Maria P.O.V Mindscape
'Where... Where am I? The last thing that I can remember was fighting Riddle and I completely blacked out.' I thought and I start noticed my surroundings, I was in complete darkness, then suddenly the whole place changed, and I was inside a house
"Happy eighth birthday Riddle. Your birthday cake, this year is a low-sugar, high lecithin cake made with soy flour and nuts" The woman who is Riddle-senpai's mother said as she placed the dis-flavored cake
"That sounds gross. Wait, am I seeing Riddle-senpai's memories?" I wondered to myself, and I saw Riddle-senpai as a child 'Aaaaaaawwwwww!!! Riddle-senpai you look so cute!!!!'
"Thank you, mama. But, ummm.... I.... Just once, I really want to try a tart covered in bright red strawberries..." Little Riddle-senpai said, but his mother didn't look pleased
"How could you say such a thing! That pastry is mound with sugar that's more like poison! One slice will exceed your ideal daily intake of carbohydrates. Today, we're have tuna sautee with plenty of docosahexaenoic and eicosatetraenoic acid. Aah, but at age 8 your ideal caloric intake is less than 600 calories per meal, so don't eat more than 100 grams. Alright?" Riddle-senpai's mother said
"...Yes, mama" Little Riddle-senpai said with a sad look
"What the heck?! She's literally controlling his life! Also, the strawberry tart is not poison, lady! There's nothing wrong about eating something different!" I yelled, but I knew she won't hear me. Then I heard Riddle-senpai's voice
"For so long, a strawberry tart was what I wanted to eat. In cake shops around town, they're display in the window, were tarts look like jewels." Riddle-senpai said as the memory continues
"Let's end your classical magic studies for today. You have until tomorrow to review the magical ethics that you learned today and get through page 50 of your language philosophy text. To the end, I'll give you an hour to study for your next potions lessons" Riddle-senpai's mother said as she put away some books
"Yes, mother" Riddle-senpai said to his mother
"Until tomorrow?! What kind of mother gives a child til the next day to review?! And he has to read through page 50 too?! What the hell man!" I yelled again; I was getting angry at his mother for doing this to him
"Your mother has an errand to run, so I'll be back in an hour" Riddle-senpai's mother said as she started to leave the room
"My every moment was crammed to the brim with every possible discipline. Time spent learning extended until I could do it. But for me, that was normal" Riddle-senpai said, and I felt sad for him
The memory changed again, and it took place in his room. Little Riddle-senpai was reading a textbook, when he heard knocking on his window
"Hm? Someone is knocking at my window?" Little Riddle-senpai went to check to see who it is
"Oh, he came!" At the window was a child version of Trey-senpai 'Cute!'
"Hey, hey. Come play with us!" Another child appeared and he has cat ears 'Aw! I wanna touch his small ears!'
"Who are you?" Little Riddle-senpai asked as he backed away a little and the little child with cat ears grinned and introduced himself
"I'm Che'nya! This is Trey. Let's play croquet" The child named Che'nya said
"Eh... I can't. Right now, is self-study time. I have to keep studying" Little Riddle-senpai said but I can tell he really wants to play with them
"Self-study means that you decide what you study. My grand-paw says playing is a kind of study too" Little Che'nya said with his usual grin
"Will you come down for a bit?" Little Trey-senpai asked politely, and Little Riddle-senpai looks hesitant for a bit
"....J-Just for a bit" Little Riddle-senpai said as he climbed out from his bedroom window, and Little Trey-senpai smiled
"Can I ask your name?" Little Trey-senpai asked
"R-Riddle. Riddle Rosehearts" Little Riddle-senpai introduced himself, and they started to play croquet together
"Playing with Trey and Che'nya was so much fun. I learned new things, played new games. They taught me so much. From that day on, during my self-study time without telling mother, I left my room." The memory shows Little Riddle-senpai by the fountain with Little Trey-senpai and Little Che'nya
"Eh! Riddle, you've never had a strawberry tart?!" Little Che'nya said as his face looked shocked
"Mother says its like poison, so I can't" Little Riddle-senpai said as he looked down
"Well, you probably shouldn't eat too much... My family owns cake shop. Let's go and eat some" Little Trey-senpai said and Little Che'nya looked excited while Little Riddle-senpai looked nervous
