You call it an oppression
I call it my freedom
You say it's a rug sitting on my head
I call it the crown of my whole existence
You say it makes me ugly
I tell you it shows my inner beauty
You say it makes me a terrorist
I say it's the symbol of modesty
You say it's so depressing to see me this way
I say this is the reason for my true happiness
You say it makes me timid
I tell you it's the reason I'm so bold
You call it baggy and that it makes me seem old
I say it makes me look fragile and so strong in its hold
You tell me it enables people to see my beauty
I say it protects me from the eyes of the evil
You always say why cover yourself up when you're so beautiful
I just say my beauty is reserved for a special someone
It's there to protect me and make me feel special
And to find someone to love me but for my inner beauty
I'm a hijabi and I'm proud of it.
