Michelle's POV:
I didn't know what to do. In the grand scheme of things, Nick and I's relationship being a secret wasn't that big of a deal. Kylie being pregnant was a big deal and anyone thinking logically would stop worrying about their own relationship and help their pregnant best friend... But for the first time in a long time, I wasn't thinking logically. I wished things would go back to the way they were before. Before all the lies and secrets. It was selfish of Kylie to ask me to keep this secret. And it's selfish of me to worry more about Nick than Kylie.
"Nick?" I said. Nick's worried eyes met mine. "Can I talk to you outside?" I asked, my stomach churning. He nodded slowly, following me out the front door. The door shut behind us.
"Michelle..." He whispered, reaching out and softly touching my cheek with his palm. I closed my eyes and sighed.
"This isn't working," I mumbled, my heart breaking with each word.
"What do you mean?" Nick asked, dropping his hand from my cheek. My eyes remained closed as I said,
"You know what I mean."
"Michelle, don't do this."
"We both have too much going on right now," I said, biting my lip to keep me from crying.
"What do you mean? I don't have anything going on right now..." Nick said, clearly getting angry.
"You don't know it now, but things are changing."
"Michelle," Nick whispered. I looked up at him, our sad eyes connecting. "I can't lose you- not right now. I need you. Don't you get it? I was so sad before you," He hesitated, pulling me into his arms. "You are the only one that is keeping me from losing my goddamned mind." A tear trickled down my cheek as I pulled away from Nick.
"I'm sorry," I barely whispered.
"Michelle, I am in love with you- Please, don't go," Nick called, his voice cracking.
"I'm sorry," I repeated, walking away from Nick.
