Jamie was walking home when Dustin Lucas and Mike were riding behind her "HEY JAMIE" Dustin yelled, him and Lucas had been crushing over Jamie for years
Jamie stopped walking and looked at the boys "you guys alright"
Lucas was huffing out of breath "we needed to talk to you" he stopped his bike
Mike smiled at Jamie "Jamie how comes you haven't been to my house in a while" Jamie was always having dinner at the Byers with Nancy and always would end up talking to the boys about their D&D games. But since her and Nancy didn't speak she unfortunately became more distant from the Byers
Jamie shook her head "guess I've been busy boys" they all stared back at her "what is it you wanted to tell me?"
They all looked at each over contemplating who should ask the question, Dustin cracked under Jamie's glare and blurted it out "do you know anything about Hawkins lab ?" All of the boys stared at him
Jamie hated the word 'Hawkins lab' it made her feel sick to her stomach, she came back to reality after a moment "uh no I don't think so, why do you ask ?"
Lucas looked at the floor "we were just thinking they could help us find Will" he looked up at Jamie "and whenever we asked you about them you would always talk about all of the weapons they probably have in there" he shook it off "it was a stupid question" Lucas turned to the boys "can we go now ?" They all looked defeated.
Jamie pitied the boys after loosing Will, he was their closest member. Before they could ride away Jamie stopped them "no it wasn't a stupid question boys" she gave them all a warm smile "you can come to me about any question anything"
Mike nodded his head "thank you Jamie" he wanted to tell her all about the girl with a shaved head living in his basement but he didn't know if she would freak out and call the cops. He looked at the boys "we better go".
When Jamie came home that night she saw Hopper sitting on the porch smoking a cigarette looking out.
She came up behind him "no luck today with Will ?" She leaned against the fence between her and the outside
Hopper glanced at her and shook his head "no luck" he took another puff of his cigarette "we found his bike in the woods" he put his head down "poor kid"
He looked back at Jamie "we found Benny Hammond's body in his dinner today" he sighed taking his hat off
Jamie's heart dropped "what" her eyes filled with tears "I was with him earlier today"
Hopper nodded "I know" he shook his head "there saying it was a suicide"
Jamie turned "you know Benny, he wouldn't commit suicide"
Hopper agreed "I know, that's what makes this annoying"
Jamie patted him on the back "it's not your fault old man" after about 20 minutes of talking about Hoppers day Jamie moved closer to him
Hopper turned to her "call me old man and I will take you to the police station Jamie" he tried not to laugh at her
"Oo I can see a bald patch coming right there" she pointed to the middle of his head, he let out a little chuckle, Jamie sighed "you shouldn't be so hard on yourself you know"
Hopper raised the corner of his mouth "like you are not hard on yourself" he sighed "guess we're just more superior right" he looked back outside and took another puff
Jamie followed his steps "I guess so" a worry popped into her head "you don't think Hawkins lab is at fault do you ?" She was preying for his answer to be a straight no but what he said made her feel more confused
"We know nothing about anything" he put his cigarette out and threw it, he stood up straight "time for bed kid"
"Night" Jamie kissed his cheek and went off.
Hopper looked out again knowing that the day is going to creep upon him again, he was dreading to find anything to do with Hawkins Lab. He even hated driving close to it.
The next day at school Jamie walked in and went straight to her locker, she jumped at the sound of a fist hit a locker, she turned and saw Mia laughing
Jamie shoved her slightly "don't do that !" A smile crept on her face, she opened her locker and looked back at Mia "what's that look on your face"
Mia had a big grin on her face "what look ?" she tried not to smile but still was smiling
Jamie pointed at her face "the look of your up to something" she shut her locker and started walking "go on tell me what are you up to"
Mia stopped Jamie from walking "okay, take a breath in and hear me out on this one" she raised her hands ever so slightly
Jamie raised her eyebrows "what ?"
