Tick. Tick. Tick...

As you could probably guess, that would be the clock.

Hmmmm...

And what may be more difficult to assume, that would be the soft and time passing humming of a little blue hedgehog.

Sonic had been home alone most of the day, and for once, he hadn't trashed the place. It was a great phenomenon for the cheeky cerulean critter not to laugh in the face of every rule set in stone by his parents before they took off to their vital occupations that pumped safety through the town of Green Hills like blood through a heart before smashing them to pieces.

It was for reasons that remained unknown to himself, but today it felt right. Since the moment he awakened in the attic customised to be his lovely little bedroom in the silky crimson duvet of his racecar bed this morning, he could sense a change to his regular attitude to being left completely alone ahead. Again, he wasn't sure why, but spontaneously it happened, and it felt like the words of his parents sank in more successfully today.

"Stay outta trouble! And don't trash the place!" Tom instructed, leaving formally and extremely early, prepared for another day as a local sheriff still with hope he would be given a duty more intriguing than measuring speed of passing vehicles.

"Take care of yourself, sweetheart." Maddie cried out from her more hurried departure later in the morning from an emergency veterinary call, while ensuring she blew a little kiss to her beloved hedgehog son before leaving.

And (Y/n)...

This morning, she had stumbled out of bed at a time that left her on the brink of being late to school, and Sonic had practically watched her every move with emerald eyes still dreary from the night. Even though she couldn't have been any more distracted, gathering all of her equipment after overcoming the main challenge of remembering what the heck day it even was, she made sure to give him a hug before rushing out the door swiftly after her father.

"See you later, Sonic." She softly mumbled, as her voice was compressed in volume from her face being buried so deep in the top of Sonic's head.

She felt him nod into her shoulder, and she broke the embrace way too soon for what the hedgehog preferred so their eyes could connect. (Y/n) smiled into those vivid green skies filled with mesmerising bolts of lighter shades and darker yellows as she felt Sonic's admiration pour through her dazzling (e/c) gems. Gently, she pressed a hand to his cheek so this moment wouldn't cease too soon, although she knew he would never leave by his own choice.

"Are you sure you'll be okay?"

Sonic nodded vigorously again, but (Y/n) could sense the little smile he acted screamed with lies. She always felt regretful leaving him every morning without fail, and her walk to school felt bemused after his little reply.

"Yup."

But the hedgehog, still half asleep, cherished her departure every morning, even though her inevitable absence laid ahead. No matter what predicament she had rolled out of bed into, an early go ahead or an unorganised late start, she always made sure to give him her full attention before she left, even if it were to be for not quite a minute. Despite this sometimes meaning a hold up after school for waltzing through those gates a tad too behind schedule, it would happen without fail.

Sonic could still feel to this moment around nine hours later where she had rubbed the palm of her softened hand over his forehead, caressing his quills until her fingers traced the very tips. He could still sense a buzz against the peach fuzz to his cheek that had been graced with her lips, like a patch of warm fervor had tickled it all day since.

Right now, though, Sonic was still home alone. His only company as of yet was his forever loyal doggy friend Ozzy, blending into the arm of the cushioned couch with his golden fur mingling with the tanned colouring of the sofa, like dampened sand had melted into the silky material permanently. Sonic could feel Ozzy's heated body against the sole of his sneaker, vibrations of panting pressing his stomach up and down.

But Sonic didn't mind, and honestly barely noticed. His thoughts were lost in another universe, transported into another galaxy, and were immersed into what his little gloved hands held above his emerald gaze refusing to blink. He had lost track of how many hours his eyes had been staring into the infinity of comic books, practically hundreds stacked up beside the sofa his fluffy body laid across until his toes touched Ozzy.

At least it had passed the day smoothly, and with a glance to the clock shuddering against the wall with every antique tick locked in the wooden rim underneath that dusty glass, Sonic realised his personal paradise was about to come to an end. He heard a harsh crunch to the driveway, his shoulders quietly jumping and pushing a startled wheeze from his chest.

Sonic groaned as the comic held above his head rested to the arm of the couch slapped him in the face from a drop, the jump wriggling over his shoulders weakening his hold of the already creased pages. Hastily, and reluctantly, he slammed the flimsy book closed and mentally wished the action packed stories and aesthetically pleasing doodles goodbye. Sonic clambered up from his laid back position, his shoes sinking into the creamy white couch as if he stood in quicksand.

His gloved fingers gripped the windowsill behind the top of the sofa with one hand while the other brushed the curtains aside. He felt his eyes squint in the beaming light alive, the autumn sky darkening although the clock that still lightly chimed read slightly past six post meridiem. Sonic felt his legs naturally bounce against the sofa, the foam within the cushions acting like the elastic centre of a trampoline.

