I wrote this before t20 WorldCup SemiFinals because I had some horrible gut feeling 😶 Well we can't change whatever that happened but lets enjoy this fictional win!
Also Khushi2334 's 'Something never change' from Our ICT somewhere like tinybit inspired me to wrote this!
Plus the fact that Virat stated in interview that he didn't feel that much emotional after 2011 Win :)

Third Person POV:
All celebrations were done, virat and MS returned to their rooms. Well technically Yuvi was supposed to stay with MS but admist the celebration and chaos he went and slept in Sachin sir's room, which gave young virat chance to ask MS permission to share room with him. Looking at his Cheeku of course MS agreed for the proportion. Once they were sitting on the bed after getting refreshed virat kept his head on MS's shoulder and asked
"Mahi bhai why didnt I feel the same emotions as you guys aaj like during celebrations?"
"Huh? Matlab?"
"Mujhey rona kyun nahi aaya aaj when we won? Mein khush tha bohot khush tha but pata hain mein aap sabse relate nahi kar paya " Saying so virat pouted and continued, "mujhey nahi achi lagi vo feeling mein bhi relate hona chahta tha aap sab se, aapke aasuonmein mujhey bhi shamil hona tha :("
MS chuckled at this young boy's innocence and love. He cant lie and say that he understood how virat felt but he did know that for this young lad his career will give him chance where he'll cry of happiness of winning the world cup.
He softly brushed his fingers through virats hair and said, "Bache aaj tujhey nahi samje vo emotions toh kya hua, aage Jaake jab tu bada hoga and apne desh ke liye badi mehnat aur lagan ke saath apne idol and bhaiyon ke madatse jab worldcup jeetega na tab tujhey humare jazbaat samaj aa jaayenge"
Virat looked at MS with his excited and thrilled doe eyes he asked his bhai, "Aapko lagta hain mein kar sakta hun jo kal aap sabne kiya?"
"Aap sabne? Cheeku meri Jaan tuney bhi sabse important paari kheli thi kal! Hum sabne jo kal kiya vi tu aur tere generation ki team bhi karegi. Mujhey pura bharosa hain mere cheeku par aur iss desh ke talent par" MS reassured his fav kid, which recieved heartwarming smile from Virat. He patted virat's head softly.
"Chal now sleep we'll have to do so much kal" Ms reminded virat, and lied on the bed
He got confused when virat kept looking at him in awe, he smile and asked "Kya hua bachey? Kuch aur bolna hain?"
Virat nodded yes excitedly and said "Bhai aap best ho aap Bohot BOHOT cool ho! Meine kabhi aapko bola hain how much i admire you?" MS felt overwhelmed, receiving all the praises throughout the evening was on one side and this kid telling him something was on other he played along saying no to which he got whiny Cheeku's response.
"BHAIII!!! acha thike abhi bolta hun aap bohot mast ho! Aap jaisa koi nai! Mein puri zindagi aapko protect karke rakhunga! Aap bohot precious ho! Aap-"
"acha acha bas kar" MS interrupted shyly to which Virat giggled
"Par sach mein bhai, mujhey pata hain hum utne close nahi hain but aap mujhpe rely kar sakte ho humesha! And na aaj jaise aapne Sach pa ko ye worldcup gift kiya na? Vaise mein aapko karunga! I promise! Mein aapko apney kandhopein bithake pure stadium mein ghumaunga aur na bas aapke paas sabke medals honge mein apney peers and juniors sabko aapko dene lagvaunga! I promise ek din pura desh bolega Virat Kohli ney MS dhoni ko worldcuo se navaza!"
Virat said all these words with sheer determination, which made MS so emotional he blinked his eyes and after few moments of gathering himself he said, "Yahi confidence chahiye Bache bas mere liye nahi-"
"Desh ke liye i know i know, but aap bhi issi desh mein ho and mein aapko gift karu ya desh ko ek hi baat hain aapse badhakar koi iss desh se Pyaar nahi karta. Ofcourse army ko chhodkar BUT again unko koi problem nahi hogi mere giftse" MS shook his head knowing once virat kohli determines something he does it.
