Y/N sits deep in thought in the library with Hermione by her side, already busily scribbling down answers on a piece of parchment. The Ravenclaw had a lot to think about and had spent the last few hours stuck in her own thoughts.
She though about the possibility of her cousin being a death eater, Voldemort being back and how awfully quiet he's been which isn't a good sign. Also the nagging pain in her scar wasn't helping and she still needed a place where she can practise her wandless magic in secret. It was a lot to think about.
"Y/N are you alright" Hermione says placing a comforting hand on her girlfriend's arm who flinches as she is taken out of her thoughts
"Huh, yeah" the Ravenclaw responds "I'm just-"
"focusing on something else" Hermione says with an understanding smile on her lips. At that moment Y/N stomach starts to grumble and the Gryffindor girl laughs "hungry?"
"It seems so" Y/N chuckles "sorry we're you going to ask me something"
"No, I'll figure it out later" Hermione replies
Y/N rolls her eyes "what's the question"
"I'm trying to figure out what ingredient I'm missing to make the Confusing Concoction" Hermione says and Y/N looks over at her parchment
"you know the answer" the Ravenclaw says encouragingly "but if you want I can-"
"No I don't need help" Hermione interrupts and stares at the parchment, as if it's about to burst into flames at any moment.
Y/N chuckles. She finds her girlfriends determination cute "It's scurvy grass"
Hermione huffs and writes the answer down "thank you"
"Your welcome my love" Y/N replies and her stomach rumbles once more causing both girls to laugh "okay now can we go I'm hungry"
Hermione smiles and stands, packing her belongings "alright let's go get some food in you"

The great hall was filled with students, all laughing and joking with friends as they eat the feasts displayed on the four tables. Y/N and the group all sit at the Gryffindor table talking about the recent events of this week. Y/N however barely touches her food, only eating enough to calm her restless stomach and zoned out once again.
"So how's Katie doing" Ron asks and Harry sighs
"she's still in the hospital wing" the raven-haired boy says "Apparently she's doing a lot better"
"Will she be back for quidditch" Jorden asks and Harry shakes his head
"I don't think so" Harry says "at least not the first game"
Flo huffs and takes a small bite of her salad "Why would someone curse her and try giving the necklace to Dumbledore"
"True, the thing looks ghastly, no one would bloody wear it" Cal says "It definitely doesn't fit the headmasters wardrobe"
"And how would you know what the headmasters style is" Ron says and the Slytherin boy smirks
"Because Ron, the gays know how to dress themselves rather fashionably" Cal replies
"Are you telling me the Professor Dumbledore is gay" Flo says a little shocked and Cal smirks
"Professor Dumbledore isn't gay," Ron says "I just thought he was one of those wizards who didn't date anyone"
"Well he was born in a time were being gay was seen as a crime" Jorden says and Hermione nods
"It would make sense for him to not exactly boast his sexuality around like two people I know" Hermione says Cal grins
"What can I say Granger, Y/N and I are the best people you know" Cal says
"A little arrogant of you ask me" Harry says
"Okay Mr Chosen One" Cal says and Harry chucks a piece of bread at the Slytherin boy
"Anyways Y/N spends the most time with Dumbledore to know he's gay, don't you Y/N" Cal says
Everyone looks to the Ravenclaw girl but she doesn't respond. She's still deep in thought not paying the others any attention.
"Uhh Y/N" Jorden says a little concerned for his friend but suddenly, the Ravenclaw jumps from her seat with a grin on her face.
"Oh my god, I'm a genius" Y/N says and her friends look at her oddly "guys I'm a fucking genius"
"She's gone crazy" Ron's says and Flo giggles
"No kidding" Flo says
Hermione rolls her eyes at the two of them then turns to Y/N "why are you a genius of my love"
"I've figured it out" Y/N says taking her seat and the others lean in close.
"who the Half-blood prince is" Hermione asks and Y/N shakes her head
"No-" the Ravenclaw starts
"who cursed Katie" Jorden says
"No-"
"That Dumbledore is gay," Flo says and Y/N laughs
"Oh Albus Dumbledore is one of the gayest wizards I know," Y/N says "But no I've figured out-"
"the cure for your anxiety," Cal says and Y/N sighs
"I wish but no. Now can you all just shut up and listen to me" the Ravenclaw says and everyone nods, listening intensely "I've figured out a place to practise my wandless magic"
"so where," Harry says with an excited expression and Y/N smirks
"Harry, I'm going to be needing that invisibility cloak"

"Y/N are you sure about this" Hermione says underneath the invisibility cloak with Y/N following her out of the castle
"Nope" Y/N responds and keeps walking forward and into the courtyard. Thankfully the night was still and calm, however, it was still so cold that the two girls wore long coats to keep warm.
