CHAPTER THREE

Aurora had only seen her brothers anger once. it all started when this asswipe of a kid kept messing with aurora while she was at school. At first, it was petty teasing until one day aurora came home with a nasty black eye.
Jeremiah and Conrad freaked, they were determined to find the kid who did it. after 2 days of begging aurora to tell them, she finally told but she made them promise they wouldn't hurt the kid.
And they kept their promise, they didn't hurt him but they scared the living shit out of him. he apologized to aurora the next day and kept his distance from her, not wanting to anger her brothers anymore
This would be the second time she's seen her brothers anger and this time it was at her
After aurora helped belly up from the ground, she turned in the other direction trying to get away from this weird situation when I hit someone's chest. I back up hearing a familiar voice " And where do you think you're going? " Jeremiah asks stopping me from leaving
" What a crazy coincidence, I didn't know yall were going to this party too " Aurora tries to play drunkenly off seeing both her brothers giving her an angry look " Quit with the games Lora, I thought we told you that you couldn't come? " Conrad speaks up walking toward Aurora and Jeremiah
" but it's not fair! I'm almost 16, why can't I come to parties like you guys " Aurora pouts annoyed " it doesn't matter! you know what I'm not having this conversation with you, we're taking you home " Jeremiah said dragging her towards the car
" Come on! there's no point in taking me home, I'm already here. just let me enjoy this last hour then we can go home " Aurora pleads. both her brothers pause thinking about it for a minute, the grip on aurora's arm loosened and she was let go
" fine but the first time something happens, we're taking you home " Conrad sighs going back to his girlfriend. I walk towards belly only to see that she hanging out with this random dude.
not wanting to interrupt them aurora found herself getting another drink. she wandered around for a bit until she found a cozy spot not too far away from the bonfire.
As she sat there thinking, it never occurred to her that she had no actual friends. it was partly her brothers fault, they never let her go anywhere. it was always " better " if she stayed home with the parents.
it did sadden her that she had been coming to cousins since she was a baby and knew absolutely nobody. Her mind was racing she hadn't noticed the tears welling in her eyes. She quickly wiped them away and looked up to see her brother drunkenly arguing with someone.
knowing her brother was drunk she walked up trying to help Nicole separate the boys when she felt someone's elbow ram straight into her eye. " Lora! " Conrad yelled trying to help her when the guys threw a punch at him
Aurora feels someone run up beside her and help her up " Are you okay Lora? " belly asked concerned " I'm fine bells! it's just a little bruise " Aurora assures
all of a sudden they see flashing police lights— Aurora grabs belly's hand and runs off to the car. as they approach the car they see Jeremiah helping Conrad into the car. " come on belly! we gotta go "Aurora says getting into the back seat
" Cam can give me a ride home. Right, Cam? " she says. She finally takes notice of the boy standing next to her." No, you're not gonna get in a car with a guy you just met, " Jeremiah argues
" I'm Cam, Cameron, " the guy reaches his hand out to Jeremiah " your name is Cam Cameron? "Aurora jokes seeing belly give her a nasty glare.
" Okay. No offense, but no. Belly, get in the car " Jeremiah says sternly finally, belly gives up and gets in the car not before kissing cam. Aurora could help but feel jealous at that moment—
as Jeremiah starts to drive off, he slams on the brakes " Fuck Steven— watch Conrad. ill be right back "
there along silence before Conrad speaks up drunkenly " your hair's like a little kid the way it's always so messy. Right Lora? " he says bringing the girl into the conversation" yeah but it suits her, " Aurora confesses looking at belly— She sees a slight blush rise to her cheeks.
they all turn their heads to see a police officer standing at the car window. " Have you kids been drinking? "
" Officers, thank you. It won't happen again, I can promise you that much. " laurel apologies " tell Mr.Fisher the chief wants to up a tee time when he gets back in town " the officer nods
" absolutely, sorry again for all the trouble. Have a good night, officers. " laurel says closing the door behind the officers
" How could you guys be so irresponsible? she asked " Mom, it wasn't a big deal. All right? seriously— the cops were just looking to break up the bonfire " Steven says stepping forward
" not a big deal? " she questions " yes " he answers. "I would say getting picked up by the cops for underage drinking is a pretty big deal, Steven " she scolds frustrated
Aurora had smelled a familiar scent as should as she walked into the house— " were you guys smoking? " Aurora scoffs " keep your voice down. Susannah's asleep on the couch, and how would you know what that smells like? " Laurel questioned rising her eyebrow and crossing her arms.
Aurora looks around to see everyone but Conrad and belly staring at her with shocked expressions. " uh well would you look at the time... definitely past my bedtime " Aurora laughs awkwardly trying to get out of this situation
as she tries to walk from the conversation, she could feel Jeremiah grab her arms not letting her leave " no, no, no, we will talk about that later " Laurel gives her a disappointed look
" Just so you know, Laurel, I didn't drink tonight— I was the DD, I swear, " Jeremiah says trying to make himself look innocent " you're the oldest— what the hell's gotten into you? " Laurel exclaims looking at Conrad
" and when did you girls leave the house without telling anybody? and what in the world are y'all wearing, " Laurel acknowledges belly and aurora's outfit
"it's Taylors, and why are we the only ones not allowed to go out? " belly says crossing her arms "it not that you're not allowed, it that you should have told us yall were going— how did yall even get there? " Laurel frowns " we walked, " belly admits
" You girls know better than to walk that far down the beach alone late at night, " Laurel sighs " Can you stop treating me like a kid? " belly yells " if you want to be treated like an adult, you need to act like one, " Laurel expresses
" and you, I thought I would give you the benefit of the doubt because of everything going on with volleyball but smoking, drinking, and sneaking out? who are you and what have you done with that sweet little girl that we all knew and loved?"
as soon as those words left Laurel's mouth Aurora could tell that she instantly regretted it. She could feel everyone's eyes burning into the back of her neck
" uh I think I'm gonna head to bed guys, " Aurora says in a weak voice " Lora I didn't mean that— " Laurel apologizes pausing in the middle of her sentence "it's fine! goodnight everyone, " Aurora said bidding her goodbyes. she rushed up to her room before she could hear their responses
she slammed her door and slid down it slowly crying— She would've never thought in a million years that laurel would ever say that. is she really acting differently? She lay in her bed and the only thing she could think about was laurel words
her racing mind was interrupted by small knocks, she immediately knew who it was.