It's good in a way too cause he knew India will win 3rd and more worldcups as long as his Cheeku is in the team. Knowing he made his bhai speechless virat smiled to himself and lied on the bed wishing dhoni goodnight slowly drifting off to sleep.
2022
11 years, he promised his bhai 11 years ago that he'll win a WorldCup for him. Its been 15 years since they won t20 worldcup. They lost chances for all these years, bhai left his captaincy, bhai left cricket, virat lost his captaincy, and yet no icc trophy for virat to gift his mahi bhai. Life gave him one chance again. After making him feel he'll have to leave cricket for good for past 2 years, god has graced him with a chance to win this tournament for his bhai. Its nothing it's literally nothing compared to what MS deserves and yet it's everything.
Virat's POV:
I desperately want to call Mahi bhai, I wanna invite him in Australia. We won semis can you believe it? I can't, after ages literally AGES we won semifinal that too in worldcuo tournament, maybe everyone was right I was the problem- 'okay NO don't go there virat everyone will beat you' my subconscious reminded me.
I want him here, i NEED him here but i can't bring myself to be confident, I'm so anxious and so scared all I know is it's either this win or retirement from t20. Nush is gonna be here with Vami, so only person I need and I can't bring myself to invite is bhai. What if we lose? Can I look into his eyes again? No. I'm not that strong not yet.
Third person pov:
At the end virat didn't call his mahi bhai he kept practicing and practicing. At one point rohit dragged him out of nets cause in his madness he could get injured and team DEFINITELY can't afford that. Next day when dragging didn't work he made SKY, Rahul and Siraj talk him out of nets.
"Bachey hain sabke sab ek ekko marunga mein, and iss cheeku ke bacheki toh mein! mahi and yuvi bhai ko aane do bas " Rohit said this frustratedly everyday.
Finally the day arrived, Ind VS Eng T20 WorldCup 2022 Final at MCG:
Entire stadium was filled with spectators waiting for history to be created. Majority of them were Indians, can you blame them? This is golden chance after a decade! No one's gonna miss that!
Indian team was ready, they were all pumped up, rohit carefully instructed them "Like always, Be fully alert, don't panic but be alert. I need your entire focus on the game. Forget there's any world outside that ground for next few hours. Dont treat this matcg too special and at same time don't goof around especially while feilding"
Once he was done with briefing, it was vice captain's turn but Rahul said virat will speak on his behalf, to which Virat was not surprised yet he shook his head and started, "I donno what would be the results but as i say it always don't give up till its last ball, don't give up till match ends. We have played enough to know single ball can change the game. Don't lose hopes no matter what conditions we face. Give your best and leave the rest okay? We got this! Jai hind"
They heard chorus of "Jai hind"
Rohit won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Before entering the ground Virat closed his eyes thought of his wife, his 1 year old daughter, his ma- papa, family and reaction his Mahi bhai had when he promised him a world cup 11 years ago. All of their faces were enough for virat to get strength and throw himself in the game.
Entire team looked so fiercely focused and calm it was enough to rattle British men and their confidence a bit. With immaculate fielding and beautiful swings India managed to restrict English men to 147/5. Not too huge target yet huge enough with kind of ballers England had.
After 20 overs boys returned back to pavilion and calmed their nerves. None of them spoke much or looked anywhere other than required cause if they did they would've seen their seniors sitting in vip lounge.
MS and Yuvi both wanted to meet kids but looking at their focus MS knew better than to disturb them with their presence. Especially his Cheeku and shaana (ro) for Yuvi he knew they'll be under pressure once they realise they're present. To calm over excited Yuvi MS told him, "We'll meet them if the wicket falls let ro and cheeku go on feild and then lets go in the dressing room."
After half an hour Rohit and Rahul went on the ground all padded up determined to give their teams good start. They did manage to score 20 in 3 overs but Rahul got out and thats when Virat stepped in. Entire time watching them play Virat solely focused on the statergy rival captain was trying to make for Indian team. He kept focus on the feild and tv monitor to get idea of the game. He was completely engrossed in the game. It was as if his body was working on auto pilot. 20 runs in 3 overs was not too bad or too good score if you're planning to chase so when SKY tapped his back to tell him wicket's gone he just smiled, nodded and went on the ground.