"Eh...? But..." Little Riddle-senpai was say more
"One piece will fine" Little Trey-senpai reassured Little Riddle-senpai
"I could go for a whole one right meow" Little Che'nya said as he started to drool, Little Trey-senpai grabbed Little Riddle-senpai's hand and they left to the cake shop
"Atop a pure white plate, a brilliantly red strawberry tart. For me, it shined brighter than any jewel"
"Now I want a strawberry tart" I said while drooling
"The first bite was wonderfully sweet; it was better than anything I'd ever had. I savored each bite and got lost in it." Riddle-senpai said happily, but his mood changed "But... I lost track of time"
The next memory shows his mother getting angry at him
"How could you! You skipped out on studying to go outside and eat a mound of sugar! Those two instigated it. I won't allow you to spend time with those bad children ever again!" His mother yelled, and Little Riddle-senpai clinged onto her dress while crying
"I'm sorry mother! I won't do it again! So please forgive me...!" Little Riddle-senpai begged for forgiveness, and she took her dress out of his grasp
"Silence! This is because you broke the rules! Aah, I should have never given you so much free time. I have to keep an even better watch over you..." His mother said, and I felt my anger starting to boil
"So heartless... She's so heartless!" I yelled
"If I broke the rules, my time for fun was completely taken away. That's why the rules mother makes, I have to follow. In this town, mother is the most respected, that makes her correct. But... tell me mama. Why? Why does my chest hurt like this?" Riddle-senpai said as he clutched his chest and started crying "Just on my birthday would be fine, I want to eat a bunch of tarts. I want to play outside for hours. I want to make more and more friends. Tell me mama, what rules should I follow to make this pain go away?" Riddle-senpai asked as his tears continued to fall from his eyes, I walked towards him and hugged him from behind
"!" Riddle-senpai looked from behind and saw me "Maria...?"
"I have no idea... You suffered so much... Your mother shouldn't make you study so much. She should let you go and play, make friends and eat a lot of delicious tarts." I said hugging him tighter "If I was there, I would never leave your side and try to help you" I felt my tears forming in my eyes "The only rule you should follow is your heart, let your heart decided what's good or bad, what's right or wrong. Don't always listen to what your mother says, you are your own person, it's your life, not hers!"
I felt Riddle-senpai tensed up when he heard my words, he turned around and hugged me back with tears still coming down
"Thank you... Thank you..." Riddle-senpai thanked me and I smiled
"You're welcome, Riddle-senpai" I said and I blacked out again
Riddle P.O.V
I hugged Maria, I thanked her, and I felt her go limp
"Maria...? Maria!" I called out her name, but she didn't respond. Then, the darkness changed
'What's this...?' I looked around, and noticed it was time-square from when I was child. Trey, Che'nya and I were about to leave for the cake shop, when we heard rustling noise coming from the tree nearby 'This memory is new'
"Hm? What's that noise?" Che'nya's ears twitched when he heard the sound, and they started walking towards the tree where the sound was coming from, and in the tree was a little girl with rose blonde hair
"Huh? A girl?" Trey said
"Almost there..." The little girl was reaching out her hand, either she was grabbing something or trying to put something back "I did it!" She said cheerfully, but she lost her grip and fell from the tree branch
"Ah!" She screamed as she fell, the little me ran towards the spot where she was supposed land, the little me became a human cushion to break the fall
"Oh no! I'm so sorry!" The girl apologized to the child me, and I saw my child-self blushing when he looked at the girl. I looked at the girl as well, and realized it was Maria as a child. She has her hair down with a bow tied in the back, she wears red loita dress with some ribbons
"Riddle! Are you okay?!" Trey yelled as he and Che'nya ran towards us, Little Maria got off of my child-self and helped my child-self up from the ground
"Y-Yeah..."
"Meow! Who's you're purr-tty friend Riddle~" Che'nya asked as he looked at Little Maria with flushed look
"U-Um... I-I'm Maria! N-Nice to m-meet you!" Little Maria introduced herself and bowed
"I'm Che'nya~"
"I-I'm Trey"
"R-Riddle..."
