The Cake

Chapter 8: Presents, good and bad.

"But seriously Laina, why did you dig through your own puke?"
I giggle. I have a plan.
"Oh I don't know. Just a treasure hunt. But you are my treasure." I get down on one knee and hold out the ring. Jeremy tries his hardest to stifle a laugh.
"Will you marry me?"
"Yes, but please don't stuff that in our wedding cake."
I laugh.
He gives me a big hug and takes the ring.

After a while, we decide to call my parents, to tell them the great news. My parents arrive with their eyes all puffy.
"Jeremy, we-we can't come over anymore. you remind us too much of.."
Mom goes distant.
I walk out of the house to meet them.
"Me?"
Mom bursts into tears and dad glares at Jeremy.
"What kind of joke is this?!"
"This isn't a joke! This is Laina."
"No, your just a clingy boyfriend that got someone that looks a lot like her so you can be all Mandy pandy!!!!!" My dad starts to yell.
"Dad, it's me, Laina!" My eyes tear up.
"No your not, Laina is-...-dead!"
"If you can't believe I'm Laina,-" then I lose it. I run.
I run off the porch, I run in the woods I run away. My eyes are too blurry to see details but I can see things and I have the ability to dodge.
I run across a street, across a meadow, I don't stop running.

When I do stop, I'm in the middle of an unknown place. I'm in the woods. I'm not going back. Never.

JEREMY'S POV
And, she ran away. Great.
"WHAT WAS THAT?! " I yell to her dad
"I FINALLY HAD MY TRUE LOVE BACK, BUT YOU CANT BELIEVE ITS HER!" I scream.
I stomp up the stairs and slam the door when I reach inside. I have no idea what her father is thinking, but I never want to know. Never.