From non striker end Rohit felt his anxiety calm down the second he looked into virat's eyes. He knew they still had chance in this game cause his brother has lost himself in the game again which means more runs in less balls. And that's exactly what happened soon by 10th over score reached 90 with rohit reaching his half century next over was too heavy for England too as the score went up to 105 both rohirat completed their half centuries by now. None of them really had time to care enough.
Unfortunately Rohiy lost his wicket in mid 12th over letting SKY to come in and fill his shoes. Virat smiled from non stricker end went ahead and said "Bhau aag laga de aaj bhi"
SKY gave his very subtle we got this nod. Both of them were on fire. Despite of one dot over, by 15th over they took score to 129/2. Now India needed 18 runs in 5 overs seemed easy task till SKY got out and then Pandya came in not wanting to risk any more wicket, for next over pandya and virat played safely making score 17 in 24 balls. Soon hardik lost his patience and hit six making the score 11 in 23 balls, thinking he can do it again he tried hitting ball for another 6 only to get out.
They had enough balls in their hands but till next over or till they don't rotate strike virat knew it's still not over, it's not that he didn't trust his team because he did but sometimes pressure can force you ti make mistakes and every mistake costs huge in these matches, virat has learnt this in bad way.
Next up was Rishabh Pant he just gave that kid a smile and reassured him to play calmly not bothering to give any tips cause they knew telling their rishu anything won't help, and its better if he plays his own game he'll be more confident that way. To his surprise his Rishu played calmly didn't hit any risky shots just one 4 at end of the over taking score down to 7 in 12 balls. Next over was filled with dot balls except of one which allowed rishabh and virat to rotate the strike and take two run, turning score to 5 in 6 balls.
Virat could see Rishabh was getting worked up so he walked up to him while taking the strike for last over and said "Aaramse rishu, bache frustrate nahi hona hain okay? Agar strike rotate karne mile toh karte hain we got this bas Dhyaan rakhiyo mere calls pein and run as fast as you can when I call you, okay?"
Rishabh nodded understanding what his virat bhaiya wanted him to do.
First ball of the over was a wide letting India go down to 4 in 6 balls. For next ball virat hit the ball and called for rishu they ran as fastest they could've and took 2 runs, rishabh almost getting out but on reviewing it was not out. Score went down to 2 runs in 5 balls. Entire country was on their toes. Entire team was on verge of celebrations.
For virat world faded away, just as roh says always, it just vanished all he saw was that ball was on its way to hit his bat and he had to throw that ball out of the boundary or at least long enough for them to take 2 runs and thats what he did he positioned himself and played a powerful coverdrive which took ball straightup to the boundary making India score a 4. Entire stadium erupted in screams and yells of happiness.
Virat's POV:
Once I hit the ball i called rishu for a run not taking risk by the time i reached non stricter end i head the celebrations confused why are they shouting we still have 1 run to go I looked at the ball to find that it reached the boundary it was 4. I just stood their frozen, I heard Rishu scream "HELL YEAHHHHH" and run to me.
He hugged me tightly getting me out of my daze and screamed in my ears "BHAIYA YOU DID IT I LOVE HOW I WITNESSED THIS TOO JUST LIKE YOUR 71ST CENTURY FROM NONSTRICKER'S END!!! YOU'RE SO COOL BHAIYA YOURE SO COOL I LOVE YOU!!!!"
I just hugged him tight notknowing how to react i couldn't even scream i just had so many emotions in me. Soon enough rishu spared me and I saw rohit running to me with teary eyes and he hugged me tight "VEE MERI JAAN MER SHAAN TERE BINAH KUCH NAHI KUCH BHI NAHI" he said to me
All i could respond was "Roh we did it? We won?"
He chuckled still hugging me and said "Yes buddhu we did!!! You scored 83 again!mahi bhai and I couldn't stop talking about you andar! Kya cheez hain re tu! Kaha se laya hain tujhey kitna lajawab khela hain! Man toh karta hain tujhey sarpein uthake naachu!!!"
