At 4pm Hunk turned up with the wedding cake and place it on the table and everyone stared at it.
The cake was three layers, with a smooth as glass, black mirror glaze over the top. Down one side was the milky way, and winding their way around the cakes to the top was a red and blue stripe. The stripes met at the top where a purple sugar heart topped the cake.
Hunk bit his lip, and asked, 'Do you not like it?'
'Buddy, it's...amazing,' said Lance, tears stinging his eyes. 'You never cease to amaze me with your talents.'
'It's perfect,' breathed Keith. 'Oh, Hunk...I...' He looked up at the big man, unable to put into words how he felt about the cake.
Hunk blushed. 'There are two chocolate cakes and one vanilla. I thought since not everyone likes traditional wedding cake, that would be the way to go.'
'I've never seen anything like it,' said Maria. 'We must make sure we get the photographer to take photos.' She quickly pulled out her phone and took some herself from every angle.
Lance hugged his friend. 'Thank you so much.'
'Any time, buddy.' Hunk returned the hug then left again to get ready for later with Pidge.
There was only 3 hours left before the wedding was to begin and the food preparation was in full swing. Maria and Amaya got on so well it was as if they had been friends all their lives and this made Keith happy.
With two hours left, Lance and Keith were dragged upstairs by Shiro and Adam.
'Right you two, shower,' Shiro ordered.
The two boys grinned and were about to leave when Shiro grabbed Keith's arm. 'On second thought, Lance you go shower first. The last thing we need if for you two to have sex in there for the next half an hour.'
Shiro laughed at the death glare Keith shot him. Adam smirked and shook his head while pushing the pouting Lance towards the bathroom.
When Keith came out of the bathroom, he found the bedroom door closed, and Shiro guided him into the kids room where Keith's clothes were laid out, and closed the door.
'I can get dressed by myself,' Keith huffed.
'I know.' He said it softly and looked at Keith with a mixture of sadness and joy in his eyes. 'This is the last time I get to look after you before you start your own life with someone.'
'You're my dad, you'll always be there to look after me. Won't you?' There was fear in that question. A fear that Shiro would not walk away and he would never see him again.
Shiro hugged him. 'I will always be here when you need me.' He could feel Keith shaking in his arms. 'You're my son, and I love you, and there is nothing in this universe, any universe, that would keep me away from you.' He stepped back and held Keith at arms length. 'But today you are getting married. You have Lance to look after you, and he will always be the one you turn to first when something goes wrong, and that's how it should be.'
Shiro turned away for a moment. When he turned back he held a beer out to Keith.
'Here is to the first day of the rest of your life,' said Shiro. 'I have no doubt it will be full of happiness.
They heard people starting to arrive and the land around the house looked like a strange parking lot for ships. The smell of food filled the house, and laughter drifted up through the partially open window. There was excitement in the air, and as the sun started to set, it became more intense.
Ten minutes before they were ready to start, Shiro and Adam hurried downstairs to make sure everyone was out of the house and seated.
Keith and Lance stood at the top of the stairs.
Lance stared at the gorgeous man beside him. His heart thumped in his chest with excitement. 'I never thought this would ever happen. We spent so much time antagonizing each other that I thought you really did hate me.'
Keith shook his head. 'I fell for you the moment I saw you. I didn't want to because I never thought we would work together. We're so different, but maybe that's why it does work. I don't know.'
Lance slipped his hand behind Keith's neck and pulled him in for a kiss. It was meant to be quick, but it turned heated fast.
'There's time for that later,' Shrio said from the bottom of the stairs.
They jumped apart and glared at Shiro.
'Get down here,' Shiro ordered and they hurried down the stairs. 'Get through three hours without ripping each other's clothes off and you can go to the hotel.'
'Three hours, right, we can do that,' Lance said. He didn't sound convincing in the least, and Keith raised an eyebrow at him.
'Aha,' said Keith. 'Let see how that works out shall we.'
Shiro pinched the bridge of his nose. 'At least get through dinner.'
When Shiro hurried back outside to his spot, Lance was bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet in excitement.
When Keith took his hand he settled down and they walked down to where the celebrant, Felicity Dean, stood. She smiled warmly at them, but Lance noticed her gaze lingered on Keith a bit too long for his liking.
Jaya stood next to Shiro holding a pillow with the rings on it, looking so proud and cute in his suit he seemed about to burst.
On the other side, Adam held Molly in his arms as she watched in quiet interest what was happening.
Felicity kept the ceremony simple as requested, knowing both men would never want anything long and drawn out. Sniffles could be heard from the guests as the vows and rings were exchanged.
What wasn't expected was the huge roar that went up from the guests when they kissed. They were on their feet clapping and whistling, and Keith and Lance couldn't help but grin and they pulled apart. They didn't want a traditional wedding, and that was what their friends gave them. Even King Alfor got carried away with the others.
Keith allowed himself to be pulled into hugs and kissed on the cheek without panicking, but when it was done, he found comfort in Lance's arms.
The photographer pulled them aside with Shiro, Adam Jaya, Molly, Jorge and Maria to take more formal photos under the tree lit with fairy lights. Once they were done, everyone was called for dinner. They had lay it out as a buffet and everyone talked and laughed with each other as they lined up and filled their plates.
When Shiro and Adam stood and attracted everyone's attention, Keith nervously eyed the wad of paper in Shiro's hand.
'When Keith and Lance called us and asked if we would stand up and say a few words here today,' Shiro began, 'we were excited by the opportunity. So excited in fact that we wrote a lot of words.' He held up the wad of paper, which received a chuckle from the guests. 'We think we'll leave them to read through this in their own time, and we'll just summarize what's in there.'
Adam smiled. 'The summary is, we love you, both of you. It's as simple as that.'
'In the last two years, the two of you have grown into wonderful young men,' said Shiro. 'In all honesty, there were times I thought you were going to blast each other out an airlock.' The others laughed. 'So to find out the two of you were together came as one hell of a shock.'
'You have been through a myriad of emotions in the short time you've been together,' said Adam. 'But in the end it has made you stronger, and regardless of what the future holds, you will be able to face it together.'
Shiro and Adam reached for their champagne glasses and everyone else followed suit.
'To Keith and Lance,' they both said, holding up their glasses.
'To Keith and Lance,' everyone said.
Once dinner was finished, Keith and Lance moved between the guests, talking and laughing, until it was time to cut the cake.
It wasn't long after that, Shiro and Adam lost track of Keith and Lance.
'I guess we should be thankful they hung around as long as they did,' Shiro said.
'If my memory serves me correctly,' said Amaya, 'you and Adam disappeared twice before the cake was even cut.' Shiro flushed bright red. 'It's their day, let them be.'
'I know it is,' muttered Shiro. 'I will always worry about Keith, you know that. He may be the Sacred Altean, and part Galran, but he will always be that small, scared boy we first met in my heart.'
Amaya reached out and gave his hand a squeeze. 'Yes, he will.'
The party went into the evening, long after Keith and Lance left for their honeymoon.
Over the next three days, everyone was kept up to date with the two young men as Lance posted pictures in a group chat for everyone to see. They took advantage of everything the hotel had to offer during the day, and made love most of the night.
By the time they returned home, they were exhausted and spent the next two days catching up on their sleep.