Mia looked around and looked back at her "well yunno how we're having a chill night ?" Jamie nodded slightly "well I got us invited to a party"
Jamie laughed "okay sure we can go why not" she took a breath "whose party"
Mia laughed "okay well don't get mad okay" she lifted her shoulders "Steve Harringtons"
Jamie carried on walking "nope" she walked faster, there is no way Steve would invite her being nice, he either wanted to embarrass her there for embarrassing him yesterday or to shut her away at the door
Mia chased after her "now hang on" she caught up to Jamie who was almost sprinting away "you don't even have to talk to him" she said "and he has this fat house with no parents" she hooked her arm around Jamie's and stopped her making her face her "come on Jamie half of the school are showing up" she started making finger guns "maybe you'll meet someone there"
Jamie scoffed "how will I even get in, there's no way in hell Steve would invite me"
Mia smirked "that's why your my plus one"
Jamie glanced down at her fingers "put the finger guns away" she grabbed her hands "fine I'll go but if I get annoyed in the slightest by the hair Harrington you're taking me straight home"
Mia squealed and clasped Jamie "thank you thank you thank you" she finally let go "I'll pick you up at 8 we'll have a blast" she added on "and hoppers not home the whole night tonight, he's on night duty"
Jamie glanced at her friend "how did you know that ?"
Mia slightly giggled "I just love you so much I learnt when I can help you sneak out" she winked at her as they rejoined arms and walked to biology.
Jamie and Mia walked into biology. Jamie sat down next to Riff, he was grinning at her "guess who doesn't have to dissect frogs today"
Jamie sat down her eyes wide open "what we don't have to do it today" Jamie had been dreading this since yesterday
He shook his head "look" he pointed to the teacher showing a substitute sitting there flipping through papers trying to see what the lesson was "he called of sick this morning"
Jamie sighed in relief "oh thank god, the substitute doesn't look like he's enjoying himself" they both looked over to see the substitute dropping everything off the desks followed by snarky comments by students laughing at him
Riff cackled "bless him" after a second Riff spoke again "oh he's going to start marking us in"
The substitute brought out a piece of paper "okay here we go" he looked up at the class "I'm going to call your name and you say here please" he looked down at the paper "Tony Anderwood" he looked around the class room
Tony put his hand up "here"
The teacher smiled at him and carried on calling names "Jamie Hopper"
Jamie raised her hand "here"
The teacher looked at her "Jamie ? That's a boys name" he laughed a little "suits you"
Riff whispered in Jamie's ear "did he just say you're like a boy" making Jamie laugh
The teacher carried on "Mia Thermoopalus?" He looked around
Mia sighed and put her hand up "it's Thermopolis" the teacher apologised
"Finally Riff Lorden ?" He looked around once more
Riff smiled and put his hand up "here sir"
The teacher smiled at him and Jamie "both got very odd names" he laughed "cool" he quickly turned back to his chair and sat
Riff shook his head "is it just me or is he fucking odd" he glared at the teacher with a smile in the corner of his mouth
Jamie nudged him "he's just trying to be a teacher" Riff's eyes met here
"Your sticking up for the teacher" they both laughed "no it's cute of you really, after he just called you a man"
She hit his shoulder "he did not call me a man" she put her hand on her cheek "he said my name is a man's name" she smirked
Riff started to tap his fingers on the desk "hey are you going to Harringtons party tonight ?" He glanced her direction
"You were invited to that?" Riff and Steve were distant friends but never were that close
Riff nodded "yeah he told me to come by, I think be just wanted me to bring my friends" he rolled his eyes slightly "why were you not invited?"
Jamie pointed to Mia "Mia's taking me as her plus one, she's forcing me" she added
"Oh" he inclined his head agreeing with Mia "good for her, you should come you'll have fun"
Jamie agreed "I will come, but don't know how long I'll last"
"Hey why don't we go out sometime" Riff finally put out there "just you and me" he grinned
"Uh yeah sure" Jamie laughed, she always like Riff ever since they were put next to each other in biology
"Great how about on Monday ?" He asked, she nodded her head. Riff looked over to Tony who put his thumbs up, Riff just nodded his head and smirked.
