"Oh fuck," I mumbled to myself as my new boss's gaze shifted away from mine to give his attention to his Mother who began to speak to him, but the devious smirk he held was still in play.

"Oh fuck, is right," Talia whispered from next to me and Alex was giving us a jealous-filled side-eye that I ignored, "If I was straight, I'd definitely take that for a ride—"

"That is not what I meant Talia," I interrupted her risqué comment that called for an HR meeting, "That's the asshole that cut me off in the parking structure." I revealed, dread sinking into my skin like ice cold water.

I am so fired.

Both of their heads turned fully in my direction, "Well maybe with him being our new boss and all, you should probably stop calling him an asshole." Alex said.

I met his hazel gaze and I'm confident he could see the horror in my eyes, "It doesn't matter, I already said it to his face—twice—and I may or may not have flipped him off too." I dropped my head down with a heavy sigh and eyed the disfigured cake. This is no longer just going to be Fred's retirement cake, but my farewell and hello to poverty cake as well.

"What a nice way of introducing yourself," Talia teased and I glanced up to shoot her a glare of annoyance. Of course she would find this humorous while I'm standing here, panicking.

"Well hopefully he's a forgiving man who believes in second chances, because now is your time to apologize. He's walking over here." Alex's words took a minute to register in my mind and once they did, I stood up straight and looked forward to see him walking right towards me.

My palms were already beginning to sweat as the handsome, yet jerk of a man approached, "Anakin Skywalker," He smiled a charming smile as he shook both Talia and Alex's hands who gave him their names in return. Anakin then shifted his eyes to me, and again his smile widened, like he was taunting me now that I knew who exactly he was, "And your name?" He tilted his head as he held his hand out to me.

I reluctantly placed my hand in his and he squeezed it tight, "(Y/n)." I mumbled, holding our eye contact that created a thick tension in the air. I was waiting for it, for the words to leave his lips that would let me know I was no longer going to have a job by Monday morning.

"(Y/n)," He repeated my name, "Such a pretty name for a girl with such a foul attitude."

And there it is.

He let go of my hand and dropped it by his side. This was my opportunity to apologize to him and hopefully save myself, even though I don't think he deserves one, but I'm not in the position to be arguing. The ice is already thin enough, "Listen about that, I'm really sorry—"

He held his hand up, "No need for an apology, I know you're sorry." My brows raised. He knows I'm sorry? If he wasn't my boss, I swear I'd rip him a new one right now. Pretentious asshole, he's really living up to that name, "And it seems like," He reached down on my desk and picked up my name plate that also held my title as assistant to the editor-in-chief, "We're going to be working very closely with one another, (Y/n)." He dropped it back down and it hit the desk and almost fell to the floor, but Alex caught it and gently put it back in its place.

"We are?" I asked in surprise, does this mean I'm not getting fired?

He chuckled, "Obviously, you will be my assistant after-all. I like my coffee black by the way," Like your soul, "And no later than seven am."

I furrowed my brows, "But I don't start until eight." In fact, everyone starts at either eight or nine, minus the finance department and a few janitors who may come in earlier.

"Not anymore, Monday morning you will be here with me at seven." He said with a smile I could only describe as wicked, "Understood?"

I took in a deep breath and slowly nodded as I clenched my jaw, "Yes Mr.Skywalker."

He waved off my formal words, "Sir will do just fine, I know my name can be such a mouthful." He smirked, "We'll discuss more soon. But in the meantime I'm going to make my rounds and introduce myself to everyone. There are refreshments for Fred's retirement party that my Mother and I provided in the conference room, please feel free to indulge in them." He glanced down at the cake in my desk and I could tell he was holding a laugh, "You can put that in there too if you'd like, but I doubt anyone would want to touch it. Did you buy it for ten dollars from your local grocery store?"

Oh what I would give to slap the smug look off of his face. I'm pretty sure this is the quickest I have ever hated anyone. And that's the only word I could use to describe how I feel about this man — hate.

"Actually," I picked up the cake that I knew Fred would appreciate despite its appearance, "I got it from Fred's favorite bakery and if you're wondering why it looks like this, it's because some a—" I stopped myself before I called him that insult again, "Some gentleman," I corrected with my sweetest, fake smile, "Cut me off in the parking lot, so I had to hit my brakes to avoid an accident and this cake was collateral damage."

He held our eye contact, before he glanced back down at it, "Sorry," He said, catching me off guard. I opened my mouth to say something, but he spoke before I could, "That you're a slow driver." He winked before spinning on heels and making his rounds with the employees like he said he would, giving them his charming smile to hide his slithering tongue.

