Chapter 109: I Will Give You a Better... Reward
Jiang Yu walked over, opened the car door, and got in.
The voice of the man in the car was deep and pleasant. “I heard.”
“Huh?”
“You got first place in the monthly exam. Your results are pretty good.”
Jiang Yu did not ask him how he had heard the news which had just been announced.
She replied calmly, “It’s alright.”
Feng Linbai handed her a document. “This is for you.”
“What’s this?”
“It’s a reward for you.”
Jiang Yu did not bother to look and rejected it immediately, “I don’t need it.”
Feng Linbai handed it over again. “You should take a look at what it is.”
Jiang Yu had no choice but to accept it. She scanned it and asked after a moment of silence, “Why are you giving me this?”
Feng Linbai replied nonchalantly, “I’ve already said, it’s a reward.”
Jiang Yu rephrased, “What I mean is, why are you giving me a reward?”
“I can give you anything if I wish to do so. Do I need any other reason?”
Feng Linbai continued, “However because you’re not 18 yet, I’m unable to officially transfer it to you. I’ll just leave this contract with you for now. When you turn 18, you can sign your name at any time.”.
“To show my sincerity, I’ve already asked someone to inform all the employees of this restaurant that their boss has changed hands. They’ve even sent over your name and photo.”
“So, from their point of view, you’re already their boss.”
Yes, that’s right.
Feng Linbai had handed Jiang Yu a transfer letter. He wanted to transfer a restaurant to her.
Jiang Yu has heard the name of this restaurant before. She heard that the food in this restaurant was very good and was pretty famous in Beijing. On normal days, the private rooms in the restaurant needed a three-day advanced booking, so forget about public holidays and special occasions.
For holidays like the spring festival, one might not be able to book a table even a month in advance.
Jiang Yu asked, “Have you asked anyone else for their opinion on this matter?”
Feng Linbai understood what she meant and explained, “It’s not Feng family property, it’s mine. So, it’s completely up to me. It has nothing to do with the Feng family, you don’t have to worry.”
Jiang Yu knew he had his own power to rely on even if he left the Feng family. However, to give her a restaurant just because she did well in her monthly exams. Wasn’t that a little much?
Although she had done such things before, she wasn’t happy to be on the receiving end of such gestures.
“If you say that it’s a reward for curing your eyes, I can accept it.”
Feng Linbai looked as if he had heard a funny joke. In fact, he laughed out loud.
“Yu’er.” Feng Linbai’s handsome face leaned closer. With a smile on his face, he asked, “Do you think that my eyes are only worth this lousy restaurant?”
Jiang Yu fell silent.
After a while, she replied, “Eating is very important.”
Feng Linbai turned his body. His elbow leaned against the cushioned armrests of the seats. He lazily supported his head with one hand and said in a relaxed yet solemn manner, as if making some kind of promise, “Believe me, I will give you a better… reward.”
He said the last word clearly and deliberately, his voice going up several notches.
However, straight-laced Jiang Yu didn’t notice it. She thought for a moment and asked, “Don’t tell me you want to transfer all your restaurants to me? There’s no need.”
Feng Linbai: “…”
This response killed the mood a little.
He chuckled. Forget it, there was no rush.
“It will be worth far more than this. You’ll find out when the time is right.”
Chapter 110: Do You Think You Govern the Rules of the World?
“Also, you should be like me in this one aspect – you will not take back what you’ve given away.”
Jiang Yu’s hand that had been about to reach out paused in midair.
She scanned the letter again and thought for a moment before putting it into her bag.
“Thank you.”
Feng Linbai: “You’re welcome. It’s my pleasure.”
This time, Jiang Yu was here for Feng Linbai’s eyes.
He had already removed the bandages but he still needed to take his medication while he was recovering. Jiang Yu would determine the dosage based on the condition of his eyes.
It wasn’t too troublesome. He just needed to apply medicinal bandages for a certain period of time before he went to bed.
Ever since Jiang Yu had got into the car, the person in the front seat had pulled down the partition so that they wouldn’t be able to see every move made by those sitting in the backseat through the rearview mirror.
Sometimes, it wasn’t a good thing to know too much…
It meant that she would have to endure whatever might happen, for example, any corporal punishment…
Although he couldn’t see what was happening, he could still hear their voices!
Ke Yanbin sat puzzled in the front seat.
Although he still had reservations about his master’s preferential treatment towards Jiang Yu, his master’s charm… Why didn’t it work on Jiang Yu?
…
As soon as she entered the school, Jiang Yu was stopped by someone.
The girl bit her lip and said, “Jiang Yu, I lost to you in this exam, but…”
She stopped, her lips had turned white from all the biting. After taking two deep breaths, she lowered her head and said, “It wasn’t I who had raised the bet to drop out of school though, you did.”
“You had known the results from the beginning, you did this on purpose. You wanted to force me to drop out of school. Although my skills are indeed inferior, it’s too much for you to deliberately dig a hole for me to jump into!”
“So, I won’t accept the results of the bet this time. I won’t drop out of school!”