"You're sure you tried the room of requirement," Hermione asks and Y/N nods
"Yes it's just full of junk and there's no space" the Ravenclaw replies. She can tell her girlfriend is a little anxious about where we are going but Y/N hopes that Hermione will come around eventually.
"but you can-"
"Hermione whatever your thinking I've tried, it's still the same room every time," Y/N says and Hermione sighs
"So you decide to go to the shrieking shack," the Gryffindor says nervously as they approach the path that leads to Hagrid's hut.
"We've been there before and it's pretty much my safest option" Y/N like it's the most obvious answer in the world "its practically empty so we have room to cast spells, no one will see us 'cause it's far enough from the castle and we can easily get there through the tunnel in the whomping willow. Also an added bonus, we have Harry's invisibility cloak too"
"Darling I think you're forgetting what happened last time we encountered the whomping willow," Hermione says as they approach the large tree and Y/N laughs as memories of third year come rushing back.
"Oh I haven't forgotten which is why I sent an owl to Remus asking how he managed to get through unharmed," Y/N says and takes the invisibility cloak of them and casts lumos from her wand. She points at something on the tree placing an arm around Hermione's waist. "you see that small weird-looking knot near the base of the teee"
"Yeah" Hermione replies
"We need to hit that, then the tree will be immobilised," Y/N says
"Right," Hermione says "I would suggest-"
"Cast a spell and hit it" Y/N finishes and Hermione smiles and nods "already a few steps ahead of you my love"
Y/N uses her free hand to cast Accio and a small rock land in her hand instantly. Hermione's eyes widen as she has never seen her girlfriend use wandless magic before. The Ravenclaw smirks and lets go of the rock in her hand, extending her arm and sending the rock flying through the air. The rock hits the knot perfectly and the willow stands eerily still.
"Wow" is all Hermione could manage to say "you weren't kidding when you said wandless magic comes easily to you"
"Dumbledore's lessons helped," Y/N says and takes Hermione's hand "now come on let's go"

The two girls spent time practising blocking and using spells, of course with Y/N not using her wand. Hermione was amazed by her girlfriend's capabilities that she sometimes got carried away with asking questions which of course Y/N found adorable but she really needed to practise. After the Gryffindor girl's initial shock, the two practised for a while until they were exhausted.
Y/N blocks the last of Hermione's spells and breathes out deeply. "I think we did pretty good tonight"
"Yeah Y/N what you can do is amazing" Hermione says smiling proudly at her girlfriend "I've never known anyone to produce spells like you can"
"Me neither, I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones," Y/N says and picks up her coat off the ground as well as the invisibility cloak "come on lets get out of here before we freeze"
"I don't want to go back yet" Hermione sheepishly and Y/N stops "I want to ask you something"
"Oh alright then" Y/N says and sits down next to the Gryffindor girl "is everything fine, I mean between us-"
"We're fine Y/N it's nothing bad" Hermione says with a reassuring smile and Y/N sighs of releif "I wanted to tell you that I've decided I'm going to spend the Christmas holidays with my parents this year"
"Oh, so you're not going to the Burrow" Y/N asks and Hermione nods her head
"I've just missed them," Hermione replies referring to her parents "I haven't spent time with my parents as much as I'd like. So I'm just spending this winter break with them-"
Y/N gets up from where she sits and paces "thats fine, its fine you can do whatever you want" she says and Hermione can tell that the Ravenclaw girl is a little annoyed
"Don't be like that Y/N" Hermione sighs and the Ravenclaw frowns
"Like what exactly" Y/N replies a little sharply that makes Hermione wince a little
"Like your annoyed with me," the Gryffindor says rising to her feet "and let me finish before you throw a tantrum"
"I do not throw tantrums" Y/N huffs and Hermione chuckles and takes her girlfriend's hands in her own.
"I was going to ask if you wanted to spend the holidays with my family instead" Hermione says and Y/N's eyes widen with shock
"Oh" the Ravenclaw says "that's not what I was expecting"
Hermione chuckles and kisses Y/N's cheek "I asked my parents when I went to the owlery that one time and I got a reply today. So what do you say"
"I can't," Y/N says with a regretful sigh and sits back down on the ground "I would love to, but I can't. Harry and I- we get really anxious when we don't see each other for more than a day. That's one of the reasons why he tagged along with me and Cal over the summer."
