I should have scented them. I blame myself. Yet I had just felt the pull of my mate. I was destracted.
Me and Father were hunting. We caught a doe, and were draging her back to our den. Then, out of nowhere, it seamed, a crosbow bold loged itself in his throght. Men. I panicked. I fled to the den, followed by pounding foortseps, unwittingly lesding them to my mother and the 2 new cubs. Mother had one of the cubs in her teeth, and I grabbed the other buy the scruff of its neck. We tried to flee, yet we were cornered. They killed her, and as they did I ran through their legs, still holding my baby brother. I ran untill I could run no more, and then I cried. I howeled untill my voice cracked. The cub mewled pitifully, and I nudged it close to my flank, trying to ceep it warm. I had nowhere to go.
I slept roughly that night. I did not know what to do. Where i would go.Finally the sun rose. As it did, I felt the pull of my mate, once more, stronger this time. I knew what I had to do. I set of once more, carrying my brother in my jaws.
It was noon, by the time I reached the lake. I padded out into the clearing that it ran through and sat. I waited for what felt like hours, the cub squalling all the time. Finally, as I was begining to loose hope, I saw a pair of gleaming golden eyes in the shaddows. As he stepped into the clearing, I knew, he was mine. I was his. His pelt was pale brown, with flashes of blue/black down his flanks. His muscles rippled on his chest and legs. And his eyes gleamed.
"Mate" he growled. "Mate" I replied. Then I realised, my brother had stopped wimpering. He was looking up at my Mate in awe. "Who?" Rumbled my mate.
"Brother" I replied. "Name?" I inquiered. "Thunderbringer. You?" Her grumbled. "Ebonyrage" "why is your brother not with parents, Ebon?" Thunderbringer inquiered "Parents murdered last night. Man came" Thunderbringer looked worried "come with. I have good territory. No man. We raise cub." I dipped my head in agreement.