I giggled at him and hugged him tighter than I ever had, we never showed our bromance on feild but aaj I just wanna cry on his shoulder and thats what i did I cried and I could feel him cry too. We could feel humari bandar sena on top of us soon we opened our arms and formed hurdle jumping and celebrating in a circle after few screams we left the circle and hugged each other.
After few moments while shaking hands with English men and doing those formalities i realised what roh said 'wait a minute mahi bhai? What did he mean?' I asked yuzi "Mahi bhai ka call aya tha?"
He looked at me and laughed saying "Aaj ke liye I won't tease you aapki halat is very emotional so i understand, cheeku bhaiya ek baat batao agar Insaan khudh maujoot ho yaha toh vo call kyun karenge?"
I looked at him as if he grew 2 horns maybe he did cause what in the world is he saying!
I ran in the dressing room keeping my bat and helmet inside and freshen up. I looked everywhere in the dressing room trying to see mahi bhai and of course he's not here
'Iss yuzi ko toh I'm gonna kill him one day'.
I ran to vip room where nush and vami were watching match from knowing very well how long next celebrations are gonna go on for! When I opened the door Anu looked so proud she had tears i went and hugged her tight she started crying and so did I.
"We did it nush! We did it! 11 years I waited for 11 years and now I feel those emotions allthose guys felt when we won 2011 wc i feel all of it! Mahi bhai trusted me anu he trusted us he must be proud na? Are you proud? This is my first icc trophy after our marriage and after vami are you two proud?" I rambled in rush cause i know soon i have ti go back on ground.
My baby understanding my urgency replied "I'm SUPER DUPER AND USSE BHI UPAR vala proud of you love!!! I can't even explain how proud i am of you! You deserve this! All of you deserve thsi! Vami is super proud of her superhero too!!! You made entire nation so happy you don't understand what beauty you are! Hats off youre best! And for mahi bhai why dont you go back in dressing room and ask him for yourself!"
Looking at her questioningly i kissed her forehead first, she said she'll be here with vami and wife squad and pushed me towards the exit saying "Trust me just trust me!! And gooooo" Shes so adorable i love her!
I entered the dressing room again trying find something that could relate to mahi bhai when I felt someone tap me ans say "Are you looking for me or someone else mister?"

I turned quickly around, quicker than speed of light! I just looked at him and touched his forehead "HES real... he's real... ITS MAHI BHAI HES REAL" I said stepping back to which bhai laughed
"Yes bacha I'm real and I'm here in front of you I was here in Australia the whole time for past week how can i leave my kiddo alone?"
I just ran and jumped on him, him being used to my antics just caught me. I could feel him smile I can't believe he's here he's here means i can complete my promise! Omg my promise MY PROMISE!
I quickly jumped down from.him and sid "Bhai lets go out!!!"
"Nahi nahi ruk uske Pehle ek cheez!!" He said and gave me softest and gentlest forehead kiss in mahi-cheeku history and hugged me tight again.
"I'm SO Proud of you mere sher! I can't even say it enough! I already suck with words and tuney mujhey aur speechless kiya hain!" Hearing his words i teared up and let myself breakdown in happiness in his arms.
He is my biggest support, what he means to me can't be explained in words all I know is he is everything for me. After few moments our manager called me on feild, we broke the hug and I said, "I feel all those emotions bhai, tears i wanted to relate to, I feel them today. Thank you for coming here bhai thank-you!"
MSD' POV:
I gave cheeku one tapli for saying thank you I can't believe mera bacha itna bada hua hain aaj! Looking at him literally makes me feel as if im his parent! He gave me sheepish smile for my tapli soon we heard loud "CHEEKU MERE RABBIT"
Yeah thats yuvi mera bestfriend and mera part-time cheeku stealer full time toh ek hain jo aaj aaya nahi hain thankfully!
Yuvi and cheeku's meet was cut short by mangers yell who asked virat to come back again, not risking getting team's manager mad at him cheeku said "Chalo bhai bahar chalte hain"
I let him and yuvi go out, I have no intentions of going out. Looking at me not walking cheeku got cute frown on his forehead and he said (whined) "Mahi bhaiiiiiii chalo na!!!"
