Tommy POV
The plan went into action the next day. Tommy was forced to stay inside, but that didn't stop him from hearing whispers from his family. In every town across the kingdom, his name was spoken. Whether it was in anger or hope, it was a start.
From what Wilbur told him, some people jumped to the hopeful side immediately. Those were the people who needed something to believe in. Others, were more difficult. They were too used to being tricked. Some people were too defensive to even entertain the idea. With their hate for the royals being far too strong to even attempt to get through to them.
Tommy remained patient, using most of his time to train with Techno. Much to his surprise, he actually seemed to get better. Of course, he could never reach the heights of the great Technoblade. But he wasn't as worried with a sword at his belt.
The family prepared all they could, mapping out their ways into the castle and the supplies it required. But it came to the point where there was nothing more they could then hope.
One day Tommy stood, watching the moon in the hopes that the coming dawns would bring a hopeful future.
Only hours later, he found himself outside of the castle's gates. The outlaws had divided in through the towns, trying to find the best ways in. But Tommy's family stuck by his side.
The prince took a more direct approach, not even looking for a secret entrance. If he was going to be the king, he needed to act like it. He needed to be strong. Tommy lead the way to the front gate, pausing when he was only a few steps away from it.
He squinted, disbelief falling over him. Was that- "Ranboo?"
The young guard turned at the name, gasping, "Prince Thomas?"
The other guard ran to his side, another familiar face. "Fundy!"
Tommy walked towards them, a newfound excitement in his step. Could it really be them? His family followed, more unsure than anything. But Tommy knew this people well.
"What are you doing here?" Ranboo asked, a smile growing on his face. It was like his entire face had lit up at the sight of him.
"You could be killed if you're found here." Fundy hissed, looking over his shoulder.
Tommy chuckled, "Actually we could use your help."
"Tommy-" Wilbur began, exchanging looks with Techno and Phil.
"I trust them." Tommy reassured the older. Turning back to his old friends, he laughed at their wide eyes.
"Outlaws-" Fundy began.
"Prince Thomas, why are you-"
"They're my family." Tommy explained, grinning back towards them. "They took me in when I had no where to go."
Ranboo looked at them, then back at Tommy. "I-I can't believe your actually here. When you were banished I thought... I thought you were dead."
The blonde shook his head, "You can't kill me that easily."
"I'm glad."
"Ranboo, these people are outlaws!" Fundy exclaimed, his eyes wide.
"But the prince trusts them." Ranboo pointed out. "And that's enough for me." He turned back to Tommy, "How can we help you?"
"We need an eye on the inside."
Ranboo snorted, "I think you'll find that most of the eyes you'll find on the inside are eager to help you. I would even say, you could be invisible if you wanted to be."
Tommy raised an eyebrow. Could it really be true? "That doesn't make any-"
"Everyone heard of the whispers in town." Ranboo continued, "They put all their hope in you."
"It worked." Techno breathed.
Ranboo opened the gate quietly, searching the surrounding area before looking back at Tommy. "I can only wish you luck."
Fundy grabbed Ranboo's shoulder, looking him dead in the eye. "You can't be serious! If we get caught we could-"
"I want change Fundy. I'm willing to risk a million lifetimes if it means that the sufferings in this kingdom end."
Fundy slowly released his grip, backing off.
"Thank you." Tommy smiled, carefully sliding through the door. The rest of his family followed, each murmuring their thanks. The gate sealed behind them, leaving Tommy to the demons of his home.
Tommy shook his head of any doubts, immediately turning down a corridor. He knew this place like the back of his hand, as much as he hated it. They passed door after door in silence, until Tommy's footsteps slowed.
He paused, his eyes tracing to a window. It showed the view of the gardens, the queen's favorite place in the castle. Stepping forward, he leaned his head against the cold glass. He allowed one tear to slip. "Only for you mother." he whispered, before stepping back once more.
He avoided his brothers' sympathetic looks. He needed to focus on the future. Taking a deep breath, he tried to step forward. But Phil stopped him.
"She would be proud of you." he smiled, placing a hand on the boy's shoulder. That was all it took for the walls to come crashing down. Tears poured out his eyes as he wrapped his arms around Phil. The man held him close, pressing a kiss to the boy's head. Even without words, Tommy knew he was loved.
But as all moments are, it was short lived.
Footsteps echoed down the hall, shadowed by voices. Techno and Wilbur unsheathed their swords, not even bothering to try and hide. With the four of them in so little time, it would be impossible.
There was a pause as the figures came into view.
Fear gripped Tommy's heart tighter as he recognized his brothers.
"Thomas." Adam glared, revealing his own blade. Lukas did the same beside him, looking towards the very people they had run away from.
"I can't wait to rip you to shreds." Techno growled, a new look in his eyes.
Adam chuckled, staring into Tommy's eyes. "Thomas would never fight his own blood. Why don't you just come quietly-"
"You're not his family." Wilbur snapped.
"By blood-"
"No." Phil shook his head, pushing Tommy behind him. "We're his family by choice."
Adam laughed, "There's no such thing."
That's all it took for Techno to leap towards Lukas. Immediately Techno found power in his anger. Phil took on Adam, glancing towards Wilbur who stood in front of Tommy. "Go on, we'll hold them off!"
"But-"
"Go."
Tommy grabbed Wilbur's arm, pulling him further down the hallway. As much as he hated leaving Techno and Phil, he knew they had no choice. He never lost his grip on Wilbur's arm, finally stopping outside the throne room.
"Wil-"
"We have to go back!" Wilbur shouted, again trying to pull out of the blonde's grip.
"Go then." a voice made Tommy whip around. Relief filled his veins when he saw Dream. "I'll protect Tommy."
Wilbur hesitated, clearly feeling a nagging feeling that told him no. He stared at the blonde, "Swear on your life."
Dream groaned, "I swear."
Tommy let go of Wilbur, shifting uncomfortably towards the blonde. He didn't want to stay with Dream, but he knew that Phil and Techno needed help. "I'll be okay." he promised.
That seemed to be enough for the curly haired teen. With a nod, he turned back towards where they had come from. Tommy watched him disappear out of sight.
Looking back at Dream, he could only pray this horrible feeling would go away.
