Chapter 22
Amelia's POV
After all of my endless searching, I finally found Michael and Emily. Michael appears to be fine, but Emily is once again unconscious. Trying to momentarily ignore the raging inferno that appears to be surrounding the three of us, I check Emily's body to see what wounds she has. She has several bruises on her legs and dried up blood near her heart.
"Michael, what the hell happened this time? Every time I get separated from you guys, Emily ends up injured, unconscious, or both. You need to keep a better eye on your girlfriend because based on your recent actions, you're a pretty shitty boyfriend to her." Tears glisten Michael's eyes. "I know I'm a piece of shit Amelia. I've spent the past week lying awake at night thinking that I should be the one badly injured instead of Emily. She has nothing to deserve any of this. Each day that goes by, she gets worse and worse. Knowing that I'm partially the cause of it fucking kills me. Now Amelia you could stand here and continue to tell me what I already know, or you could actually help Emily."
I avoid eye contact with Michael as I lift Emily onto a nearby gourney and push her towards safety. Michael follows me as in eerie silence washes over us.