I shook my head no saying "Nahi Bache tu ja mein yahi thik hun!"
Thats when we heard another "VIRAT COME ON" he stomped out of the room making ms and yuvi giggle at this antics.
I pushed yuvi knowing he will otherwise annoy me I sat on the bench and watched cheeku ask someone "Kya hua" Donno what they answered but cheeku told the announcer something and then went to talk with rohit i could sense him doing something.
Rohirat were again bickering but for once Yuvi came and freed others and me from the trouble! And then rohit was called to talk about the win, he expressed how happy he is and how he dedicates this win to his Yuvi pa and how glad he is that yuvi is here! I smiled hearing all praises yuvi's shaana had for him, their bond is very precious it keeps on growing and becoming beautiful.
Soon cheeku came back in the room and said "Chalo bhai" .
I just looked at him with stern face and he said "What? Aapko laga aap na bologe and mein maan jaunga? Hahahahha jokes ab chalo utho"
I sighed and said "Cheeku Bache baat samaj, logoko lagega mein jaan bujh kar aaya hun, mein yahi hun na kya farak padta hain, tu ja trophy le and andar aake jo bhi bolna ya karna hain vo karde"
Cheeku gave me very fake smile "Very smart but NO will do. Shayad you forgot i said mein aapko apney kandhopein bithake pura ground ghumaunga" .
My eyes widened 'IS he gone mad!!!!' I just replied, "NO. Tu aisa Kuch nahi karega!!!"
That's when cheeku played his masterstroke "Aapney mujhey aapko farewell match tak dene nahi di kamse kam itna karne do na bhai :(" he said all this with puppy face that he knows i can't reject i kept staring at him in disbelief.
"Cheeku samajne ki koshish kar team ko pasand nahi aayega"
I tried to which this dramebaaz just raised his eyebrows and then out of no where rohit said "Acha ye kon bola? Konse team ki baat chalu hain? Kyunki baharvali indian team mein sab ko aap chahiye ho"
I just looked at them trying to make them understand but they kept giving me puppy eyes, they can't delay things too much or they'll get in some controversy for this so i just gave in. Excitedly Rohit ran out for god knows what and Virat dragged me out on the feild.
As soon me and cheeku stepped out I heard screams go wilder than before there were chants of 'Dhoni and Mahirat' i just looked at Virat who was smiling proudly to me he took me to stand in front of the team with Yuvi and then went to give his speech for winning man of the match and player of the series. I looked at Yuvi who was already in tears he gave me a smile and heavily breathed.
Third Person POV:
Presentator loved the bond mahirat had, already and looking at the scene today he couldn't stop himself so he did ask openly to virat to tell the world exact same things he told him before asking them to wait.
Virat smiled and said "I just told you truth, i told you to wait for the person I promised to gift a world cup to. Ms- wait no aaj no formalities, for me mahi bhai is someone I can never express enough in words what he means to me. 11 years ago I promised him to win and gift him a world cup like he gifted our idol. Unfortunately i was unable to win it for all the years he was in the team. Honestly i was unsure what will happen today, i had confidence in my team and my ability but no one's here to lose right? So despite of wanting to call him here i couldn't tho I'm glad Rohit did and that he's here he's mahi bhai after all he knows us very well. That's why he's best. This is just t20 worldcup it's a start but i dedicate this to him. We have yuvi bhaiya with us too I didn't promise him anything but i remember after we got to know about his disease HE told me something along the lines that 'Cheeku zindagi mein tu kahi bhi jaa, tere yuvi pa tere saath hain and mera vishwas tere saath hain' which kept me going thorough whole journey of his treatment till he was clear. Honestly i miss sonu bhai too I wish he was here, these three deserved us winning worldcup back in 2019 we unfortunately didnt and they left cricket, this world cup for me is just for my seniors who gave their everythijg for this sport. I know talking a lot I'm sorry, I'll just quickly like to add that I'm proud of this team of all my brothers here and I consider myself quiet lucky that got brothers and team like them. It's all for them and because of them. Also my Vami and all of our kids! LOOK BABIES WE WON!!! "
Virat's POV:
I could see everyone having tears in their eyes none of us even tried to hide. They gave me the trophy, cheque and then gave all of us the medals. As promised first thing i did was to give my medal to mahi bhai and roh gave his to yuvi bhai. Entire team followed slowly one by one giving their medals to one they're closest to. Once we were done I looked at Ash who understood my gesture and helped me lift mahi bhai on shoulders.
