"Fuck!" Kali shouted, struggling to do her dress up "Ed's! I need some help" it didn't take long before Eddie rushed into her bedroom "what's wrong sweetheart?"
"This damn dress won't do up" she huffed. Since she didn't get a chance to wear it for her date with Billy, Kali had decided to wear her dark red dress for their birthday date. She tugged on the zip a little more but Eddie slapped her hand away "you'll break it if you carry on tugging it like that" Kali couldn't help but burst out laughing, Eddie's eyes widened when he realised what he said, he burst out laughing as his face turned bright red. Eddie cleared his throat and grabbed hold of the zip, after a little bit of a struggle he finally managed to secure the dress, he threw his fists in the air in triumph as Kali straightened the dress out "okay, so how do I look?" She turned to face him. Eddie looked her up and down, in his eyes she could've worn a garbage bag and still been the most beautiful girl he'd ever laid eyes on but he would never admit his feelings, she was happy with Billy and her happiness was more important to him then anything else, he was quickly pulled from his thoughts when Kali started snapping her fingers in his face "hello, earth to Eddie" he smiled at her as he grabbed her hand and spun her around "you look beautiful sweetheart" she giggled as he spun her, she tried to steady herself as she stopped. Kali sat down on the bed as she pulled her black heeled boots on, she checked her hair and makeup one last time in the mirror before standing back up.
Billy could barely contain his excitement as he pulled up outside Kali's trailer. He had worn her favourite shirt paired with some black jeans, and his black biker boots. Tonight was all about her, in fact Billy had promised himself that for as long as he is alive, Kali's happiness would always be his number one priority. He'd never felt this way about anyone before and maybe it was still a little too early in their relationship to admit it but she was the one. She was the only one he ever wanted to be with and he wanted a life with her. One day he was going to swap the promise ring out for an engagement ring, they would get married in California surrounded by their closest friends and they'd raise their own perfect little family together and watch them start their own lives as they grow old together. Nothing could come between them and nothing was going to get in the way of their future.
Billy took a deep breath, he grabbed the small box from the seat behind him and made his way towards the front door. He gently knocked on the door and stepped backwards "hey Hargrove, come in, she'll be out in a minute" Eddie said as he stepped to the side to allow Billy to enter the trailer. They both stood in the living room, Billy lit a cigarette as he waited, looking around at all the mugs and hats on the walls. He'd been inside this trailer so many times but he'd never paid much attention to the decor, "hey Romeo" he turned around at the sound of Kali's angelic voice, a voice he could never get tired of hearing. There she was. Billy's eyes practically popped out of his head when he saw her, her dress matched his shirt, it stopped about midway down her thighs and had thin straps that you could barely notice on her tanned skin, it hugged her body perfectly and accentuated her small waist, she had paired the dress with her usual black boots along with the necklace from her grandfather and the necklace Billy had gotten her when she came home from hospital, she was still wearing her promise ring, something that she refused to take off unless she was showering or washing dishes, her long black hair was pulled over to one side, showing off the side shave that had grown out slightly. Billy couldn't stop looking her up and down as she moved towards him, even when she wrapped her arms around his neck he struggled to keep his eyes off her body "wow.. you look... just... wow" Kali laughed as he spoke, her face turning red as she looked into his eyes "I'm one lucky guy" he grinned, he pulled her in for a kiss "I love you" he whispered as they pulled away, Kali placed a hand on the side of his face "I love you too Romeo" they shared another kiss before Billy stood back, breaking their hold on each other. He grabbed the box out of his pocket and held it in front of Kali, she felt butterflies in her belly as she took the box from his hands. She read the little note that was attached,
Happy birthday princess, hopefully this one doesn't turn your finger green.
When Kali opened the box her eyes widened. Inside was a beautiful silver ring with a red jewel in the centre and small detailing around the sides. It was beautiful.
