Deos, imperial year 16
A year since i became a noble, and life is a little mundane compared to being a commoner, but what can i do, i chose this too.
It was a sunny afternoon when i decided to sneak out to the capital. It's been a long time since i've come out of the Estate, so being outside is a little exciting.
The first time i sneaked out of the estate, i immediately went and looked for Lori and the others. The other kids are fine and still rowdy, they even said that there's no one that treats them to snacks anymore, so they missed me. But Lori on the other hand, is not there anymore, all the neighbors know is that they moved out of the capital because of family issues, nobody knows where they are now. It was sad and disappointing, i didn't even get to say goodbye to her, she's my first friend, even if i count my last life. But, it is what it is, we'll meet again, i believe, as long as we are under the same sky, we'll reunite again.
There are lots of people decorating the whole place. I remember that this is also the time when i met Sapphire, it's probably for her birthday again. She invited me to her celebration, so i'm out here to also look for a gift.
I don't have any clue what to give her as a birthday present, it's a little hard to gift a princess because she already has everything she can get in this empire. Getting her something she's never seen is pretty easy, i'm from another world so i know a lot, but what thing to give is what's difficult.
"What about a toy?" I asked to myself while looking from the outside of a toy store. "She wouldn't like it though, she already have lots of toys." I mumbled to myself and decided to walk away.
I was walking towards a dress shop when i saw something from the corner of my eyes. A hooded figure i'm very much familiar with. They're the one who's always visiting Mother Tara in the Hugo town. I know because i remember their presence and smell, he's Fabian, mother's old friend.
He got inside a liquor shop and i immediately went after him. I sneakily got inside the shop and saw Fabian going inside a door behind the counter. I was about to go after him when a man with a huge sword on his back blocked my way.
"What are you doing here kid? This is not a place to play, go home and eat some cookie." The man's loud voice caught the attention of the people around us so i just walked away and went outside, but before i can go on my way, i looked back at the door and saw Fabian standing there, looking at me. When we made an eye to eye contact, he turned his back and go back inside the door.
"That very suspicious door." I thought, squinting my eyes at the now closed door.
I decided to just let it go for now and go back to my business.
I never thought that i would ever be friends with a princess, but here i am. I don't have any idea what to gift her, all i can think that a turning eleven year old princess would want as a gift is a toy.
This is harder than looking for a gift for my ex-girlfriends in my last life. The selection of gifts in my last life is endless, and my ex-girlfriends only liked expensive jewelries and bags, so that's what i always give them.
"Wait, how about a toy from my last life?" I mumbled to myself.
Sapphire is a smart child, she likes things that can make her think. That's the only thing i can think of, for now, i can even make it myself. The invention that even the inventor himself took months to solve.
Now that i already have a present in mind, i can walk around without any worries. There are food stalls around the area, i kinda wanna try everything out.
As a daughter of a grand duchess, i have my own allowance every week, and it's not little at all, so money isn't a problem for me. I saw a bunch of skewers and decided to buy some. All i can say is, it's tasteless compared to noble's food, and very far from the taste of street foods in the modern world. But i can't throw it away. Food is too precious to waste.
After trying the skewers, i walked once again and saw some vendors selling candies. I almost bought one for everyone i know, but i forgot that they are noble children, and street foods aren't their thing.
Walking for some more, i saw some hooded figures roaming around the area.
"Hooded robes are really a trend here huh?" I thought to myself and decided to walk inside a blacksmith shop.
"Welcome," a tall burly man greeted me when i stepped inside. "Hey kid, what are you doing here, this isn't a place to play around." He scolded me when he saw that the one who came in is a small child.
"I know, you're not the first person who told me that," i nonchalantly said to him while looking at his displays.
There are bunch of weapons lying around, some are high quality while some are low.
"Do you do special modifications?" I asked.
"And what would a kid like you want to modify?" The man laughed for a reason i'm not sure of.
While i was browsing in the store, the burly man from earlier is replaced by a skinny man. He's looking at me with cautious eyes like i will steal something in here and run away.