We introduced ourselves to Little Maria, and I noticed Trey blushing when he looked at her
"What were you doing up in the tree?" Trey asked
"I was helping a baby bird that fell out from the nest, so I wanted to help it" Little Maria said with a bashful look on her face
"I see. Would you care to join us? We were about to head to my family's cake shop and eat a piece of a strawberry tart" Trey said, and Little Maria's eyes widen with stars
"Strawberry tart! I love anything with strawberries!" Little Maria exclaimed, and it was cute
The memory ended with us and Little Maria heading to the cake shop. I looked down at Maria's unconscious body
"We've met before... But why did I forget about you?" I wondered and I heard someone calling mine and Maria's name
"Riddle! Maria!" Trey called out our names, and started to wake up
Reality~ No One P.O.V
"Riddle!!" Trey called Riddle's name
"Maria!" Ace and Deuce called out Maria's name
Maria was the first one to wake up, but she was still in the form
"Geez, you boys are loud" Maria said as she rubbed her temples and changed back into her normal form
"We were worried about you! You just unconscious after you bit Riddle!" Ace shouted as Maria gently lifted Riddle up and his head rested on Maria's chest. Then, Riddle was starting to wake up, when he opened his eyes, his face went red when he realized his head was on the girl's chest, he jolted up and noticed that it was the same Maria
"I-I'm so sorry!" Riddle apologized as his face turned bright red
"It's alright" Maria said as she giggled
"I'm so glad. He came back to his senses" Crowley said as he felt relieved
"There's no need to think about it now" Trey said as he walked towards Maria and Riddle "Just sleep" Trey said to Riddle
"Uuugh. Of course, he goes berserk after getting a little mad if you're coddling him all the time! The garden is a disaster, and we were in big trouble!" Ace shouted
"It was a crazy situation" Deuce said
"Seriously. Bottling up all your stress isn't admirable" Grim said
Maria helped Riddle stand up, and started to tell everyone his true feelings
"...I ...really wanted to eat that mont blanc" Riddle admitted, and Ace looked at Riddle with a dumb founded look
"The roses are fine being white, and the flamingos are fine being pink. I like putting honey in my tea more than sugar cubes, and I like milk tea more than lemon tea. I want to chat with everyone while we eat..." Riddle said and he started to tear up again
"Riddle..." Trey looked at Riddle with a surprised look
"I wanted to spend more time with Trey and everyone else..." Riddle said and he cried again
"I can't believe it... that Riddle is sobbing like a baby..." Cater said with a shocked look
"Stop that! You're not forgiven just because you're crying!" Ace said with an angry tone
"You really refuse to read the mood..." Deuce sighed
"I'm sorry too. Even though I knew you were suffering, I pretended not to notice" Trey said as Riddle continued to cry "So, I'm going to say it now. Riddle, your way of doing things is wrong. You want to properly apologize to everyone" Trey said
"...Sniff ....I'm sorry.... I'm so sorry...!" Riddle apologized in between crying and sniffling
"There is something I wanted to say to you, if you apologized for everything that happened..." Ace trailed off for a minute "WORDS CAN'T FIX THIS MESS! I'M NOT GONNA FORGIVE YOU LIKE THAT!" Ace yelled making everyone jump
"Eeeeeeeeh!? You're going to say that right now!?" Cater exclaimed
"Who wouldn't! We've been put through the wringer. And he still threw away the mont blanc we put all that time and effort into making. I'm not gonna let him off with a tear-filled apology" Ace said and the Maria walked towards Ace and smacked the back of his head
"Ow! What was that for?!" Ace yelled at Maria
"For being childish" Maria said
"Then... what should I..." Riddle asked as wiped away his tears
"My birthday isn't for awhile." Ace said
"Huh? What are you getting..." Deuce was to say more, but Ace cut him off
"So, I demand we have a Revenge Unbirthday Party. We didn't even get to take part in the last one. And this time, you have to make the tart. Also, no getting help from Trey either! Do it yourself! If you do that, then there's nothing I won't forgive" Ace said and Maria chuckled
"You're not very honest are you Ace?" Maria asked and Ace's face turned red
"Shut up!" Ace yelled at Maria and turned his attention back to Riddle "You got it?"