"That mother—" I took a step towards him, preparing to throw this cake into his face. But Alex and Talia held me back, "He'll be lucky if I don't put cyanide in his coffee."

"Sweetie you're not going to commit murder," Talia patted my shoulder.

"I know," I groaned, "But it's a nice thought."

"Come on he's not that bad," Alex shrugged, earning him a glare from me, "What? He didn't fire you, so that has to mean something."

I rolled my eyes, mainly because I had no response. So I held the cake in my palms and proceeded to walk to the conference room. As soon as I reached the door, it was opened for me and I looked to thank who it was, noticing it was Fred, "Darling I wish to speak to you for a moment," He gestured for me to enter the room that was still empty, aside from the food and drinks on the long table.

"Of course," I entered and set the dessert down, before turning to face my boss.

"Listen," He sighed as he placed his hand in his pockets after closing the door, "I just want to say how sorry I am if I got your hopes up. But she already had her mind made up before I was even able to recommend you."

I smiled to hide the disappointment I felt over the situation, but I didn't blame him in any way, "You don't have to apologize, I already knew it was a maybe and not a definite yes."

"I still wanted to give my apologies, I know how much you wanted it, and you definitely deserved it. But Shmi thinks giving Anakin more responsibility will help him grow up," He rolled his eyes, "And I've known him since he was a boy and I have a lot of love for him. He's a good kid and has a good heart. But lately he's been a typical selfish bachelor who needs to take a step back and reevaluate the choices he makes. He's twenty-seven, but acts like he's still in high school," He shook his head with a sigh, and I couldn't help but wonder exactly what kind of skeletons this Anakin Skywalker has in his closet.

"Sounds like I should probably start looking for a new job," I joked, "He may just look for a model to take my place." Like any bachelor would.

Fred smiled, "That won't be necessary. I still spoke to Shmi about you and she has made it clear to Anakin that you will remain in your position. Unless you quit yourself or violate corporate policy of course, but we all know that won't be an issue."

Well that explains why I still have a job.

"So don't worry, your job is still yours." He assured me.

"Thank you," I smiled. Even with him not being here, it's nice to know he still has my back.

He nodded as approached the table and glanced down at the cake. He then raised his brows and looked at me, "What happened here?"

I awkwardly chuckled, "Well, funny story that kind of involves my new lovely boss."

His expression dropped with a sigh, "What did that boy do now?"

"Leaving so soon?" A hand blocked the elevator doors from closing, causing them to open and revealing the one person I did not want to see.

I stopped myself from rolling my eyes and glared into Anakin's blue gaze that might actually be mesmerizing if I didn't know the kind of person he really is. He's a beautiful man, it's impossible not to notice, but that doesn't excuse the entitled attitude he's been displaying since the second I met him. Even for the rest of the party I heard him making snarky remarks towards me.

"I have a doctors appointment to get to that Fred already knows about," I reached forward to press the button for the parking level once again, "I'll be back before one." It was currently ten, so I had more than enough time to get to my appointment and come back in a decent amount of time.

He stopped the doors from closing again with a smirk, "For future reference, make your appointments during your off hours or your days off."

I narrowed my eyes, having more confidence around him now that I know that his mommy told him he can't fire me—he doesn't need to know I know that though, "No," I said bluntly, causing a look of surprise to overcome his features, "My off days are the weekends and my doctors office is closed on weekends, and the days I do work I'm off around the time they close. So this is my only option and I will continue to do it as needed."

He pushed his tongue to the inside of his cheek, his eyes holding annoyance, "You do know that I am your boss now and I can fire you, so you really should start learning to talk to me with some respect."

I couldn't help but smile, "Okay boss. Monday morning when I walk out of this elevator with your black coffee, fire me." This untouchable feeling that I have is sensational.

He didn't say anything for a moment, and it looked like he was in deep thought. And then, he smiled a smile that mimicked mine, "No, I won't fire you." He removed his hand from the door and adjusted his gray suit jacket by buttoning a middle button, "But you're going to wish I did. Have a great rest of your day Ms.(Y/l/n)." He smirked devilishly just as the doors closed and the elevator began to descend.

I leaned my back against the cold metal with a familiar feeling of dread as I realized something. My only two options out of this job are violating my contract—which won't happen—and me quitting.

And he knows this, meaning... he may not be able to fire me, but he's sure as hell going to make my life hell in order to get me to quit a job that I absolutely love.

So it's safe to say that this just turned into a war.
