"Hey momma! Momma!" A little girls voice rang out through my head, "Momma come quick." The little girl yelled anxiously.
"Okay okay, darling. What is it?" It was a younger womans voice now. Her voice sweet and soft like velvet. As if every word she has ever spoken was with kindness, love and compassion. As if she'd never said a lie in her life.
That's when my black mind, starts to become an image.
A little girl with boy short black hair, running around in what seemed to be a robe of white fabric, wrapped around her tiny waste and little shoulders, a gold medal with a black diamond jewel in the middle of it, keeping it held together. She was tiny, barely taller than a young todler.
Her eyes were a beautiful light purple eyes.
She was me. Small..fragile, and weak.
Her... My name, Lallil Pharoah.
I was chasing a blue butterfly, that had flown free from my jar.
My bare feet padded against the cold tile of my room. We had a Pharaohs home, being a rich noble family in Egypt, we had the best of everything.
Finally coming into the picture was the woman I knew as my mother. Her hair barely touched her shoulders, and was the darkest of blacks, so black that it looked like you were looking into a black hole. Her eyes a light pale yellow-orange. She stood at a height of 5'8, and was very lean.
Her name was Karleen Pharaoh.
"Darling where have you run off to?" She had her hands cupping around her mouth, so that her voice projected louder.
A strong gust of wind had pushed a cloud of smoke over our home, and throughout the open house.
The butterfly that I was once chasing had disappeared from my sight, and I stopped running. I took a deep breath, and choked on the thick black smoke.
"Momma! Momma!" I panicked and turned back to the house and started running.
My mother sat there on the tiled floor, her back to me and pleading with a man who stood over her.
Her hands were held above her in a weak position of defense.
The man only stood there; body shrouded in black clothing, and face covered up to the bridge of his nose. The only skin that I could actually see, was the slit to show his... No, her green eyes.
The woman swiftly pulled out her Katana and twirled it a few times in her fingers. Her right leg moved back and she stood in a fighting stance.
She brought the blade up near her face; both hands holding it, and spun quickly, bringing the blade down to my mother's open chest. The sword slashed open her skin; so deep, that it most likely cut against the rib bones.
The only thing I could even think of doing, was allowing my eyes to squeeze shut, and my mouth to fall open to let an ear piercing scream escape my lips.
Suddenly the picture faded, and my Mind was drawn blank once again...
"Wake up.." a quiet but anxious voice sounded through out my flashback.
"Wake up." The voice came again, but much clearer.
"Wake up!" A slam sounded throughout my head, and I quickly sat up.
Pain surged through my body, after an ache took its place.
"Ahhh... Shit." I go to reach my head, where a painful headache came to mind. My hands stopped a few centimeters off the table, and I looked down.
My hands had been handcuffed to the table. Cuffs that engulfed my entire forearm and up to my elbows, just my half my hands were shown. They were melded to the table that also was melded to the floor.
I look to the floor, to find my feet to be encase from half of my foot up to my knees, again; melded to the floor.
"The precautions you make for me to be comfortable, and unable to go anywhere." I sigh and realize that something was off. Literally something was off.
I looked to the other side of the table to find that Batman and Robin where sitting across from me.
Batman; scowling as usual, and not taking his eyes off of me, and Robin. He was standing next to the Dark Knight, and was fondling with my mask.
"Heat vision, x-ray vision, insulation built in.. this thing has everything!" Robin suddenly blurted out.
"That's not even the coolest part." I remark, and look at the mask he held, " Chien Noir." The diamond on the mask glowed a dull black. Almost immediately the mask retracted and folded, and folded up and around the black diamond.
"Not ahhh...now I'm overwhelmed." He chuckled and tossed it around in his hands. "Its light too!"
I only nodded, then laughed lightly, "good for when on the run." I bite my tongue and mentally scold myself.
"I meant from the crime scene." God I suck at explanations.
"Who are you?" Batmans gruff voice boomed throughout the interrogation room, interrupting me and the Boy Wonders conversion.
"You already know that question.. Unless you're talking about my 'secret identity'." I shrug and stare down the B' Man.
"Tell us." He ordered.
"No. And you won't find anything, on me. You may find photos, but never a name." I say bluntly and look down at my encased arms. I impatiently tap my fingers of the table, as if I had somewhere to be at that very moment.
"Why?" He barks.
"I don't answer to you." I don't give him the answer he was expecting.
But that answer didn't seem to phase him. He steps forward and places a gloved hand on the boys shoulder.
Robin; still playing with my traveling sized mask, looks up from the distraction.
"Go home." Was all he had to say, to get Robin up and walking out the room.
It's a good thing he never looked at my face, never know when I may see him, when I'm out being a civilian.
Once the door had closed and the sound of it locking, Batman seemed to be pleased.
He sat across from me, earning a semi-shocked face from me. For what seemed like hours; which was really only ten minutes, he spoke.
"What made you choose the life of crime?" His voice held anger, but had a smig of simpathy, just a smig no more than that.
"What makes you think that I; Anubis, would answer such a overly used question like that?" My purple eyes had gone from surprised look, to a borish one.
"So many people have asked you this question?" He seemed kinda pissed now from my smart ass remark.
"Yes, but they are all gone." I say with a yawn.
His eyes widened for a very brief moment, "you killed them."
He seemed to already know the answer since his reply wasn't in a questioning tone.
"Do you not know what an assassin is?" Scoffing I roll my eyes, and look at him underneath half my bangs.
"Those people had family, they had a life to live!" He slammed his fist onto the table.
"Everyone has a family at one point." I sigh and tap my fingers on the table.
As Batman removed his fist from the table, a dent took it's place; a deep dent.
"Struck a nerve I see."
By the time I finished my remark, a hand had enclosed itself around my throat.
Eyes wide and feeling taken back I gasp out of surprise.
"I take that as a yes." I stutter out and give a small but mocking smile up at the cowl covered face.
The grip only tightened as I mocked the man.
The clasps on the door clicked open, allowing it to swing open with a bang to the metal wall.
Black Canary and Flash rushed in pulling Batmans hand from my bruising throat.
"Stop it now Batman you aren't like her." Canary demanded and gave the man a pleading look.
Hearing her plead, he looked away from my distraught face and gave a grimace. His face twisting from anger to a neutral frown that he always wore.
"Flash take her to the holding cells, I'm not yet finished with her." And with that, the Dark Knight turned and left out the door, his cape flying behind him.
"Some anger issues he's got." I mumble and look up at the Flash.
Earning the two other heroes to look down at me with such hatred, it almost made me flinch; almost.
Flash took a few strides toward me and pulled out some sort of collar.
Oh shit... those were the collars from Bell Reve.
"That's not needed. I'm not a metahuman." I scooted in my chair as much as I could. But the restraints on both my legs and arms, stopped me.
"I'll take Robin's word over yours." Within a second the collar was around my neck, with the light red.
"Dammit you fool." I snapped and tried getting my hands out of their cell.
"I'm no animal!"
"Going by the name you gave us, I'd say you are; Anubis." Flash only smirked and looked over to the blond haired woman.
"The ancient black dog right?" She questioned.
With a growl from my throat, I looked away from the two heroes and nodded, "Yeah the Black Dog.."
And with that they released my arms and legs and got me into a cell.
