"copy that" you and steve say at the same time causing nat, next to you, to snigger
after a few seconds of silence roger's voice is heard again. he whispered a small, seemingly embarrassed "sorry"
"it's alright stevie boy"
with another airy laugh you began to instruct your team "right, my friends, we have probably three minutes before they figure out they've been infiltrated. rogers and my team get out safely! nat and i will get the files" you order and in return hear a chorus of confirmations
with a deep breath you continued down the hallway with nat right beside you. you never doubted your girlfriend you knew she could defend herself easily but it still didn't stop you worrying for her safety
"oi" the redhead stops you at the end of the corridor, she holds your shoulders. upon her action you try not to wince in pain. the uncovered gash from fighting some hydra agents earlier was only not pouring with blood because your suit was so tight the wound had no space to breathe. now that she had dislodged it accidentally it began to bleed
if your girlfriend wasn't a trained spy she definitely wouldn't have noticed the quick fall in your stoic visage but alas she did
"where hurts?" she asked softly but you weren't going to budge, not in the middle of a mission anyways. so, you being big old captain y/l/n continued on with the task of retrieving the files
it didn't take long to reach the data room, grab the file and return to jet. it only took the amount of time it did because nat keep stopping you at every door or corridor
she truly only wanted to care for you because it broke her to see you hurt and just not let her in but she honestly couldn't blame you because before the two of yours' relationship she used to be the same. being with you allowed her be vulnerable, cry out her emotions and share her thoughts
she calmed a little when the both of you sat down and you let your head rest on her shoulder
the widow knew you needed to have medical attention but you certainly weren't going to do so in front of your team of agents. you'd wait until you and nat were in the comfort of the compound
two hours later and you were sat on the sofa, suit still on, trapped in your own thoughts as your girlfriend went and gathered everything she needed
truth be told she didn't think your injury was as bad as it actually was. it seems your suit hid the full extent of it
"i swear to god if you bleed onto that sofa" you heard tony warn from his place on the single seater
snapped out of your thoughts, you look down to your arm where there was indeed a huge access of blood. you tried to stay calm about it but the sudden lightheadedness and pain was overwhelming
"tony, i- i think i need help" the man started to panic at the tremble in your voice. you were never one to panic. cool, calm, captain y/l/n, you were
"nat, yeah, i'll get nat. yeah" he scrambled on the spot for a few seconds before running off but instead of bringing natasha back he brought bruce
they knew captain y/l/n was stubborn but they were hoping with the amount of pain and blood you would concede. they were quite mistaken
"i want my girlfriend" you grumbled through gritted teeth
unfortunately you couldn't argue much more as the lightheadedness took over and you passed out
nat barrelled into the room only moments later and rushed to your side where the two men had already situated themselves

the injury you had sustained wasn't that severe it was the blood loss that caused the problem
you were sat on a med bay bed with your head resting on nat's chest as she ran her fingers through your hair
"i love it when you're this soft" she admitted with a kiss to your temple "cuddly captain y/l/n" the redhead teased
