𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝗻-𝗶
ONCE again, baek solbi was standing in front of her homeroom door unmoving. on her forehead was a cutesy pokémon themed bandaid. after going home yesterday, solbi realized that her forehead was bleeding from the impact. unfortunately, the nearest convenience store only had cartoon bandaids.
her hands were, once again, covering her forehead. this time it was to cover her bangs and her bandaid. how fun.
she couldn't help but sweat drop at how similar her pose is to yesterday. solbi took in a deep breath and reached towards the door... and immediately made a u-turn away.
although she was lucky enough to hide her bangs yesterday, there was no way people wouldn't notice the brightly colored pikachu chilling in the middle of her forehead. the urge to just go home was growing stronger.
"excuse me." a voice said from behind her. this felt way too familiar.
turning around, solbi sees that it is indeed yoo chunyoung. his face remained emotionless while her face was burning up from embarrassment. being in this situation twice made her want to jump out the window and run as far away as possible.
but she could also use this to her advantage.
"oh sorry! go right ahead!" she said stepping to the side and giving a 'kind' smile. solbi thought she was giving a pretty smile but to chunyoung it made her look just slightly crazy.
he gave her a confused look and walked into the classroom. solbi, just like yesterday, walked in behind him. while the class was fawning over his beauty, she quickly made her way to her seat.
'thank you chunyoung for your sacrifice.' his desk, as well as the other four heavenly kings', was surrounded by people trying to get to know them. their popularity seemed like a huge burden. she shivered at the thought of having that many people talk to her at once. but her mood quickly changed.
solbi hummed to herself, pleased that she was able to get into the class with no one noticing her. what she didn't notice was ju-in looking at her from across the room. his eyes slightly softened as he noticed the pikachu bandaid on her forehead.
it seemed to match her perfectly.
during break time, solbi went to the bathroom.
'gotta pee, gotta pee, gotta pee—' she regretted drinking that entire pack of yakult in the morning.
while she was washing her hands, she noticed the girl next to her was in her class. it was the girl with short brown hair who solbi made eye contact with yesterday.
'ham dan-i.'
solbi became familiar with her name because yeoryeong had been chasing after dan-i all day. it was fun to see what excuse dan-i would make to get away from yeoryeong. seeing, what seems like, a fight between the two childhood friends poked at solbi's nosiness.
something about dan-i was seriously bothering solbi. her name was so familiar. every time solbi heard dan-i's name a tingle of familiarity went off in her head. every time solbi felt like she figured out where she heard dan-i's name the thought would leave immediately. it frustrated her to no end.
solbi, feeling courageous, decided to talk to her. "um-"
dan-i turned towards solbi with wide eyes looking like a deer about to get smacked upside the head by a car. the look dan-i have her also made solbi freak out and stop talking, returning the same look.
'oh my god i messed up!'
"i'm so sorry for scaring you!" solbi buried her face in her hands. internally she was sobbing. "i uh just wanted to be... friends?"
dan-i, who still looked shocked, slowly nodded. "no it's ok! it's my fault for getting all jumpy so i'm sorry. im ham dan-i."
"i'm baek solbi. and it's not your fault! don't be sorry, i'm sorry!" solbi said slightly sorry.
"but i'm sorry!"
"no!"
the two awkward girls spent a good chunk of their break apologizing to each other in the bathroom.
the end of the break was approaching so dan-i and solbi, now friends, were walking back to class.
"so dan-i, where do you liv-" solbi started.
"-is sooo annoying."
dan-i and solbi saw baek yeomin, solbi's desk mate, talking to her friend. yeomin looked pissed off. the two girls tried walking past quickly, but they caught yeomin's eye.
"hi dan-ah!" yeomin brightly called dan-i's nickname. "and seolji right?"
"actually it's-"
"want to be friends? dan-ah? seolji?"
solbi wanted to sit in a corner and cry. yeomin seemed friendly for reaching out to them first but there was a major red flag. first of all, yeomin was probably trash talking someone before they walked in. it was literally just the second day of school. way too early to beef with someone, in solbi's opinion.
also, the more important reason, solbi had introduced herself yesterday to yeomin yet yeomin kept calling her the wrong name. who the hell is seolji?
but the pressure to make friends was getting to solbi. cliques were starting to form in the class and it was very obvious that if solbi didn't grab the olive branch reaching towards her, she'll be marked as a loner. being a loner would guarantee pity from other classmates.
