marley was born to renee and charles buchanan
in phoenix, arizona. she was later followed by a
younger brother, jasper buchanan. it was shortly
after his birth that charles buchanan turned to
alcoholism and taking his anger out on his family,
mostly renee. at the age of 13, marley and her
brother came from school to find their mother
murdered, blood everywhere after having been
stabbed many times. now parentless, marley was
sent to live with their god father in virginia, david
rossi, after their father was apprehended. rossi did
his best to parent the children despite his hectic
and busy schedule and life style, leaving the children
mostly with a nanny. marley and jasper went through
years of therapy and attempts to put their past behind
them and live a normal life in virginia. despite this,
marley attempted suicide at the age of sixteen and
only survived due to being found in time by jasper.

after recovering, marley pushed all her attention
and energy into her studies, finishing high school
a year early and leaving to college as soon as she
could. she would graduate with a PhD and later
serve as a consultant on a case with her father and
the bau before being offered a position on the team
by aaron hotchner.