"...Yeah, I got it" Riddle said, and everyone turned around to see Crowley coming back
"Yes, yes, this is the beauty of compromise. Then, the issue is settled" Crowley said with a smile
"Well then, we should probably get started on cleaning up the garden. Our photogenic garden is in ruins... I'm so sad" Cater said with a sad tone
"I'll help you out" Trey said
"Actually, how about taking Riddle-senpai to the nurse's office?" Maria said
I agree with Miss Maria. Rosehearts needs to be checked out just in case if there's any injuries. I'll escort you there" Crowley said
"Alright. Thank you very much" Trey said as helped Riddle up and he turned to look at Maria "You should come to the nurse's office too, Maria. You did get hit by that root from earlier" Before she could object
"No excuses. Go to the infirmary too" Ace said, an Deuce nodded in agreement
"Sigh... Fine" Maria said as she followed Trey to the nurse's office
Infirmary
The nurse ghost told Trey to lead Riddle to one of the beds, and she'll start to examine him. She examined Riddle first, she checked for any injuries, and found none. She told Riddle to rest for now. She started to examine Maria next, so far Maria only has some scratches and huge bruise on her back, the ghost nurse said Maria needs to rest. Crowley left the infirmary except for Trey who stayed behind
"I'm glad you're alright Riddle" Trey said
"Yeah, I hope Maria recovers from her injures" Riddle said, and he looked up at the ceiling
"Something wrong Riddle?" Trey asked
"Something on your mind?" Maria asked
"W-Well... I had a dream... That I met you before in my childhood" Riddle said
"I... met you before?" Maria asked as she tilt her head to the side and Riddle nodded
"Yeah. Trey also met you" Riddle said and Maria started to think
"Hmmm... Sorry, I'm drawing a blank" Maria said looking sad
"It's alright. I'm sure your memories will return to you some day" Riddle said
"My throat is a bit dry. I should go get something to drink" Maria said as she was about to leave the infirmary, but Trey stopped her
"I'll go get you something to drink. I'll be back with something to drink for the both of you" Trey said as he left the infirmary. Leaving both Maria and Riddle alone
Both of them were silent, then Riddle spokento break the silence
"Maria" Riddle called her out and she turned to lookat him "I... I want to apologize for what I said about your parents... I'm so sorry" Riddle apologized, and Maria smiled softly
"It's okay. I should apologize for yelling, it's very immature of me" Maria said, and Riddle chuckled again
"You're so mysterious you know that. Before I forget, I wish to invite you to the Revenge Unbirthday Party" Riddle said
"Of course, I'll happy to attend" Maria said with a smiled and Riddle's face turned red
While waiting for Trey to come, Riddle and Maria continued to chat like how they're doing in school so far, then Maria started coughing
"Maria! Maria! " Riddle shouted from worry, and Trey came rushing in, Trey opened a bottle of water for Maria, he tried to give some water, and something came out from her mouth. A black rock landed on the bed
"Maria, are you alright?" Trey asked as he patted her back and handed her a bottle of water
"I-I think so" Maria said as she started to drink her water, and she looked down and saw the black rock, she picked it up and started inspecting it "What is this?"
"To be honest with you, I have no idea" Riddle said
"Same here. Maybe the headmaster knows" Trey said
"Guess I should." Maria said as she placed the black rock on the table
Next couple of days~
Maria P.O.V Tea Garden
After resting for the next couple of days, the day of the Revenge Unbirthday Party came, and Cater-senpai made me a new outfit with his magic since the last one had so many tears and rips
Cater-senpai looked so happy about the outfit and started to take pictures of me wearing the new dress and the hat with a ribbon and 2 red and white roses
"Maria-chan, you look absolutely gorgeous!" Cater-senpai took pictures of me in different angles and directions
"Cater-senpai, can you stop taking my picture please?" I said as I felt my face turning red
"Your blushing face is so cute!" Cater-senpai exclaimed as he took another picture of me and hugged me
Then we heard the sound of trumpets, meaning Riddle-senpai is on his way
"Our great leader! The Crimson Ruler! Announcing Dorm Head Riddle!" A Heartlabyul student announced
Dorm Head Riddle! Hip hip hooray!"
The roses are red, the table clothes are white. A perfect Unbirthday Party. Inside the teapot is there a sleeping... Ah! Actually, it's fine without" Riddle-senpai said with a smile, and I couldn't help but smile too
"You don't have to change everything right away. Instead of putting jam on the mouse's nose, try putting it on a scone" Trey-senpai suggested to Riddle-senpai "It's worthless without or it would be nice to have right?"