"alright! let's be friends!" dan-i said grasping her hands with yeomin's.
solbi couldn't tell what dan-i was thinking but seeing how enthusiastic dan-i was, solbi decided to go for it. "sure! but my name is actually-"
"great! let's go inside!"
dan-i gave solbi a gentle look and squeezed her hand. "she'll get it eventually."
now the duo became a trio. yeomin and dan-i walked into the class. solbi was trailing behind them a little gloomy that her desk mate couldn't remember her name.
when yeomin and dan-i stopped to look at something, solbi bumped into dan-i's back and made them both stumble a little.
solbi gasped and quickly apologized. "ohmygod! i'msosorrypleaseforgiveme!"
"bi-ah-" nickname unlocked! "you don't have to apologize it's fine." dan-i said reassuringly.
'ham dan-i you freaking angel!' in solbi's eyes, dan-i had a bright light shining around her with angel wings extending from her back.
"whoa yoo chunyoung just smiled!"
solbi whipped her head around so fast she heard her neck crack. chunyoung was sitting across ban yeoryeong smiling at his phone. the mood in the room was so bright and happy seeing the famous ice prince smile.
"it's disgustingly loud." yeomin said coldly from beside dan-i. the mood in the room was instantly shattered from her sharp words. everyone was staring at the trio. solbi wanted to dig a hole in the ground and disappear.
yeomin did an instant 180. "dan-i want to get some snacks! let's go to the store! you too seolji."
dan-i, who was getting dragged off by yeomin complied. "um- okay sure."
but seolji— solbi, couldn't handle the attention her other classmates her giving her. "i'm good you can go ahead." she whispered.
she gave dan-i a small salute as she was dragged off by yeomin.
after that day solbi hadn't talked to yeomin or dan-i. solbi didn't really care about yeomin but it was a little sad that she couldn't talk to dan-i anymore. whenever solbi tried talking to dan-i again, yeomin came and dragged her away to talk.
although it was sad, seeing how dan-i was the only friend solbi managed to make, solbi wasn't the type to chase after someone. she'd hate to be seen as clingy so she just let it be.
but solbi couldn't help but clench her teeth in anger at what was happening right now. solbi's angel, dan-i, was clearly being used! dan-i's pure heart can't see how the demon yeomin was taking advantage of her!
solbi's cheeks puffed up. yeomin was being so sneaky. when yeoryeong would try to talk to dan-i, yeomin would take dan-i away. she'd then send a haughty smirk towards yeoryeong. it was as if she was saying 'dan-i is mine.'
'baek yeomin i will destroy you with my mind for dragging dan-i down with you.' solbi thought as she sent imaginary lasers towards said demon.
it took three days for solbi to gain enough courage to speak up. today was the day that solbi was going to free her angel!
once again, by now solbi has gotten used to it, solbi was standing in front of the classroom door unmoving. the moment she stepped in front of the door all of her courage flew up and away. maybe it would be better to just give up.
'no solbi! you can't give up! dan-i needs to open her eyes and see the truth. you got this solbi. your forehead is bandaid free and your bangs grew just a little!' solbi gave herself a pep talk. just this morning her forehead healed completely so she was able to take the bandaid off. her bangs also grew slightly longer, 4mm, from when she last measured them.
she walked to the door, ready to open it... and immediately made a u-turn. she u-turned right into someone else.
bonk!
the sound of their heads knocking into each other was heard. her poor forehead, who just recovered, got injured again.
solbi groaned in pain, cradling her forehead. why is it always her forehead?
"ah! sorry about that solbi. i thought you were finally going into the classroom and got too close hehe." woo ju-in looked away sheepishly.
'finally going into the classroom'. so he was watching her freak out in front of the door! and he called her by her name!
"no it's okay it was my fault..." it seems like solbi didn't have a single conversation with another student without having to apologize.
woo ju-in continued to stand in front of solbi. his smile was just too bright for her. she followed his gaze towards her forehead.
he playfully pouted. "no more pikachu bandaid?"
her ears were red from the embarrassment. "no my forehead's all better now." she was now avoiding eye contact.
ju-in was about to say something else but solbi remembered her mission.
"i should go in now! uh bye!" she said, finally going into the class.
solbi was ready to drag dan-i away from yeomin but saw that she didn't have to. yeoryeong and dan-i seemed to have made up. yeoryeong was holding onto dan-i's arm as if her life depended on it. seeing the childhood friends make up made solbi smile.
it made solbi smile even brighter seeing how yeomin couldn't approach dan-i while she was with yeoryeong. a happy ending without solbi having to get involved!
solbi made her way to her seat feeling ecstatic. ju-in, who was behind the clueless girl the entire time, took note of how she reacted.