"Billy, it's beautiful" she smiled trying to hold back her tears "only the best for my girl" he whispered, placing a kiss on her forehead before taking the ring out of the box. As he went to remove her old ring she pulled her hand back "hang on" she pulled the ring off of her finger and placed it on her opposite hand, the old arcade ring now sitting on her right ring finger "there, now I can wear both" she smiled, holding her left hand out for Billy to put the new ring on. She couldn't stop smiling as she looked down at her hand, the silver complimented her skin tone and the jewel matched her dress, she pulled Billy in for a kiss, she couldn't imagine a more perfect gift from a more perfect guy. In that moment she was the happiest she'd ever been, maybe I should wait to tell him, she found herself thinking as she stared into his eyes. She didn't want anything to ruin this moment and she knew as soon as she told him, everything would be different.
They made their way down the dimly lit road, Kali was so wrapped up in her own little world that she didn't even notice that they had driven past the diner. They pulled up outside a familiar house "why are we at Tina's?" She looked over at Billy confused but he didn't say anything, he just smiled at her as he climbed out of the drivers side and made his way round to her door. Billy opened the passenger side door and held his hand out to help Kali step out, he held her close as they made their way to the front door, he could feel Kali getting nervous, he squeezed her hand slightly "just trust me princess" he whispered as they stepped inside the large house. All of the lights were out and Kali could barely see where she was walking, thank god Billy had hold of her otherwise she probably would've fallen over. As they made their way inside what Kali assumed was the living room she could hear whispering and giggling and felt blinded when the lights suddenly turned on.
Surprise!
Kali practically jumped in Billy's arms when everyone shouted. It took her a minute to realise that Billy had planned another surprise party, with Eddie's help no doubt. Everyone cheered for her and shouted happy birthday as she calmed down, she could barely contain how happy she was.
The party was in full swing, everyone had a drink in their hand and was dancing away to the music. There was a table filled with presents sat in the corner of the living room and it looked as though almost everyone from school had gotten her something. Tina and the guys had done an amazing job at planning this party but there was something missing. Kali hadn't spoken to Steve since that night at the Byers house and it hadn't been easy. She had seen him almost everyday at school, he kept trying to apologise to her but she wasn't ready to hear him out, although she longed to have him back in her life. He had been her best friend for so long and he'd been there for her through so much and it felt like she was missing her right arm. Kali's smile was starting to waver at the thought of Steve and Billy had noticed, he cupped her face in his hands "what's wrong princess?" He could see the tears forming in her eyes "I was just thinking about Steve" she whimpered, Billy's eyes softened as he pulled her into his chest, wrapping his arms around her neck and back "well then I guess I've got another surprise for you" he turned her around so she was facing the front door and pointed. Steve was stood with a beer in his hand as his head hung low, it didn't take long for Kali to run over to him "Steve!" She shouted, he looked up just in time, she crashed into his chest, wrapping her arms around his waist as the tears fell from both their eyes "Kali I'm so sorry"
"Shh it's okay Steve I forgive you" she tightened her grip, grabbing handfuls of his shirt. She didn't care about their fight or what was said, all she cared about was having her best friend back. Now the real party could begin.
As the night went on, Kali found herself outside laying on the grass and looking up at the stars with Steve, Billy and Eddie at her side. Soon enough Gareth, Jeff and Tina were also laid with them. They passed a joint around as they starred at the darkened sky, this was the perfect way to spend her birthday, "see that's the Big Dipper" Steve spoke as he pointed his finger up "no that's the Big Dipper" Tina chimed in, pointing her finger in the opposite direction. The whole group laughed "you're both wrong" Kali giggled "the Big Dipper is right here" everyone laid there confused when Kali didn't point her hand to the sky, but Billy burst out laughing when he realised where she was pointing to. The group turned to face the young couple, Kali and Billy were still laughing to each other, they looked down to see that Kali's hand was pointing at Billy's crotch and they all let out a loud groan as they laughed "well she's not wrong" Billy continued to laugh "ugh you guys are gross" Tina laughed as she stumbled to her feet "I think it's time for another drink" and with those words, Gareth, Jeff, Steve and Eddie all stumbled after her towards the kitchen.
Kali and Billy were still laying on the floor, their hands intwined as they stared up at the stars. Kali could feel the secret she had been keeping slowly creeping to the front of her mind, she turned her head to face Billy "I've got a secret to tell you" Billy's head shot over to her, "oh yeah and what's that princess?" He smiled as he looked into her eyes, she stared at him for a little while, unsure whether she should tell him or not but before she could change her mind it came out like word vomit "I'm pregnant".
