Prompt: "But I want to hear you sing."

        Requested by: Kiwi_KitKat (On Ao3)

        Warnings: Fluff

Humming to yourself, you lightly wipe the counters off. Having stayed at Casita with your friend, Luisa, you woke up in the middle of the night, unable to go back to sleep. With nothing better to do, you had started wandering around, not wanting to rouse Luisa from her sleep. Not that you probably could do so easily anyways. Unlike Mirabel, she's not a light sleeper. Eventually, you had decided to help Señora Julieta by cleaning up around the kitchen and dining room.

        "Fly me to the moon..."

The soft hum of your voice gradually became singing. After all, you were alone; no one in their right mind would be up at this hour. Well, except Bruno probably.

"and let me dance among the stars."

Setting aside the rag, you reach for the broom and sweep away the dirt that had been tracked in during the previous day.

"Let me see what spring is like on-a Jupiter and Mars...

"In other words... hold my hand.

"In other words... darling, kiss me."

As you sweep, you sigh, leaning heavily against the broom. Your gaze shifts upward, meeting the night sky. It's beautiful.

Where you used to live the stars were never bright. Well, they were, but the air was never clear enough. But here in Encanto, the stars burn, twinkling everywhere you look. The sight is enough to draw you towards the window, setting aside the broom momentarily just to admire the night sky.

"Fill my heart with song... and let me sing forever more."

Again, your voice lifts up, fogging the window pane from how close you stand.

"You are all I long for, all I worship and adore.

"In other words... please be true.

"In other words... I love you."

Shifting your weight, you back away from the glass, going back to sweeping the floor. As you do, you hum the first part of the song once more, subconsciously moving the broom along to the timing of your words.

"Fill my heart with song... and let me sing forever more.

"You are all I long for, all I worship and adore."

You reach for the dustpan and finish sweeping the rest of the dining room.

"In other words... please be true.

"In other words... in other words... in other words... I love you."

As you finish the song, another sigh slips past your lips. You stare at the ground for a moment until finally moving. Just as you do, someone begins clapping, causing you to jolt, dropping the broom to the ground rather loudly. Cringing, you turn around to find Camilo standing by the threshold, a soft smile growing on his face.

        "You sound so good, hermosa!"

An awkward silence fills the room. Your body refuses to move, completely tense as you can't help but stare at him in embarrassment.

"Uh, hermosa?" Camilo frowns worriedly, waving a hand in front of your face.

Finally, you snap out of it. "How much of that did you.. hear?" Your heart is pounding in anticipation, silently praying that he just got here.

He chuckles, moving closer to you and effectively making you back up into the counter. Your back hits the edge, making your eyes widen. Leaning back as much as you can, you turn your head slightly as Camilo leans over you. "All of it."

Those three words causes your heart to sink, your face down to your neck burning from embarrassment.

When you don't answer or move, Camilo backs away, offering you a bright smile. "You have a beautiful voice!" He tilts his head as you slowly relax, still standing in your spot. Despite the heavily awkward atmosphere, Camilo pushes on. "Oh, you should try singing 'No te apartes de mi.' You're voice would be perfect for it," he steps towards you, hope in his eyes.

You clear your throat, eyes darting everywhere but him. "I don't- I don't know..." You know the song. It's actually one of your top favourites, but even though he's already heard you sing, a part of you is still telling you not to.

Camilo frowns, giving you a look all to similar to a kid. "But I want to hear you sing. Please? Mi vida?"

Again, you shake your head. "I don't know... I mean, I- I'm not that good-"

Before you can say anything else, Camilo gently grabs your shoulders and cuts you off. "What? No, you sound beautiful! Trust me, you have a pretty voice. I can sing it with you if you want?" He tilts his head, not letting go of your shoulders. You can almost feel the silent encouragement push you.

You take in a deep breath, pulling out of his grasp to pick up the forgotten broom.

        "Por favor?"

At his final request, you groan, giving him an uneasy look before nodding. "Fine. But you're singing too!" You give him a look, earning a grin from him.

"I know! I will. Do you need me to start?"

Your fingers grow slightly numb, and you glance to the broom, just noticing how much pressure you were squeezing it with. Instantly, you lean it against the wall for later. "...Yeah."

        Camilo smiles, clearing his throat.

"Yo pensé que podía quedarme sin ti y no puedo."

His voice is soft, nearly a whisper at first, but grows firmer with each syllable.

"Es difícil mi amor, más difícil de lo que pensé."

He gives you a nod of encouragement, urging you to join him. Yet every time you open your mouth, nothing comes out; your throat feels dry, unable to produce any sound.

