Your best friend Ella's father had been away on business for a couple weeks, and you've recently been appointed as a servant for her stepmother.
Seeing as you were a friend of her stepdaughter's, she didn't feel the need to pay you a single penny.
It hasn't been too taxing on you. She treated you a little better than she treated Ella, but not by much. You were mostly in charge of cooking dinner and being Tremaine's personal dresser.
You don't know why, but you've found yourself becoming attracted to the older woman, although she's married and your best friend's guardian. But today...? One of those things would change.

Ella had just gotten the news that her father had died whilst on his trip. You were right by her side as Ella's stepsisters worried about their items that her father had promised them. Lady Tremaine was the next to speak.
"Don't you see? None of that matters. We're ruined. How will we live?"
You couldn't help but watch as she sulked to her room as her daughters retreated back to theirs. You knew you should stay with Ella, but your heart was pulling you in another direction.
"Ella... would you like some time alone?" you asked, hoping she would agree.
To your surprise, she nodded slightly, not breaking eye contact with the floor. You didn't give it a second thought as you made your way down the hall to Lady Tremaine's room. You take in a slow breath before gently opening the door. Your heart broke as you saw her sitting on the edge of her bed with her head in her hands.
She hadn't even heard you come in. You walk over and put a comforting hand on her shoulder, making her flinch a little before she noticed it was you. She looks into your eyes, tears shining in her own. No words are exchanged as you kneel down to take off her heels. Once finished, you take a seat next to her on the bed and put your hand back on her shoulder.
"Madame... if there's anything I could do."
"Madonna." she says, barely above a whisper.
"What-?"
"Madonna. That's my name. You may call me that now, if you'd like."
You give her shoulder a gentle squeeze. "Okay then, Madonna."
She looks into your eyes again, genuinely needing to talk to someone.
"Why does this always happen to me...? I mean, first the father of my daughters, and now another one. Maybe I'm just destined to be alone."
You reach over and wipe her tears away gently. "Don't say that. There's someone out there for you. I know it."
You keep your hand on your cheek as you decide to be brave and lean in closer. She ends up doing the same, her lips meeting yours in a tender kiss. She takes you in her arms and holds you closer, finally finding some comfort.
"You know, Y/n...?" she says. "You're more than just a servant girl."