He could just about recognise the vehicle to be Tom's police car shuddering to a halt through the shadow of car lights, and before the eager hedgehog even had the chance to alter the curtains to the pristine state they were in prior, he could hear the jangling of keys to the front door. Sonic scurried from the couch, disturbing Ozzy in the process but encouraging the dog to follow him while he dusted himself off for reasons he didn't find apparent.

The hedgehog adjusted himself at the foot of the door rather formally, and rather adorably. He held his arms behind his back, his fingers interlocked between his hands weaved above his little tail. He pressed his toes into the mat pressed to the polished floorboards, rolling onto his heels and back again in waiting. Ozzy plopped his fuzzy body beside him while Tom stylishly swivelled into the house, embracing Sonic as soon as he could.

"Hey, buddy. How was your day?"

Sonic giggled from the rough rub of Tom's hand into the soft blue of his head before answering while his paternal human patted Ozzy.

"Meh, it was okay. Nothing exciting." He shrugged with a half-hearted frown, wandering from the doorway with a plan to continue the intoxicating storyline of the comic book series glowing through his already adrenaline powered gaze to the stack remaining on the table.

"I can see, the place is spotless." Tom sniggered.

Sonic chuckled back. His sneakers waddled at a pace considered fast to others from a distance but slow and tedious personally until he came to a pause, the door trembling as another crumple echoed from the pebbles to the driveway. Sonic spun where his step smoothly halted at the heel, grinning as the door creaked to reveal a rather flustered Maddie.

She took in a weak breath, and crouched to Sonic as he blasted from his pleasantly interrupted journey in a streak of blue plastered to the relatively cool air. Tom stifled a chuckle, Sonic's approach to Maddie much more attached and affectionate than how he greeted himself, the hedgehog's tail wagging softly and subtly from her kind caresses to his fuzzy little cheeks.

"Hi, baby. You had a nice day?"

"Meh."

Tom sniggered silently that his reply was just as plain as what he offered to himself, but his swaying tail suggested otherwise. His voice sounded squashed like his cheeks between Maddie's hands, and she giggled softly in a daze from his majestic emerald orbs illuminated by the ability to burn with electricity freezing from a single blink to stay with her own deep brown eyes.

Sonic held back a rumble of a purr his satisfied stomach was desperate to release, his fuzzy cheeks still cupped in his human mother's hands feeling a little heated through the embarrassment that his body even intended to vibrate caringly. He tried to keep his attention steady, but that infuriating snick to the clock guiding to around half past six left him on edge.

It was unusual for (Y/n) to be the last out of the family to return home, and her absence caught the unnerved little hedgehog in a net of uncertainty. Sonic cleared his throat anxiously to pop the awkward question of where she could be, his heart aching to know.

"Where's (Y/n)?"

Maddie pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead, pulling out her phone to double check her scheduled reply was correct.

"She just texted me. She's hanging out with some friends, and hopefully won't be long."

Sonic scrunched his nose with disapproval, and felt a roaring flame of jealousy ignite his chest. He simply nodded in response, and the following half hour or so of the evening sailed by as swiftly as a boat to the gentle oceans. Sonic felt zoned out while his hands raising his chin to the windowsill dwindled in sensitivity, and his eyes seemed glazed.

He could softly hear his parental guardians' discussion from the kitchen, but his concentration knew not how to trail away from the front yard. Although it was reaching seven and could still be considered a late evening, the current season spread moonshine across the stone pathway and a shield of pure black. The sky seemed hazed with clouds enough as it was, and the dark hue leaked through their lighter shade like ink through paper.

Sonic knew (Y/n)'s route home like the script of his favourite movie or the dialogue on every page of those comics from his ten years alone, growing more nervous considering the amount of roads she would need to cross and mysterious alleyways that could be awaiting to pounce in this hideous nightshade. He felt his knees shiver where they held his whole body upright to keep his stare locked through the curtains held open by his cheeks, until a crunch to the driveway tickled his ears.

It had to be her!

Sonic leapt from the couch with as much enthusiasm as a toddler bouncing on their bed on Christmas morning, hearing a frail squeak from Ozzy as he disrupted the smoothness to the cushions the hound was surely retaking advantage of. He darted to the doorway faster than you could announce (Y/n)'s name upon her most certain arrival, losing patience after stopping for just a millisecond.

"Heya, sorry I'm late I was-"

"(Y/N)!!!"

Sonic easily sliced (Y/n)'s apology into jagged edges like roughly cut tissue paper, his excitement for her pretty little face to be back in front of his own bubbling over. His eyes twinkled in relief and with a sparkle of admiration that could trigger cartoon hearts popping all around him. He flashed ahead until he could reach her waist, no patience willing to let her step into the building, burying his muzzle to where his head upon a three foot body could reach - her stomach.

"Hi, Sonic." He heard her whisper, so delicately.

