When Jamie got home she saw Hopper passed out on the couch with beer cans surrounding him. She sighed and went back to her room.
For the whole of the next morning she couldn't help but find herself of thinking about the monster, any little creek in the floorboards and she would jump.
About midday she had people banging on her door, she opened it too see Mia and Amy both grinning at her "party time" Mia smiled
The party was the thing least on her mind at this point in time "oh I don't think I'm going to go tonight"
Amy's face dropped "excuse you yes you are" she barged her way in "where's your dad" she looked around
"Oh Hopper ? he left early in the morning he always does"
Amy turned to her "you don't call him dad ?"
Shit Jamie thought to herself "oh we always call each other our full names to get on each other's nerves" she played it off "but no seriously I was planning on sitting and listening to music all day"
Mia rolled her eyes "yeah like we're let you sit here and mope all night" she went into Jamie's room "come on I'll pick you out a dress"
The worst part is she couldn't even tell them why she didn't want to go.
Jamie sat at the back of Amy's car as they both sat and chatted about the people that will be there "no and Tommy and Carol are going" Amy said
"I hate Carol" Mia added as Amy giggled
"Don't we all" Amy agreed "someone's awfully quiet back there, you alright Jamie ?"
They finally got Jamie's attention "oh yeah".
They arrived at a big house and all got out. Jamie looked at the house with her mouth wide open "these people are too rich"
"Pfft tell me about it" Amy linked her arm as they went through the house.
Jamie and the girls went outside were most of the people were
"JAMIE" Riff called running over to her "you came I was getting scared you weren't going to show" be hugged her tightly
Jamie grinned "yeah we'll these two forced me so you can thank them" she pointed to Mia and Amy
"Mia right" Riff pointed "nice to see you again"
Mia shook his hand "yeah nice to meet you, Jamie here has told me lots about you" Mia said making Riff blush
"And I'm Amy" Amy waved "I met Jamie a couple days ago so I've heard nothing about you" she smiled innocently "oo is that beer" Amy went off with Mia following after her
"Do you wanna get a drink ?" Riff said yelling over the music attempting to here Jamie
"Yeah sure"she yelled back.
Riff and Jamie danced and drunk for about 2 hours together, she saw many familiar faces but when she saw Nancy she indicated a nod at her as did Nancy.
She turned back to Riff as they were dancing he leaned in and kissed her once again.
After a while Amy and Mia made their way through a crowd of people and grabbed Jamie and started dancing with her to the song 'Jessie's girl'
Jamie turned around to someone "hey where's the bathroom ?" She said as the person indicated that it was upstairs.
She stumbled up the steps and went door to door checking if it was the bathroom. She got to a door but before she could open it she heard voices come from it
"So what Riff you've only kissed her ?" A boy mocked from the other side of the door
"Yeah" Riff paused "I like her I wanna take it slow" A following of boys chuckled
"Riff my boy" another boy said "girls like Jamie aren't the type of girls you like my friend. She's there for fun not business" two of the boys agreed
Mouthpieces voice appeared out of the crowd "I don't think she's like that she's a nice girl Riff I understand you" his New York accent was the strongest thing in the room
"Right" a boy laughed "she's a weird one though, should have seen her in middle school" he laughed "shaved head and everything could barely speak a word of English" she could here the boy sit next to Riff "you have your fun with her and leave her, best way to go about girls like her"
Tony's voice appeared "alright fellas I've known Jamie for a while try speak about her with more respect"
"Shut up Tony, Riff you gotta agree with us right" before Riff could even finish the sentence she ran down stairs.
She put her drink on the side and started pushing her way through the crowd of people.
Steve was standing talking to his friends when he felt Jamie shove herself past him. He turned to her to see she was making her way to the exit and looked like she was crying.
After a second Steve grabbed his car keys and got in his car to follow after her.
Jamie was walking down one of the roads with tears burning her face, she didn't wanna tell Mia or Amy about what she heard neither of them would understand why she was so upset.
It was not Jamie's fault for her shaved head or the way she spoke, she just did.
