It was another day in the Squirrel scouts camp, Pink got up to freshen up by the creek and go on with her daily chores
She sat by the creek and washed her face with the water and looked at her reflection
She sighed and got back up to head back to the camp grounds
Something was bothering the poor bunny and she wasn't sure what it was
All she could think of was spending her free time isolating from the other campers, as they weren't really nice to her
But not even the thought of having time for herself was enough to push away this gut feeling of dread
Pink sighed again as she headed back to the camp grounds only to be met with Patsy
Pink didn't want to deal with any drama from her, but Patsy didn't show any signs of letting her off the hook today
Patsy: why the long face? Something bugging you Cotton tail? She asks while putting her hands on her hips
Pink: I don't even know, please just leave me alone... tries to walk around her
Patsy: not so fast! I think I know what's wrong, you're afraid that you're too boring and weird for Lazlo
Pink: freezes n-no! That's not it at all!
Patsy: don't deny it, it's obvious he only hangs out with you cause he wants to be friends with everyone, but just remember that only one girl can be his, and that's me!
Pink: I don't know if he thinks the same way, just let me-
Patsy: and how do you know?? I highly doubt Lazlo would ever tell anyone his personal feelings towards things crosses her arms
Pink: have you ever tried to?
Patsy: ... glares at her that's non of your concern, just keep your distance from him Pinky sharply turns around and walks away
Pink: sighs I need to get my chores done, I want to be alone already walks to begin her chores
A few hours later...
Pink finishes hanging the newly washed uniform and sighs in relief
Pink: finally done... now I can go to the forest and relax... walks out the laundry room and heads to the forest
She walks for a while until she's certain she's far from view
She sets up a few logs in a pile and sets some stones in a circle
Pink: there, now all I need to do is just get the fire started once the sun goes down
She sits on a bigger log and eases her mind
The forest ambience and soft wind slowly relax her and all the stress soon fades away
Suddenly she hears a noise from behind her
Pink: hm? Looks behind her
She didn't see anyone at first, but when she turned around, she was shocked to see Lazlo standing by the log pile
Pink: Gah!! Falls back Don't do that!
Lazlo: sorry heh, I noticed you were walking here so I thought I could join you smiles
Pink: gets back up and sits back down oh, sure
Lazlo walks and sits besides her
Pink: sighs and tries to relax again
Lazlo: something wrong? Glances at her
Pink: I don't know, I've been kinda bothered about something but I can't figure out why, it's like there's something missing...
Lazlo: you had lunch right?
Pink: no it's not that looks away like, I feel maybe this forest isn't enough to really show how beautiful it can be
Lazlo: oh thinks
Pink: it's already nice to look at in the day, but sometimes I feel at night it isn't as appreciated cause it's so dark, other than the campfires I would build
Pink looks at the floor and ponders when Lazlo suddenly gets up
Lazlo: I think I know what to do, think you can meet me here around midnight?
Pink: looks at him huh? Why?
Lazlo: you'll see, trust me, you'll love it! Smiles
Pink: oh, well, ok
Lazlo: alright, see you tonight! Runs off
Pink watches him run back to camp and wonders
Pink: thinks what is he going to show me? Hm, guess I'll find out later tonight
Some time goes by and Pink decides to leave the forest early since she didn't think staying would make a different in her mood
She headed back to Acorn Flats and sat by a cabin where she usually hides away from the other campers
Her mind was still curious about what Lazlo told her, but the thought soon left her mind when Patsy found her hiding
Patsy: huh, didn't think you'd be here, usually you're back by bedtime puts her hand on her hip
Pink: I got bored so I came back, what's the big deal?
Patsy: oh nothing nothing, but are you sure it's cause you were extra lonely cause Lazlo didn't show up?
Pink was about to reply but she didn't want Patsy to know about her and Lazlo meeting up that night
So she sighed and gave in to her guess, despite it being wrong
Pink: sighs ok so he didn't show up, but he was probably busy with his cabin friends, it's not everyday I expect him to show up
Patsy: sure sure, well, I'll be off, maybe I'll pay him a visit myself and I'm certain he'll be happier to see me than you! Walks away
Pink: ugh... rests her head on her arms and looks away I really hope whatever he's going to show me tonight will help me forget this awful gut feeling...
Time goes by and eventually the sun goes down and all the Squirrel scouts are sent to their cabins for the night
Pink fell asleep around sunset and wasn't aware of the time until she noticed the moon rising
Pink: huh? Nighttime already? Oh no I hope I'm not late... she quickly gets up and quietly sneaks away from the camp grounds
Pink walks down the cross way path and arrives at the fork where one path leads to the forest, and the other leads to Camp Kidney
Pink: looks around hm, not here, guess I'm early
She walks towards the forest and sits on the log from earlier
The darkness loomed around her as the moonlight barely shined through the thick trees
Pink looked around for anything but couldn't see through any of the darkness
Suddenly she hears a sound behind her again and turns to see Lazlo walking towards her
Pink: oh you're here, I was afraid you forgot..
