*Readers pov*
Spring. Beautiful.
I don't have my big puffy coat but my usual cloak and longsleeve.
You: How many months has it been since winter?
Joel: Too many. Why?
Ellie today is moping, quiet and something is bothering her. To our surprise something has her excited as we run through the building trying to catch up.
In the end, a giraffe is eating leaves right next to us.
Joel and Ellie pet it.
Ellie: So fucking cool.
I reach my hand over, it licks my hand with its long purple tongue.
You: Fucking ew.
I wipe my hand on Ellies face.
Ellie: Fucking ew!
She giggles and wipes it off with her shirt.
It leaves.
We catch up, going upstairs and outside again. Seeing many giraffes walking.
I lay against railing, looking
Joel: So...this is everything you were hoping for?
Ellie: It's got it's ups and downs. But...you can't deny the view. Beautiful...
You: Beautiful.
I look at her as she looks in my eyes.
She pulls down my bandanna. She looks at my lips and back at me again.
Ellie: You know, the scar does look good on you.
You: Thanks. You're still ugly.
She elbows me as I chuckle.
Joel: Ellie, you know it doesn't have to be like this.
Ellie: What other choice is there? We haven't done all of this for nothing.
She walks through the door.
*Timeskip*
We go through a water flowing path so we can get to the hospital. This underground is made for trains but the current is so strong that if I got sweeped into this, I'd not out-swim it.
I catch Ellie as we continue on some Vent shafts.
Ellie jumps on a bus thats on its side, I follow and behind me Joel too.
Ellie: Oh- Shit.
The whole bus shakes as the current sweeps us as a whole, being ontop of the bus.
Joel: Run, you two!
Me and Ellie make it to the end but the platform breaks upon Joel as he falls down due to the collapsing doors on the bus.
You: Fuck, I'm going to go get him.
Ellie: Are you crazy, you son of a bitch?! No!
You: I have to!
Ellie: Let's go through the side and help him!
She points.
You: Good idea!
We run accorss the platform and I line myself up with the doors that I see Joel pinned against the current.
I leap and land as Ellie follows behind. We are riding the water slowly as all 3 of us try and rip the doors from it's stuck position.
You: Fucking open!
I punch the door repeatedly.
It slams down as it sends Joel down underwater.
I feel the whole bus drop a bit, knowing it will all fall down.
You: Ellie. Hold tight and hold your breath.
Joel: Listen and hold Y/N tight!
He repeats from under us.
I reach my hand for Ellie but the whole bus falls underwater as we are submerged in water with the current flying us forward.
I see Ellie underwater, struggling, as I quickly swim towards her.
I swim and see her finally stop moving as the current just swings her slowly.
I grab onto her and raise her to the surface
You: Fuck, don't die on me.
I do CPR, connecting our lips, putting my hands on her chest and in a rhythm putting my strength in pressing her chest. I repeat as Joel appears behind me.
???: Hands in the air!
2 men point guns at us.
You: Come on, Ellie. Wake up!
I continue.
???: HANDS IN THE FUCKING AIR!
One FireFly comes over, swinging his bat in my face.
I black out.
*Timeskip*
I wake up slowly.
I'm in a room as I sit up on a couch.
Marlene: Hey, Cutter.
I see Joel on the table, knocked out too.
Marlene is on a chair.
I don't mind the man with an AR at the door.
You: Fucking hell...
I stand up, feeling the bruise.
You: Marley, hey.
Marlene: Hah, FireFlyHunter, don't go greeting people here. They recognize you and don't like you. Just like me.
You: Don't act that you're unhappy to see me.
Marlene: It's been months.
She stands up, hugging me.
Marlene: Fuck, did you get even taller?
You: Where's Ellie?
Marlene: Safe. In care.
You: How does it look?
Marlene: With Ellie?...That's something I have to discuss with Joel. Not like you'll care.
You: I care about Ellie.
I stand my ground.
Marlene: Oh, girlfriend, huh? Should have saw that coming, two horny teens and all...
You: Funny. Now, where is she?
Marlene: You haven't gotten soft, right? You're still a murderer, killer, ruthless. Right?
You: What can be diffrent? Answer the question.
Marlene: She's ok!
You: Fine. My bag.
The man with the AR looks at her, she nods.
He passes me the bag.
???: Watch out, FireFlyHunter.
You: Or what?
He shuts up.
Marlene: Go on, Beck.
He hands me 2 Desert Eagles and a Karambit.
I put it in my bag. I zip it up, not satisfied.
You: The reward feels shit. I need to see Ellie-
Marlene: I understand, we'll bump it up.
She hands me a guitar.
Marlene: A cherry on-
You: Thanks...This is better than getting a weapon.
Marlene: You really have changed.
I put it on my back and stays still due to the backpack squishing it to my back.
Marlene: I'm sorry...I was scared you would change so until we figure something out...I'm sorry.
You: What do you mean?
Marlene: Remember, you always are like a brother to me.
You: Marlene. No.
Marlene: There's no other way. I can't tell you, you wouldn't understand, you'll drink until your body shuts down like always.
You: I don't understand.
Marlene: She's too important.
She points a pistol at me and shoots, a tranquil dart connects to my throat.
You: Marlene...Why?...Why?...
I drop.
???: Finally.
The scenery is an orange sunset, on a bridge.
The person on the tall bridge is at the edge of the railing, the water under sounds deep.
Collision at this height is crippling and deadly.
You:...Oh, I remember this.
The memory of this place fill my mind.
I walk to the man who's wearing a white cloak thats flying in the wind.
You: Hey.
He looks over at me.
???: Hey.
You: Who are you?
Angel: Your Guardian Angel.
You: Oh...
I don't really believe in this stuff but...am I going crazy?
Angel: You remember this place.
You: I wanted to jump off.
Angel: Why didn't you?
You: I don't know...
I sit down at the ledge.
Angel: It's because, after your actions, you were scared of an afterlife and how you will be judged. If its Jewish, Muslim, Christian...you feared.
You:...I'm going crazy...I'm going insane.
Angel: Do you know the definition of Insanity? It's when you do the thing, over and over again, and expect a diffrent outcome.
You:...So this isn't insanity but craziness.
Angel: Trust in Gods plan, although you don't trust in him, he loves you and always will.
You: So you came here to preach? Because I'd like to be alone.
He chuckles.
Angel: As you wish, I just wanted to say, everything will be okay.
You:...Can I ask one question?
Angel: Sure.
You: Why did God do this? All of this? Why didn't he do something?
Angel:...Oh, Son...
He sits next to me.
Angel: God didn't do any of this. It was the mankind, experimenting against nature.
You: Why didn't he prevent this?
Angel: He can't choose what will happen for what you decide to do. Your actions, is not his to clean up.
You: Sad truth...
Angel: Bible isn't all sunshine and rainbows, and if you dislike God for that...try and understand the bigger meaning.
He begins fading away.
You: Wait!
Angel: Until we meet again, my brother. Remember, it will all be okay.
He dissapears.