Jiang Yu looked at her coldly. “Are you done talking?”
Chen Miaoyi was a little scared by Jiang Yu’s imposing manner but she still stubbornly continued, “Yes, I just want to tell you that I will not accept your demand.”
“I will instead abide by what I said first. I will run three laps around the field and say that I was wrong. Will you be satisfied then?”
From Chen Miaoyi’s point of view, she had already made a huge compromise.
Although it was a little unfair, she had no choice.
She couldn’t quit school!
Dropping out would be too embarrassing!
“Since you’re done, it’s my turn.”
Jiang Yu raised her finger and stated, “Firstly, you were the one who proposed the bet, not me.”
“Secondly, you were the one who wanted to compete with me, who had originally been in the bottom 20 of the grade. Didn’t you ‘deliberately’ do that because you thought you knew what the outcome would be?”
Chen Miaoyi argued, “I… How would I know that you were pretending to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing!”
“Third, I raised the stakes, but did I, in any way, force you to accept it?”
The more Jiang Yu said the paler Chen Miaoyi’s face became.
Jiang Yu snorted coldly and said sarcastically, “Little Princess, do you think you govern the rules of the world?”
“But… but I really can’t drop out of school…” Chen Miaoyi sobbed as she said, “I won’t be able to live it down. Can you please let me go? I don’t want to quit school…”
There was a circle of people gathering behind Chen Miaoyi.
They knew about the bet and wanted to see how the bet would end.
After all, who would have thought that Jiang Yu would actually make a comeback and win first place?
Chapter 111: Trying to Push Her Into the Grave
Jiang Wan and Ni Manman stood among the crowd.
Someone said, “Jiang Wan, go and persuade your older sister. Chen Miaoyi is already crying and begging her, but she still refuses to agree. Is she trying to push Chen Miaoyi into the grave?”
“That’s right. Chen Miaoyi wasn’t the one who wanted to raise the bet to drop out of school. It was your older sister who suggested it. She’s too cruel. Isn’t she deliberately trying to mess with Chen Miaoyi?”
“I hadn’t expected your older sister to become so spiteful after getting first place. She was just an unknown figure not long ago. So what if her grades are good? Her attitude doesn’t match up to her talent!”
Jiang Wan hesitated and said, “But, this is my older sister and this is my good friend. I’m stuck in the middle… I really don’t know what to do…”
Ni Manman protected Jiang Wan and said, “Don’t try to force Wan Wan! Everyone knows that Wan Wan is kind-hearted. It’s not like she wanted this to happen!”
“Although Big Sister Yu here doesn’t treat Wan Wan very well, Wan Wan has never said a bad word about her!”
“After all, she’s a member of the Jiang family. She lives under the same roof as Wan Wan. They would have to face each other all the time. Why would Wan Wan do anything to cause them to have a falling out? With Wan Wan’s personality, she could never do such a thing!”
“Miaoyi herself understands this and didn’t trouble Wan Wan by asking for help. If you want someone to blame, you should look at Jiang Yu instead. Why are you forcing this on Wan Wan?”
Jiang Wan lowered her eyes and said, “Man Man, enough… They’re right actually. I too am responsible. I didn’t stop them, which has led to this scene today…”
She knotted her fingers together and said awkwardly, “It’s my fault. It’s all my fault…”
“Wan Wan, this has nothing to do with you. Miaoyi made this decision herself. Don’t blame yourself.”
Ni Manman comforted her. “Isn’t Miaoyi already begging your older sister? She isn’t so heartless that she will force people into a corner, right?”
Jiang Wan said weakly, “My big sister wouldn’t do that…”
Someone beside her said, “Who knows? You can’t judge a book by its cover. Isn’t your sister being really aggressive right now?”
Ni Manman said angrily, “Those words earlier came out of Jiang Yu’s mouth. What does it have to do with Wan Wan? Why are you aiming your spite at her?”
“I’m talking about Jiang Yu, not Jiang Wan…”
Ni Manman glared at him, he clammed up immediately.
However, after listening to their chatter, Ni Manman said in frustration, “If it can’t be worked out, let Miaoyi accept the bet. She made her own decision, so she should bear the consequences. Otherwise, if she walks away, others will just think we’re sore losers.”
“To be honest, I feel embarrassed watching her cry in front of Jiang Yu. People struggle to live their life, this is just quitting school. Why not just drop out? It’s so simple. Why do you still bother to seek Jiang Yu?”
She said all this so casually, without an ounce of consideration for Chen Miaoyi’s situation.
Ni Manman’s grandfather was a nouveau riche. Back then, he had bought many properties all over Beijing. Now, these properties had multiplied in value many times their original price. Even if he didn’t work, he could live a life of comfort just by collecting rent from said properties.
Ni Manman’s father had inherited the company. He only held a junior college degree and did not have much of an education, neither did he have a preference for sons. Under his name, he only had one daughter, Ni Manman. Naturally, he doted over her.
However, when he thought of Ni Manman inheriting the company in the future, her father wanted to get a son-in-law to help her with managing the company.