The store doesn't have anything to my liking so i decided to go up to the man in the counter.
"Excuse me," i took one of the spears in my storage that mother Tara gave and showed it to him. "I would like you to modify this spear of mine, would that be possible?"
The man looked at me with an eyebrow raised, he took the spear in my hand slowly and looked at it hard. His eyes widen and his hold on my spear tightened.
"What's his problem?" I only thought of that in my head and decided to just take my spear back, but the man swatted my hand making it hit the display in the counter.
The glass display in the counter shattered and the door behind it burst open, revealing the man from earlier.
"What's happening in here?" He looked down at the broken display across the counter and looked up at me and the man who's still holding my spear.
"He-" i was about to answer when the man cut me off.
"Boss, this kid stole a precious weapon," he showed the burly man my spear, "see?"
What he said made me furrow my brows and grit my teeth.
"She stole this?" The boss asked the man while checking out my spear. He turned to me and asked, "is that true kid?"
"Of course not, i showed him that because i asked him if you are doing modifications," i looked straight at the boss and answered him.
"Then how did you get to have a spear as good as this if you did not steal it? This kind of spear is rare and are only owned by special people!" The skinny man shouted at me, making the boss glare at him. The skinny man shrinked on his spot and bowed his head.
"What he said is true, this spear is rare, how did you get to acquire this one?" The boss calmly asked me, but his deep voice made it sound like he's mad.
"Pardon me sir, but, why do i need to answer that? Should i go around and tell everyone everything about me?" I asked him, rather irritated with the situation.
"See-" before the skinny guy could finish, the boss looked at him once again making him shut up.
The boss turned to me and said,
"No you don't have to answer, but this item is rare and special, if this thing goes to the knights ears, i cannot assure your safety. So you need to tell me wether you really stole this or not."
I sighed to myself and decided to just answer, he's got a point anyway. "It's from my mother." I said to to him seriously.
"And who is this mother of yours?" He asked, now with his guard down.
"I don't know if you know her, but she's a former knight," i don't want to give him a name, i don't even know if he's a good or bad news.
"A former knight huh," he said while stroking his beard. He looked at me with squinted eyes and smiled, "alright, i believe you."
"Alright, now give me back my spear." I said to him while holding out my hand.
"Didn't you say that you want some modifications?" The boss asked, not giving my spear.
"I changed my mind, your staffs can't give a proper service. Doesn't he have a common sense? If i stole that spear, why would i let it out and show it to him?" I said to him seriously, still holding out my hand.
"HAHAHAHAHAHA! Don't worry, i'll give him a lesson later. Now let me take care of this spear of yours." The boss laughed out loud startling the other costumers.
I squinted my eyes at him and observed his behavior. After i concluded that he wouldn't trick me, i decided to trust him this time. "Alright."
We talked about the modifications i want for my spear and when can i get it back. He said that the payment will be given by the day the finish product is taken back.
"I'm sorry about my staff earlier, he's a rude one. Don't worry i'll make sure to give you your spear in an even greater condition." The boss, whose name is mr.Brown, reassured me.
"I'll wait for it then." I was about to get out of the door when he said something that made me stop.
"See you again. Say hi to Tara for me," he said.
I looked back at him, with my eyes wide open. "You know my mother? No, how did you know that she is my mother?" I asked him.
I kinda felt excited because he probably got a clue to where i can find mother.
"HAHAHAHA! Tara is one of my acquaintance in the adventurer's guild before. When i took a closer look at you, you look a little like her, you even got her nasty attitude." He said, he looks like he's reminiscing everything from the past, because of his far away look.
"Do you... know where she is?" I asked him, hoping to get a good answer.
"Hmm, not really." He said as he once again stroked his beard. I know he's lying, but at least i got a clue now, aside from Fabian.
"Alright, thank you kind sir," i bowed to him with a noble's courtesy.
He looked shock at first but then he wave his hands ushering me to go already, so i did.
This is a pretty fruitful walk, i need to start with a lot of things.
