"Slow down, doll. Your meal isn't going anywhere." Taehyung watched, half-amused half-concerned, as Jeongguk aggressively shoved yet another rice cake in his mouth, not even bothered by the chili sauce coating its surface.

"Yes it is." Jeongguk retorted, a hand hovering over his mouth while he chewed on the sticky rice cake. "It's going in my stomach."

Taehyung all but chuckled at his witty reply. He took a generous bite of his own food — he wasn't a big fan of spicy things, so he opted for beef bulgogi and settled for watching Jeongguk burn his mouth instead — and mirrored the wide grin Jeongguk was sporting.

He knew he had made the right choice, bringing Jeongguk here. It was perfect; not too posh, not too cheap. Just a small restaurant, charming in its own unique way. The view was beautiful, too; through the huge windows you could see the sun set on the sea, its golden rays glimmering on the sapphire-colored surface.

And judging by the smile on Jeongguk's face and the occasional content hums he let out, the food wasn't bad either.

Taehyung definitely owed Jimin big time for helping him out.

"Taehyung." Jeongguk called out to him, clapping his chopsticks together to get his attention. "You're staring." He added when Taehyung tilted his head questioningly.

"Oh." Embarrassment coated his cheeks in a rosy shade of pink.

"I mean, if you're going to stare, you might as well stare at my chest. I keep the first two buttons unbuttoned for a reason." Jeongguk shrugged lamely, his tone detached and tranquil — a striking contrast from the restless man sat across from him.

"So you admit that you only keep them unbuttoned so people would look there?" Said man inquired with a curious arch of his eyebrows.

He didn't need a verbal answer for this one. As soon as he saw the edges of Jeongguk's pink lips curve into his signature smirk, he knew his guess was correct. Though, he couldn't really say he was surprised. In fact, it wasn't hard for him to picture Jeongguk adjusting the collar of his shirt in the morning to make sure anyone could take a sneaky peek at his sturdy chest and defined collarbones.

Taehyung didn't blame him; if he was built like that and arbored the same everlasting confidence as Jeongguk, he'd do the exact same. Not that he wasn't confident, he was quite satisfied with his physique — he wasn't exactly well built, and he blamed his laziness for that, but he was in good shape — but he wasn't confident the same way Jeongguk was.

Jeongguk was blunt and unabashed, whereas Taehyung simply didn't care. He was fine with being who he was and the rest didn't matter whatsoever. If he received a compliment he'd accept it, and if someone insulted him he wouldn't take it to heart; but Jeongguk would most likely have bold answers for both situations. In a way, he admired this about the younger.

He was never at a loss for words, knew what to say to rile someone up — in a good or a bad way — and what to say to appease them.

"So are you going to tell me why you suddenly decided to take me on a date?" Jeongguk's silvery voice cut through his thoughts like a knife. His gaze settled upon the pretty boy sat across from him and he smiled softly, endeared by by the curious glint that pirouetted in his eyes.

Should he say Jimin talked him into it? He wasn't so sure how Jeongguk would take it. It was enough of a miracle already that the boy had accepted to come and didn't flip his shit when Taehyung called it a date. The poor man was almost waiting to wake up from what seemed to him like a mere dream.

"I've wanted to take you out for a while, actually. I just wasn't sure where to take you, but then I talked to Jimin and he mentioned some of your likings so... here we are, mhm?" Taehyung replied, setting his chopsticks down for a moment.

He glossed over the little push Jimin gave him, but none of what he said was a lie. He had been thinking about taking Jeongguk out for quite a while indeed but, out of apprehension, he never did.

"Yeah." Jeongguk mumbled, raising his head a little to meet Taehyung's sparkly brown eyes.

"Here we are."

"And that concludes the list of reasons why children are a waste of space and should all go live on another planet, away from our solar system." Jeongguk proudly said before he took a large bite of his dorayaki, stuffing his mouth with the sugary pancake he had ordered for dessert.

Taehyung just stared back at him with an amused expression and a raised brow.

"You were once a child, you know?" He reminded with a gentle laugh, only earning an eye roll from the ravenette.

"Yeah well, I've wasted space in the past. I'm over it now, don't remind me of this embarrassing era please." He grumbled as though he was irritated, but the ever-so slight curve on either side of his lips betrayed him.

"Embarrassing era?" Taehyung inquired, quirking a curious eyebrow at the younger one who was still focusing on his food, as always. "Was it that bad?"