Lazlo: nah, I didn't forget, just had to grab something walks past the log and sits next to her
Pink: now what did you want to show me? Looks at him
Lazlo: well, you know how sometimes we spend nights roasting marshmallows in the campfire while having a conversation?
Pink: yeah, what about it?
Lazlo: well, what if I told you that we didn't need a campfire to light the forest up?
Pink: huh?
Lazlo: watch looks towards the open area of the forest
Pink looks as well and waits
Suddenly, they both see a small dot of light glowing, followed by another, and another
The dots glowed a warm yellow color and flew around the area
Pink: whoa... wait a minute... are those...?
Lazlo: fireflies, I found out they come out around midnight if there's no light sources, I thought it was cool gazes at the fireflies flying around
Pink: whoa... it's... beautiful... gazes as well
The two sat in silence at they watched the fireflies light up the area
One firefly flew close to Pink and landed on her nose
Pink froze in her seat and stared at the glowing insect as it lit up her face
Lazlo notices from the corner of his eye and smiles before adjusting himself in his seat
As he does so, he places his hand on top of Pink's paw and continues watching the fireflies
Pink noticed the sudden feeling of something on her hand, and glanced to see Lazlo holding her paw
Pink: thinks wh-... he's... she stared at their hands resting on the log and she suddenly felt heated and nervous
Pink felt her face turn red as she tried to stay calm
She noticed how happy Lazlo looked and she didn't want to ruin the mood
Pink relaxed as best as she could before gazing back at the fireflies
Lazlo: it's pretty isn't it? I wanted to show someone but I didn't know who, I wanted it to be someone special
Pink: o-oh... wait so... you chose-
Lazlo: nods yep, i was hoping this could make you feel better from earlier today
Pink: Aw, that's nice of you, it really did smiles a bit
Lazlo: I'm glad it did leans on her a bit, still watching the glowing bugs
Pink froze again before relaxing and leaning her head on his shoulder
They sat in silence again, taking in the moment
Pink never felt so happy, relaxed, and free from stress, as if this moment has cured her awful gut feeling
The two weren't sure how much time passed, but it was a long while until the two eventually feel asleep as the fireflies stopped glowing and flew back to their homes
The morning sun rose and the brightness of the day was enough to wake Pink up
Pink: hm...? What happened...? She lifted her head only to feel something heavy on her
She glanced beside her to see Lazlo still asleep next to her
Pink was about to scream when she used every last amount of energy to stay quiet to not disturb him
Pink: thinks oh no, did I just spend a whole night in the forest, with Lazlo?!?
She glanced at him again before turning red again
Pink never felt so nervous about being this close to her best friend, let alone spending an entire night with him
She glanced at the sun rising and the forest slowly lighting up
Strangely, Pink slowly started to feel less nervous as she took in the morning sunrise, and soon relaxed at the beautiful scenery
She slowly leaned back onto Lazlo and smiled a bit
Pink started to purr a bit, feeling comfortable with the moment, until she realized that it woke up Lazlo
He sat up and rubbed his eyes before noticing where he was
Lazlo: oh, I wasn't thinking I'd fall asleep here glances beside him and sees Pink
Pink: y-yeah.. sits up as well and adverts her eyes
Lazlo: smiles did you sleep well?
Pink: nods mhm
Lazlo: that's good pats her I think we should head back to camp before we get in trouble though
Pink: yeah, I mean, I'm kinda used to being away from my camp for long periods of time, though I don't want to keep you for any longer, I don't want you to get in trouble either
Lazlo: alright, well I'll see you later hugs her and nuzzles her a bit
Pink freezes up again and turns red
Lazlo then let's her go and walks back to the camp, giving her a final friendly smile before disappearing into the trees
Pink watched him leave and sighed
Pink: oh boy... now I know why Patsy is so crazy over him... glances at her paw still sitting in the same spot where Lazlo held it
Pink then noticed something on the grass
She took a closer look and saw that it was a flower
She first thought that it wasn't anything special when she remembered Lazlo talking about grabbing something before coming to her
Pink: thinks was that flower meant for me...? She turns red again
She grabbed it and gazed at it
It was a pretty blue color with a yellow center
Pink couldn't help but smile before looking back at the sun rise and remembering what she saw that night
After a while, Pink heads back to the camp so she could start with her new daily chores, lost in deep thought as she walked
She returned just in time, the other campers were just waking up and beginning their daily tasks
Pink walked by one of the cabins and was stopped by Patsy who was walking out the door
Patsy: well you look different today, are you trying to stay happy despite Lazlo ignoring you?
Pink: no, just in a good mood walks past her still smiling
Patsy: ... thinks something is obviously going on, she wouldn't normally be this happy... unless...
Patsy then growls and stomps away, knowing that Pink possible did spend time with Lazlo, despite Patsy's warnings
Pink returned to her chore station and began with her task, still thinking about that night in the forest, possibly being the best night Pink ever experienced
And she could thank Lazlo for it
