our first year of college and we dated in high school, you thought this was love?"
"what does that have to do with this?"
"look, this wasn't love. no one asked you to take this seriously. how naive can you be?"
he was getting annoyed by her 'useless' questions. he thought his reply was a little rude but he had too much pride at that moment to even reconsider what he just said. maybe he was right. this was all her fault. for expecting too much, for giving her all and getting nothing in return. this was nothing new.
"if you have nothing else to say, i'll get going now."
with that, he left her sight, slowly disappearing into the path that looked endless and empty. no, this was not the last time she was gonna see him. they still studied in the same university after all. but things will be very different from now on.

she was glad all this happened on a weekend at least. she could spend her entire day crying tomorrow in her room.
when she entered her dorm which she shared with her roommate mona, she was greeted a happy "hi!". y/n looked up and immediately smiled back. she wasn't ready to talk about what happened to her with mona, or to anyone.
maybe she would tell her best friend, hu tao, on monday.
"what took you so long to come back?"
"i stopped by to have some ramen."
"oh you and your obsession with ramen..."
"that's right. so i'm not gonna have dinner tonight, sorry."
"that's ok y/n. good night."
"night."
she gave y/n a smile which y/n returned back. she lied, she was just not hungry. she walked to her single room and immediately closed the door to avoid any more questions.
she felt empty. was she overreacting? maybe this was not a big deal after all? she has had people come into her life and leave her, and she couldn't care less. it's not like it didn't affect her at all, she just got used to it at some point. but why couldn't she digest the break up? why did she feel weak? why was she hurt so much? was she that unlovable?
without realising, a tear dropped from her eye. she tried her best to not cry but she was alone in her room, nobody was watching, so she gave in. silently crying and recalling all of her memories which once held a meaning, but now they just bring nothing but painful emotions.
looking over to her table, she saw her unfinished assignments. her relationship never affected her in her studies. in fact, she and scaramouche used to have study dates together. he was smart, she wasn't any less. so their study dates were enjoyable.
she sat down on her chair and decided to finish some of her assignments and leave some for tomorrow. maybe she could use that as an excuse if someone wanted to meet up with her tomorrow. even though she was smart, she always struggled with deadlines.

[next morning] 10:00am
"y/n!! are you awake?" mona knocked on her door. when she got to response, she knocked a few more times.
"y/n!! it's 10 already! how much longer will you sleep!?"
"go away." y/n replied in a sleepy voice, which was almost faint to mona's ears.
"ughh so annoying. look i'm going out with my friends. i'll be back in the evening."
"okay." was all mona heard from the other side of the door. sighing, she walked away and headed out of the dorm.
now it was y/n all alone. minutes after mona went, y/n tried falling asleep again. but because of getting woken up, she couldn't. so she thought it'd just be best for her to wake up completely. looking over to her phone, she saw a few personal messages from hu tao and some from her group chat.
