"Say that again?"

"I'm gonna go pick Leaf up today," I hesitantly repeated myself.

I was about to go head out the door and, like a good sister, go pick the little gremlin up from kindergarten! Just regular sibling things—not because of a certain sunny guy that I met a day ago. Just regular sibling things.

Then, my mom caught me preparing to leave when I was putting my shoes on. So now, I'm currently trying to convince her nothing's wrong with me.

"Go bring me my medication, I think I'm hearing things wrong," She uses her two fingers to massage her nose bridge.

I smile awkwardly, patting her shoulder. "Mom, I genuinely want to pick Leaf up today. Nothing's wrong!"

"That makes no sense,"

"Mom—"

"This morning you two were fighting over some dream she had. If I recall, something about being mean to her in her dream?" Grace says. She crosses her arms and glares at me, waiting for a response.

"Oh yeah," I scoff. "She got mad at me because I was mean to her in her dream. Her dream,"

"See?"

"..."

"But I won't stop you from going," She shrugs before walking off. "Less work for me,"

I stood there in front of the door with my mouth agape, it quickly turning into a confused smile.

———

"You're late. Again," Leaf says in an annoyed tone, pinching my arm, when I arrived. I was ten minutes late this time, which makes sense why she's worked up.

"Don't pinch me," I grabbed her hand and dragged her with me towards the direction back home. "Did Lia already leave?" I asked curiously.

"She already left, Ash picked her up," She looks up at me and makes a face. "You just wanted to see Ash again didn't you,"

"Nope," I frown.

"Why else would you be here?" She lets go of my hand and bends over to pick up a yellow leaf off of the floor.

"To..pick you up,"

"Never pick me up again then, I think my skin is burnt from waiting so long," She groans, standing back up and throwing the leaf that she was observing away.

"That's too bad." I say sarcastically. We cross the street under the sweltering afternoon heat and by the time we get home, we're sweaty messes.

"Back already?" Mom asks from the kitchen as the front door shuts with a click.

"Yeah," I replied. Leaf throws her backpack to the couch and sits on the ground, right in front of the fan.

"Serena, do you mind going out to Restaurant Le Wow? I just ordered takeout for dinner,"

"Sure," I said drowsily. "I'm going to change first." I was wearing sweatpants. I physically couldn't survive unless I changed into something less..hot.

I step in my room and start looking for something to change into, finally deciding on a white shoulderless mini dress with ruffles on the bottom. I turned my head towards the coat hook and saw my mom's straw hat hanging from one of the hooks. Should I wear it?

———

Using one hand to bring down the brim of my hat to cover my eyes from the sun, I used the other to carry the plastic bag that stored today's dinner.

I was tired at this point, physically. I've been walking the past half hour and it's going to take another half hour to get back home.

I should really learn how to ride a bike or something.

When I was twelve years old, my grandma bought me a hot pink bike with white wheels- which I adored. I was going to attempt to ride it, but what did I see the next morning? Flat tires. Guess who? A two year old that's named after a part of a plant.

While looking around, a little bakery caught my eye. I smile. What does a person need after walking in the sun for the whole day? Pastries.

I took a turn and reached the welcoming entrance. The door was decorated with cool-colored assortments of flowers, a tiny bell hanging on the knob. There were fairy lights hanging on the ceiling except it was turned off.

My hand reached for the knob, turning it—

Ding

"Thank you!" Someone says in a cheery tone.

The door abruptly opened from the inside, surprising me for a second, and I looked up to see...Ash??

Ash was smiling down at a beaming Lia, playfully shaking the bag in his hands. "Let's eat it now,"

"No, we habe to bwe patient!" Lia replies, her hand then grabbing onto the pant leg of his jeans and dragging him out the store.

It was only until the bell chimed again, signaling the door completely close, that I snapped out of my senses. I've been standing there and the two of them haven't seen me at all?

I grin. Were they that excited about desserts?

I shake the two of them (specifically Ash) out of my mind and twist the knob, pulling the door open with no effort.

"Hello!" The lady behind the register, who seems to be the same age as me, greets me with a kind voice. I smile in return.

"Do you recommend any pastries or desserts I could try?" I ask. I look around at the comfy decor. Dim lights shone on the pink and blue color-scheme.

"Hmm," she brings a hand to her chin, stroking it. "These are my personal favorites," she points toward a colorful display of decorated cream puffs.

"Cream puffs? They look tasty.." I lean closer towards the cream puffs shielded by glass.

"Nuh uh! These are Pokepuffs," she smiles with a playful tone and points at the sign right above it labeled: POKEPUFFS.

"Oh like the TV show? Pokémon?" I turn towards her.

"Correct Blondie," her eyes lay on the pokepuffs. "I made most of the cream puffs so they allowed me to name them,"

"Serena," I corrected her. "You made these?"

"Mhm. Love baking,"

"Me too!" I exclaim, bringing a hand to my heart. "It's the best way to pass time!"

"Right?" She walks over to an oak wood table, grabbing a tray and tongs, bringing it towards where she originally was. "Here try some," she uses her tongs and grabs a pokepuff that was frosted navy blue frosting piped to appear like a rose.

It kinda matched the same shade of her hair.

"For free?" I ask, surprised. I bring my hand up to grab the puff. I bit down and was instantly met with satisfaction. That tasted way better than I was expecting and my expectations were high.

"You have to pay," she laughs when my smile instantly drops. "I'm Miette, nice to meet you Blondie,"

"Serena,"

"Blondie's better," she replies. "Let me taste your pastries next time, mine most likely taste better, but I think I would like it."

———

I left the bakery with an empty wallet and a smile on my face. That poke puff was one of the best pastries I've tasted for a while, no wonder why Ash seemed so excited.

Stop thinking about Ash, Serena.

Brrring Brrring

I pull out my ringing phone, checking the contact name: sunshine <3

Dawn's calling? Perfect timing, I was about to send pictures of the puffs to her.

I accepted the call.

"SERENAAAAA"

"Dawnnnnnn!" I reply, moving the phone away from my ear.

"COME TO THE LIBRARY TOMORROW!"

"Your mom is making you go on a Saturday?"

"NO I ACTUALLY WANT TO GO!"

"Huh??"

"YOU WONT BELIEVE THIS,"

"Believe wha—"

"I was at the library right? You know how I feel about the library right?"

"I can write an essay about it,"

"You get the gist, well I was doing my work right?? I think I wanna get married,"

"EH??" I stop walking, standing in shock.

Dawn always had standards the highest of high when it was about men. Sure, she crushed on a lot of hot guys—even dated some of them, but she never was serious with any of them. So when Dawn talks about marriage, she's smitten.

"Yeah...I've fallen so hard, I think I cracked my skull."

"WAIT, so suddenly? Dawn, what happened at the library??"

"I fell in love," she replies in a lovesick voice.

I shake my head. "Does he go to our school?"

"Nope, but goddamn he is the HOTTEST MAN I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!" She fangirls through the mic.

"Dawn—"

"I'll pick you up tomorrow! BYEBYE, LOVE YOU!" she says in a sweet voice.

beep

I look at my phone in bewilderment. She hung up on me.

A/N:
MIETTEEEE!! Definitely not making Miette as an overly dramatic she-devil.

note: there won't be a love triangle between miette and the two. I also might not write Calem in(?)
