Harlem,NY.
"KALANI GET YOUR LAZY ASS UP AND DO SOMETHING" I heard my mother shout from the kitchen.
I sucked my teeth as I got up, sliding on my crocs.
"Ma what do you want?" I asked pissed off.
"Go run to the store for me" She replied.
"Okay." I said as I rolled my eyes making sure she couldn't see.
"Also watch your mouth" She said as she dug through her purse searching for money.
"Here" she said as she finished going through her purse, handing me a 20 dollar bill.
"Get us some snacks and get me a bag of jolly ranchers" She said.
I just nodded as I grabbed my phone walking out the door.
I loved my mom because she gave birth to me but she really got on my nerves.
After my dad left she acted different.
Like she had no affection towards me or my sister anymore. I started to slowly show the same energy back, I didn't have time to give in to that shit.
As I reached the deli I noticed a lightskin boy with his hair out. We made short eye contact I aint think anything of it cause that's just normal.
As I went to the chip aisle I grabbed my favorite hot chips and some doritos.
I then went to the drink aisle grabbing 2 bottles of water.
I went and grabbed my moms jolly ranchers.
As I finished grabbing everything I went and got in line.
Behind me stood the same lightskin boy.
I felt he was staring at me so I looked to see if he was.
He wasn't.
He was staring at my ass instead.
"You got a staring problem?" I asked.
"Yo who does this bitch think she talking to?" He said looking around as he pointed to me.
"I'm talking to you, lil nigga" I responded.
"Nahh yo ddot" he called out.
A lightskin boy with curly hair which was in a ponytail came from around the corner.
"Wsg my son" he said walking up to the other lightskin.
"Shordy talking bout some I got a starin problem" He said as he sucked his teeth pointing at me.
"Nahh you was staring at the GAWT?" he said as he hit the lightskin boy on his shoulder.
"Nah on some real shii I was" he said laughing.
"Immature asses." I said under my breath.
"Watch ya mouth you fuckin smooch" I heard the lightskin boy with his hair say.
"Who the fuck-" I tried to say before the cashier cut me off.
"Next." The old grouchy lady said.
I rolled my eyes as I made my way up to the counter.
"18.35" She said as she finished ringing up all my items.
I grabbed my 20 dollar bill and placed it on the counter snatching my bag.
I left the store forgetting about those two boys.
I made it home.
"Here ma" I said as I placed the bags on the counter.
"Thanks lani. Dinner will be ready in a few." She said.
I nodded as I headed upstairs to my room.
I was scrolling on tiktok when I saw the same two lightskin boys.
"It's that ddosama nigga glah glah boom" I heard from the audio.
"Who names their child ddosama, fuckin weirdos" I said as I continued scrolling.
I saw another video of him again. He had fan girls who were obsessed with him. Apparently he made music too.
"Don't care never did" I said as I clicked off tiktok.
"Malaya" I said as I walked into her room.
"Yeah wsp lil lani" she said as she looked up from her phone.
"What you doing im boredd" I said whining.
"Nun finna go to the stu wit jay" She replied.
"Oh can I comeee" I said.
"Aight yea just dress nice" she said.
Dress nice? For what. I said to myself.
I just nodded as I slid back to my room going through my clothing.
I decided to go with something very simple. I didn't want to impress anybody.
"Aight i'm ready" I said as I walked into malaya's room.
"Lani, act like you actually care about people" She stopped me before walking out.
"what are you talking about" I asked.
"Please don't do that nonchalant ass attitude, come off as nice please" She explained.
"Niggas don't do nice over here." I said as I crossed my arms.
"Just act like you nice or some shit kalani I don't got time." She said as she walked to the front door.
"Where y'all going?" My mom questioned.
"We'll be back before dinner ma." Malaya answered.
"I asked where y'all are going." My mom said as she cut on the stove.
"To see my friends." Malaya responded.
My mom just continued doing what she was doing as we walked out.
"Malaya fuck you mean we going to see friends, you said jay." I questioned.
"Just jay and some of the 0y niggas" She responded.
"Fuck is a oy?" I said.
She laughed as we got in her car.
We pulled up to this studio.
I ain't see many cars but when we walked inside I saw many niggas.
It smelt like weed, ass, and weird shit.
"Oh hell nah" I said as I attempted to walk out.
"Nah nah you wanted to come righ?" Malaya said grabbing my arm.
"Kalani don't be on some shy shit, be social you antisocial freak" she said.
I just gave her a mug as I walked up with her.
We walked up to jay and a group of guys.
"Yoo wsg malaya" He said as he hugged her.
"Yoo kalani I ain't seen you in a lil" He said greeting me.
I just nodded my head greeting him.
Malaya nudged my arm.
I rolled my eyes as I went to hug him.
They stood around talking as I scanned around the studio.
I was looking to see who all was here when I saw the same two niggas from earlier today.
My mood worsened and I was ready to go.
Suddenly I would much rather be bored.
I saw another boy sitting down besides them talking to them. He looked younger than the "ddosama" boy.
I just found a seat as I sat down scrolling on my phone.
I was scrolling when I felt a pair of eyes staring at me.
I looked up to see ddosama and his friend looking at me.
I stared directly back because who's scared.
We stared at eachother for like 2 minutes until I saw ddosama walking towards me.
I just rolled my eyes going back on my phone.
"Yo lil smooch" I heard him say.
"Nigga who are you talking to?" I said.
"What other smooch is here" He replied.
"Nigga ya gf now get out my face dumbass" I said as I went back on my phone.
"Ion got a gf stupid" he said.
"Damn I wonder why, ugly ass." I replied, saying the last part under my breath.
"Nigga i'm the face of harlem i'll bag ya mother" He said as he laughed.
"Nigga I don't give a fuck." I said as I continued scrolling on my phone.
"Fuckin smooch" I heard someone yell from a distance.
It was another one of those curly heads, except he was a bit darker.
I just shook my head as I continued minding my business.
Time passed and I was ready to go.
I went and found malaya.
"Let's go we still gotta eat" I said nagging her.
"Ok one second go over there or sum shit" she said pointing at some chairs by the front door.
I went and sat down completely not acknowledging the lightskin boys presence.
"Yo what's ya name" I heard one of 'em say.
"Goodpussy" I said.
"You said stinkpussy wrong" I heard ddosama say.
"I'm not ya mother don't speak on me like that." I replied.
"YOOOO" I heard everyone say, instigating.
"Fuck up nigga" I heard him say as he sat down.
"So you gon tell me ya name?" The other lightskin said.
"For?" I asked.
"Never mind, we can just call you smooch" He said.
"Kalani." I said almost instantly.
"Kalani let's go" I heard malaya say as she motioned me to the car.
"Finally bye dumbasses" I said as I got up and walked out.
We finally made it home. I knew our mom was gonna be mad since we made it later than we were supposed to.
"Malaya smith where the fuck have you been?" I heard her yell as soon as we got inside.
"Ma don't trip we just lost track of time" I said not wanting to argue.
Malaya just headed up to her room.
My mom continued to yell from downstairs as I walked to my room as well.
I decided to get ready for bed and go to sleep.