"That bad?" Jeongguk echoed in a groan, his playful expression quickly turning into a disgusted frown. "Taehyung, I had a crush on Shakira and I drew the Gucci logo on my Walmart t-shirts so people would think I was rich." The mere memory made him mentally gag. But not as much as the fact that most of his classmates from pre-school had believed him at the time.

Kids really are naive.

When Jeongguk glanced at Taehyung to see his reaction, the older hurried to cover his mouth with his hand and swallow the laughter that bubbled in his throat and threatened to leak out. He couldn't help but picture a forty-five inches tall Jeongguk sat on a chair with a blank shirt splayed over his desk and a sharpie in his tiny toddler hand, his tongue sticking out as he focused on drawing the infamous Gucci logo properly.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" He defended himself when Jeongguk glared daggers into his skull. He tried to hold back his laugh but seeing Jeongguk frown like this only made it harder for him not to make fun of the boy.

"But hey, look at the bright side of things..." he chuckled nonetheless and reached out to pat Jeongguk's shoulder, or more specifically his fancy shirt, on which the Gucci logo was embroidered. "Look at you now, you're wearing a very much real Gucci shirt. You should be proud of yourself for achieving your childhood dream." There was a hint of mockery in his tone as he uttered the last few words but Jeongguk didn't even pay attention to it, too busy making fun of Taehyung in his own head.

"Taehyung, that's your shirt." He deadpanned, and this time it was his turn to watch the older's face fall with an amused expression plastered on his very own face. "I borrowed it because I was too lazy to get clothes from my place." He added with a lame shrug of his shoulders, still sporting his mocking grin.

"I knew it looked familiar!" The older almost whined, ashamed of himself for not even recognizing his own clothes. Especially a Gucci shirt, that was his favorite brand after all!

"You need to stop borrowing my clothes."

Okay, he didn't mean that. Like, at all. He actually loved it when Jeongguk walked around wearing his hoodie or rocking one of his favorite shirts, but a little white lie wouldn't hurt anyone right?

Jeongguk'a pretty pink lips jutted upwards into a saddened pout following Taehyung's half-hearted demand. And although the older knew Jeongguk was merely playing around, he still felt a pang to his chest.

"Aw." The ravenette sadly mumbled, slamming a dramatic hand over his chest to clutch at his heart. "I'm hurt, Taehyung. Hurt."

Taehyung thought he'd get away by just rolling his eyes and playfully nudging the boy's shoulder from where he was sitting, but apparently Jeongguk had more teasing to do.

The hand on his chest slid up to the collar of his shirts, tattooed fingers working to undo a third button as he leaned back in his chair to he more comfortable.

"But if that's what you want... I'll give it back."

"Nope!" Taehyung yelped, his cheeks flushing a deep red as more and more of Jeongguk's milky skin was unveiled.

"Nope, you can keep it." He refused to let himself get tempted and whipped his head to the left, keeping it locked in place even when Jeongguk laughed at him for being so dramatic.

He wasn't usually one to get riled up easily, so he blamed Jeongguk for all of this. It seemed that his self control became significantly thinner whenever the younger was around, for a reason that still remained unknown to this day.

For Taehyung had been around plenty of attractive men before.

He had been around the tall, handsome ones with permed hair and striking smells. He had been around the lively ones with dyed hair and bright eyes. He had been around the cute ones with pouty lips and pretty smiles.

Yup, he had definitely encountered a lot of attractive men, in a lot of different ways.

Yet he was always the one riling the other up. Not once had it been the other way around and, although he knew that at this end of the day he was still the dominant in whatever the fuck this relationship was, he couldn't help but feel a little intimidated by the new events and the feelings they provided.

To be honest, he wasn't so sure where this was going anymore. Somewhere along the way the path they'd made for their unnamed relationship got a little blurry, and now Taehyung struggled to distinguish it.

He couldn't help but wonder if Jeongguk was struggling, too.

"If you're done eating, can we go take a walk? I want to see the sunset and the sea." Jeongguk inquired, a soft smile playing at his lips as he glanced at the pretty view through the window. There was a hint of nostalgia in his tone, a waver in his silvery voice.

Rather unusual.

But Taehyung paid no mind to it, or at least he pretended not to, and without complaint he pulled his wallet out, sliding his fingers beneath the leather material to get his credit card. They had already agreed that since Taehyung invited him, he would be the one to pay, so Jeongguk didn't say anything when the older went to pay for their meals at the restaurant's counter.

"Come on doll, let's go look at the sea." Taehyung said when he came back, reaching out to ruffle the younger's jet black hair affectionately.