(Y/n) slid her backpack from the shoulder it rested upon so both arms could fall victim to this attention. She could feel the pressure of Sonic's precious little nose press into her stomach through her uniform; her formal school shirt ripped clean from needing to be tucked into her skirt. She wrapped an arm around Sonic's shoulders and another snuck into his quills, the satisfied hedgehog too distracted to hold back a purr as her fingers weaved around them.

"I missed you." She heard him breathe, and the disheartened words felt as strong as tattoos breaking through to her skin like every whisper spelt them out letter by letter.

"Oh, sweetie, I missed you too." (Y/n) admitted, the opening to the response sounding dragged down by the passion and clone of a feeling alive in the whole of her heart.

Sonic raised his feet still buried in his sneakers to the very toes, running his hands further up (Y/n)'s waist until they reached the back of her shoulders. (Y/n) felt her spine shudder from the touch, and rolled along with Sonic's intentions to bring her down. As soon as she reached his height from knees crouched below the weakening material of her tights that prayed to be renewed, the warmth of his cheek exploded into her neck.

(Y/n) felt like a solider returning from war, and Sonic was her child who hadn't been graced with her presence for months that felt eternal. With every breath she felt she could choke, his arms harshly wrapped around her neck to bring his fluffy face deep into her shoulder. She could feel a beaming smile curving into his muzzle, and its widening shape tickled her skin to the bone underneath. Unaware to both of them, his tail wagged violently.

Carefully, she patted his back with one hand so the other could take a breather and close the door whistling with darkening breezes. And tenderly, she scooped under his knees and raised him to her chest like a toddler. Sonic made no effort to move, and seemed like he carried every ounce of willingness to go with whatever she wished, as long as he stayed in her arms. (Y/n) wandered to the sofa, and Sonic giggled sweetly against her skin with another burst of heat as he felt her rock him side to side.

She could tell without even hearing it in speech what he wanted. Regret gnawed away inside her, yet appreciation to be loved so deeply by a little hedgehog overpowered it inside her stomach, the two contradicting emotions battling against one another with every punch sending butterflies wild. She huffed as her body aching from those long strolls around town collapsed into the lightly shaded cushions, faintly winded.

She leant harder into the couch, and she could feel Sonic's fingers grip her shoulders deeper. His fluffy face was snuggled so chasmically into her neck the little guy could faint, his breaths spewing away from her gentle skin as he lips felt chemically bonded to her. He brought his legs - or lethal weapons, in his language - around her waist, and his chest met hers. (Y/n) could feel the frantic pounding of his heart simmer down, like the softer thump of her own was infectious.

Sonic felt her breaths individually haze across his shuddering shoulders and quills, the gentle mist exploring around each one like a whip of wind through a thick forest at the height of spring. It felt soothing, like a massage that didn't even require a physical touch. (Y/n) rubbed her hands up and down below his back quills, until her fingers melted into his neck so the whole of her palm could meet his silken cerulean shoulders.

He felt her face caress the side of his, the tip of her nose playing with where his quills faded into his head. Intentionally, she copied his nuzzle into her neck with his petite and freshly moistened nose into the crook of his, and she sensed the whole of Sonic's body smoothly melting deeper into her hold. She showered a few kisses across the side of his vivid blue quills, and she felt his cheek shimmy over slightly yet suggestively.

(Y/n) felt Sonic's grin lengthen against the heated skin of her neck as she planted some kisses across the fluff of his cheek, its pressure allowing its shaping transforming slowly into more of a smirk to feel drawn by lead to her jawline. She felt him slip down a little, and his face became slammed into her shoulder, his fingers gripping her shirt so desparately it could tear. (Y/n) slid her hand over the back of Sonic's gloved ones, soothing down the hopeless tension.

(Y/n) giggled softly, her chest adopting the role of a pillow. Sonic shivered every time it rose and fell, and he could feel her heart throbbing inside. His fingers trickled over the weary material of her shirt, picking at the buttons. (Y/n) could see his content emeralds half open, and leant closer to the top of his head to grant Sonic with the wish she could sense he was craving through that glaze.

She showered him with a few more tender kisses, and failed to resist another giggle from the rumble rippling over his vibrant cobalt fur. He seemed unfazed, maybe not even noticing the predicament himself. (Y/n) rested her cheek to the top of his head, her jawline tingling from the subtle purrs. She squeezed this pleasure that felt oh so wrong yet oh so right for as long as she could, until Sonic recognised the source of her trembling breaths breaking between her cheekily grinning lips.

"I-I'm not purring." He tried to state with certainty, but a concoction of humiliation and the gladdened humming electrocuting his body itself quivered the words and overthrew the confidence.

(Y/n) giggled only softly, pressing another yet longer kiss into his quills that pumped through Sonic from the tender touch like medicine for his uneasiness.

"Sure, sure. You keep telling yourself that."