A car slowly pulled up behind her "Jamie" she stopped hoping it wasn't Riff, she slowly turned to see the lights blinding her and Steve's figure looking at her "get in the car come on"
"No thank you" she tried to hide her eyes which were still filled with tears, she turned her back to him and carried on walking
The car was slowly following her "come on Jamie" Steve said rolling the window down "I'm not gunna let you walk by yourself" Jamie still refused to look his direction "I'll follow you the whole way home"
"I don't need your help Steve" Jamie hated crying but the thought of crying in front of Steve and letting him see her in this state was even worse
"You don't want the faceless monster to get you do you" Steve mocked, she turned to him and stopped as did his car "you know you want to get in"
Jamie walked to the car and opened the door and hoped in "just drive me home" she looked at the window refusing to look at him
Steve carried on driving "so what happened" Steve broke the silence
"Don't worry about it" she finally spoke to him
"Well something happened because your crying and you rarely ever cry Jamie" He looked at her quickly and then back at the road "it that boy Riff right"
Jamie nodded "yeah" she looked down at her hands "more like his friends"
"What did they say to you ?" Steve asked
"I overheard them talking about me too Riff, I'm weird and I'm the type of girl you play with and leave after you've had your fun"
"Are they joking" Steve seemed annoyed "they all said that ?" He held out his hand "there all small sized anyway"
Jamie cracked a smile "that is the worst insult I've ever heard" she started giggling
"What" Steve said in a high pitch voice "I am the best at insulting"
She smiled at him "your hideous at them" she looked at the road and Steve took the wrong turn "you took the wrong turn"
"Nah I wanna take you out for a little, you came out so let's make it worth while ay" he said still focusing on the road
"Where's Nancy ?" She felt guilty as Nancy was probably still at the party and Steve was trying to take care of Jamie
"Uh she went out with Jonathan actually" he seemed bitter "she said it was important so I just left her" Nancy and Jonathan were most likely trying to figure out what the faceless monster was doing "so looks like we've post been screwed over tonight"
"Sorry about that Steve"
"Don't mention it" he shrugged it off.
Steve's car started playing 'California dreamin' Jamie smiled and started swaying her head too the music. Steve glanced at her "is this still your favourite song ?"
Jamie laughed "of corse it is it's a classic, never gets boring".
They started to pull up to 'mamas dinner'. Steve opened the door for her as they both sat down at the booth
The waitress came over "what can I get ya today" she said holding a notepad and pen
"Chocolate milkshake please" Jamie smiled at her as she wrote it down
"Ooo I'll have have the same please" Steve glanced at Jamie. The waitress left as Steve grinned "I haven't had a chocolate milkshake since middle school"
"Your joking right" Jamie and Steve would come to 'mamas dinner' every Friday after school and drink milkshakes until they felt sick
"Nope" Steve threw out "I haven't even been here since middle school" he turned his eyesight back to Jamie "what about you"
"Me and Mia come here a lot" she looked around "hasn't changed much" Jamie looked at the booths, they were all still pink and red and the tables yellow, very strong colours to put together
"This is a nice place to be honest" Steve glanced at the waitress who was putting down the milkshake, Steve took a sip, his face cracked into a grin "still tastes the same"
Jamie cracked up at the shock on Steve's face "yeah all they do is chocolate ice cream with milk dumbass"
Steve chuckled "everything's changing now thought this might of changed too" he looked around and felt like he revisited home, he was always here. He was of corse 4'11 with braces and a bad haircut and Jamie had a Bob as her her was growing out and glasses
"How did we not get fat with how much we came here" she looked down at the milkshake "we would be here every week"
"That's like 1000 milkshakes we drank together" Steve jeered at the thought.
When they left the dinner Mia was standing there with Amy in front of Amy's car "hey what are you guys doing here" Jamie said as they walked up to her and Steve
"We were worried" Amy implied "Mia said you were most likely here" she looked up at Steve and nodded at him
"We'll give you a moment to say goodbye" Mia smiled at Steve and dragged Amy to her car
Jamie turned to Steve "thank you Steve" she smiled
"It was no problem" before he could finish Jamie had wrapped her arms around him, he smiled and wrapped his arms around her. When she finally let go Steve wanted to pull her into another one but she slowly walked away.