Jeongguk didn't waste another second; he sprang up from his seat, snatched his leather jacket from the back of the chair, and followed Taehyung out. The restaurant wasn't far from the sea, so it only took the duo a couple of steps before they could feel the sand crush under their shoes.

Jeongguk's face brightened up with every passing second and Taehyung watched him fondly, his own smile seemingly everlasting.

"You're beautiful." Taehyung was so busy admiring the younger one that he didn't even realize he'd let a fragment of his thoughts slip past his lips. He only made the connection when he saw Jeongguk's cheeks dust with pink. He felt his own face warm up at the realization, however he didn't take it back. Why would he, when he meant every word?

"Thank you." Taehyung could only hear the smile in his voice, because it seemed like Jeongguk was avoiding eye contact now. His head was dipped down, enough for his hair to fall over his face and hide his pretty features, and before Taehyung could tease him about it the boy began walking again.

Around them, miles and miles of gold dust spread out up to the shore, where gold met sapphire every time the shimmering water hit the coastline with soothing sounds.

"Can we skinny dip?" Jeongguk blurted out, out of nowhere. Taehyung almost choked on his spit, rolling his eyes.

"In a public beach?" He rose a brow at the younger who merely shrugged in response.

"My bare ass is a blessing for anyone who sees it."

Taehyung didn't know wether to laugh or run away, for the constant changes in Jeongguk's unstable behavior made him feel like he was losing his balance.

One minute he was dead serious, the next flirty, and then... this.

He ended up chuckling anyway, more amused than anything by the younger's words.

"Calm down, doll. Your ass isn't Jesus."

"It could be." The younger mumbled, kicking sand with his foot. But even his made-up frown couldn't conceal the joyful smile hidden beneath.

Jeongguk had always loved the beach, but recently he hadn't been able to get any time to spend a day at the beach. In fact, it had been so long since he last came to see the sea that he felt a very familiar rush of nostalgia shake his very core. He had missed this.

But he didn't know what he had missed more; the sea, or being with someone he felt comfortable with.

"I love the beach." Jeongguk wasn't sure what he was doing anymore. But it felt right, so he didn't stop. "When things got too much at home I'd sneak out and go to this small, secret beach near my house." Somehow, he managed to crack a light smile at one of the only good memories he had of his fucked-up childhood.

"It was really pretty and peaceful. My family never found about it, so it was kind of a safe place for me, you know?" Taehyung nodded, eyes glued to Jeongguk's lips as he talked; drinking in his words eagerly. Moments like these, where Jeongguk would open up about something random just because he wanted to, were rare and Taehyung cherished every single one of them.

"Is that the only reason why you it so much?" He inquired, plopping down on the sand next to the ravenettes.

"I don't know." Jeongguk shrugged, digging his palm in the soft sand under him to collect some of it. He let it slip from his fingers, watching with a slight grin as it landed back on the ground, little by little. "I just think it's such a romantic place, you know? The sunset, the sea..."

"Kissing someone here must be so nice."

Taehyung felt his heart increase in speed and thoughts spin in his head. Jeongguk didn't usually say things like this. Definitely not, especially out of nowhere and with such indifference, so it left Taehyung puzzled as to what ( if anything ) Jeongguk was implying there.

It's only when a bubble of anxiety rose to his throat that he finally met the younger's gaze.

It seemed softer, somehow. If the everlasting darkness that lingered in his pupils didn't evanesce yet, it was now illuminated with specks of light, resembling a tiny galaxy.

Pretty.

Taehyung swallowed nervously.

"But you don't want a boyfriend." He reminded the younger in a whisper.

Jeongguk offered him a saddened smile in response, one that quickly fell from his pretty pink set of lips when his eyes focused on the sea once more.

"Yeah, I'm..." he trailed off, unsure of how he felt about the fluttering sensations in his stomach. He blinked once, then twice, before turning his head to look at Taehyung again. And this time, he wore a sheepish grin.

"I'm kind of reconsidering that."

Taehyung swore his heart stopped upon hearing the boy's ever-so serious words.

"Really?" He wanted to say something, to ask for more details, but he couldn't. He could only watch in silence as Jeongguk nodded his head, could only stare at the younger's fingers as they inched closer to his own, closer and closer until their pinkies were brushing against one another.

"Yeah, really." Jeongguk murmured, his words almost drowned out by the sound of the waves crashing against the sand a few feet away from where they sat.

But Taehyung heard it all.