        "He dejado mi puerta entreabierta...

        "Y entraste tú sin avisar...

"No te apartes de mí, oh no."

When you don't chime in within the first bit, Camilo frowns lightly, giving you a pleading look. Finally, it's enough.

"Yo pensé que con tanta experiencia..."

You join in, voice shaky and quiet. You're almost surprised when Camilo beams at you, having heard you.

        "Conocías todo...

"Y contigo aprendí que al amor no le importa...

        "Quién sabe más...

"Y que el tiempo en nosotros no existe..."

Camilo walks closer to you, smiling as your voice grows stronger. Though still thoroughly embarrassed, you force your breaths to even, focusing on the sound of your voice twisting together. However, it becomes difficult to focus as he steps closer and closer to you. On instinct, you want to back away, but something pulls you, stepping forward slightly before standing still as you meet eyes.

"Por todo lo que veo en ti...

"No te apartes de mí, oh no, oh no."

Reaching the chorus, you decide to switch gears. As he sings along, you harmonize, even dragging out some words longer than him, and allowing yourself to get lost in the words.

"Todo amor que yo esperé de la vida...

"Lo he encontrado solo en ti...

"Y resulta que tú no estás aquí...

"Esos aires de quien no sabe nada...

        "Me han sabido hacer feliz...

"No te apartes de mí, oh no, oh no."

Before you know it, Camilo stands in front of you, taking ahold of your hand. He brings it up slowly between you, palms against each other. You can feel your stomach flip as he intertwines your fingers leisurely. His eyes drift from your hands back to your face for a moment, seamlessly searching your own for something.

"No pensé que ese aire inocente...

        "Me enseñase un mundo...

"En las cosas bonitas tan simples...

Encasing your other hand in his, Camilo tugs you forward, trying to guide into dancing along to the dance with him. At first, you hesitate, unsure of how to really dance, but the worry diminishes as he leads on confidently.

        "Que siempre me dices...

"Por la falta que me haces a ti...

"Y por todo lo que veo en ti...

"No te apartes de mí, oh no, oh no..."

You find yourself relaxing, the tension taken from your shoulders. Despite what he says, you can't help but feel that your voice would always be inferior to his; smooth and soft. True or not, you don't mind.

"Todo amor que yo esperé de la vida...

"Lo he encontrado solo en ti...

"Y resulta que tú no estás aquí...

"Esos aires de quien no sabe nada...

        "Me han sabido hacer feliz."

The two of you move together, yourself being too lost in the song to even realize his voice has slowly fallen quiet.

"No te apartes de mí, oh no, oh no...

"No te apartes de mí, oh no, oh no...

"No te apartes de mí, oh no, oh no."

As you draw the song to a close, you look up at Camilo, seeing his grin and only realizing that he hadn't sung the last parts with you. "Hey! You were supposed to sing too!" Playfully, you shove him back and frown.

He simply laughs, throwing his hands up in defense. "Hey, you were the one who didn't join in the beginning. So, it's only fair." He smirks at your mock-offended reaction.

"You said you'd lead first anyways, so that doesn't count."

Rolling his eyes, Camilo steps back up in front of you. "Does too."

        "Does not."

        "Does too."

        "Does not."

        "Does too."

You cross your arms in protest, raising an eyebrow, forgetting about your previous nervousness. "Does not."

In one swift motion, Camilo gently gingerly forces your arms down, holding your hands still at your sides. "Does. Too." You open your mouth to protest, but he cuts you off with a kiss, pressing his lips to yours lightly, almost afraid of rejection. For a second, you're frozen, shocked by the suddenness. Just when he shifts to pull away, scared that he's messed up, you melt into his touch, wrapping your arms around his neck.

Responding immediately, Camilo pulls your close by wrapping his arms around your waist. You can feel your face heat up, nervous, yet content. The two of you break the kiss to breathe, staring at the other's eyes half-lidded. He leans against you, resting his forehead on yours, standing in the embrace for what feels forever; but somehow not long enough.

When he finally pulls away, you feel a frown crossing your features, not wanting it to end. Camilo chuckles at your expression, pressing a chaste kiss to your cheek. "You'll need to sing more often mi vida. You have a beautiful voice; no matter what you say. With that, he leaves, walking out of the dining room and towards the threshold. "Oh, don't stay up too late." He stops, turning his head back to wish you goodnight and finally leaves.

A/N- Hello! I'm just going to shut up. Whatever I say I'll do is the opposite half the time lmao. Sorry for not updating! I lost inspiration on the drafts I have, but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. This probably isn't what you imagined it as, but I tried. I hope you enjoyed at least! Have a good night/day!
