As my chest heaved up and down trying sustain the bit of self-control I had left. My breathe staggered with each time I inhaled, I wasn't ready to come to terms with the reality I was being obligated to face.
I refused.
The turning point of everything was almost invisible, I was blinded. Or maybe, I'd been looking with my eyes wide open, naive to what was in front of me.
And now I'm here.
I quickly wiped away the tears welled up in my eyes, I refused to let fall. I heard my name be called. I rose from my sit, patting down the small bits of lint that were on the surface of my black silk dress.
I walked myself up to the podium, a mess I'm sure anyone with eyes could see. But none the less pulled myself together the best of my ability.
Straighten my voice, I held my mouth to the microphone.
" For those who may not know me, I'm Samirah...."