"Well then..." his gaze flitted back to the younger's face, carefully studying his features. He searched his eyes for any trace of dishonesty and found none. "If you're reconsidering it," he gulped, anxious. "Am I in the list of contestants?"

"God, don't put it like that." Jeongguk groaned, though Taehyung swore he heard him chuckle afterwards. "But yeah, you're in that list. Below Yeonjun, obviously."

"Of course." Taehyung laughed along with him, something easing in his heart following the boy's words. "I would feel out of place if I was above Yeonjun."

Jeongguk didn't reply, only gave him a small smile before he settled his attention on the beautiful scenery in front of them, once again. And for a while, it was silent. Peaceful. No sounds, except for those of the waves and the few birds chirping in a distance. Just the two of them, sitting on the soft, golden sand and admiring the sunset together. No awkwardness lingered in the air, no unspoken words, nothing. Just peace, and it felt refreshing.

To do nothing, say nothing. Feel nothing, but not in a way that makes you feel numb.

Jeongguk only seemed to find his peace around Taehyung, and he wondered if it was a good thing at all.

He wondered if the good times, the laughs, the gentle touches and the butterflies were worth it in the end.

Is it worth it?

Jeongguk didn't know how long they stayed like this, but it must have been long enough for the sun to disappear completely and for the air to cool down, temperature dropping by a few degrees. Gone were the golden rays that matched the sand; they were replaced with stars and planes that lit up the sky like thousands of fireflies.

"It's getting cold, doll." Taehyung murmured, reaching out to pet Jeongguk's fluffy locks. "We should get going."

The boy let a whine of disapproval slip past his lips and ducked his head to avoid Taehyung's gentle gesture.

"I want to stay."

Taehyung's features softened.

"We can go back another day, mhm?" He said, flicking Jeongguk's chin playfully. The latter merely grumbled in response, dropping his upper body down on the sand until he was laying down completely.

"Doll." Taehyung chuckled, amused by the boy's behavior. He got up to his feet and extended his hand for him to take, but it only got swatted away.

"Why do you want to go so bad? I like it here, and it's not even that cold." Jeongguk protested, rolling onto his stomach. He winced when he felt sand slip under his shirt, but acted like it didn't bother him at all. He didn't want Taehyung to notice how uncomfortable this position actually was, that would just be an unnecessary embarrassment.

He tucked his head between his arms and closed his eyes, but Taehyung wasn't having it and soon, there were two large bands seizing his waist, and he had no other choice than to raise his head as he was lifted off the ground and forced to stand up on his two feet.

Taehyung made him spin so that they would be face to face and only then did he let go of his waist. Strangely enough, Jeongguk found himself immediately missing the warmth his palms provided on his clothed skin. He didn't say anything, though, deciding that this piece of information was better off left unsaid for now.

"I promise we'll come back here some other day, darling. But I have something else planned for tonight, and I think you'll really like it."

And although Jeongguk made sure to communicate his disapproval with a huff, he didn't insist any further and eventually grabbed the hand Taehyung offered him, letting the man lead him back to his car.

"Wait-" he said halfway through the walk, suddenly stopping straight in his tracks. Taehyung turned around and furrowed his eyebrows, confused as to why he had stopped walking.

And out of nowhere, Jeongguk tugged on the older's hand, forcing him closer.

"Jeongguk-" Taehyung's words for caught in his throat, for he felt fingers graze his cheek in a way that felt foreign. Jeongguk was cupping his face, his touch so gentle and affectionate Taehyung wondered if he was hallucinating.

This can't be real.

But it felt very much real. The hot breath fanning over his lips was real. The fond look in Jeongguk's eyes was real. The fingers intertwined with his own were real.

Jeongguk inched closer. Taehyung held his breath, head empty. His eyes fluttered closed, and his heart pounded harshly against his rib cage, so loud he feared Jeongguk could hear it.

But nothing happened.

"Sorry, hyung. Can't kiss you. Piercing rules." And soon, the hand on his cheek was gone. He gulped, unable to tame the butterflies in his stomach, or the thoughts spiraling in his mind.

When his eyes opened again he found a smirking Jeongguk standing in front of him, his chest almost flush against the other's.

"Aw." The ravenette cooed seeing the disappointment on the older's face. Just to tease him even more, he flicked his chin playfully. "Did you forget already? We can't risk you getting an infection, right?"

He let go of Taehyung's hand but just as he tried to pull away to put some distance between them, Taehyung grabbed him by the wrist and pulled him right back in.

"Fuck the piercing."

He kissed him.