"Yeah, you're right" Riddle-senpai said
'He's slowly getting used to it, that's good progress' I thought
"Uugh... In the end, we had to handle getting the garden cleaned up and all the prep work" Ace said looking tired
"Calm down. Dorm Head being back after a full recovery is the most important" Deuce said
"The garden is looking super photogenic, so I'm super satisfied" Cater-senpai said with a smile on his face
"Yeah! I'm ready to eat all this food!" Grim said sounding excited
"Is food all you care about Grim?" I asked as I sweat-drop, and Cater-senpai wrapped his arm around my shoulder
"Ok! Let's get to..." Cater-senpai didn't finish his sentence
"Just a moment!" Riddle-senpai shouted, making everyone look at him with a confused look
"What?" Cater-senpai asked, and Riddle-senpai walked towards a rose tree with white roses
"Those white roses..." Riddle-senpai said, making everyone including me jump
"We missed some?!" Ace shouted
"Awawawah... Ace, Deuce, you said you painted all of them!" Cater-senpai said with a worried tone
"This is our fault!?" Deuce said, and started to freak out a bit
"R-Riddle, this..." Trey-senpai was thinking on what to say to him, and I rushed towards Riddle-senpai
"Please avert your eyes Riddle-senpai!" I shouted as I covered Riddle-senpai's eyes, he removed my hands and started to laugh
"Kidding. I'm not going to punish you for one or two roses" Riddle-senpai said, making everyone breathe again
"R-Really!? Riddle's so lenient!" Cater-senpai said
"It'll go faster if we work together" Riddle-senpai said
"You still want them painted!?" Ace shouted, and Trey-senpai laughed a little
"Don't worry. But really... yeah. You have changed, Riddle" Trey-senpai said and I agreed
"I agree with Trey-senpai! You're changing little by little and I'm proud of you!" I said with a smile
"I can't wait another second! Let's get this painting stuff over with and party!" Grim said
"Then, everyone, are you ready?" Riddle-senpai asked, and we headed towards the rose trees to begin painting them red
After finishing painting the roses red, we headed back to the tea garden, everyone took their seats and started eating
"How did your apology tart come along?" Ace asked
"I-I baked it, don't worry" Riddle-senpai said as he put the strawberry tart on the table "Here, I made this strawberry tart"
"Hmm hmm. The shape needs a little work, but you did well coating the strawberries and managed to bring out their shine. This is great work for your first time" Trey-senpai praised Riddle-senpai
"Ah, there it is. Trey's dotting attitude. Well, let's give it a try" Ace said as he was about to cut a slice of the tart, but Cater-senpai stopped him
"Wait! I wanna take a pic of this ultra-rare tart! So, hold off on cutting!" Cater-senpai said as he took out his phone and took a picture "...Okay!" Cater-senpai gave Ace the okay, Ace cut the tart into slices and gave each of us one
"He never changes either..." Ace said "Let's dig in!" We took a bite
"Hngh!?"
"This tart is..." Trey-senpai and Cater-senpai started off
"Salty!!!!!"
"Wha?!" Riddle-senpai looked shocked and confused
"What the!? It's like eating the ocean! What the hell did you put in this!?" Ace asked as he grabbed a glass of water
"I followed the rule strictly when getting the supplies and during baking. There shouldn't be anything wron-... Ah!" Riddle-senpai looked like he suddenly remembered something "Is it perhaps I added oyster sauce?"