I could hear mahi bhai saying "CHEEKU, ASH KYA KARRE HO! NAHI! YE BOHOT BADA GROUND HAIN UTAARO MUJHEY!!!"
Both of us denied and I just said "Mujhey mere bhai ke liye kam se kam itna karne do mahi bhai please aaj mat rokna" I walked around the feild with mahi bhai on my shoulder.
In 2011 when I took sach pa on my shoulder I did feel emotional and I did feel overwhelmed but due to probably lack of the bond and time we spent with each other, what i feel today is completely different than that day. Behind me I know Roh and Buvi were walking with Yuvi pa on their shoulders. This feeling right here, I won't ever forget it ever. I looked around and saw the crowd crying and screaming, the happiness everyone felt right here, this is what we carve for and we'll let them feel this happiness again, next year we'll win again!
MSD' POV:
Sitting on their shoulders I just looked at cheeku and Ash 'What did I do to deserve so much love?' And then I looked at my cheeku, this boy has so much respect and love for me that he never hesitates to express, how can I ever deserve him!
Looking up at crowd made me more emotional it made me think of the time Cheeku asked me why didnt I let my fans give me everything they think i deserve. For first time or you can say second time world witnessed Mahendra Singh Dhoni getting emotional. I couldn't and I didn't stop my tears.
After giving myself some time to calm down I kept eye on when this round is gonna end I better stop these two here or i know cheeku's brain will find something new. That's when I realised we're nearing the end of this walk and I told Ash and cheeku "Chalo ho gaya bas karo ab"
Cheeku looked up and tried to give me puppy eyes to which I just looked at him challengingly knowing well not to push me too much he just scrunched his nose and they let me down. I hugged Ash and patted his back telling him how well he did. While I was talking with Ash I saw cheeku rush to yuvi and roh who were behind us and asked bhuvi to let him take the chance we could hear rohit bickering
"Mahi bhai ko kyun utara ghadey mujhey bhi unhe uthana tha na ab vo nahi manage" I shook my head cause they'll never change.
I kept talking with kids when I saw roh coming towards me with sheepish smile after keeping yuvi down I just said "Roh nahi bilkul nahi"
Cheeku said something in Roh's ears to which for first time he got happy and agreed. After they were all done with their antics I went towards my cheeku and hugged him tight. I could feel.him getting surprised I'm never one who initiates things on feild but not today. He hugged me back and after few moments we felt everyone jump on us.
I broke the hug when they announced winning team captain to come and collect the trophy. Rohit went ahead and smiled taking trophy and then took the mic, "I would like to request Mahi bhai and Yuvi pa to come here on this stage"
I looked at yuvi who just laughed and took me with him on stage.
Soon Rohit was joined by entire team and they gave us the trophy. I don't think both of us can ever forget this moment in our lives! We'll take this our graves! I was hesitant and I could feel yuvi hesitant too but then i saw sparkle in the eyes of all of them,and the happiness they had in their eyes, maybe it is worth it after all. Once I got my hand ahead Yuvi joined me and we took the trophy lifting it as a sign of victory.
Soon the champions board was set everything was set for the celebrations on feild. After the photographs I saw Rahul wrapping Virat in tricolour I smiled knowing exactly what to do, once juniors were done with their pampering their virat bhaiya, Virat laughed and undid the knot they made and Rahul took flag with himself as Virat stood there smiling at our team.
Just imagine ulta! Like MS is hugging Virat from back :)
I took the flag from Rahul smiling at him slowly went towards him from behind and hugged him, like he hugged me 11 years ago. Knowing exactly what I'm doing virat looked at me with teary and shiny eyes and snuggled more into my arms. This feels safe. This feels like home.