"What do you mean," Hermione says sitting close to her girlfriend placing a comforting hand on her knee. "please, don't shut me out, my love. Tell me what's going on"
"You can't tell anyone this but Harry had a bad panic attack when I was at Callan's for the weekend. The day I went to Italy" Y/N says "I've never really seen him get that bad, he mainly just-"
"Hides it I know" Hermione finishes and Y/N nods "and so do you. I know you struggle to sleep Y/N"
the Ravenclaw chuckles "I thought I was being sneaky"
"You can fool the others but not me" Hermione chuckles "I also know you smoke with Callan on the occasion"
Y/N's eyes widen "How did you find out"
"The sleep one was easy 'cause I don't sleep well when your not next to me. So I wake and find you not there," Hermione says "also the excuses of you getting your assignments done and extra quidditch practise were starting to get old"
Y/N chuckles "and the smoking"
"Jorden told me Cal smokes and that he's seen you smoke with him" Hermione says and Y/N sighs
"right, but you're not made about the smoking thing" the Ravenclaw asks and Hermione sighs
"I don't particularly like it, but I'll tolerate it. As long as you don't do it near me or often" Hermione and Y/N kisses her cheek "they're bad for you"
Y/N sighs "I know"
"Why do you do it anyways" Hermione asks and the Ravenclaw smirks
"I don't know, to look cool" Y/N answers with a smile but Hermione gives her a look
"Y/N be honest," the Gryffindor says and Y/N thinks for a moment
"It helps clear my head" Y/N answers truthfully "I know it sounds weird but- I don't know it just calms my thoughts. The only other time I feel like that is when I'm with you"
Hermione smiles "Okay"
"Also, I haven't smoked since the summer break in case you were wondering," Y/N says "Callan brought his smokes which I'm still surprised they weren't confiscated, but he's never forced me to have one at school-"
"Y/N you're rambling darling," Hermione says, and Y/N stops.
The two girls look at each other before they burst out laughing. They didn't know exactly why, but it felt good, just to laugh at the world without really knowing the reason why. The two girls calmed down and Y/N takes a breath as speaks
"As for the insomnia part, I'm just- afraid" Y/N says and Hermione looks at her with concerned honey-brown eyes
"Afraid" Hermione repeats and Y/N nods, swallowing thickly
"I can't sleep because I'm so paranoid about what happens next. Like what is Voldermorts next move? I worry about Harry, my friends. You. I feel like I need to protect everyone, but I feel like everyone expects so much of me at the same time." Y/N says, her voice wavering and looks into Hermione's eyes "I don't want anyone else to die Hermione. I'm scared I'm so scared-"
"Hey, Y/N its alright," Hermione says embracing the Ravenclaw in a tight hug, hoping to relieve some of her girlfriend's pain. The Gryffindor has always hated seeing Y/N so broken and if she could, she'd wish to carry it herself if it meant her girlfriend would be happy. "You're alright my love"
Y/N softly cries on Hermione's shoulder as she hugs her tightly. Her vanilla-honey scent has always calmed the Ravenclaw girl and today is no exception. Y/N's breathing slowly returns to its normal state and the Ravenclaw slowly pulls away, wiping her eyes "I'm sorry"
"It's alright Y/N" Hermione says softly as she kisses the Ravenclaw's forehead "I'm here, I'll always be here for you whatever you need"
"Thank you," Y/N says softly and Hermione smiles "anyways so thats why I'm going to stay at the burrow. For Harry's sake"
"I understand, even if I'm a little sad about it" Hermione replies and Y/N sighs
"You know I really would've loved to stay-" Y/N starts
"I know, my love. I know" Hermione finishes and leans her head on the Ravenclaw's shoulder. Y/N holds Hermione's hands in her own as they sit in comfortable silence. Suddenly, Y/N has a thought and smirks
"I could spend the day at yours instead" Y/N proposes "a compromise"
Hermione lifts her head off Y/N's shoulder and grins happily "Yeah. Yeah I'd like that, my parents too"
"Okay then," Y/N says and gets up and offers a hand to her girlfriend "now we really should be heading back now"
"you're right," Hermione says and takes the Ravenclaw's hand.
The two exit through the tunnel in the whomping willow and put the invisibility cloak over themselves once more as they head back to the castle.
