Felicity
For some strange reason, the next five days after Liam kissed me literally flew by. It's already Friday again, and apparently today at work we have an important food critic coming.
To be completely honest, I'm beyond nervous. I still barely know anyone in the kitchen and I still barely do anything. I'm hoping that this is going to change sometime soon.
"Morning," Louis smiled to me as I entered the kitchen. "Came to get everything warmed up."
"Alright," I said, smiling back.
Luckily, barely anybody is here since I got here so early, so I'm going to take this chance to get my own kitchen area set up. As I watched over the days, there was a small spot that barely anyone used.
I began to carry bowls around and chop vegetables as I waited for the office to fill up.
"Excuse me?" I small voice said from behind me. I turned around to see a blonde about a half a foot shorter than me. "This is my kitchen area."
"I'm sorry," I stuttered out, quickly moving out of her way.
"You're the new head, aren't you?" She asked, tying her apron. I nodded my head, motioning for her to continue. "They're real pricks here. They haven't let you cook much, have they?"
"Nope," I replied, popping the p. I placed my hands into my pockets and looked around for Louis to help me out.
"You can work here with me. I've been out for the past two weeks because I just had my baby boy," the girl said, smiling to herself.
Mentally, I asked myself how the hell this five foot girl that looked twenty-four had a baby.
"I'm Cindy Martin, by the way," she greeted, sticking out her hand.
I smiled, shaking her hand. "Felicity Grimes."
By now, the kitchen had started to fill up. People were rushing around, quickly making meals and dishes that were ordered.
As Cindy and I cooked, we would occasionally make small talk.
"So are you just new to here, or to the city?" Cindy asked as she perfectly put together a club sandwich.
"I'm new to the area," I answered, slicing raw pieces of meat. "I was transferred from Boston, actually."
"Really?" The blonde asked, her blue eyes wide. "I was raised there, it's where most of my family is."
"Beautiful place." I picked up the meat and put it into a bowl, only to look over and see Louis standing on a chair.
"Alright everybody," he called, placing his hands together. At once, everybody stopped what they were doing and faced him. Quickly, his eyes met mine, and he began to speak again. "Felicity is going to come up and tell us what we'll be making for Estelle today."
At once, I mentally began to break down. This is the longest it's ever taken me to get used to a group of people, and I have a feeling this is still going to be a tough crowd.
Slowly, I began to walk towards Louis, occasionally shoving past someone's rude ass.
"Okay," I sighed as I looked around. Both Cindy and Louis were smiling to me, giving me a small sense of security. "As I've been watching you all this week, I've noticed that you cook the Parmesan Lobster and Noodles the most. Would that be good with you guys?
"It's good," a random voice from the kitchen called. "But it's kind of bland, don't you think?"
I nodded, smiling. "That's why we're replacing the Parmesan with Adobo seasoning. I know, it may not sound too good together, but trust me on this one. The critics back in Boston loved it."
Everyone in the kitchen seemed to agree, and they then went back to work.
"If she loves it, we're going to get a drink afterwards," Cindy said as I returned to her.
"Count me in, I'll pay," Louis smiled as he walked past the two of us.
Cindy and I both nodded and the continued to work. "You don't want to go home to the baby?" I asked, sauteing mushrooms.
"She's killing me," Cindy sighed. "I have Niall, my brother, at home with her today."
"Niall? The one from the grocery store?" I asked on instinct. The two of them look so similar, so it has to be him.
"That's my baby brother," she smiled. "But it'll be fine if we go out. I don't have any friends here, anyways. He'll understand if I'm making one."
"Same with me," I replied. "Except, I have nobody to go home to."
The conversation ended there when Cindy was called to help with something. And then, I was called out almost an hour later. As I walked towards the double doors, everybody was dead silent as they followed me to peak.
Louis and I walked to a small table where a middle-aged black woman sat, a plain expression on her face.
"You altered the perfect meal?" She asked, her words leaving her mouth slowly.
I nodded, swallowing the large knot in my throat. "Yes ma'am, I did."
"Well," Estelle sighed, folding her hands. "It tastes amazing."
The fear I held inside of me was released as Louis pulled my into a friendly, you did it hug.
"Thank you so much," I said, smiling. "Thank you," I grinned once more as I walked off with Louis.
"Guess who loved our meal?" Louis asked the kitchen staff as we entered.
The room filled with cheers as I walked back to Cindy.
"Congrats," Cindy smiled as I met back up with her.
...
After getting cleaned up quickly, Cindy, Louis, and I all met up at a small bar called the Foxhole.
We sat at a round, elevated table and had beers delivered.
"Successful day, eh?" I asked, taking a swig of my beer. I'm usually the wine type, but today I feel as if I deserve a beer.
"Cheers to that," Cindy said as we all brought our glasses together.
"Felicity, tell us something about yourself," Louis smiled as he played with the multiple rings on his fingers.
"Well, I was just transferred from Boston a bit more than a week ago," I said, repeating what I told Cindy earlier. I sighed as I thought about what else to say. "My father works in Narcotics in Chicago, my mother is a teacher back in Athens."
"Nothing else to say?" Cindy asked, looking to me. I shook my head as she continued. "Husband? Boyfriend? Partner?"
Louis' eyes met mine as I shrugged. "It's complicated."
"Who is it?" Louis asked.
"Liam Payne. He's-"
"He's a mechanic at Styles'. Real douchebag, I've heard," the man at the table spoke.
What the hell? Is Louis jealous for some strange reason? I mean, we barely know each other.
"He's really not," I smiled, keeping my cool. "I've known him forever. We just reconnected. But anyways, what about you two?"
"I'm single, thank god," Louis sighed, taking a huge sip of beer.
"Same with me," Cindy replied. "Zayn's father is a deadbeat."
I mentally cringed at the name Zayn, the same name as the man I left Liam for.
"You have any pictures of Zayn?" I asked Cindy.
She nodded, digging out her phone. Cindy swiped through her phone and stopped when it began to ring. "One moment," she said as she stood up and walked outside.
"So," Louis smiled, intertwining his fingers. "What are-"
"I've got to go," Cindy blurted out as she grabbed her purse from the back of her chair. "Niall said Zayn threw up everywhere. Sorry, guys. I'll see you Monday."
I smiled and said a quick goodbye before turning back to Louis. "I should probably get going, too. I'll see you around."
I didn't give him any time to reply before getting up and leaving. I'm still pissed that he accused Liam of being a douchebag, but I'll get over it.
As I got into my car, I pulled out and dialed Liam's number.
"Hello?" He asked upon answering, the faint sound of a TV in the background.
"You up for a LOST marathon?" I questioned as I drove home.
"I'll be over in ten," he said, quickly hanging up.
Thankfully, the Foxhole is only five minutes from home, so I'll get home just in time.