"... Are you referring to Clover's joke about the walrus seal of approval?" Deuce asked as he coughed, Riddle-senpai nodded
"Trey used to say that all good tarts have it even if it's not in the recipe as a secret ingredient..." Riddle-senpai said, and Ace gagged
"Blegh. There's no way! If you think about it for a moment, you'd realize it!" Ace said, and he noticed me not moving or responding
"O-Oi... Maria...?" Ace touched my shoulder and I fell on the ground with a dead look
"Aaaaaahhhhh!!! Maria don't die!" I heard Grim say to me as he tried to put my spirit back into my body, Ace picked me up and put a glass of water near my mouth. I took a few sips and started to regain some of my consciousness back
"I... I'm... not ready for the new age of strawberries plus oyster sauce" I managed to say
"But this goes beyond secret ingredient! How much did you add?" Cater-senpai asked
"N-No one will divulge their trade secrets, you know? So, I couldn't precisely figure out how much to add..." Riddle-senpai said looking away with an embarrassed look, and Trey-senpai started to laugh
"Pfft, ahahaha! I never thought there would someone who took that joke seriously... Ahahaha!" Trey-senpai said as he continued to laugh
".... Aha, ahaha. So true. I'm so dumb... Ahahaha!" Riddle-senpai begins to laugh too, and I couldn't help but cooing at him
"Aaawww! Riddle-senpai you're so cute!" I said, I hugged him and that made him blush
"But y'know I think it's good in its own way" Grim said as he continued to eat the very salted tart, making grossed out
"I get you. It's not as bad as you think" Cater-senpai said as he took another bite of the tart too
"Diamond, your palette is just as crazy as Grim's!" Deuce said looking shocked
"No, no. I wouldn't say that" Cater-senpai said
"This tart is good because it's not sweet" Trey-senpai said surprising Cater-senpai
"Eh?"
"Cater, you hate sweets" Trey-senpai said as he shocked Cater-senpai
"I sorta figured. When we ate the mont blanc together, your smile was forced" I said as I released Riddle-senpai from the hug
"Eh, eh... Trey, how did you know? I've never told anyone about my aversion to sweets" Cater-senpai asked
"Whenever we eat cake, you bring my Doodle Suit up and change the flavor. You never show it in your face, but I just had a feeling that you don't like sweets" Trey-senpai said
"Ah... I've been found out? So embarrassing..." Cater-senpai looked away with a red look "Trey, like the stuff with Riddle, but your habit of 'I noticed but didn't say anything is not good"
"I'll cook up some quiche for the next Unbirthday Party" Trey-senpai promised
"I appreciate that... Make it just as photogenic as the cakes, okay?" Cater-senpai said
I giggled at them; I was about to take a piece of a strawberry cake, but it was snatched from my plate, and I heard humming from behind me
"Humm hmm hmm. Trey's sweets are always the purr-fect. Nom, munch, munch" I heard a male's voice, and he wrapped his arms around my shoulders
"Che'nya! What're you doing here!? And please let go of Maria!" Riddle-senpai said
"Hnh? I came to celebrate the Unbirthday Party. Congrats, Riddle. Plus, I get to see Maria-chan too!" Che'nya said as he nuzzled his cheek against mine
"The Unbirthday Party is a Heartlabyul tradition. You don't have anything to do with it?" Riddle-senpai
"Neither does Maria-chan and her cat friend, right?" Che'nya said with a grin
Ah, you! You're the one from before with the cat puns!" Grim said as he pointed at Che'nya "Oh yeah, which dorm are you from?"
"Che'nya isn't even a student here to begin with. He's from Night Raven College's long-standing rival, Royal Sword Academy" Trey-senpai said
"What!? He goes to a different school!?" Deuce shouted
"Freaking Royal Sword Academy!?" Ace shouted as well
"There are other magic schools? Amazing" I said with a surprised look, and Che'nya chuckled at my reaction
"You're cute as always Maria-chan~" Che'nya said
"Did they just say Royal Sword Academy!?" One of the Heartslabyul shouted
"One of those stuck-up assholes is here?!"
"What?! Where! We'll toss them out!"
"Oops. Well, I got my tart and I got to see Maria-chan again too! So, it's time for meow to go home. Bye bye Maria-chan~" Che'nya kissed my cheek and disappeared
The Heartslabyul residents started to chase him, I placed my hand on my cheek where Che'nya kissed, and I blushed heavily
"They got murderous all of a sudden" Grim said looking surprised
"Students from Night Raven College turn hostile towards Royal Sword Academy with high probability" Riddle-senpai said
"After losing for 100 years, you can't blame them..." Trey-senpai said
"I guess that's true" I said, and Cater-senpai decided to change the mood
"No more gloomy talk! We're celebrating! Let's enjoy our Unbirthday Party today!" Cater-senpai said, and Grim agreed, and so the party continued

Aahaaaaaah, I'm jealous. Those Heartlabyul guys are having a party with a huge feast. SavanahClaw doesn't have any stomach bursting traditions" Ruggie said
"Hmph... What's so fun about a party where all you do is eat cake and cookies under the afternoon sun? Disgusting. That aside, Ruggie, how is that coming?" Leona asked
